Abstract
The development of all kinds of covalent drugs had a major impact on the improvement of the human health system. Covalent binding to target proteins is achieved by so-called electrophilic warheads, which are incorporated in the respective drug molecule. In the last decade, specifically acrylamides emerged as attractive warheads in covalent drug design. Herein, a straightforward palladium-catalyzed hydroaminocarbonylation of acetylene has been developed, allowing a modular and diverse synthesis of bio-active acrylamides. This general protocol features high atom efficiency, wide functional group compatibility, high chemoselectivity and proceeds additive free under mild reaction conditions. The synthetic utility of this protocol is showcased in the synthesis of ibrutinib, osimertinib, and other bio-active compound derivatives.

Abstract
The catalytic performance of cobalt complex catalysts coordinated with various poly(ionic liquids) for the methoxycarbonylation of diisobutene into methyl isononanoate was investigated. The poly(ionic liquids) were synthesized via a solvothermal polymerization method and were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption and elemental analyses. A diisobutene conversion of 88.0% and a methyl isononanoate selectivity of 91.4% were achieved using HVIMI-VPy-DVB (1 : 1)@Co2(CO)8 as catalysts at the optimized reaction conditions of 8.0 MPa CO and 150 °C. Furthermore, the catalyst system can be suitable for the methoxycarbonylation of various terminal olefins and exhibits high recoverability and thermostability.

Abstract
Controlling the regioselectivity for the alkoxycarbonylation of unsymmetric internal alkynes is challenging. Herein, a palladium-catalyzed ligand-controlled regiodivergent alkoxycarbonylation of internal trifluoromethylthiolated alkynes was achieved. A series of α- or β-SCF3 acrylates from the same trifluoromethylthiolated alkyne were obtained with moderate to high yield and regioselectivity.

Abstract
The development of stable and efficient ligands is of vital significance to enhance the catalytic performance of carbonylation reactions of alkenes. Herein, an aryldiphosphine ligand (L11) bearing the [Ph2P(ortho-C6H4)]2CH2 skeleton is reported for palladium-catalyzed regioselective carbonylation of alkenes. Compared with the industrially successful Pd/1,2-bis(di-tert-butylphosphinomethyl)benzene catalyst, catalytic efficiency catalyzed by Pd/L11 on methoxycarbonylation of ethylene is obtained, exhibiting better catalytic performance (TON: >2,390,000; TOF: 100,000 h-1; selectivity: >99%) and stronger oxygen-resistance stability. Moreover, a substrate compatibility (122 examples) including chiral and bioactive alkenes or alcohols is achieved with up to 99% yield and 99% regioselectivity. Experimental and computational investigations show that the appropriate bite angle of aryldiphosphine ligand and the favorable interaction of 1,4-dioxane with Pd/L11 synergistically contribute to high activity and selectivity while the electron deficient phosphines originated from electron delocalization endow L11 with excellent oxygen-resistance stability.

Abstract
Ethylene methoxycarbonylation (EMC) to methyl propanoate (MP) is an industrially important reaction and commercially uses a homogeneous Pd-phosphine organometallic complex as the catalyst and corrosive strong acid as the promoter. In this work, we develop a Pt1/MoS2 heterogeneous single-atom catalyst (SAC) which exhibits high activity, selectivity, and good recyclability for EMC reaction without need of any liquid acid. The production rate of MP achieves 0.35 gMP gcat-1 h-1 with MP selectivity of 91.1% at 1 MPa CO, 1 MPa C2H4, and 160 °C, which can be doubled at 2 MPa CO and corresponds to 320.1 molMP molPt-1 h-1, at least 1 order of magnitude higher than the earlier reported heterogeneous catalyst and even comparable to some of homogeneous catalyst. Advanced characterizations and DFT calculations reveal that all the Pt single atoms are located at the Mo vacancies along the Mo edge of the MoS2 nanosheets, forming pocket-like Mo-S-Pt1-S-Mo ensembles with uniform and well-defined structure. Methanol is first adsorbed and dissociated on Mo sites, and the produced H spillovers to the adjacent Pt site forming Pt-H species which then activate ethylene, forming Pt-ethyl species. Meanwhile, CO adsorbed on the other Mo site reacts with the Pt-ethyl species, yielding propionyl species, and this carbonylation is the rate-determining step. The final methoxylation step proceeds via the nucleophilic attack of propionyl species by -OCH3 affording the final product MP. Such a metal-support concerted catalysis enabled by the Mo-S-Pt1-S-Mo multisite ensemble opens a new avenue for SACs to promote the multimolecular reactions that prevail in homogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Palladium-catalysed alkoxycarbonylation of alkenes allows for atom-efficient synthesis of esters from easily available alkenes in an industrially viable manner. One of the major costs associated with this process is the consumption of the catalyst system. Hence, for economic and ecologic reasons it is desirable to minimize the amount of metal and ligands wherever possible. Herein, we report "a homeopathic" palladium-catalysed alkoxycarbonylation of olefins under comparably mild conditions. The key to success is the homemade ligand LIKATphos providing good to excellent yields of ester products with catalyst turnover numbers in the range of 106.

Abstract
Hemilability is an important concept in homogeneous catalysis where both the reactant activation and the product formation can occur simultaneously through a reversible opening and closing of the metal-ligand coordination sphere. However, this effect has rarely been discussed in heterogeneous catalysis. Here, by employing a theoretical study on CO oxidation over substituted Cu1/CeO2 single atom catalysts, we show that dynamic evolution of metal-support coordination can significantly change the electronic structure of the active center. The evolution of the active center is shown to either strengthen or weaken the metal-adsorbate bonding as the reaction proceeds from reactants, through intermediates, to products. As a result, the activity of the catalyst can be increased. We explain our observations by extending hemilability effects to single atom heterogenous catalysts and anticipate that introducing this concept can offer a new insight into the important role active site dynamics have in catalysis toward the rational design of more sophisticated single atom catalyst materials.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to study the palladium/Brønsted acid-catalyzed methoxycarbonylation and hydromethoxylation reactions of internal alkene. The calculated results show that the pyridyl group (N atom) in bidentate phosphine ligand with built-in base (L1) plays a crucial role in controlling the selectivity. With the help of the pyridyl group, the methanolysis steps in the methoxycarbonylation reaction and the hydromethoxylation reaction become easy, and both the linear ester methyl 3,4-dimethylpentanoate (P1) and the hydromethoxylation product 2-methoxy-2,3-dimethylbutane (P2) could be obtained. In contrast, the possibility of leading to branched ester P1' was ruled out according to our calculations. The steric effect could account for the observed selectivity. In the presence of the DPEphos ligand (L2) that does not bear the pyridyl group, the methanolysis step in the methoxycarbonylation reaction becomes the rate-determining step with a high overall energy barrier. Neither linear nor branched methoxycarbonylation product could be generated. The palladium/Brønsted acid co-catalyzed hydromethoxylation also become difficult without the assistance of the pyridyl group in the presence of the L2 ligand. Instead, TsOH-catalyzed hydromethoxylation reaction could take place to generate the ether product P2.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed linear-selective hydroesterification of vinyl arenes with alcohols enabled by diphosphine ligands derived from bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl]amides has been developed. A variety of 3-arylpropanoate esters were obtained in high yields and regioselectivity. The robustness of this methodology was further demonstrated by the efficient gram-scale synthesis of the ethyl 3-phenylpropanoate as a precursor to hydrocinnamic acid.

Abstract
We report the room-temperature Pd-catalyzed methoxy-carbonylation with high branched selectivity using a new class of bisphosphine-picolinamide ligands. Systematic optimization of ligand structures and reaction conditions revealed the significance of both the picolinamide and bisphosphine groups in the ligand backbone. This strategic design of ligand was leveraged to deliver various α-substituted acrylates in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
A new cobalt catalyst is presented for the domino hydroformylation-reductive amination reaction of olefins. The optimal Co-tert-BuPy-Xantphos catalyst shows good to excellent linear-to-branched (n/iso) regioselectivity for the reactions of aliphatic alkenes with aromatic amines under mild conditions. This system is far more selective than traditional cobalt(I) catalysts and even better than most known rhodium catalysts.

Abstract
The first direct and selective synthesis of substituted itaconimdes by palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of alkynols is reported. Key to the success of this transformation is the use of a novel catalyst system involving ligand L11 and appropriate reaction conditions. In the protocol here presented, easily available propargylic alcohols react with N-nucleophiles including aryl- and alkylamines as well as aryl hydrazines to provide a broad variety of interesting heterocycles with high catalyst activity and excellent selectivity. The synthetic utility of the protocol is demonstrated in the synthesis of natural product 11 with aminocarbonylation as the key step. Mechanistic studies and control experiments reveal the crucial role of the hydroxyl group in the substrate for the control of selectivity.

Abstract
This perspective highlights the computational modelling of alkene and alkyne alkoxycarbonylation at palladium catalysts. We cover studies on Pd-catalysed alkoxycarbonylation of alkenes with bidentate diphosphine ligands, which reveal a hydride pathway is operating with an intermolecular alcoholysis step, where explicit solvation is mandatory to estimate the overall barriers correctly and model alcoholysis/copolymerisation selectivities. Subsequently, we discuss Pd-catalysed alkyne alkoxycarbonylation with P,N-chelating ligands, where an in situ base mechanism is operating involving ketene-type intermediates. We also discuss catalyst poisoning due to allene and designing a potential new catalyst tolerant towards allene poisoning.

Abstract
As a fundamental type of carbonylation reaction, the alkoxy- and hydroxy-carbonylation of unsaturated hydrocarbons constitutes one of the most important industrial applications of homogeneous catalysis. However, owing to the difficulties in controlling multi-selectivities for asymmetric hydrocarbonylation of alkenes, this reaction is typically limited to vinylarenes and analogues. In this work, a highly efficient asymmetric alkoxy- and hydroxy-carbonylation of β-carbonyl functionalized alkenes was developed, providing practical and easy access to various densely functionalized chiral molecules with high optical purity from broadly available alkenes, CO, and nucleophiles (>90 examples, 84-99 % ee). This protocol features mild reaction conditions and a broad substrate scope, and the products can be readily transformed into a diverse array of chiral heterocycles. Control experiments revealed the key role of the β-carbonyl group in determining the enantioselectivity and promoting the activity, which facilitates chiral induction by coordination to the transition metal as rationalized by DFT calculations. The strategy of utilizing an innate functional group as the directing group on the alkene substrate might find further applications in catalytic asymmetric hydrocarbonylation reactions.

Abstract
The bidentate phosphine ligand 1,2-bis(di-tert-butylphosphinomethyl)benzene (1,2-DTBPMB) has been reported over the years as being one of, if not the, best ligands for achieving the alkoxycarbonylation of various unsaturated compounds. Bonded to palladium, the ligand provides the basis for the first step in the commercial (Alpha) production of methyl methacrylate as well as very high selectivity to linear esters and acids from terminal or internal double bonds. The present review is an overview covering the literature dealing with the 1,2-DTBPMB ligand: from its first reference, its catalysis, including the alkoxycarbonylation reaction and its mechanism, its isomerization abilities including the highly selective isomerizing methoxycarbonylation, other reactions such as cross-coupling, recycling approaches, and the development of improved, modified ligands, in which some tert-butyl ligands are replaced by 2-pyridyl moieties and which show exceptional rates for carbonylation reactions at low temperatures.

Abstract
The dicarbonylation of 1,3‐butadiene to adipic acid derivatives offers the potential for a more cost‐efficient and environmentally benign industrial process. However, the complex reaction network of regioisomeric carbonylation and isomerization pathways, make a selective and direct transformation particularly difficult. Here, we report surprising solvent effects on this palladium‐catalysed process in the presence of 1,2‐bis‐di‐tert‐butylphosphin‐oxylene (dtbpx) ligands, which allow adipate diester formation from 1,3‐butadiene, carbon monoxide, and methanol with 97 % selectivity and 100 % atom‐economy under scalable conditions. Under optimal conditions a variety of di‐ and triesters from 1,2‐ and 1,3‐dienes can be obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
An approach for the synthesis of quinolizinone with potential bioactivity has been developed via palladium-catalytic dearomative cyclocarbonylation of allyl alcohol. Diverse quinolizinone compounds could be attained with good efficiencies. A feasible reaction pathway could be a successive procedure of allylation, dearomatization, CO insertion and the Heck reaction.

Abstract
"CO-free" carbonylation reactions, where synthesis gas (CO/H2 ) is substituted by C1 surrogate molecules like formaldehyde or formic acid, have received widespread attention in homogeneous catalysis lately. Although a broad range of organics is available via this method, still relatively little is known about the precise reaction mechanism. In this work, we used in situ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to unravel the mechanism of the alkoxycarbonylation of alkenes using different surrogate molecules. In contrast to previous hypotheses no carbon monoxide could be found during the reaction. Instead the reaction proceeds via the C-H activation of in situ generated methyl formate. On the basis of quantitative NMR experiments, a kinetic model involving all major intermediates is built which enables the knowledge-driven optimization of the reaction. Finally, a new reaction mechanism is proposed on the basis of in situ observed Pd-hydride, Pd-formyl and Pd-acyl species.

Abstract
A chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective mono-hydroamidation of (un)symmetrical 1,3-diynes is described. Key for the success of this novel transformation is the utilization of an advanced palladium catalyst system with the specific ligand Neolephos. The synthetic value of this general approach to synthetically useful α-alkynyl-α, β-unsaturated amides is showcased by diversification of several structurally complex molecules and marketed drugs. Control experiments and density-functional theory (M06L-SMD) computations also suggest the crucial role of the substrate in controlling the regioselectivity of unsymmetrical 1,3-diynes.

Abstract
For the first time, the monoalkoxycarbonylation of easily available 1,3-diynes to give synthetically useful conjugated enynes has been realized. Key to success was the design and utilization of the new ligand 2,2'-bis(tert-butyl(pyridin-2-yl)phosphanyl)-1,1'-binaphthalene (Neolephos), which permits the palladium-catalyzed selective carbonylation under mild conditions, providing a general preparation of functionalized 1,3-enynes in good-to-high yields with excellent chemoselectivities. Synthetic applications that showcase the possibilities of this novel methodology include an efficient one-pot synthesis of 4-aryl-4H-pyrans as well as the rapid construction of various heterocyclic, bicyclic, and polycyclic compounds.

Abstract
This is a comprehensive study of the effects of rationally designed hemilabile ligands on the stability, reactivity, and change in catalytic behavior of indium complexes. We report cationic alkyl indium complexes supported by a family of hemi-salen type ligands bearing hemilabile thiophenyl (2a), furfuryl (2b) and pyridyl (2c) pendant donor arms. Shelf-life and stability of these complexes followed the trend 2a < 2b < 2c, showing direct correlation to the affinity of the pendant donor group to the indium center. Reactivity towards polymerization of epichlorohydrin and cyclohexene oxide followed the trend 2a > 2b > 2c with control of polymerization following an inverse relationship to reactivity. Surprisingly, 2c polymerized racemic lactide without an external initiator, likely through an alkyl-initiated coordination-insertion mechanism.
