A class of readily available and easily tunable benzene backbone-based olefin-sulfoxide ligands was developed for the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition reaction of arylboronic acids to enones with up to 97% yield and 97% ee.

Chiral N-tert-butanesulfinyl α,β-unsaturated ketimine: a simple and highly effective olefin/sulfinimide hybrid ligand for asymmetric 1,4-additions

One novel type of chiral olefin/sulfinimide hybrid ligands has been developed through a simple one-step condensation of α,β-unsaturated ketones with tert-butanesulfinamide and utilized successfully for rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric conjugated additions to furnish the desired adducts in high yields with excellent ee's.

Design of chiral sulfoxide-olefins as a new class of sulfur-based olefin ligands for asymmetric catalysis

The design and development of a novel class of chiral sulfur-olefin hybrid ligands with high synthetic feasibility are described. These new sulfoxide-olefin ligands showed excellent catalytic activities and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee) in rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-addition reactions of aryl boronic acids to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.

Design of N-sulfinyl homoallylic amines as novel sulfinamide-olefin hybrid ligands for asymmetric catalysis: application in Rh-catalyzed enantioselective 1,4-additions

Here we show that simple and readily available chiral sulfinamide-olefins can display great catalytic activities and enantioselectivities in rhodium-catalyzed 1,4-addition reactions. This study represent the first example of chiral sulfur-based olefin ligand class for transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric transformation.

Sulfoxide-alkene hybrids: a new class of chiral ligands for the Hayashi-Miyaura reaction

Sulfoxide-alkene hybrids are introduced as a new class of chiral heterodentate ligands for the Hayashi-Miyaura reaction. The synthesis of these ligands was achieved without the use of protecting groups. A chiral resolution was performed via simple column-chromatographic separation of the diastereomeric ligands. Both diastereomers proved to be excellent ligands in Rh-catalyzed 1,4-addition reactions, furnishing chiral products with high enantioselectivities and, remarkably, opposite stereoconfigurations.

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition of arylboronic acids to five-, six-, and seven-membered β-substituted cyclic enones: enantioselective construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters

The first enantioselective Pd-catalyzed construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters via 1,4-addition of arylboronic acids to β-substituted cyclic enones is reported. Reaction of a wide range of arylboronic acids and cyclic enones using a catalyst prepared from Pd(OCOCF(3))(2) and a chiral pyridinooxazoline ligand yields enantioenriched products bearing benzylic stereocenters. Notably, this transformation is tolerant to air and moisture, providing a practical and operationally simple method of synthesizing enantioenriched all-carbon quaternary stereocenters.

Sequential aldol condensation-transition metal-catalyzed addition reactions of aldehydes, methyl ketones, and arylboronic acids

Sequential aldol condensation of aldehydes with methyl ketones followed by transition metal-catalyzed addition reactions of arylboronic acids to form β-substituted ketones is described. By using the 1,1'-spirobiindane-7,7'-diol (SPINOL)-based phosphite, an asymmetric version of this type of sequential reaction, with up to 92% ee, was also realized. Our study provided an efficient method to access β-substituted ketones and might lead to the development of other sequential/tandem reactions with transition metal-catalyzed addition reactions as the key step.

α,β-Divinyl tetrahydropyrroles as chiral chain diene ligands in rhodium(I)-catalyzed enantioselective conjugated additions

A series of α,β-divinyl tetrahydropyrroles, synthesized by asymmetric allylic C-H bond activation/conjugated diene addition reaction of ene-2-dienes, were found to be very efficient chiral chain diene ligands in the rhodium-catalyzed conjugated addition of organoboronic acids to various α,β-unsaturated compounds, achieving the desired chiral adducts with good to excellent yields and ee values.

Metal-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition reaction: formation of quaternary stereocenters

All-carbon quaternary stereocenters are ubiquitous motifs in biological products and pharmaceutical agents. However, due to sterical reasons, these centers are not always easily accessible. The metal-catalyzed conjugate addition reaction to trisubstituted conjugated substrates presents a viable methodology to create quaternary centers. In this article, different ways of activating the conjugate system towards nucleophilic addition will be described. An overview will be given on the different types of quaternary centers that are accessible through the conjugate addition reaction.
