Abstract
A number of soluble platinum(II) and gold(I) complexes have been designed and
synthesized. Their luminescence and photophysical behavior have been studied.
Their assembly properties, which were governed by the noncovalent metal–metal
interactions, have also been investigated with the introduction of various
external stimuli. The UV–vis and emission spectral changes of these complexes,
which arose from the modulation of their assembly and disassembly behavior, have
demonstrated the establishment of a convenient and sensitive detection strategy
for various types of analytes. These studies suggested the potential
applications of these metal complexes as detection probes for a diverse range of
target substrates.

Abstract
A series of hyper-branched cationic conjugated polyelectrolytes containing different contents of phosphorescent Ir(III) complex has been designed and synthesized successfully. Their photophysical properties in both aqueous solution and solid film are investigated and their morphologies in aqueous solution are observed by TEM. Nanoparticles with the size of 80-100 nm have been formed in aqueous solution through the self-assembly of polymers. An energy transfer process from host polyfluorene to guest Ir(III) complex exists and becomes more efficient in the solid films. Importantly, this series of hyper-branched polymers can be applied as light-up heparin probes with good selectivity, high sensitivity, and naked-eye detection through electrostatic interaction between polymers and heparin. Quantification for heparin in aqueous solution can be realized in the range of 0-44 μM in the buffer solution. Detection limit can reach as low as 50 nM. More meaningfully, time-resolved photoluminescence technique is utilized successfully in the heparin sensing to eliminate the background fluorescence interference effectively and enhance the sensing sensitivity in the complicated media.

Abstract
Viable mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were efficiently and selectively harvested by near-infrared (NIR) light using the photothermal effect of a conductive polymer nano thin film. The poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene) (PEDOT)-coated cell culture surfaces were prepared via a simple and fast solution-casting polymerization (SCP) technique. The absorption of PEDOT thin films in the NIR region was effectively triggered cell harvesting upon exposure to an NIR source. By controlling the NIR absorption of the PEDOT film through electrochemical doping or growing PEDOT with different thin film thickness from 70 to 300 nm, the proliferation and harvesting of MSCs on the PEDOT surface were controlled quantitatively. This light-induced cell detachment method based on PEDOT films provides the temporal and spatial control of cell harvesting, as well as cell patterning. The harvested stem cells were found to be alive and well proliferated despite the use of temperature increase by NIR. More importantly, the harvested MSCs by this method preserved their intrinsic characteristics as well as multilineage differentiation capacities. This PEDOT surfaces could be used for repetitive culture and detachment of MSCs or for efficient selection or depletion of a specific subset from heterogeneous population during culture of various tissue-derived cells because there were no photodegradation and photobreakage in the PEDOT films by NIR exposure.

Abstract
A new route to luminescent derivatives of androgenic steroids containing a ketone group in the 3- or 17-position has been developed. Reaction with the fac-Re(CO)(3)Cl complex of 3,3'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine (complex 1) afforded a cyclic aminal product with different steroids. The rate of reaction and yield varies according to the conjugation or steric hindrance around the ketone group.
