[Simultaneous study of karyotype and bone marrow histology in chronic myeloid leukemia with Ph1 chromsome. (author's transl)]

This study was devoted to the simultaneous examination of the karyotype and the bone marrow histology in 33 patients suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia with the Ph1 chromosome. Some patients were evaluated in the beginning of the disease, others after evolution and treatment and some at both times. Supplementary abnormalities of the karyotype occurred in some patients before any treatment, but in most after evolution and treatment. The abnormalities encountered consisted in hypodiploidies, modifications of chromosome structure and hyperdiploidies. The additional abnormalities of the karyotype were in the majority of the patients accompanied by a bone marrow histology characterized by more pronounced blastic infiltration and precollagen fibrosis and evidence of bone lesions. The picture realized by the karyotype and the bone marrow histology allows a better evaluation of the evolution and the prognosis is individual cases, especially of the likely hood of the acute blastic transformation.

[Experimental study of electro-ejaculation in the baboon (author's transl)]

With the aim of applying the technique of electro-ejaculation to paraplegics, the authors perfected an apparatus which permits stimulation with an intra-rectal electrode. Out of 27 electro-ejaculations carried out on 9 monkeys, there were 5 failures and 22 successes (but 3 of these only contained coagulum). The results improved at the same time as the technique. Although the motility and the number of spermatozoa were rather reduced in comparison with normal ejaculation, the semen obtained appeared to be utilizable. Observation of the animal, rectoscopy as well as the histological investigations carried out in 3 of the animals which were sacrificed showed no complication or lesion. The apparatus and technique which subsequently proved to be applicable in the paraplegic male should enable the improvement of his possibilities of procreation.

[Ultrastructural study of anomalies of the acrosome in spermatozoa with irregular heads]

The study of the ultrastructure of spermatozoa having an irregular head, encountered in large number in semen of men supposed to be sterile, shows that the acrosome is often modified in its shape or its texture. In several samples the spermatozoa have either no acrosome or a small one, at a certain distance from the nucleus. In other cases the ratio between the segments of the acrosome is modified and the parallelism between the edges is not conserved. These acrosomes are often covered with a cytoplasmic velum the post acrosomal cape is missing. Finally the acrosome can be deformed by local expansions of the subacrosomal space, or by large gaps. Other anomalies which are less common have been observed. The elimination of possible artefacts and the comparison between these human anomalies and similar acrosomal anomalies of mammalian semen, are discussed in this paper.
