Abstract
Using a kinetic vision tester which we developed, kinetic visual acuity (KVA) at target velocity of 0-100 km/h was measured at background luminance of 0.1-200 cd/m2 in 19 eyes of 10 normal volunteers ranging in age from 20 to 31 years. The decrease in KVA was slow at a target velocity of 30 km/h or more as reported before. KVA was best at background luminance of 100 cd/m2. In 3 eyes of 2 normal subjects, 3 eyes of 2 patients with tonic accommodation and 1 eye of 1 patient with central serous chorioretinopathy, visual acuity at limited exposure times was also measured. In patients with tonic accommodation, visual acuity at limited exposure times was good, but KVA was poor as compared to normal eyes. In the eyes of patients with central serous chorioretinopathy, results were poor for both. The quantity of light required to obtain the same visual acuity was similar for both normal eyes and eyes with central serous chorioretinopathy in terms of both KVA and visual acuity at limited exposure times. In eyes with tonic accommodation, difference was seen in the required quantity of light. We conclude that functions of accommodation are involved in kinetic vision and that higher visual functions are required than those for visual acuity at limited exposure times.

Abstract
The present study was undertaken to examine the effects of cyclic administration of low-dose progestogen on endometrial carcinogenesis in mice. A total of 115 female ICR mice, 10 weeks of age, were divided into four experimental and control groups. Mice in groups 1-3 received laparotomy and were injected with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) solution at a dose of 1 mg/100 g body weight to the left uterine tube and with normal saline to the right uterine tube. From one week after the MNU exposure, groups 1 and 2 were given 5 ppm 17 beta-estradiol (E2)-containing diet throughout the experiment. Mice in group 1 received 5 s.c. injections of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) (2 mg/mouse) at intervals of 4 weeks from week 7. Group 3 was treated with MNU/normal saline alone. Group 4 consisted of mice treated with MPA alone. At the termination of the experiment (week 30), all animals were killed and autopsied for pathological examinations. It was found that adenocarcinomas and preneoplastic lesions developed in the bilateral uterine corpora in mice of groups 1-3. MPA treatment significantly decreased the weight of the uterine corpus (P < 0.05) and the incidences of endometrial adenocarcinoma and atypical or adenomatous (P < 0.001) but not cystic glandular hyperplasias in the MNU/E2-treated groups. Additionally, MPA treatment tended to decrease the proliferating cell nuclear antigen-labeling index in endometrial glandular cells. These data indicate that MPA, even at low dose, has an inhibitory effect on mouse endometrial carcinogenesis induced by MNU and E2.

Abstract
Cumulus-enclosed pig oocytes were matured in vitro, freed from cumulus cells, and inseminated with frozen-thawed ejaculated spermatozoa in a chemically defined protein-free medium containing 37.0 mmol NaHCO3 l-1 and 5 mmol caffeine l-1. When the medium was supplemented with 1 mg polyvinylalcohol (PVA) ml-1, more penetrated oocytes were observed 14 h after insemination with 7-12 x 10(6) cells ml-1 than with 4-5 x 10(6) cells ml-1 and the incidence of polyspermy reflected the sperm concentration used. Varying the NaHCO3 concentration but maintaining the sperm concentration at 8 x 10(6) cells ml-1 resulted in significantly more oocytes being penetrated in media containing 45.83-50.25 than 37.0-41.42 mmol NaHCO3 l-1; there were no significant differences in the incidence of either male pronuclear formation or polyspermy. In medium containing 45.83 mmol NaHCO3 l-1, the inclusion of PVA at 0-5 mg ml-1 had no effect on proportions of penetrated oocytes, male pronuclear formation or polyspermy. However, when spermatozoa from three different boars were evaluated, the penetration and male pronuclear formation rates were highly variable, unlike the incidence of polyspermy. Penetration of cumulus-free oocytes was first detected at 6 h. When spermatozoa were incubated for 6 h in the absence of oocytes, motility, but not vitality, decreased whether or not PVA was included in the medium. Chlortetracycline (CTC) fluorescence analysis of the capacitation state indicated a rapid decline in the proportion of live uncapacitated, acrosome-intact cells and a rapid rise in the proportion of live capacitated, acrosome-reacted cells during the first hour.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
To examine K-, H-, or N-ras and p53 gene mutations in mouse endometrial carcinogenesis induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea and 17 beta-estradiol, we performed polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) in 13 adenocarcinomas and 11 other preneoplastic lesions. A significant shifted band in exon 5 of p53 using PCR-SSCP was detected in one of 13 adenocarcinomas. Direct sequencing showed that the mutation was TCA-to-TGA (Ser-to-End) transition. These results suggest that ras gene mutations were not related to carcinogenesis and inactivation of p53 may occur with low frequency during the mouse endometrial carcinogenesis in this model.

Abstract
We report a case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) associated with anti-GM2 antibody caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. A 27-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of muscle weakness in all his extremities. He had no background of immunological abnormalities. Within 5 days, generalized muscular weakness had progressed so rapidly that he suffered respiratory dysfunction and dysphagia. Throughout the entire clinical course, enzyme immunoassay (serum) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (CSF) for CMV were carried out serially. Only antibodies against CMV were elevated during the clinical course in the serum and CSF. These findings supported the idea that he had developed GBS due to isolated CMV infection. We examined the reactivity of GBS sera with crude ganglioside fraction, and only anti-GM2 antibody was recognized on a high-performance thin-layer chromatogram plate in this case. Although the anti-GM2 antibody was decreased transiently by plasmapheresis, the clinical symptoms progressed. The symptoms advanced very rapidly during high-dose gammaglobulin therapy associated with reelevation of the anti-GM2 antibody. Following ganciclovir administration, however, the symptoms became diminished within 7 days and the anti-GM2 antibody fell dramatically. We speculate that the reason for the observed effectiveness of ganciclovir was direct suppression of activation of CMV, followed by the inhibition of the production of demyelinating antibodies including the anti-GM2 antibody.

Abstract
A peroral dosage form was examined to deliver recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) to the colon in beagle dogs. A new gelatin capsule with its inside surface coated with ethylcellulose was prepared for this purpose. RhG-CSF was dissolved with propylene glycol and was filled in the capsule. Several kinds of ethylcellulose-gelatin capsules with an ethylcellulose layer of thickness 46 to 221 mm were used. The capsule was filled with propylene glycol solution containing fluorescein as an absorption marker, castor oil derivative and citric acid. The hardness of the capsule was tested after the gelatin layer was dissolved using a hardness tester and was dependent on the thickness of the ethylcellulose layer of the capsule. The time, Tmax, at which plasma fluorescein level reaches its maximum following oral administration of ethylcellulose capsules was used as a parameter for the in-vivo disintegration time of the ethylcellulose capsule into the colon. Capsules of thickness 84 mm with a Tmax of 4-6 h were filled with rhG-CSF solution containing fluorescein and were administered to dogs. After administration, blood samples were collected for 96 h and the blood total leucocyte (BTL) counts were measured as a pharmacological index of rhG-CSF. The maximum BTL count appeared at 10 h then gradually decreased and returned to its normal level at 48 h. These results suggest the usefulness of ethylcellulose capsules for the delivery of rhG-CSF to the colon and the possibility of a new oral rhG-CSF dosage form has been elucidated.

Abstract
Cultivated rye (Secale cereale) and its weedy relative (S. segetale) carry B chromosomes. The B chromosomes are known to be morphologically alike at somatic metaphase and they are of the standard type in natural populations. To clarify the cytogenetic relationship between the standard B chromosomes of S. cereale and those of S. segetale, we made four crosses between Afghan S. segetale with two standard B chromosomes as a pistillate parent and Turkish, Iranian, Korean, and Japanese S. cereale, all with two standard B chromosomes as pollen parents. We observed the pairing of B chromosomes at diakinesis in pollen mother cells in all F1 hybrids with four standard B chromosomes, two from each of the pistillate and the pollen parents. The degree of pairing of B chromosomes in all F1 hybrids with four standard B chromosomes was similar to or somewhat lower than, that in parental strains with four standard B chromosomes. These results showed that the standard B chromosomes in S. segetale from Afghanistan are homologous with those in S. cereale from Turkey, Iran, Korea, and Japan. We therefore propose monophyletic origin of the standard B chromosomes in S. segetale and S. cereale.Key words: Secale, B chromosomes, origin, cultivated rye, weedy rye.

Abstract
Visual acuity was measured in eighteen normal eyes of 10 subjects ranging from 20 to 30 years of age, using a modified tachistoscope. We changed the exposure time of the target (1-1,000 msec) or background luminance (0.1-200 cd/m2). The visual acuity rose with increasing exposure time. At background luminance over 10 cd/m2, the critical duration time was about 500 msec. However, at low luminance below 10 cd/m2, the critical duration was prolonged. This tendency was also seen when the pupil diameter was fixed at 3 mm with an artificial pupil. Similar by luminance detection, visual acuity was also determined by the product of background luminance and exposure time. From theses findings, we concluded that Bloch-Bunsen-Roscoe law was statisfied.

Abstract
We have used chlortetracycline (CTC) analysis to investigate mechanisms that may play important roles during bull sperm capacitation in a culture medium (containing glucose, heparin, and caffeine) known to promote capacitation and fertilization in vitro. In initial experiments employing the Ca2+ ionophore A23187, we identified three discrete CTC patterns so similar to those described for mouse and human sperm that we have employed the same nomenclature: "F," characteristic of uncapacitated, acrosome-intact cells; "B," characteristic of capacitated, acrosome-intact cells; "AR," characteristic of capacitated, acrosome-reacted cells. Over a 60-min period, A23187 stimulated significant increases in B and AR pattern cells, with concomitant decreases in F pattern cells, suggesting a very rapid transition from the uncapacitated to the capacitated state and then on to exocytosis. Without ionophore, significant changes in the proportions of F and B pattern cells were also observed, but the maximum responses required 4 hr; the proportion of AR cells was consistently approximately 15% throughout, indicating a low incidence of spontaneous acrosome loss. Analysis of cells in media with altered composition indicated that the inclusion of either heparin or caffeine significantly promoted capacitation to about the same extent, but together, heparin plus caffeine had an even more stimulatory effect. Despite this, none of these treatments triggered acrosome loss above the levels seen in media lacking these constituents. In the presence of caffeine, with or without heparin, the inclusion of glucose had little effect on responses, but in the presence of heparin there were fewer B cells.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
A novel ethylcellulose (EC) capsule which releases drug with a time-controlled fashion has been prepared. This capsule is composed of four parts, drug container, swellable substance, capsule body and cap. At the bottom of the body, micropores are made. As water penetrates through these micropores, the swellable substance such as low substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (L-HPC) swells. When the cap made of water-insoluble macromolecular substance such as EC cannot persist the swelling pressure, the EC cap disintegrates and the drug in the container is released from the capsule. The lag-time is utilized for the delivery of drug to the colon. The release time of the drug from the capsule was measured both in vitro and in vivo experiments. In the case of an in vitro experiment, after 12mg of fluorescein as a model drug and 238mg of starch were filled into the container, caps having different thickness were attached to the capsule body and release study was performed. The release time of the drug was mainly dependent on the thickness of the cap. Using test capsules of which mean cap thickness were 39.1 +/- 2.3 (SE)microns, 63.1 +/- 5.0 microns and 75.6 +/- 4.1 microns, the in vivo release time was estimated after administration to beagle dogs. As a parameter, the peak time (tmax) when plasma fluorescein concentration reached to its maximum level was determined for the estimation of the release time of the drug from the capsule in the gastrointestinal tract. The in vivo tmax was well correlated with the cap thickness.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
Rat one-cell embryos, recovered from naturally mated females, were cultured in a chemically defined medium (R1ECM) under different experimental conditions. When the osmolarity of the medium with a reduced concentration (63.8 mmol l-1) of NaCl was varied by adding different amounts of D-sorbitol, more (79-91%) of the one-cell embryos developed to the four-cell stage at 212-278 mosmol than at 306 mosmol (13%). The greatest proportions of morulae (74%) and blastocysts (60%) were obtained at 246 mosmol. When the medium was supplemented with amino acids in various combinations and the osmolarity adjusted to about 246 mosmol, more (80-98%) of the embryos developed to the morula stage. More blastocysts were obtained in medium supplemented with glutamine (Gln: 80%), minimal essential medium (MEM) essential amino acids (EAA) (90%), Gln+EAA (83%), EAA+MEM nonessential amino acids (NEAA) (83%) or EAA+Gln+NEAA (90%) than in medium without amino acids (59%). Few (3-10%) hatching or hatched blastocysts were observed 120 h after the start of culture in the medium with EAA plus Gln or NEAA. The mean number of cells in blastocysts developed in the medium with EAA+Gln+NEAA was 46.7 +/- 7.2. When a total of 82 morulae or early blastocysts that had developed in culture were transferred to eight pseudopregnant rats on day 4, six recipients into which 62 embryos were transferred maintained their pregnancies beyond day 23, although no deliveries had occurred by day 25 or 26. When the rats were killed, 42 (68%) implantation sites and eight (13%) full-term fetuses with no gross abnormality were observed in the uterine horns.

Abstract
Inactivation of the tumour-suppressor gene p53 has been demonstrated in a variety of human tumours. We extracted DNA from paraffin-embedded tissues of 67 ovarian carcinoma samples (54 primary tumours, seven metastases and six tumours obtained after chemotherapy), and analysed allelic losses and mutations of the p53 gene using single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis of DNA fragments amplified by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Allelic loss was observed in 24 of 32 informative cases. The mutation was detected in 14 of 54 primary ovarian carcinomas: eight serous cystadenocarcinomas (SCA), 42%), five endometrioid adenocarcinomas (EA, 42%) and one mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (14%). The incidence of the alteration was higher in SCA and EA than in other histological types, but the difference was not statistically significant. The incidence of p53 gene abnormalities in ovarian carcinomas tended to be increased in patients with disease advanced (over FIGO stage II). Mutations were found in exons 5 and 7 only and consisted mainly of single nucleotide substitutions [9 or 14 (64%) in exon 7; 4 of 14 (29%) in exon 5]. In 13 of 14 cases, p53 gene mutations occurred concomitantly with losses of the normal allele. The status of the p53 gene in metastases and the tumours obtained after chemotherapy was identical to that in the primary tumours. The presence of p53 gene mutation did not correlate with histological grade, response to primary therapy and survival. These findings suggest that mutational alterations of the p53 gene are involved in the development of a significant proportion of some ovarian carcinomas (SCAs or EAs), especially in advanced stages. However, they may not be a marker predicting the biological behaviour or the outcome of the disease.

Abstract
The present study was designed to examine the ability of bovine oocytes, after germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD), to be activated by sperm penetration and the sequence of sperm nuclear transformation. Bovine oocytes cultured for 8 h in maturation medium (tissue culture medium TCM-199 containing 10% fetal calf serum) were inseminated in Brackett and Oliphant's medium supplemented with bovine serum albumin (10 mg/ml), caffeine (5 mM) and heparin (10 micrograms/ml). When oocytes were transferred to the maturation medium 8 h after insemination and additionally cultured for 5-40 h at 39 degrees C in 5% CO2 in air, 71-76% of oocytes were penetrated and polyspermy (67-75%) was common. The proportions of penetrated oocytes that were activated significantly increased with the lapse of the additional culture time, reaching 88% and 87% by 25 and 40 h after additional culture, respectively. When compared with unpenetrated oocytes, significantly higher proportions of penetrated oocytes reached metaphase II or beyond 15 and 25 h after additional culture. After penetration, sperm nuclei were transformed into metaphase chromosomes and then to telophase chromosomes before the formation of male pronuclei. These results provide evidence that bovine oocytes acquire the ability to respond to sperm-mediated activation soon after GVBD.

Abstract
Anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) is considered to be one of the contributory factors in the development of cerebral infarction. We compared the recurrence and prognosis of 20 ischemic stroke patients with positive IgG aCL who had no collagen vascular diseases with those in 120 patients with negative IgG aCL. The aCL-positive patients comprised 18 females and 2 males aged 43-79 (mean 64) years and the mean follow-up period was 5.6 years. The aCL-negative patients comprised 82 males and 38 females aged 40-84 (mean 64.2) years and the mean follow-up period was 5.8 years. There was no significant difference in age and mean follow-up period between the two groups. We examined the recurrence rate and the intervals from the onset to the recurrence in both groups. We investigated the relationship between the recurrence of stroke and chronological changes in titer of aCL in patients with positive aCL. We also evaluated the effectiveness of antiplatelet agents for the prevention of recurrent stroke in both groups. A positive aCL level was defined as one which was > 3 standard deviations (S.D.) above the mean level for normal controls. A high titer of aCL was defined as being > 7 S.D. above the normal mean value. Among the 20 patients with positive aCL, recurrence of ischemic stroke occurred in 10 (50%) (cerebral thrombosis in 8 and cerebral embolism in 2) and myocardial infarction developed in 2 patients. As regards the number of ischemic episodes of stroke, recurrence occurred twice in 4 and once in 6 patients.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
Expression of DNA topoisomerase (Topo)-I-mRNA in various cancer cell lines was detected using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method. The cytoplasmic polyadenylated RNA isolated from cancer cell lines was reverse-transcribed and the complementary DNA was amplified by PCR primed with Topo-I specific primers. Fidelity of the amplified sequence was confirmed by restriction endonuclease digestion and Southern blot hybridization. The level of Topo-I mRNA was correlated positively with the cytotoxicity of a Topo-I inhibitor, a camptothecin derivative. This RT-PCR method may be applicable to the assessment of sensitivity of cells to Topo-I targeted drugs, especially when only small quantities of cell samples are available.

Abstract
We studied the role and relationship of the putative mediators of coupling of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and neuronal activation, adenosine (Ado) and nitric oxide (NO). Topical brain application over the whisker barrel cortex of anesthetized rats (n = 24) of the Ado receptor antagonist theophylline (Theo, 5 x 10(-5) M) for 30 min reduced the CBF response to deflection of the contralateral whiskers from 17.9 +/- 3.0% of baseline to 10.6 +/- 2.7% (P < 0.05). Coapplication of Theo (5 x 10(-5) M) and the NO synthase blocker N omega-nitro-L-arginine (L-NNA, 10(-3) M) for 30 min led to a further reduction in the CBF response to whisker stimulation to 7.5 +/- 1.3% (P < 0.05 compared with Theo alone). The CBF effect of sodium nitroprusside (10(-5) M) was not affected by Theo-L-NNA coapplication (122 +/- 25 vs. 140 +/- 25%, n = 5). Application of adenosine deaminase (1 U/ml, n = 5) reduced the CBF response to whisker stimulation from 18.2 +/- 0.7 to 10.7 +/- 1.9% (P < 0.05). Superfusion of L-NNA (10(-3) M, 30 min, n = 7) attenuated the CBF response to application of Ado (10(-4) M) from 39.4 +/- 10.4 to 22.9 +/- 10.5% (P < 0.05). N omega-nitro-D-arginine did not affect the CBF response to Ado (n = 5). We conclude that 1) Ado is involved in coupling of CBF to neuronal activation, 2) NO is involved in this response as well, and 3) there is an interaction between the vasodilator pathways of Ado and NO.

Abstract
A 32-year infertile Japanese woman suffered from endometrial cancer, which was treated with repeated endometrial curettage and medroxyprogesterone acetate for 6 months. The patient then became pregnant and was delivered of a live-born male infant at 37 weeks gestation by cesarean section for placenta previa. At cesarean section there were no abnormal findings in the uterine cavity or other pelvic organs.

Abstract
Bovine cumulus-enclosed oocytes were matured in culture, freed from cumulus cells, and inseminated with frozen-thawed spermatozoa in a chemically defined protein-free medium containing 5 mM caffeine and 10 micrograms/ml heparin. No penetration of oocytes was observed in the medium without polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA); but when the medium was supplemented with 0.1-5 mg/ml PVA, penetration rates (9-16%) significantly increased. Sperm motility was also stimulated during incubation for 2 h in the presence of PVA. In the medium with 1 mg/ml PVA, a high penetration rate (24 of 62 = 39%) was observed at a sperm concentration of 10 x 10(6) cells/ml. When the bicarbonate concentration was changed in the fertilization medium containing 1 mg/ml PVA and 10 x 10(6) spermatozoa/ml, a high penetration rate (47 of 67 = 70%) and a high proportion (44 of 47 = 94%) of oocytes in which male and female pronuclei had developed were obtained at 46 mM NaHCO3. However, the penetration rate (58-95%), the incidence of pronuclear formation (64-96%), and the proportion of polyspermy (9-21%) varied according to the animal (five different bulls). Spermatozoa obtained from two bulls started to penetrate oocytes 5 h after insemination in the presence of 46 mM NaHCO3. This is the first report indicating that induction of capacitation of bull spermatozoa and penetration of oocytes matured in culture are possible in a chemically defined, protein-free medium.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We tested the hypothesis that cerebral hypoperfusion after experimental global cerebral ischemia is caused by plugging of the microcirculation with activated leukocytes using in vivo microscopic observation of the behavior of leukocytes in the cortical microcirculation during the transition from postischemic hyperperfusion to hypoperfusion. METHODS Anesthetized and ventilated rats (n = 24) were equipped with a closed cranial window. Physiological variables and cortical regional cerebral blood flow (laser-Doppler flowmetry) were measured continuously. Leukocytes were labeled intravitally with rhodamine 6G and visualized in the microcirculation of the brain surface and outer layers of the cortex with confocal laser scanning microscopy from preischemia to 4 hours after reperfusion that followed 10 minutes of global cerebral ischemia (rCBF < 10% of control). RESULTS In controls (n = 8), there were no signs of leukocyte activation over the 4-hour observation period. In ischemic rats (n = 16), during the transition from hyperperfusion to hypoperfusion there was no change in the behavior of leukocytes. Most notably, no capillary pluggers were seen. In the postischemic period only a slight increase of the number of leukocytes rolling along or sticking to the venular endothelium was seen, and very few capillaries were plugged by leukocytes. Extravasation of leukocytes into the brain tissue was observed in 8 rats beginning 2 hours after ischemia with a variable degree between animals. CONCLUSIONS Because there was only mild activation of leukocyte-endothelium interaction within the first hours of reperfusion after 10 minutes of global forebrain ischemia, because no leukocytes plugged superficial cortical capillaries during the transition from hyperperfusion to hypoperfusion, and because the regional cerebral blood flow transition was very rapid, we speculate that leukocyte plugging is not responsible for the early cortical hypoperfusion seen after brief global ischemia in rats.

Abstract
Mutants, KCP-4 and PC-5, resistant to an anticancer agent, cisplatin, were selected in multiple steps from human epidermoid KB carcinoma cells and human prostate PC-3 carcinoma cells, respectively. KCP-4 and PC-5 were 63 and 10 fold more resistant to cisplatin than the parental cells, respectively. KCP-4 cells exhibited increased resistance to cisplatin analogues and were also slightly cross-resistant to melphalan, cyclophosphamide, mitomycin C and methotrexate. KCP-4 cells were not cross-resistant to doxorubicin, daunorubicin, vincristine or CdSO4. The accumulations of cisplatin in KCP-4 cells and PC-5 in medium containing 50 microM cisplatin were approximately 20% of those in the parental cells. Revertant analysis suggested that a defect in cisplatin accumulation may be related to cisplatin resistance in PC-5 cells. The uncoupling agent of oxidative phosphorylation, 2,4-dinitrophenol, increased the accumulation of cisplatin in KCP-4 and cisplatin-resistant human prostate carcinoma PC-5 cells to nearly the same level as in their parental KB-3-1 and human prostate carcinoma PC-3 cells without 2,4-dinitrophenol, but did not increase accumulation in KB-3-1 and PC-3 cells. Addition of glucose in the medium inhibited the enhancement of cisplatin accumulation in KCP-4 cells by 2,4-dinitrophenol. Enhanced active efflux of cisplatin from KCP-4 cells was observed. A cell-cell hybridization test showed that the cisplatin resistance and the accumulation defect behaved as codominant traits. These data suggest that an active efflux system for cisplatin exists in cisplatin-resistant KCP-4 cells.
