Abstract
A highly efficient and step-economical synthesis of zincophorin methyl ester has been achieved. The unprecedented step economy of this zincophorin synthesis is principally due to an application of the tandem silylformylation-crotylsilylation/Tamao oxidation-diastereoselective tautomerization reaction, which achieves in a single step what would typically require a significant multistep sequence.

Abstract
Single-step constructions of molecules with multiple quaternary carbon stereocentres are rare. The spirooxindole structural motif is common to a range of bioactive compounds; however, asymmetric synthesis of this motif is complicated due to the presence of multiple chiral centres. The development of organocatalytic cascade reactions has proven to be valuable for the construction of several chiral centres in one step. Here, we describe a newly designed organocatalytic asymmetric domino Michael-aldol reaction between 3-substituted oxindoles and methyleneindolinones that affords complex bispirooxindoles. This reaction was catalysed by a novel multifunctional organocatalyst that contains tertiary and primary amines and thiourea moieties to activate substrates simultaneously, providing extraordinary levels of stereocontrol over four stereocentres, three of which are quaternary carbon stereocentres. This new methodology provides facile access to a range of multisubstituted bispirocyclooxindole derivatives, and should be useful in medicinal chemistry and diversity-oriented syntheses of this intriguing class of compounds.

Abstract
Full details are provided for an improved synthesis of cortistatin A and related structures as well as the underlying logic and evolution of strategy. The highly functionalized cortistatin A-ring embedded with a key heteroadamantane was synthesized by a simple and scalable five-step sequence. A chemoselective, tandem geminal dihalogenation of an unactivated methyl group, a reductive fragmentation/trapping/elimination of a bromocyclopropane, and a facile chemoselective etherification reaction afforded the cortistatin A core, dubbed "cortistatinone". A selective Δ(16)-alkene reduction with Raney Ni provided cortistatin A. With this scalable and practical route, copious quantities of cortistatinone, Δ(16)-cortistatin A (the equipotent direct precursor to cortistatin A), and its related analogues were prepared for further biological studies.

Abstract
C-H oxidation has a long history and an ongoing presence in research at the forefront of chemistry and interrelated fields. As such, numerous highly useful articles and reviews have been written on this subject. Logically, these are generally written from the perspective of the scope and limitations of the reagents employed. This Minireview instead attempts to emphasize chemoselectivity imposed by the nature of the substrate. Consequently, many landmark discoveries in the field of C-H oxidation are not discussed, but hopefully the perspective taken herein will allow C-H oxidation reactions to be more readily incorporated into synthetic planning.

Abstract
The termination of epoxide-initiated cascade cyclizations with a range of "protected" phenols is described. When the protecting group can be lost as a stabilized electrophile, the cascade process continues beyond ring closure to afford products which have undergone a tandem electrophilic aromatic substitution. A number of groups have proven viable in this process and the regiochemistry of their substitution reactions has been studied. Application of this methodology in the first total synthesis of (+)-schweinfurthin A, a potent antiproliferative agent, has been achieved.

Abstract
We propose herein an alternative biosynthetic pathway for palau'amine in order to resolve the stereochemical issue from the original Kinnel-Scheuer hypothesis. Furthermore, we use this revised hypothesis as a guide toward the laboratory synthesis of palau'amine.
