[Treatment of ulcus cruris. Clinical experiences using the Ulcrux cream and powder]

In an open trial 102 ulcera cruris of chronic venous genesis were treated locally with both Ulcrux Powder and Ointment in 54 female and 48 male patients over a period of 30 days. A positive result was obtained as to the shrinking of the wound area, the diminution of the substance defect, the development of granulations and the tendency towards epithelialisation. The influence on the cleansing of the wounds and on traumatic pain was also very favourable. Due to the rapid cleaning of the ulcera from necrotic films and to the good healing up tendency the therapeutic result was considered good to excellent with 81 patients (79,4%). Local side effects did not occur; the compatibility was also considered good in all cases. These test results prove that the combined treatment of chronic venous ulcera cruris with Ulcrux Ointment and Powder has real therapeutic advantages and seems to be superior to the traditional local forms of treatment.

Clinical evaluation of Lecyvit (POLFA)

Lecyvit POLFA was applied in 114 persons as a roborant drug. Satisfactory results of treatment were observed in 106 subjects (93%). Clinical improvement consisted in increased physical and mental activities, better appetite and gain of body weight.

Protective effect of pantethine on experimental thrombocytopenia in the rat

The effects of pantethine on circulating platelet counts and platelet functions were studied in normal and experimentally produced thrombocytopenic rats. Administration of pantethine to normal animals did not cause any alterations in both platelet count and function except for a slight enhancement of intravascular platelet aggregation induced by collagen or neuramindase. Injection of anti-rat platelet rabbit serum into rats resulted in acute thrombocytopenia. Administration of pantethine prior to the antiserum promoted recovery from the thrombocytopenia in a dose dependent manner, but administration of the drug after development of the thrombocytopenia was not effective. A similar result was obtained with a transietnt thrombocytopenia induced by exchange transfusion with platelet poor blood. Regardless of whether animals were treated with pantethine or not, the platelets newly generated during the course of recovery from thrombocytopenia were essentially normal in the function tested in vitro. A more chronic thrombocytopenia induced by repeated injections of the antiserum was prevented, to some significant degree, by daily administration of pantethine throughout the experimental period. In contrast to these, such effect of pantethine was not observed with the thrombocytopenia models produced bynitrogen mustard N-oxide and neuraminidase. These findings were idscussed in relation to mechanism of the action of pantethine and to possible clinical application to the drug to thrombocytopenia.

Changes in biochemical indices of vitamin nutrition in women using oral contraceptives during treatment with "Surbex 500"

A study was conducted on 10 healthy young women who had taken oral contraceptives of the combined type for several cycles. Daily treatment was instituted with a high-potency vitamin B complex with vitamin C ("Surbex 500"). Blood specimens were collected before and after treatment with this vitamin supplement and plasma levels of ascorbic acid and vitamin B12 were measured. Activity of red cell aspartate amino-transferase (AST) was determined before and after the in vitro addition of excess pyridoxal phosphate, and of glutathione reductase (GTR) before and after the in vitro addition of excess flavin adenine dinucleotide. Women taking oral contraceptives showed plasma concentrations of ascorbic acid and vitamin B 12 below the range seen in a matched group of untreated women, while red cell AST and GTR were less saturated by their essential co-factors. Daily treatment with"Surbex 500" restored all four biochemical indices of vitamin nutrition to the normal ranges.
