Abstract
Although living polymerization methods are widely applicable to organic monomers, their application to inorganic monomers is rare. For the first time, we show that the living poly(methylenephosphine) (PMPn - ) anion can function as a macroinitiator for olefins. Specifically, the phosphaalkene, MesP=CPh2 (PA), and methyl methacrylate (MMA) can be sequentially copolymerized using the BnLi-TMEDA initiator system in toluene. A series of PMPn -b-PMMAm copolymers with narrow dispersities are accessible (Đ=1.05-1.10). Analysis of the block copolymers provided evidence for -P-CPh2 -CH2 -CMe(CO2 Me)- switching groups. Importantly, this indicates that the -P-CPh2 - anion directly initiates the anionic polymerization of MMA and stands in stark contrast to the isomerization mechanism followed for the homopolymerization of PA. For the first time, the glass transition of a PMPn homopolymer has been measured (Tg =45.1 °C, n=20). The PMPn -b-PMMAm copolymers do not phase separate and show a single Tg which increases with higher PMMA content.

Abstract
To develop a simple and efficient synthetic method for four-coordinate triarylboranes, we herein describe a tandem highly selective B-Cl/C-B cross-metathesis of two of the same or different arylboranes and C-H bond borylation to synthesize four-coordinate triarylboranes with a broad substrate scope. By switching substituent groups of the target molecules, different emission wavelengths can be achieved from 467 nm to 583 nm with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties.

Abstract
Recent developments in synthetic pathways as simple reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) techniques and quantitative post-polymerization reactions, most notoriously 'click' reactions, leading to segmented copolymers, have broadened the molecular architectures accessible to polymer chemists as a matter of routine. Segments can be blocks, grafted chains, branchings, telechelic end-groups, covalently attached nanoparticles, nanodomains in networks, even sequences of random copolymers, and so on. In this review, we describe the variety of the segmented synthetic copolymers landscape from the point of view of their chemical affinity, or synonymous philicity, in bulk or with their surroundings, such as solvents, permeant gases, and solid surfaces. We focus on recent contributions, current trends, and perspectives regarding polyphilic copolymers, which have, in addition to hydrophilic and lipophilic segments, other philicities, for example, towards solvents, fluorophilic entities, ions, silicones, metals, nanoparticles, and liquid crystalline moieties.

Abstract
A new B-N functionalized polyaromatic building block for conjugated hybrid polymers is developed. Bromine-functionalized dipyridylfluorene is first subjected to Lewis-base-directed electrophilic borylation and subsequently incorporated into conjugated polymers via transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The borane monomer exhibits bright blue luminescence in solution, as a result of the rigid ladder-type structure generated upon electrophilic borylation. Yamamoto coupling gives rise to a homopolymer and Stille coupling to a vinylene-bridged copolymer. Polymerization of the BN-fused ladder molecules leads to large bathochromic shifts in absorption and emission, which are most pronounced for the vinylene-bridged copolymer. The polymers display strong luminescence in solution with quantum yields of 55% and 78% and sub-ns fluorescence lifetimes; the copolymer also exhibits bright yellow luminescence in the solid state when precipitated from solution.

Abstract
The application of our newly developed B-C coupling method by catalytic Si/B exchange is demonstrated for the synthesis of a series of triarylboranes (1), monodisperse thienyl- and furylborane dimers (2) and trimers (9), extended oligomers (3) and polymers (3'), as well as mixed (oligo)thienyl-/furylboranes. The structures of 1 aaTip , 1 bbTip , and 2 bbbMes* , determined by X-ray crystallography, reveal largely coplanar hetarene rings and BR3 environments, which are most pronounced in the furylborane species. Photophysical investigations, supported by TD-DFT calculations, revealed pronounced π-electron delocalization over the hetarene backbones including the boron centers. With an extended series of derivatives of varying chain lengths available, we were able to determine the effective conjugation lengths (ECL) of poly(thienylborane)s and poly(furylborane)s, which have been reached with the highest-molecular-weight derivatives of our study. Through variation of the furan-to-thiophene ratio, the photophysical properties of these materials are effectively modulated. Significantly, higher furan contents lead to considerably increased fluorescence intensities. Compounds 1 aaTip , 1 bbTip , and 3 aTip showed the ability to bind fluoride anions. The binding process is signaled by a distinct change in their optical absorption characteristics, thus rendering these materials attractive targets for sensory applications.

Abstract
Precatalysts active for the dehydropolymerisation of primary amine-boranes are generally based on mid or late transition metal. We have found that the activity of the precatalyst system formed from CpR2TiCl2 and 2nBuLi towards the dehydrogenation of the secondary amine-borane Me2NH·BH3, to yield the cyclic diborazane [Me2N-BH2]2, increases dramatically with increasing electron-donating character of the cyclopentadienyl rings (CpR). Application of the most active precatalyst system (CpR = η-C5Me5) to the primary amine-borane MeNH2·BH3 enabled the first synthesis of high molar mass poly(N-methylaminoborane), [MeNH-BH2] n , the BN analogue of polypropylene, by an early transition metal such as catalyst. Significantly, unlike other dehydropolymerization precatalysts for MeNH2·BH3 such as [Ir(POCOP)H2], skeletal nickel, and [Rh(COD)Cl]2, the Ti precatalyst system was also active towards a range of substrates including BzNH2·BH3 (Bz = benzyl) yielding high molar mass polymer. Moreover, in contrast to the late transition metal catalysed dehydropolymerisation of MeNH2·BH3 and also the Ziegler-Natta polymerisation of olefins, studies indicate that the Ti-catalyzed dehydropolymerization reactions proceed by a step-growth rather than a chain-growth mechanism.

Abstract
A series of aryl disilenes Tip2Si[double bond, length as m-dash]Si(Tip)Ar (2a-c) and para-arylene bridged tetrasiladienes, Tip2Si[double bond, length as m-dash]Si(Tip)-LU-Si(Tip)[double bond, length as m-dash]SiTip2 (3a-d) are synthesized by the transfer of the Tip2Si[double bond, length as m-dash]SiTip unit to aryl halides and dihalides by nucleophilic disilenides Tip2Si[double bond, length as m-dash]SiTipLi (Tip = 2,4,6-iPr3C6H2, Ar = aryl substituent, LU = para-arylene linking unit). The scope of the nucleophilic Si[double bond, length as m-dash]Si transfer reaction is demonstrated to also include substrates of considerable steric bulk such as mesityl or duryl halides Ar-X (Ar = Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2; Ar = Dur = 2,3,5,6-Me4C6H, X = Br or I). Bridged tetrasiladienes Tip2Si[double bond, length as m-dash]Si(Tip)-LU-Si(Tip)[double bond, length as m-dash]SiTip2 with more extended linking units surprisingly exhibit fluorescence at room temperature, albeit weak. DFT calculations suggest that partial charge transfer character of the excited state is a possible explanation.

Abstract
We report on depolymerization reactions of poly(phosphinoboranes). The cleavage of the polymers [H2 PBH2 ]n (2 a), [tBuHPBH2 ]n (2 c), [PhHPBH2 ]n (2 e) and the oligomer [Ph2 PBH2 ]n (2 b), with strong Lewis bases (LBs), in particular with NHCs, leads to the corresponding monomeric phosphanylboranes R1 R2 PBH2 LB. It is observed that the depolymerization depends on the strength and stability of the LBs as well as on the substitution pattern of the poly(phosphinoboranes). The solid state structures of the monomeric phosphinoboranes H2 PBH2 NHCMe (NHC=N-heterocyclic carbene) (4 a), H2 PBH2 NHCdipp (5 a) and tBuHPBH2 NHCMe (4 c) were determined. DFT calculations support the experimentally observed reaction behavior.

Abstract
Catalytic dehydrocoupling methodologies, whereby dihydrogen is released from a substrate (or intermolecularly from two substrates) is a mild and efficient method to construct main group element-main group element bonds, the products of which can be used in advanced materials, and also for the development of hydrogen storage materials. With growing interest in the potential of compounds such as ammonia-borane to act as hydrogen storage materials which contain a high weight% of H2, along with the current heightened interest in base metal catalyzed processes, this review covers recent developments in amine and phosphine dehydrocoupling catalyzed by iron complexes. The complexes employed, products formed and mechanistic proposals will be discussed.

Abstract
Non-metal-catalyzed heterodehydrocoupling of primary and secondary phosphines (R1R2PH, R2 = H or R1) with hydrosilanes (R3R4R5SiH, R4, R5 = H or R3) to produce synthetically useful silylphosphines (R1R2P-SiR3R4R5) has been achieved using B(C6F5)3 as the catalyst (10 mol %, 100 °C). Kinetic studies demonstrated that the reaction is first-order in hydrosilane and B(C6F5)3 but zero-order in phosphine. Control experiments, DFT calculations, and DOSY NMR studies suggest that a R1R2HP·B(C6F5)3 adduct is initially formed and undergoes partial dissociation to form an "encounter complex". The latter mediates frustrated Lewis pair type Si-H bond activation of the silane substrates. We also found that B(C6F5)3 catalyzes the homodehydrocoupling of primary phosphines to form cyclic phosphine rings and the first example of a non-metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation of P-P bonds to produce silylphosphines (R1R2P-SiR3R4R5). Moreover, the introduction of PhCN to the reactions involving secondary phosphines with hydrosilanes allowed the heterodehydrocoupling reaction to proceed efficiently under much milder conditions (1.0 mol % B(C6F5)3 at 25 °C). Mechanistic studies, as well as DFT calculations, revealed that PhCN plays a key mechanistic role in facilitating the dehydrocoupling reactions rather than simply functioning as H2-acceptor.

Abstract
The synthesis of lead sulfide nanocrystals within a solution processable sulfur 'inverse vulcanization' polymer thin film matrix was achieved from the in situ thermal decomposition of lead(II) n-octylxanthate, [Pb(S2COOct)2]. The growth of nanocrystals within polymer thin films from single-source precursors offers a faster route to networks of nanocrystals within polymers when compared with ex situ routes. The 'inverse vulcanization' sulfur polymer described herein contains a hybrid linker system which demonstrates high solubility in organic solvents, allowing solution processing of the sulfur-based polymer, ideal for the formation of thin films. The process of nanocrystal synthesis within sulfur films was optimized by observing nanocrystal formation by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Examination of the film morphology by scanning electron microscopy showed that beyond a certain precursor concentration the nanocrystals formed were not only within the film but also on the surface suggesting a loading limit within the polymer. We envisage this material could be used as the basis of a new generation of materials where solution processed sulfur polymers act as an alternative to traditional polymers.

Abstract
Conjugated organoboranes have emerged as attractive hybrid materials for optoelectronic applications. Herein, a highly efficient, environmentally benign catalytic B-C bond formation method is presented that uses organosilicon compounds, dibromoboranes, and the metal-free organocatalyst Me3SiNTf2. This Si/B exchange approach has been successfully applied to the synthesis of arylborane molecules 4a-c, oligomers 8a,b, and polymers 8a',b'. Photophysical investigations, supported by TD-DFT calculations, reveal highly effective π-conjugation in thienyl- and furylborane species; the latter are also highly emissive.

Abstract
Oligomeric phosphaalkenes are readily characterized using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The high affinity of phosphines for silver ions permits the detection of the unadulterated polymer as [M + xAg]x+ions (x = 2–3). When the oligomers are oxidized using H2O2, the resulting phosphine oxide polymer may be treated with sodium ions to produce [M + xNa]x+ions (x = 2–3). Both methods predict a similar distribution of oligomers: Mnvalues of 3450 ± 100 Da and a PDI of 1.09 ± 0.01 cover both analyses. This distribution represents oligomers of the general formula Me(PMesCPh2)nH from n = 4–20, maximizing at ∼n = 10.
