Abstract
Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common endocrine malignancy. The incidence of PTC has increased annually worldwide. Thus, PTC diagnosis and treatment attract more attention. Noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in PTC progression and act as prognostic biomarkers. Moreover, microRNAs (miRNAs) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated proteins have potential biomarkers for diagnosing and treating PTC. However, the correlation of lncRNAs with miRNAs and EMT-associated proteins needs further clarification. The present review highlights the recent advances of lncRNAs in PTC. We significantly summarized the two molecular regulatory mechanisms in PTC progress, including lncRNAs-miRNAs-protein signaling axes and lncRNAs-EMT pathways. This review will help our understanding of the association between lncRNAs and PTC and may assist us in evaluating the prognosis for PTC patients. Taken together, targeting the lncRNAs regulatory network has promising applications in diagnosing and treating PTC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess how changes in depressive symptoms influence physical function over time among those with radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS Participants from the Osteoarthritis Initiative with radiographic knee OA (n = 2,212) and complete data were identified at baseline. Depressive symptoms were assessed as a time-varying score at baseline and the first three annual follow-up visits using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) Scale. Physical function was measured at the first four follow-up visits using 20-meter gait speed meters per second. The following two marginal structural models were fit: one assessing the main effect of depressive symptoms on gait speed and another assessing time-specific associations. RESULTS Time-adjusted results indicated that higher CES-D scores were significantly associated with slower gait speed (-0.0048; 95% confidence interval -0.0082 to -0.0014), and time-specific associations of CES-D were largest during the first follow-up interval (-0.0082; 95% confidence interval -0.0128 to -0.0035). During subsequent follow-up time points, the influence of depressive symptoms on gait speed diminished. CONCLUSION The negative effect of depressive symptoms on physical function may decrease over time as knee OA progresses.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a low-grade, nonspecific inflammatory disease that affects the entire joint. This condition is characterized by synovitis, cartilage erosion, subchondral bone defects, and subpatellar fat pad damage. There is mounting evidence demonstrating the significance of crosstalk between synovitis and cartilage destruction in the development of OA. To comprehensively explore the phenotypic alterations of synovitis and cartilage destruction, it is important to elucidate the crosstalk mechanisms between chondrocytes and synovial cells. Furthermore, the updated iteration of single-cell sequencing technology reveals the interaction between chondrocyte and synovial cells. In the present review, the histological and pathological alterations between cartilage and synovium during OA progression are described, and the mode of interaction and molecular mechanisms between synovial cells and chondrocytes in OA, both of which affect the OA process mainly by altering the inflammatory environment and cellular state, are elucidated. Finally, the current OA therapeutic approaches are summarized and emerging therapeutic targets are reviewed in an attempt to provide potential insights into OA treatment.

Abstract
Cardiac hypertrophy is one of the key processes in the development of heart failure. Notably, small GTPases and GTPase‑activating proteins (GAPs) serve essential roles in cardiac hypertrophy. RhoGAP interacting with CIP4 homologs protein 1 (RICH1) is a RhoGAP that can regulate Cdc42/Rac1 and F‑actin dynamics. RICH1 is involved in cell proliferation and adhesion; however, to the best of our knowledge, its role in cardiac hypertrophy remains unknown. In the present study, the role of RICH1 in cardiomyocyte hypertrophy was assessed. Cell viability was analyzed using the Cell Counting Kit‑8 assay and cells surface area (CSA) was determined by cell fluorescence staining. Reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR and western blotting were used to assess the mRNA expression levels of hypertrophic marker genes, such as Nppa, Nppb and Myh7, and the protein expression levels of RICH1, respectively. RICH1 was shown to be downregulated in isoproterenol (ISO)‑ or angiotensin II (Ang II)‑treated H9c2 cells. Notably, overexpression of RICH1 attenuated the upregulation of hypertrophy‑related markers, such as Nppa, Nppb and Myh7, and the enlargement of CSA induced by ISO and Ang II. By contrast, the knockdown of RICH1 exacerbated these effects. These findings suggested that RICH1 may be a novel suppressor of ISO‑ or Ang II‑induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. The results of the present study will be beneficial to further studies assessing the role of RICH1 and its downstream molecules in inhibiting cardiac hypertrophy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Osteoarthritis (OA) is a whole-joint disease in which the role of the infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) in its pathogenesis is unclear. Our study explored the cellular heterogeneity of IFP to understand OA and identify therapeutic targets. METHODS Single-cell and single-nuclei RNA sequencing were used to analyze 10 IFP samples, comprising 5 from OA patients and 5 from healthy controls. Analyses included differential gene expression, enrichment, pseudotime trajectory, and cellular communication, along with comparative studies with visceral and subcutaneous fats. Key subcluster and pathways were validated using multiplex immunohistochemistry. RESULTS The scRNA-seq performed on the IFPs of the OA and control group profiled the gene expressions of over 49,674 cells belonging to 11 major cell types. We discovered that adipose stem and progenitor cells (ASPCs), contributing to the formation of both adipocytes and synovial-lining fibroblasts (SLF). Interstitial inflammatory fibroblasts (iiFBs) were a subcluster of ASPCs that exhibit notable pro-inflammatory and proliferative characteristics. We identified four adipocyte subtypes, with one subtype showing a reduced lipid synthesis ability. Furthermore, iiFBs modulated the activities of macrophages and T cells in the IFP. Compared to subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissues, iiFBs represented a distinctive subpopulation of ASPCs in IFP that regulated cartilage proliferation through the MK pathway. CONCLUSION This study presents a comprehensive single-cell transcriptomic atlas of IFP, uncovering its complex cellular landscape and potential impact on OA progression. Our findings highlight the role of iiFBs in OA, especially through MK pathway, opening new avenues for understanding OA pathogenesis and developing novel targeted therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Regular physical activity during childhood and adolescence is beneficial to bone development, as evidenced by the ability to increase bone density and peak bone mass by promoting bone formation.
AIM To investigate the effects of exercise on bone formation in growing mice and to investigate the underlying mechanisms.
METHODS 20 growing mice were randomly divided into two groups: Con group (control group, n = 10) and Ex group (treadmill exercise group, n = 10). Hematoxylin-eosin staining, immunohistochemistry, and micro-CT scanning were used to assess the bone formation-related indexes of the mouse femur. Bioinformatics analysis was used to find potential miRNAs targets of long non-coding RNA H19 (lncRNA H19). RT-qPCR and Western Blot were used to confirm potential miRNA target genes of lncRNA H19 and the role of lncRNA H19 in promoting osteogenic differentiation.
RESULTS Compared with the Con group, the expression of bone morphogenetic protein 2 was also significantly increased. The micro-CT results showed that 8 wk moderate-intensity treadmill exercise significantly increased bone mineral density, bone volume fraction, and the number of trabeculae, and decreased trabecular segregation in the femur of mice. Inhibition of lncRNA H19 significantly upregulated the expression of miR-149 and suppressed the expression of markers of osteogenic differentiation. In addition, knockdown of lncRNA H19 significantly downregulated the expression of autophagy markers, which is consistent with the results of autophagy-related protein changes detected in mouse femurs by immunofluorescence.
CONCLUSION Appropriate treadmill exercise can effectively stimulate bone formation and promote the increase of bone density and bone volume in growing mice, thus enhancing the peak bone mass of mice. The lncRNA H19/miR-149 axis plays an important regulatory role in osteogenic differentiation.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a multifaceted pathological condition characterized by the atypical accumulation of various metabolic components such as central obesity or excess weight, hyperlipidemia, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), hypertension, and insulin resistance. Recently, MS has been recognized as a notable contributor to heart and circulatory diseases. In addition, with increasing research, the impact of MS on tendon repair and disease has gradually emerged. Recent studies have investigated the relationship between tendon healing and diseases such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity, and other metabolic disorders. However, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and various metabolic disorders often coexist and together constitute MS. At present, insulin resistance is considered the major pathological mechanism underlying MS, central obesity is regarded as the predominant factor responsible for it, and dyslipidemia and other metabolic diseases are known as secondary contributors to MS. This review aims to evaluate the current literature regarding the impact of various pathological conditions in MS on tendon recovery and illness, and to present a comprehensive overview of the effects of MS on tendon recovery and diseases, along with the accompanying molecular mechanisms.

Tissue engineering for injured tissue replacement and regeneration has been a subject of investigation over the last 30 years, and there has been considerable interest in using additive manufacturing to achieve these goals. Despite such efforts, many key questions remain unanswered, particularly in the area of biomaterial selection for these applications as well as quantitative understanding of the process science. The strategic utilization of biological macromolecules provides a versatile approach to meet diverse requirements in 3D printing, such as printability, buildability, and biocompatibility. These molecules play a pivotal role in both physical and chemical cross-linking processes throughout the biofabrication, contributing significantly to the overall success of the 3D printing process. Among the several bioprintable materials, gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) has been widely utilized for diverse tissue engineering applications, with some degree of success. In this context, this review will discuss the key bioengineering approaches to identify the gelation and cross-linking strategies that are appropriate to control the rheology, printability, and buildability of biomaterial inks. This review will focus on the GelMA as the structural (scaffold) biomaterial for different tissues and as a potential carrier vehicle for the transport of living cells as well as their maintenance and viability in the physiological system. Recognizing the importance of printability toward shape fidelity and biophysical properties, a major focus in this review has been to discuss the qualitative and quantitative impact of the key factors, including microrheological, viscoelastic, gelation, shear thinning properties of biomaterial inks, and printing parameters, in particular, reference to 3D extrusion printing of GelMA-based biomaterial inks. Specifically, we emphasize the different possibilities to regulate mechanical, swelling, biodegradation, and cellular functionalities of GelMA-based bio(material) inks, by hybridization techniques, including different synthetic and natural biopolymers, inorganic nanofillers, and microcarriers. At the close, the potential possibility of the integration of experimental data sets and artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches is emphasized to predict the printability, shape fidelity, or biophysical properties of GelMA bio(material) inks for clinically relevant tissues.

Abstract
After a stroke, most patients have dysphagia, which can lead to aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, and adverse functional outcomes. Protective interventions aimed at reducing these complications remain the cornerstone of treatment. Dietary adjustments and oral hygiene help mitigate the risk of aspiration pneumonia, and nutritional supplementation, including tube feeding, might be needed to prevent malnutrition. Rehabilitative interventions aim to enhance swallowing function, with different behavioural strategies showing promise in small studies. Investigations have explored the use of pharmaceutical agents such as capsaicin and other Transient-Receptor-Potential-Vanilloid-1 (TRPV-1) sensory receptor agonists, which alter sensory perception in the pharynx. Neurostimulation techniques, such as transcranial direct current stimulation, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, and pharyngeal electrical stimulation, might promote neuroplasticity within the sensorimotor swallowing network. Further advancements in the understanding of central and peripheral sensorimotor mechanisms in patients with dysphagia after a stroke, and during their recovery, will contribute to optimising treatment protocols.

Abstract
PURPOSE Hypoplastic pedicles of the thoracolumbar spine (<5 mm diameter) are often found in syndromic deformities of the spine and pose a challenge in pedicle screw instrumentation. 3D-printed patient-specific guides might help overcome anatomical difficulties when instrumenting pedicles with screws, thereby reducing the necessity for less effective fixation methods such as hooks or sublaminar wires. In this study, the surgical feasibility and clinical outcome of patients with hypoplastic pedicles following pedicle screw instrumentation with 3D-printed patient-specific guides were assessed. METHODS Hypoplastic pedicles were identified on preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans in six patients undergoing posterior spinal fusion surgery between 2017 and 2020. Based on these preoperative CT scans, patient-specific guides were produced to help with screw instrumentation of these thin pedicles. Postoperatively, pedicle-screw-related complications or revisions were analyzed. RESULTS 93/105 (88.6%) pedicle screws placed with patient-specific guides were instrumented. 62/93 (66.7%) of these instrumented pedicles were defined as hypoplastic with a mean width of 3.07 mm (SD ±0.98 mm, 95% CI [2.82-3.32]). Overall, 6 complications in the 62 hypoplastic pedicles (9.7%) were observed and included intraoperatively managed 4 cerebrospinal fluid leaks, 1 pneumothorax and 1 delayed revision due to 2 lumbar screws (2/62, 3.3%) impinging the L3 nerve root causing a painful radiculopathy. The mean follow-up time was 26.7 (SD ±11.7) months. Complications were only noted when the pedicle-width-to-screw-diameter ratio measured less than 0.62. CONCLUSION Patient-specific 3D-printed guides can aid in challenging instrumentation of hypoplastic pedicles in the thoracolumbar spine, especially if the pedicle-width-to-screw-diameter ratio is greater than 0.62.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The approach to managing the footprint area and reconstructing the tendon-bone interface (TBI) is critical for optimal healing. PURPOSE To evaluate the outcomes of the semi-bone tunnel (SBT) technique using a double-row suture bridge combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hydrogel for rotator cuff repair in a rabbit model. STUDY DESIGN Controlled laboratory study. METHODS A total of 48 New Zealand White rabbits were divided into 4 groups. The supraspinatus tendons were severed at the footprint to create a rotator cuff tear model in the surgical groups. Rabbits were treated with the traditional onto-surface repair (control group), SBT technique (SBT group), and SBT technique combined with PRP hydrogel implantation (SBT+PRP group). The rabbits without surgery were the normal group. At 8 weeks after surgery, macroscopic observation, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and micro-computed tomography (μCT) examinations, histological evaluations, and biomechanical tests were performed to assess the curative effects of the given treatments. RESULTS The MRI results showed that the repaired supraspinatus tendon presented a uniform signal, minimal inflammatory response, and the lowest signal-to-noise quotient value in the SBT+PRP group. The μCT results suggested that the SBT technique did not reduce the local bone mineral density in the TBI area compared with the onto-surface repair technique. The histological staining results showed that the regenerated TBI in the SBT+PRP group had a 4-layer structure similar to the natural tissue. The highest values for biomechanical properties were observed in the SBT+PRP group, and there was no significant difference between the SBT+PRP group and normal group. CONCLUSION The SBT technique presented a better tendon-bone healing effect for rotator cuff tear in the rabbit model compared with the traditional onto-surface repair technique. The specimens in the SBT+PRP group had a similar TBI structure and biomechanical properties to the natural tissue. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The SBT technique can be an alternative surgical approach for rotator cuff repair, especially for moderate to large tears and cases requiring scaffold implantation.

Abstract
The suprapatellar fat pad is an adipose tissue located in the anterior knee whose role in osteoarthritis is still debated. Considering that anatomy drives function, the aim of this histotopographic study was to investigate the specific morphological features of the suprapatellar fat pad versus the infrapatellar fat pad in the absence of osteoarthritis, for a broad comparative analysis. Suprapatellar fat pad and infrapatellar fat pad tissue samples (n = 10/group) underwent microscopical/immunohistochemical staining and transmission electron microscopy analysis; thus, tissue-specific characteristics (i.e., vessels and nerve endings presence, lobuli, adipocytes features, septa), including extracellular matrix proteins prevalence (collagens, elastic fibers), were focused. Multiphoton microscopy was also adopted to evaluate collagen fiber orientation within the samples by Fast Fourier Transform (coherency calculation). The absence of inflammation was confirmed, and comparable counted vessels and nerve endings were shown. Like the infrapatellar fat pad, the suprapatellar fat pad appeared as a white adipose tissue with lobuli and septa of comparable diameter and thickness, respectively. Tissue main characteristics were also proved by both semithin sections and transmission electron microscopy analysis. The suprapatellar fat pad adipocytes were roundish and with a smaller area, perimeter, and major axis than that of the infrapatellar fat pad. The collagen fibers surrounding them showed no significant difference in collagen type I and significantly higher values for collagen type III in the infrapatellar fat pad group. Regarding the septa, elastic fiber content was statistically comparable between the two groups, even though more represented by the suprapatellar fat pad. Total collagen was significantly higher in the infrapatellar fat pad and comparing collagen type I and type III they were similarly represented in the whole cohort despite collagen type I appearing to be higher in the infrapatellar fat pad than in the suprapatellar fat pad and vice versa for collagen type III. Second harmonic generation microscopy confirmed through coherency calculation an anisotropic distribution of septa collagen fibers. From a mechanical point of view, the different morphological characteristics determined a major stiffness for the infrapatellar fat pad with respect to the suprapatellar fat pad. This study provides, for the first time, a topographic description of the suprapatellar fat pad compared to the infrapatellar fat pad; differences between the two groups may be attributed to a different anatomical location within the knee; the results gathered here may be useful for a more complete interpretation of osteoarthritis disease, involving not only cartilage but the whole joint.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rotator cuff injury (RCI) is a common shoulder injury, which is difficult to be completely repaired by surgery. Hence, new strategies are needed to promote the healing of tendon-bone. OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the effect of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) overexpressing RUNX1 on the tendon-bone healing after RCI, and to further explore its mechanism. METHODS Lentiviral vector was used to mediate the overexpression of RUNX1. RUNX1-overexpressed UCB-MSCs (referred to as MSC-RUNX1) were co-cultured with osteoclasts, and TRAP staining was performed to observe the formation of osteoclasts. Then MSC-RUNX1 was cultured in osteogenic differentiation medium, Alizarin red staining was conducted to detect osteogenic differentiation. The expression of markers of osteogenesis and osteoclast was detected by RT-qPCR. EA. hy926 cells were co-cultured with MSC-RUNX1. Transwell assay was used to detect the migration, and the expression of angiogenesis related-genes VEGF and TGF-β was detected by RT-qPCR. The rat rotator cuff reconstruction model was established and MSCs were injected at the tendon-bone junction. Biomechanical test and micro-CT scanning were performed, and HE, Masson and Alcian Blue staining were used for histological evaluation of tendon-bone healing. TUNEL and PCNA immunofluorescence (IF) staining were performed to evaluate apoptosis and proliferation at the tendon-bone healing site. The levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 in serum were detected by ELISA. The expression of CD31 and Endomucin that related to angiogenesis was detected by IF. Safranin O-fast and TRAP/CD40L immunohistochemical staining were used to assess the levels of osteoclasts and osteoblasts at the tendon-bone healing site. RESULTS hUC-MSCs overexpressing RUNX1 inhibited osteoclast formation and promoted osteogenic differentiation. MSC-RUNX1 could promote the migration and tube formation of EA. hy926 cells, and up-regulate the levels of VEGF and TGF-β. Model mice treated with MSC-RUNX1 partially restored the biomechanical indexes. Treatment of MSC-RUNX1 obviously increased the bone density, accompanied by the formation of new bone. In vivo experiments showed that MSC-RUNX1 treatment could promote tendon-bone healing and inhibit inflammatory response in rats. MSC-RUNX1 treatment also promoted angiogenesis at the tendon-bone healing site, while inhibiting osteoclast formation and promoting osteogenic differentiation. CONCLUSION hUC-MSCs overexpressing RUNX1 can inhibit the formation of osteoclasts and differentiation of osteoblasts, promote angiogenesis and inhibit inflammation, thereby promoting tendon-bone healing after RCI.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of the present systematic review was to quantitatively synthesize the best literature evidence regarding osteoarthritis developing after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), including only studies with a follow-up duration of at least 20 years. Material and Methods A systematic review was conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines on four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE and Cochrane Library). The outcome measures extracted from the studies were failure rate, subsequent knee surgery on the same knee, radiographic development of osteoarthritis measured with Kellgren-Lawrence, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) radiographic score and Ahlbäck classification. The health of both the ACLR knee and the contralateral knee was compared. Results A total of 1552 patients were included in the study, of which 1290 (83.11%) were operated on using a patellar tendon graft, 190 (12.24%) with hamstrings, 27 (1.73%) with an iliotibial band and 45 (2.89%) with patellar tendon plus a ligament augmentation device (LAD). The mean age at the time of surgery was 25.18 ± 1.91 years, and the mean follow-up time was 23.34 ± 2.56 years. Analysing IDKC Score at final follow-up, ACLR Group showed a higher degree of OA compared with contralateral healthy knee (p < 0.01), but only 33.2% (324/976) of the patients showed a moderate to severe degree (Grade C or D) of osteoarthritis, while for Kellgren-Lawrence, ACLR Group showed a higher degree of OA compared with contralateral healthy knee (p < 0.01), but only 28.9% (196/678) of the patients showed a moderate to severe degree (Grade III or IV) of osteoarthritis. In total, 1552 patients were registered, 155 reruptures (9.98%) and a total of 300 (19.3%) new surgeries, of which 228 meniscectomy (14.69%), 21 (1.35%) knee arthroplasty and 17 (1.09%) hardware removal were recorded. Conclusions ACL reconstruction appears to result in mild osteoarthritis in the long term in most of the patients and only less than 33.2% develop a moderate to severe degree of knee OA according to IKDC radiographic score. A slight degree of osteoarthritis appears to be present in ACLR knees compared with contralateral healthy knees. Level of Evidence Level IV.

Abstract
The tendon-bone interface heals through scar tissue, while the lack of a natural interface gradient structure and collagen fibre alignment leads to the occurrence of retearing. Therefore, the promotion of tendon healing has become the focus of regenerative medicine. The purpose of this study was to develop a gradient COL1/ hydroxyapatite (HAp) biomaterial loaded with human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs). The performance of common cross-linking agents, Genipin, 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC/NHS), and dual cross-linked materials were compared to select the best cross-linking mechanism to optimize the biological and mechanical properties of the scaffold. The optimal COL1/HAp-loaded with hAMSCs were implanted into the tendon-bone rotator cuff interfaces in rats and the effect on the tendon-bone healing was assessed by micro-CT, histological analysis, and biomechanical properties. The results showed that Genipin and EDC/NHS dual cross-linked COL1/HAp had good biological activity and mechanical properties and promoted the proliferation and differentiation of hAMSCs. Animal experiments showed that the group using a scaffold loaded with hAMSCs had excellent continuity and orientation of collagen fibers, increased fibrocartilage and bone formation, and significantly higher biomechanical functions than the control group at the interface at 12 weeks post operation. This study demonstrated that dual cross-linked gradient COL1/HAp-loaded hAMSCs could promote interface healing, thereby providing a feasible strategy for tendon-bone interface regeneration.

Abstract
Several edible plants contain flavonoids, including myricetin (Myr), which perform a wide range of biological activities. Myr has antitumor properties against various tumor cells. In this study Myr-loaded PEGylated niosomes (Myr-PN) were prepared and their anti-cancer activities were evaluated in vitro. Myr-PNs were prepared as a tool for drug delivery to the tumor site. Myr-PN was characterized in terms of size, zeta potential, and functional groups using dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Myr-PN size was 241 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.20, and zeta potential -32.7±6.6 mV. Apoptotic properties of Myr-PN against normal and cancer cell lines were determined by flow cytometry and real-time quantitative PCR. Cancer cells showed higher cytotoxicity when treated with Myr-PN compared with normal cells, indicating that the synthesized nanoparticles pose no adverse effects. Apoptosis was induced in cells treated with 250 μg/mL of Myr-PN, in which 45.2 % of cells were arrested in subG1, suggesting that Myr-PN can induce apoptosis. In vitro, the synthesized Myr-PN demonstrated potent anticancer properties. Furthermore, more research should be conducted in vitro and in vivo to study the more details of Myr-PN anti-cancer effects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Knee kinematic asymmetries after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are correlated with poor clinical outcomes, such as the progression of knee cartilage degenerations or reinjuries. Fast walking in patients with knee conditions may exacerbate knee kinematic asymmetries, but its impact on ACLR patients is uncertain. The aim of this study is to investigate if fast walking induces more knee kinematic asymmetries in unilateral ACLR patients. METHODS This cross-sectional study enrolled 55 patients with unilateral ACLR from January 2020 to July 2022. There were 48 males and seven females with an average age of 30.6 ± 6.4 years. Knee kinematic data were collected at three walking speeds: self-selected, fast (150% normal), and slow (50% normal). A 3D knee kinematic analysis system measured the data, and self-reported outcomes assessed comfort levels during walking. We used SPM1D for two-way repeated ANOVA and posthoc paired t-tests to analyze kinematic differences in groups. RESULTS In fast walking, ACLR knees exhibited more transverse kinematic asymmetries than intact knees, including greater external rotation angle (1.8°, 38%-43%; gait cycle [GC], p < 0.05 & 1.8-2.7°, 50%-61% GC, p < 0.05) and increased proximal tibial translation (2.1-2.5 mm, 2%-6% GC, p < 0.05 & 2.5-3.2 mm, 92%-96% GC, p < 0.05). Additionally, ACLR knees showed greater posterior tibial translation than intact knees (3.6-3.7 mm, 7%-8% GC, p < 0.05) during fast walking. No posterior tibial translation asymmetries were observed in slow walking compared to normal walking levels. ACLR knees have the most comfortable feelings in slow walking speed, and the most uncomfortable feelings in fast walking speed levels (29%). CONCLUSIONS Fast walking induces additional external tibial rotation and proximal and posterior tibial translation asymmetries in ACLR patients. This raises concerns about long-term safety and health during fast walking. Fast walking, not self-selected speed, is beneficial for identifying postoperative gait asymmetries in ACLR patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thickened water has been widely used in patients with dysphagia who receive oral feeding, but there is little evidence for tube-feeding patients. OBJECTIVE To explore the effects of thickened water swallow training in tube-feeding and dysphagia patients in the acute and early subacute phases of stroke. METHODS A quasi-experimental study. Hospitalised patients with acute and early subacute stroke who received tube feeding due to dysphagia were recruited from March to December 2021. Patients assigned to the intervention group (n = 23) received thickened water swallow training three times daily until the feeding tube was removed or they were discharged, and patients in the control group (n = 23) received usual care. The main outcomes were duration of tube feeding and rates of weaning at discharge. RESULTS Patients in the intervention group had a shorter tube-feeding duration (p = .046) and a higher rate of weaning at discharge (p = .017) than those in the control group. Significant interaction effects between time and group were detected regarding quality of life except for the swallowing burden dimension. CONCLUSIONS Thickened water swallow training is feasible and effective for stroke patients with tube feeding and can shorten the duration of tube feeding and improve the rates of weaning and quality of life. Healthcare providers in nonrehabilitation units should actively conduct swallowing function intervention training to maximise the potential for acute and early subacute phase rehabilitation.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the accuracy of placement for cervical pedicle screws with and without the use of spinal navigation. METHODS A structured search was conducted in electronic databases without any language or date restrictions. Eligible studies reported the proportion of accurately placed cervical pedicle screws measured on intraoperative or postoperative 3D imaging, and reported whether intraoperative navigation was used during screw placement. Randomized Studies (MINORS) criteria were used to evaluate the methodological quality of how accuracy was assessed for cervical pedicle screws. RESULTS After screening and critical appraisal, 4697 cervical pedicle screws from 18 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled proportion for cervical pedicle screws with a breach up to 2 mm was 94% for navigated screws and did not differ from the pooled proportion for non-navigated screws (96%). The pooled proportion for cervical pedicle screws placed completely in the pedicle was 76% for navigated screws and did not differ from the pooled proportion for non-navigated screws (82%). Intraoperative screw reposition rates and screw revision rates as a result of postoperative imaging also did not differ between navigated and non-navigated screw placement. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review and meta-analysis found that the use of spinal navigation systems does not significantly improve the accuracy of placement of cervical pedicle screws compared to screws placed without navigation. Future studies evaluating intraoperative navigation for cervical pedicle screw placement should focus on the learning curve, postoperative complications, and the complexity of surgical cases.

Abstract
Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are commonly seen with concomitant injuries to the posterolateral tibial plateau, while the occurrence of ACL injuries in posterolateral tibial plateau fractures (PTPFs) remains unclear. Purpose To (1) explore the incidence of knee ligament (anterior or posterior cruciate ligament, medial or lateral collateral ligament) and medial or lateral meniscus injuries in patients with PTPF and (2) find reliable PTPF-related parameters to predict the risk of knee ligament and meniscal injuries. Study Design Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods Patients diagnosed with PTPF who had computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data were identified. Morphological parameters of the PTPF were measured on sagittal computed tomography images. Knee ligament and meniscal injuries were assessed using MRI. The association of ACL injuries with meniscal injuries was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to determine the value and cutoff point of the PTPF morphological parameters for diagnosing complete in-substance ACL tears. Results Overall, 113 patients with PTPF were included. ACL injuries were present in 94 (83.2%) patients, including 43 (38.1%) avulsion fractures and 28 (24.8%) complete in-substance tears. Patients with in-substance ACL tears had a higher incidence of lateral meniscus posterior horn tears compared with the other patients (PBonferroni < .001). ROC analysis revealed that both the fracture depression angle (cutoff point, 25.5°) and the posterior articular surface loss percentage (cutoff point, 37.5%) had a sensitivity >90% and a specificity >80% for the diagnosis of complete in-substance ACL tears. Conclusion ACL injuries were seen in 83.2% of the study patients. Complete in-substance ACL tears were associated with an increased incidence of lateral meniscus posterior horn tears. Among PTPF parameters, fracture depression angle and posterior articular surface loss percentage showed a high predictive value for the presence of complete in-substance ACL tears, thereby reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
Background After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR) athletes face the challenge of regaining their previous competitive level while avoiding re-injury and early knee joint cartilage degeneration. Quadriceps and hamstrings strength reductions and neuromuscular alterations potentially related to risk of re-injury are present after ACLR and relate to deficits in muscle activation. Design Cross-sectional laboratory study. Purpose To examine quadriceps and hamstrings muscle activation during repeated hops in healthy pivoting-sport athletes and those who had undergone ACLR (bone-tendon-bone and semitendinosus graft) who had met functional criteria allowing return to training. Methods Surface electromyography (SEMG) was recorded from vastus medialis and lateralis and medial and lateral hamstrings bilaterally during 30 seconds' repeated hopping in male athletes on average eight months after ACLR surgery (5-12 months). All patients underwent hamstring (HS) (n=24) or bone-tendon-bone (BTB) reconstruction (n=20) and were compared to healthy controls (n=31). The SEMG signals were normalized to those obtained during maximal voluntary isometric contraction. Results A significant time shift in peak muscle activation (earlier) was seen for: vastus medialis and vastus lateralis activation in the control group, in the BTB group's healthy (but not injured) leg and both legs of the HS group. A significant time shift in peak muscle activation was seen for lateral hamstrings (earlier) in all but the BTB group's injured leg and the medial hamstrings in the control group only. Lower peak activation levels of the vastus lateralis (p\<0.001) and vastus medialis (p\<0.001) were observed in the injured compared to healthy legs and lower peak lateral hamstrings activity (p\<0.009) in the injured leg compared to control leg. Decline in medial hamstring peak activation (p\<0.022) was observed between 1st and 3rd phase of the hop cycle in all groups. Conclusion Repeated hop testing revealed quadriceps and hamstring activation differences within ACLR athletes, and compared to healthy controls, that would be missed with single hop tests. Abstract
BACKGROUND Caring for people with intellectual disabilities poses substantial challenges. Nursing students' emotions, thoughts, and behaviors during their education in the context of people with intellectual disabilities, remain relatively unexplored. OBJECTIVES To examine nursing students' emotions, thoughts, competence, and expected professional behaviors in care provision for people with intellectual disabilities, as well as to identify factors associated with their expected professional behaviors with this population. DESIGN A cross-sectional study using a closed self-report questionnaire and one open-ended question. SETTING The largest academic nursing department in Israel. PARTICIPANTS Of 245 sophomore nursing students, 177 agreed to participate (71.4 % response rate). METHODS The study measured feelings, thoughts, competence, and expected professional behaviors in care provision for people with intellectual disabilities based on the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale. One open-ended question addressed how students believe their competence in caring for people with intellectual disabilities could be improved during their nursing studies. A hierarchical linear regression analysis was performed to investigate the contribution of emotions, thoughts, and competence to explaining expected behaviors in care provision. The significance of the model and the R2 were calculated. The open-ended question was analyzed by the constant comparative method. RESULTS Negative emotions and thoughts (β = -0.37, 95 % CI -0.47; -0.15 and β = -0.33, 95 % CI -0.39; -0.13, respectively), along with positive emotions (β = 0.25, 95 % CI 0.07;0.33), showed significant associations with expected professional behaviors. Qualitative analysis revealed three key themes: communication concern, knowledge gap, and curiosity. The findings of the open-ended question corroborate the quantitative findings. CONCLUSION It is important to realize that in order to develop quality professional skills for caring for people with intellectual disability, nursing educators must adopt a deep discussion of negative emotions and thoughts with their students regarding people with intellectual disabilities. Ignoring these negative emotions and thoughts can exacerbate the neglect of people with intellectual disabilities' health needs.

Abstract
Calcium phosphate (CaP) biomaterials are amongst the most widely used synthetic bone graft substitutes, owing to their chemical similarities to the mineral part of bone matrix and off-the-shelf availability. However, their ability to regenerate bone in critical-sized bone defects has remained inferior to the gold standard autologous bone. Hence, there is a need for methods that can be employed to efficiently produce CaPs with different properties, enabling the screening and consequent fine-tuning of the properties of CaPs towards effective bone regeneration. To this end, we propose the use of droplet microfluidics for rapid production of a variety of CaP microparticles. Particularly, this study aims to optimize the steps of a droplet microfluidic-based production process, including droplet generation, in-droplet CaP synthesis, purification and sintering, in order to obtain a library of CaP microparticles with fine-tuned properties. The results showed that size-controlled, monodisperse water-in-oil microdroplets containing calcium- and phosphate-rich solutions can be produced using a flow-focusing droplet-generator microfluidic chip. We optimized synthesis protocols based on in-droplet mineralization to obtain a range of CaP microparticles without and with inorganic additives. This was achieved by adjusting synthesis parameters, such as precursor concentration, pH value, and aging time, and applying heat treatment. In addition, our results indicated that the synthesis and fabrication parameters of CaPs in this method can alter the microstructure and the degradation behavior of CaPs. Overall, the results highlight the potential of the droplet microfluidic platform for engineering CaP microparticle biomaterials with fine-tuned properties.

Abstract
Development of efficient controlled local release of drugs that prevent systemic side effects is a challenge for anti-osteoporotic treatments. Research for new bone-regeneration materials is of high importance. Strontium (Sr) is known as an anti-resorptive and anabolic agent useful in treating osteoporosis. In this study, we compared two different types of synthesis used for obtaining nano hydroxyapatite (HA) and Sr-containing nano hydroxyapatite (SrHA) for bone tissue engineering. Synthesis of HA and SrHA was performed using co-precipitation and hydrothermal methods. Regardless of the synthesis route for the SrHA, the intended content of Sr was 1, 5, 10, 20, and 30 molar %. The chemical, morphological, and biocompatibility properties of HA and SrHA were investigated. Based on our results, it was shown that HA and SrHA exhibited low cytotoxicity and demonstrated toxic behavior only at higher Sr concentrations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of mind-body exercise on improving knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and thereby informing osteoarthritis exercise rehabilitation. METHODS The China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EBSCO, Embase, Scopus, and ProQuest databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that involved tai chi, yoga, and baduanjin interventions for KOA. The search period ranged from inception to October 25, 2022. The methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated by the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool, and the included data were statistically analyzed and plotted using Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 14.0 software. RESULTS We included 17 articles with a total of 1122 patients. Compared with the control group, mind-body exercise significantly improved patient pain (standardized mean difference (SMD) = -0.65, 95% confidence interval (CI) [-0.87, -0.42], p < 0.00001), stiffness (SMD = -0.75, 95% CI [-1.05, -0.45], p < 0.00001), physical function (SMD = -0.82, 95% CI [-1.03, -0.62], p < 0.00001), mental health (SMD = 0.31, 95% CI [0.11, 0.51], p = 0.002), and depression (SMD = -0.32, 95% CI [-0.50, -0.15], p = 0.0003). In terms of motor ability, mind-body exercise significantly increased the 6-min walking distance (SMD = 18.45, 95% CI [5.80, 31.10], p = 0.004) and decreased timed up and go test time (SMD = -1.15, 95% CI [-1.71, -0.59], p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS The current study showed that mind-body exercise is safe and effective for KOA patients. However, given the methodological limitations of the included studies, additional high-quality evidence is needed to support the conclusions of this study.

Abstract
Microneedles are a transdermal drug delivery system in which the needle punctures the epithelium to deliver the drug directly to deep tissues, thus avoiding the influence of the first-pass effect of the gastrointestinal tract and minimizing the likelihood of pain induction. Hydrogel microneedles are microneedles prepared from hydrogels that have good biocompatibility, controllable mechanical properties, and controllable drug release and can be modified to achieve environmental control of drug release in vivo. The large epithelial tissue in the oral cavity is an ideal site for drug delivery via microneedles. Hydrogel microneedles can overcome mucosal hindrances to delivering drugs to deep tissues; this prevents humidity and a highly dynamic environment in the oral cavity from influencing the efficacy of the drugs and enables them to obtain better therapeutic effects. This article analyzes the materials and advantages of common hydrogel microneedles and reviews the application of hydrogel microneedles in the oral cavity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intense pulsed light (IPL) is used for the treatment and improvement of various skin issues. However, patients often experience local skin burning and pain after IPL treatment. Cooling and analgesic measures are indispensable. AIMS To investigate the clinical effect of thermal shock therapy on pain relief and reduction of adverse reactions during IPL therapy. PATIENTS/METHODS A total of 60 female patients with facial photoaging who received IPL therapy were enrolled in the study. As a comparative split-face study, one side of the face was randomly selected as the control side. The other side was given thermal shock therapy before and after the IPL treatment immediately as analgesic side. The visual analog scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain degree of the patients. The telephone follow-ups regarding the occurrence of adverse reactions were conducted respectively on the 2nd day, 7th day, and 1 month after treatment. RESULTS The VAS score and skin temperature of analgesia side was lower than that of control side at different stages of treatment. In terms of adverse reactions, the incidence of transient facial redness on the analgesic side was lower than that on the control side. Two patients showed slight secondary pigmentation on the control side, and the other patients showed no other adverse reactions on both sides. CONCLUSIONS Thermal shock therapy assisted IPL therapy can reduce skin temperature during treatment, effectively relieve patients' pain, reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions caused by heat injury, and improve patients' comfort level.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Evaluate the ability of strontium fluoride on bond strength and enamel integrity after incorporation within orthodontic adhesive system as a delivery vehicle. METHODS Experimental orthodontic adhesive system Transbond™ XT were modified with 1% Sr2+, 0.5% SrF2, 1% strontium, 0.5% Sr2+, 1% F-, 0.5% F-, and no additions were control. Mixing of formulation was monitored using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Small-molecule drug-discovery suite was used to gain insights into Sr2+, F-, and SrF2 binding. Shear bond testing was performed after 6-months of ageing. Enamel blocks were cut, and STEM pictures were recorded. Specimens were indented to evaluate elastic modulus. Raman microscope was used to collect Raman spectra and inspected using a scanning electron microscope. Crystal structural analysis was performed using X-ray diffraction. Effect of material on cellular proliferation was determined. Confocal was performed to evaluate the effect of formulation on biofilms. RESULTS FTIR of modified adhesives depicted peak changes within range due to various functional groups existing within samples. TEM represented structurally optimized hexagonal unit-cell of hydroxyapatite. Mean shear bond strength is recorded highest for Transbond XT with 1% SrF2. Dead bacterial percentage appeared higher in 0.5% SrF2 and 1% F- specimens. Crystal lengths showed an increase in 0.5% and 1% SrF2 specimens. Phase contrast within TEM images showed a union of 0.5% SrF2 crystal with enamel crystal with higher elastic modulus and highly mineralized crystalline hydroxyapatite. Intensity of ν1 PO43- and ν1 CO32- along with carbonate - / ν1PO43- ratio displayed good association with strontium fluoride. The formulation showed acceptable cell biocompatibility (p < 0.353). All specimens displayed characteristic diffraction maxima of different apatite angles within XRD. SIGNIFICANCE Experimental results suggested good biocompatibility, adequate mechanical strength, and far-ranging crystallization ability. This would provide a new strategy to overcome the two major challenges of fixed orthodontics, biofilm growth, and demineralization of enamel.

Abstract
Anterior ankle impingement syndrome (AAIS) has been reported to account for a high percentage of complications following ankle fracture surgery. The soft tissue etiology of AAIS is thought to be thickening and inflammation of the anterior ankle soft tissues intervening anteriorly at the tibiotalar joint, causing pain and functional limitation during dorsiflexion. However, the effects of anterior ankle soft tissue dynamics and stiffness on AAIS have yet to be clarified. This study aimed to determine the relationship between AAIS and the anterior ankle soft tissue thickness change ratio and shear modulus using ultrasonography (US). The participants were 20 patients with ankle joint fractures (AO classification A, B) who had undergone open reduction and internal fixation and 20 healthy adults. The evaluation periods were 3 months and 6 months postoperatively. US was used to delineate the tibialis anterior tendon, extensor hallucis longus tendon, and the extensor digitorum longus tendon over the talus and tibia on a long-axis image. Anterior ankle soft tissue thickness was measured as the shortest distance from the most convex part of the talus to the tendon directly above it. The Anterior ankle soft tissue thickness change ratio was determined by dividing the value at 0° dorsiflexion by the value at 10° plantarflexion. The same images as for the anterior soft tissue thickness measurement were drawn for the shear modulus measurement, and the average shear modulus (kPa) was calculated using shear-wave elastography. There was no significant difference in the thickness change ratio between the postoperative and healthy groups. Compared with the healthy group, the shear modulus was significantly higher at 3 and 6 months in the postoperative group (p < 0.01). The shear elastic modulus at 6-month postoperative group was significantly lower than at 3-month postoperative group (p < 0.01). Anterior ankle joint soft tissue stiffness may increase after surgery for an ankle fracture.

Abstract
Despite legislation to protect people with visual impairment (V.I.) from discrimination in the United Kingdom (UK), the latter continue to experience overt and covert negative behaviours. Perceived discrimination has been associated with an adverse impact on identity, health and well-being, while negative attitudes have been identified as the biggest barrier to participation in everyday life. This article provides a narrative review of existing evidence of how the UK public treats (behaviours), thinks (perceptions) and feels (attitudes) about people with V.I. Despite limitations, the findings suggest that there is a gap between the behaviours reported by people with V.I. and the attitudes expressed by members of the UK public. Social psychological theories are used to explore possible reasons for this gap, and ways in which it may be addressed. As such, the article provides an example of how social psychological theories can be used to address problems in an applied context.

Abstract
In a previously established animal model, 38 multiparous Holstein cows were assigned to 2 groups fed different diets to achieve either a normal (NBCS) or high (HBCS) body condition score (BCS) and backfat thickness (BFT) until dry-off at -49 d before calving (NBCS: BCS <3.5 [3.02 ± 0.24) and BFT <1.2 cm [0.92 ± 0.21]; HBCS: BCS >3.75 [3.82 ± 0.33] and BFT >1.4 cm [2.36 ± 0.35], mean ± SD). The groups were also stratified for comparable milk yields (NBCS: 10,361 ± 302 kg; HBCS: 10,315 ± 437 kg; mean ± SD). The cows were then fed the same diet during the dry period and subsequent lactation, maintaining the differences in BFT and BCS throughout the study. Using the serum metabolomics data, we created a classification model that identified different metabotypes. Machine learning classifiers revealed a distinct cluster labeled HBCS-PN (HBCS predicted normal BCS) among over-conditioned cows. These cows showed higher feed intake and better energy balance than the HBCS-PH (high BCS predicted high BCS) group, while milk yield was similar. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the hepatic transcriptome of cows differing in serum-metabotype postpartum. We performed hepatic transcriptome analysis in cows from 3 metabolic clusters: HBCS-PH (n = 8), HBCS-PN (n = 6), and normal BCS predicted normal BCS (NBCS-PN, n = 8) on d 21 (±2) postpartum. Liver tissue from cows expressed a total of 13,118 genes aligned with the bovine genome. A total of 48 differentially expressed genes (DEG; false discovery rate ≤0.1 and fold-change >1.5) were found between NBCS-PN and HBCS-PH cows, whereas 24 DEG (14 downregulated and 10 upregulated) were found between HBCS-PN and HBCS-PH cows. The downregulated DEG (n = 31) in NBCS-PN cows compared with HBCS-PH cows are involved in biosynthetic processes such as lipid, lipoprotein, and cholesterol synthesis (e.g., APOA1, MKX, RPL3L, CANT1, CHPF, FUT1, ZNF696), cell organization, biogenesis, and localization (e.g., SLC12A8, APOA1, BRME1, RPL3L, STAG3, FBXW5, TMEM120A, SLC16A5, FGF21), catabolic processes (e.g., BREH1, MIOX, APOBEC2, FBXW5, NUDT16), and response to external stimuli (e.g., APOA1, FGF21, TMEM120A, FNDC4), whereas upregulated DEG (n = 17) are related to signal transduction and cell motility (e.g., RASSF2, ASPN, SGK1, KIF7, ZEB2, MAOA, ACKR4, TCAF1), suggesting altered metabolic adaptations during lactation. Our results showed 24 DEG between HBCS-PN and HBCS-PH in the liver. The expression of SLC12A8, SLC16A5, FBXW5, OSGIN1, LAMA3, KDELR3, OR4X17, and INHBE, which are responsible for regulating cellular processes was downregulated in HBCS-PN cows compared with HBCS-PH cows. In particular, the downregulation of SLC12A8 and SLC16A5 expression in HBCS-PN cows indicates lower metabolic load and reduced need for NAD+ biosynthesis to support mitochondrial respiratory processes. The upregulation of MAOA, ACKR4, KIF27, SFRP1, and CAV2 in the liver of HBCS-PN cows may indicate adaptive mechanisms to maintain normal liver function in response to increased metabolic demands from over-conditioning. These molecular differences underscore the existence of distinct metabolic types in cows and provide evidence for the role of the liver in shaping different metabolic patterns.

Abstract
It has been known that periodontal ligament-associated protein-1 (PLAP-1/Asporin) not only inhibits cartilage formation in osteoarthritis, but it also influences the healing of skull defect. However, the effect and mechanism of PLAP-1/Asporin on the mutual regulation of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in periodontitis are not clear. In this study, we utilized a PLAP-1/Asporin gene knockout (KO) mouse model to research this unknown issue. We cultured mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells with Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide (P.g. LPS) for osteogenic induction in vitro. The molecular mechanism of PLAP-1/Asporin in the regulation of osteoblasts was detected by immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, and inhibitors of signaling pathways. The results showed that the KO of PLAP-1/Asporin promoted osteogenic differentiation through transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1)/Smad3 in inflammatory environments. We further found the KO of PLAP-1/Asporin inhibited osteoclast differentiation and promoted osteogenic differentiation through the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway in an inflammatory coculture system. The experimental periodontitis model was established by silk ligation and the alveolar bone formation in PLAP-1/Asporin KO mice was promoted through TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway. The subcutaneous osteogenesis model in nude mice also confirmed that the KO of PLAP-1/Asporin promoted bone formation by the histochemical staining. In conclusion, PLAP-1/Asporin regulated the differentiation of osteoclasts and osteoblasts through TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway. The results of this study lay a theoretical foundation for the further study of the pathological mechanism underlying alveolar bone resorption, and the prevention and treatment of periodontitis.

Abstract
Fishbone ingestion has been reported multiple times previously as a cause of oesophageal perforation. This is a surgical emergency that needs to be identified early to ensure immediate medical attention. This report presents the case of a 70-year-old patient with laryngeal perforation and the migration of a Chrysophrys auratus (Australasian snapper) fishbone to the C5 vertebral body. It is hypothesized that the fishbone migrated from the larynx to the visceral fascia and prevertebral fascia before lodging in between the intramuscular substance of the longus coli muscle. Multiple imaging modalities were used to identify and locate the foreign body, including flexible nasopharyngoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, and a computed tomography (CT) scan of the neck. The exploration of the neck was done by the ENT team and the orthopaedic spine team via the left anterior cervical approach at the level of the C5 and C6 vertebral bodies. The foreign body was identified (15 mm fishbone) at the left lateral of the C5 body, lodged between the intramuscular substance of the longus coli muscle, and was successfully removed.

Abstract
Due to the large cost of joint replacement for surgical treatment of knee osteoarthritis, there are many complications in elderly patients, and there are many contraindications to surgery, and conservative treatment is still based on drugs. To further evaluate the efficacy and safety of sodium hyaluronate combined with celecoxib for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. In total, 202 studies were screened, with a final selection of 9 RCTs involving 2339 participants; of these, 9 RCTs were included in the final meta-analysis. Treatment group reduces VAS (SMD = -1.61; 95 % CI [-2.25, -0.98]; I2 = 95 %; P < 0.00001) and adverse reactions (OR = 0.45; 95 % CI [0.22,0.94]; I2 = 0 %; P < 0.33); Meanwhile, improving Lysholm knee scores (SMD = 0.19; 95 % CI [-0.06, -0.44]; I2 = 76 %; P = 0.0004) and Clinical efficiency (OR = 0.31; 95 % CI [0.19,0.50]; I2 = 0 %; P < 0.00001). All indicators were superior to the control group. Our primary findings suggest that KOA treatment with celecoxib combined with sodium hyaluronate reduces VAS, while improving Lysholm scores and Clinical efficiency. In addition, we found that celecoxib combined with sodium hyaluronate treatment had fewer adverse effects than the control group, indicating that the combination is safe and effective in the treatment of KOA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine return to running criteria currently used by physiotherapists following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. DESIGN Self-reported online international survey. METHODS An online survey of physiotherapists across Australia, the Netherlands and France. RESULTS A total of 476 respondants participated in the survey across Australia (n = 153), the Netherlands (n = 162), and France (n = 161). For return to running criteria following a non-operative approach, the majority of respondents chose swelling (40.55%, n = 193/476), pain (38.24%, n = 182/476), knee extensor strength (34.34%, n = 163/476), single leg squat (31.93%, n = 152/476) and knee flexor strength (29.83%, n = 142/476). After ACL reconstruction, the highest responses were also swelling (41.18%, n = 196/476), pain (37.18%, n = 177/476), knee extensor strength (37.18%, n = 177/476) and single leg squat (33.19%, n = 158/476). From the identified themes the most common cutoff variables were pain between 0 and 3/10, swelling < grade 1+ and limb symmetry on strength and hop tests >70 %. CONCLUSION Physiotherapists in Australia, France, and the Netherlands use many different return to running criteria and most of them use more than one criterion. Despite this, there was little consensus on the cut-off physiotherapists use to apply these criteria.

Abstract
Background Biomarkers collected in synovial tissue and fluid have been identified as potential predictors of outcomes after arthroscopy. Purpose To provide a narrative review of the current literature that assesses the associations between preoperative biomarkers in the synovial fluid or synovial tissue and patient outcomes after knee arthroscopy. Study Design Narrative review. Methods We searched the PubMed database with keywords, "biomarkers AND arthroscopy," "biomarkers AND anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction," and "biomarkers AND meniscectomy." To be included, studies must have collected synovial fluid or synovial tissue from patients before or during arthroscopic knee surgery and analyzed the relationship of biomarkers to postoperative patient outcomes. Biomarkers were classified into 4 main categories: metabolism of aggrecan in cartilage, metabolism of collagen in cartilage (type II collagen), noncollagenous proteins in the knee, and other. When biomarker levels and outcomes were expressed with continuous variables, we abstracted the Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficients as the effect measure. If the biomarker values were continuous and the outcomes binary, we abstracted the mean or median biomarker values in those with favorable versus unfavorable outcomes. We calculated effect sizes as the difference between means of both groups divided by the standard deviation from the mean in the group with better outcomes. Results Eight studies were included in the review. Each study reported different patient outcomes. Biomarkers associated with metabolism of aggrecan, type II collagen metabolism, and noncollagenous proteins as well as inflammatory biomarkers had statistically significant associations with a range of patient outcomes after knee arthroscopy. Difference across studies in sample size and outcome measures precluded choosing a single biomarker that best predicted patient outcomes. Conclusion The findings suggest that biomarkers associated with metabolism of aggrecan, type II collagen metabolism, noncollagenous proteins, as well as inflammatory biomarkers may help surgeons and their patients anticipate surgical outcomes.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a prevalent, complex disease of the joints, and affects multiple intra-articular tissues. Here, we have examined genome-wide DNA methylation profiles of primary infrapatellar fat pad and matched blood samples from 70 osteoarthritis patients undergoing total knee replacement surgery. Comparing the DNA methylation profiles between these tissues reveal widespread epigenetic differences. We produce the first genome-wide methylation quantitative trait locus (mQTL) map of fat pad, and make the resource available to the wider community. Using two-sample Mendelian randomization and colocalization analyses, we resolve osteoarthritis GWAS signals and provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underpinning disease aetiopathology. Our findings provide the first view of the epigenetic landscape of infrapatellar fat pad primary tissue in osteoarthritis.

Abstract
Rotator cuff tear (RCT) is the most common cause of disability in the upper-extremity.1 It results in 4.5 million physician visits in the United States every year and is the most common etiology of shoulder conditions evaluated by orthopedic surgeons.2,3 Over 460,000 RCT repair surgeries are performed in the United States annually.4 Rotator cuff (RC) retear and failure to heal remain significant post-operative complications.5 Literature suggests that the retear rates can range from 29.5% to as high as 94%.6,7 Weakened and irregular enthesis regeneration is a crucial factor in post-surgical failure.8 Although commercially available RC repair grafts have been introduced to augment RC enthesis repair, they have been associated with mixed clinical outcomes.9,10 These grafts lack appropriate biological cues such as stem cells and signaling molecules at the bone-tendon interface. Additionally, they do little to prevent fibrovascular scar tissue formation, which causes the RC to be susceptible to retear. Advances in tissue engineering have demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and growth factors (GFs) enhance RC enthesis regeneration in animal models. These models show that delivering MSCs and GFs to the site of RC tear enhances native enthesis repair and leads to greater mechanical strength. Additionally, these models demonstrate that MSCs and GFs may be delivered through a variety of methods including direct injection, saturation of repair materials, and loaded microspheres. Grafts that incorporate MSCs and GFs enhance anti-inflammation, osteogenesis, angiogenesis, and chondrogenesis in the RC repair process. It is crucial that the techniques which have shown success in animal models are incorporated into the clinincal setting. A gap currently exists between the promising biological factors which have been investigated in animal models and the RC repair grafts that can be used in the clinical setting. Future RC repair grafts must allow for stable implantation and fixation, be compatible with current arthroscopic techniques, and have the capability to deliver MSCs and/or GF. Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study is to delineate cross-sectional associations between qualitative and quantitative measures of the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) and knee symptoms, structure, kinematics, and kinetics in older adults. METHODS Ninety eligible subjects (90 knees, mean age 54.0 years, 68.9% female) were examined at our center. We used T2-weighted fat-suppressed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate signal intensity alteration, maximum sagittal area, and depth of the IPFP. Symptomatic osteoarthritis (SOA) was a pain subscale score greater than 0 on the Western Ontario McMaster Osteoarthritis Index. A Kellgren-Lawrence grade ≥ 2 identified incident radiographic osteoarthritis (iROA). Three-dimensional gait data were employed to analyze knee joint kinematics and kinetics. Correlation and regression analyzes assessed associations between IPFP measurements and SOA, iROA, kinematics, and kinetics. RESULTS There were strong and positive associations between IPFP signal intensity alteration and both SOA and iROA in multivariable regression analyzes [OR (95% CI): 2.849 (1.440 to 5.636), 2.356 (1.236 to 4.492), respectively]. Conversely, a significant negative correlation was observed between IPFP maximum area and flexion angle [B (95%CI): - 1.557 (-2.549 to -0.564)]. Moreover, adjusting for covariates did not reveal any significant correlation between IPFP parameters and other indicators (P > 0.05, respectively). CONCLUSION IPFP signal intensity alteration and area were associated with knee clinical symptoms, structural abnormalities, and flexion angle in adults over 40, respectively. These findings suggest that IPFP may be a crucial imaging biomarker in early and middle knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis represents a chronic degenerative joint disease with exceptional clinical relevance. Polymorphisms of the CALCA gene, giving rise to either a procalcitonin/calcitonin (PCT/CT) or a calcitonin gene-related peptide alpha (αCGRP) transcript by alternative splicing, were reported to be associated with the development of osteoarthritis. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of both PCT/CT and αCGRP transcripts in a mouse model of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (ptOA). WT, αCGRP-/- and CALCA-/- mice were subjected to anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) to induce ptOA of the knee. Mice were sacrificed 4 and 8 weeks post-surgery, followed by micro-CT and histological evaluation. Here we show that the expression of both PCT/CT and αCGRP transcripts is induced in ptOA knees. CALCA-/- mice show increased cartilage degeneration and subchondral bone loss with elevated osteoclast numbers compared to αCGRP-/- and WT mice. Osteophyte formation is reduced to the same extent in CALCA-/- and αCGRP-/- mice compared to WT controls, while a reduced synovitis score is noticed exclusively in mice lacking CALCA. Our data show that expression of the PCT/CT transcript protects from the progression of ptOA, while αCGRP promotes osteophyte formation, suggesting that CALCA-encoded peptides may represent novel targets for the treatment of ptOA.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease in the US and can increase the risk of depression. Both depression and OA disproportionately affect women, yet this study is one of few on depression prevalence, treatment across age groups, and predictors in women with OA. Data were extracted from the 2011-March 2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Women aged ≥ 45 years with self-reported osteo- or degenerative arthritis were included. Outcomes were depression (assessed with PHQ-9) and treatment (self-reported pharmacotherapy and mental health services). Logistic regression was used to examine associations between age group, covariates, and outcomes. Overall, depression prevalence was 8%, with higher proportions among those 45-64 years old. Aging was associated with reduced odds of depression (Age 65-79: OR 0.68 (95% CI: 0.52-0.89); Age 80+: OR 0.49 (95% CI: 0.33-0.74); vs. Age 45-54). Of those with a positive depression screen, 21.6% documented some form of treatment. Age group was not statistically different between those treated and those not treated. Women aged 45-64 with osteoarthritis may be at increased risk of depression, and most are not treated. As depression is related to increased pain and risk of rehospitalization, future research should prioritize interventions to increase uptake of depression treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The American Heart Association (AHA), in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health, annually reports the most up-to-date statistics related to heart disease, stroke, and cardiovascular risk factors, including core health behaviors (smoking, physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and obesity) and health factors (cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose control, and metabolic syndrome) that contribute to cardiovascular health. The AHA Heart Disease and Stroke Statistical Update presents the latest data on a range of major clinical heart and circulatory disease conditions (including stroke, brain health, complications of pregnancy, kidney disease, congenital heart disease, rhythm disorders, sudden cardiac arrest, subclinical atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, valvular disease, venous thromboembolism, and peripheral artery disease) and the associated outcomes (including quality of care, procedures, and economic costs). METHODS The AHA, through its Epidemiology and Prevention Statistics Committee, continuously monitors and evaluates sources of data on heart disease and stroke in the United States and globally to provide the most current information available in the annual Statistical Update with review of published literature through the year before writing. The 2024 AHA Statistical Update is the product of a full year's worth of effort in 2023 by dedicated volunteer clinicians and scientists, committed government professionals, and AHA staff members. The AHA strives to further understand and help heal health problems inflicted by structural racism, a public health crisis that can significantly damage physical and mental health and perpetuate disparities in access to health care, education, income, housing, and several other factors vital to healthy lives. This year's edition includes additional global data, as well as data on the monitoring and benefits of cardiovascular health in the population, with an enhanced focus on health equity across several key domains. RESULTS Each of the chapters in the Statistical Update focuses on a different topic related to heart disease and stroke statistics. CONCLUSIONS The Statistical Update represents a critical resource for the lay public, policymakers, media professionals, clinicians, health care administrators, researchers, health advocates, and others seeking the best available data on these factors and conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the sex differences in the relationship of metabolic syndrome (MetS) criteria with arthritis and symptomatic arthritis among Mexican American older adults aged ≥ 65 without self-reported arthritis at baseline over 23-years of follow-up. METHODS Participants (N = 1447) were from the Hispanic Established Population for the Epidemiologic Study of the Elderly (1993/94-2016). Measures included MetS criteria, arthritis defined as self-reported physician-diagnosed arthritis, socio-demographics, morbidities, depressive symptoms, pain on weight-bearing, cognitive and physical function, handgrip strength, mobility, and activities of daily living (ADLs) limitations. Symptomatic arthritis was defined as self-reported arthritis and having ≥ 1 of the following: pain, mobility limitation, or limited ADLs. RESULTS At baseline, the mean age was 72.6 years and 730 (50.5%) of our participants were females. Female participants with 2 and 3 MetS criteria had greater odds of arthritis [odds ratio (OR) = 1.77, 95% Confidence Interval (Cl) = 1.28-2.45 and OR = 2.68, 95% CI = 1.69-4.27, respectively) and symptomatic arthritis (OR = 1.74, 95% Cl = 1.24-2.44 and OR = 3.27, 95% CI = 2.04-5.26, respectively) after controlling for covariates. Male participants with 2 and 3 MetS criteria had greater odds of arthritis (OR = 1.65, 95% Cl = 1.14-2.39 and OR = 2.52, 95% CI = 1.51-4.19, respectively) and symptomatic arthritis (OR = 1.93, 95% Cl = 1.30-2.86 and OR = 2.98, 95% CI = 1.62-5.47, respectively) after controlling for covariates. Both females and males with pain on weight-bearing had greater odds of arthritis than those without pain. CONCLUSIONS At 23-years of follow-up, Mexican American older adults with MetS have an increased risk of arthritis and symptomatic arthritis. Early MetS screening and management may reduce arthritis in this population at high risk of disability.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare clinical outcomes of the all-inside technique with the transtibial technique in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction based on available literature on this topic. METHODS According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist, we conducted a systematic search for randomized controlled trials and cohort studies. Our comprehensive search encompassed PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that compared the 2 techniques with a minimal 1-year follow-up. Two independent authors assessed RCTs using the risk of bias tool developed by the Cochrane Collaboration and evaluated the quality of cohort studies using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for Assessing the Quality of Nonrandomized Comparative Trials. The subjective and objective outcomes, complications, and graft failure were obtained. R software was used to perform the analysis. RESULTS The present analysis enrolled 9 RCTs (n = 687) and 11 cohort studies (n = 910). After a minimal 1-year follow-up in RCTs, functional outcomes such as International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective score, Lysholm score, Tegner activity scale, Knee Society Score, and hop test were found to be similar between 2 techniques. The laxity outcomes, including the IKDC objective grade and pivot-shift test, were suggested to be comparable. There was a significant difference favoring the transtibial technique in terms of side-to-side difference (P = .04; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.08-0.90). The pooled data from cohort studies indicated equivalent results in terms of IKDC subjective score, Lysholm score, side-to-side difference, IKDC objective grade, complications, and graft failure, with the exception of statistical difference in the Tegner activity scale (P = .03; 95% CI, -0.50 to -0.04). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that there is no difference in most outcome scores between the all-inside and transtibial techniques for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. There are statistically significant differences in side-to-side difference and Tegner activity scale favoring the all-inside technique. Abstract
The study aimed to assess the metabolomic profile of the synovial fluid (SF) of dogs affected by spontaneous osteoarthritis (OA) and compare any differences based on disease progression. Sixty client-owned dogs affected by spontaneous OA underwent clinical, radiographic, and cytologic evaluations to confirm the diagnosis. The affected joints were divided into four study groups based on the Kallgreen-Lawrence classification: OA1 (mild), OA2 (moderate), OA3 (severe), and OA4 (extremely severe/deforming). The osteoarthritic joint's SF was subjected to cytologic examination and 1H-NMR analysis. The metabolomic profiles of the study groups' SF samples were statistically compared using one-way ANOVA. Sixty osteoarthritic joints (45 stifles, 10 shoulders and 5 elbows) were included in the study. Fourteen, 28, and 18 joints were included in the OA1, OA2, and OA3 groups, respectively (0 joints in the OA4 group). Metabolomic analysis identified 48 metabolites, five of which were significantly different between study groups: Mannose and betaine were elevated in the OA1 group compared with the OA2 group, and the 2-hydroxyisobutyrate concentration decreased with OA progression; in contrast, isoleucine was less concentrated in mild vs. moderate OA, and lactate increased in severe OA. This study identified different 1H-NMR metabolomic profiles of canine SF in patients with progressive degrees of spontaneous OA, suggesting 1H-NMR metabolomic analysis as a potential alternative method for monitoring OA progression. In addition, the results suggest the therapeutic potentials of the metabolomic pathways that involve mannose, betaine, 2-hydroxyisobutyrate, isoleucine, and lactate.

Abstract
Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating degenerative joint disease, leading to significant pain and disability. Despite advancements, current regenerative therapies, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), face challenges in clinical efficacy and ethical considerations. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of stromal vascular fraction gel (SVF-gel) in comparison to available treatments like hyaluronic acid (HA) and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and to assess the enhancement of this potential by incorporating tropoelastin (TE). Methods: We conducted a comparative laboratory study, establishing an indirect co-culture system using a Transwell assay to test the effects of HA, ADSCs, SVF-gel, and TE-SVF-gel on osteoarthritic articular chondrocytes (OACs). Chondrogenic and hypertrophic markers were assessed after a 72-hour co-culture. SVF-gel was harvested from rat subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue, with its mechanical properties characterized. Cell viability was specifically analyzed for SVF-gel and TE-SVF-gel. The in vivo therapeutic effectiveness was further investigated in a rat model of OA, examining MSCs tracking, effects on cartilage matrix synthesis, osteophyte formation, and muscle weight changes. Results: Cell viability assays revealed that TE-SVF-gel maintained higher cell survival rates than SVF-gel. In comparison to the control, HA, and ADSCs groups, SVF-gel and TE-SVF-gel significantly upregulated the expression of chondrogenic markers COL 2, SOX-9, and ACAN and downregulated the hypertrophic marker COL 10 in OACs. The TE-SVF-gel showed further improved expression of chondrogenic markers and a greater decrease in COL 10 expression compared to SVF-gel alone. Notably, the TE-SVF-gel treated group in the in vivo OA model exhibited the most MSCs on the synovial surface, superior cartilage matrix synthesis, increased COL 2 expression, and better muscle weight recovery, despite the presence of fewer stem cells than other treatments. Discussion: The findings suggest that SVF-gel, particularly when combined with TE, provides a more effective regenerative treatment for OA by enhancing the therapeutic potential of MSCs. This combination could represent an innovative strategy that overcomes limitations of current therapies, offering a new avenue for patient treatment. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term benefits and potential clinical applications of this combined approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This research investigates the relationship between niacin intake and knee osteoarthritis (OA) severity, focusing on pain and functional ability due to niacin's role as a NAD(P)+ precursor, promoting cellular energy, and offering anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant effects. METHODS The population-based Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) cohort with radiographically confirmed knee OA was analyzed through a Food Frequency Questionnaire determining niacin intake and scores from the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), using generalized additive mixed models. RESULTS A significant correlation was pinpointed in 2375 OA patients (1001 men and 1374 women; 55.96% aged between 45 and 65 and 44.04% aged ≥65) between niacin intake and reduced knee pain and functional degrees after a 48-month follow-up, evident in improved KOOS and WOMAC scores (P < 0.05). The fully adjusted models estimated a decrease of 0.26 points for every additional 1 unit of Ln-niacin intake of daily niacin intake on the WOMAC pain subscale, 0.83 points on the WOMAC function subscale, and an increase of 1.71 and 1.58 on the KOOS pain and quality of life score. Strikingly, subgroups including middle-aged individuals, women, white race, obese individuals, and those with specific dietary habits showed a more substantial improvement with increased niacin. CONCLUSION The association between increased niacin intake and reduced pain and function scores, as well improved quality of life in knee OA patients, is significant. Certain cohorts, according to a stratified analysis, could see more considerable benefits with increased niacin consumption. HIGHLIGHTS • Increased niacin intake is linked to reduced knee pain and better function in OA patients. • Specific subgroups, such as middle-aged individuals, women, and those with certain dietary habits, benefit more from increased niacin consumption. • Niacin shows promise for enhancing the quality of life in knee OA patients by reducing pain and improving function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Apatite minerals can have various anions and cations in their crystal structure in addition to phosphate ion (PO₄³⁻) and calcium ion (Ca2+). The aim of this study is to investigate effects of the borate, fluoride and strontium ions on biomimetic nucleation of calcium phosphate. METHODS Nano-crystalline hydroxyapatite (H-Ap) was obtained from a supersaturated buffered solution containing 4.12 mM HPO42- and 5.88 mM Ca2+ (H-Ap). Four additives were used in solid solution methods: (i) 0.588 mM F- (F-Ap), (ii) 5.88 mM Sr2+ (Sr-Ap), (iii) 4.12 mM BO33- (BO3-Ap), and (iv) a surface pre-reacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) filler eluate that contained 0.17 mM Sr2+, 0.588 mM F-, 11.1 mM BO33-- (SPRG-Ap). Apatite crystallization was investigated using a solid-state magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) with the Rietveld analysis. RESULTS A 2D 1H-31P heteronuclear-correlation NMR showed F- ion incorporation in the apatite structure of the F-Ap and SPRG-Ap. The peaks on the 31P axis of the F-Ap, Sr-Ap, and BO3-Ap were different from that of the H-Ap, and the full width at half maximum increased in the following order: H-Ap∼F-Ap∼BO3-Ap< SPRG-Ap< Sr-Ap, suggesting the incorporation of the F-, Sr2+ and BO33-. The incorporation of F and BO3 was further confirmed by 19F and 11B NMR. The XRD revealed that Sr2+ was preferentially incorporated into the CaII site. SIGNIFICANCE The F-, Sr2+ and BO33-ions might be involved in modifying the crystallization of apatite precipitation, producing a variety of apatite. S-PRG filler that release these ions may have an effect on remineralization, i.e., the reformation of apatite lost due to caries.
