Abstract
This article describes the development of a Pd-catalyzed reaction for the arylhalogenation (halogen = Cl or Br) of diverse alpha-olefins by oxidatively intercepting Mizoroki-Heck intermediates. These transformations afford synthetically useful 1,2- and 1,1-arylhalogenated products in good yields with good to excellent selectivities that can be modulated by changing the nature of the halogenating reagent and/or the reaction conditions. The selectivity of these reactions can be rationally tuned by (i) controlling the relative rates of oxidative functionalization versus beta-hydride elimination from equilibrating Pd(II)-alkyl species and (ii) stabilization of organometallic Pd(II) intermediates through the formation of pi-benzyl adducts. These arylhalogenations exhibit modest to excellent levels of stereoselectivity, and the key carbon-halogen bond-forming step proceeds with predominant retention of stereochemistry at carbon.

Abstract
2-Pyridin-2-yl-1H-benzoimidazole L3 is presented as a new, efficient, and versatile bidentate N-donor ligand suitable for the copper-catalyzed formation of vinyl C-N and C-O bonds. This inexpensive and easily prepared ligand facilitates copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of alkenyl bromides and iodides with N-heterocycles and phenols to afford the desired cross-coupled products in good to excellent yields with full retention of stereochemistry. This method is particularly noteworthy given its efficiency, that is, mild reaction conditions, low catalyst loading, simplicity, versatility, and exceptional level of functional group tolerance.

Abstract
With the catalysis of CuI/trans-N,N'-dimethylcyclohexane-1,2-diamine, a number of carboxylic acids underwent efficient intramolecular O-vinylation with vinyl bromides leading to the synthesis of the corresponding five- and six-membered enol lactones. The same catalytic system also led to the efficient cycloisomerization of alkynoic acids.

Abstract
With the catalysis of CuI/N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine, intramolecular C-N coupling between sulfonamides and vinyl halides was successfully implemented, leading to the efficient synthesis of 5-, 6-, 7-, and even 8-membered heterocyclic enamines in both exo and endo modes. The bicyclic enamines thus formed provided a convenient entry to the corresponding 9- to 12-membered lactams by oxidative C=C bond cleavage.

Abstract
A general and highly efficient synthesis of 4-alkylidene-2-azetidinones was achieved by the Cu(I)-catalyzed intramolecular C-N coupling of amides with vinyl bromides. This 4-exo ring closure was found to be fundamentally preferred over other modes (5-exo, 6-exo, and 6-endo) of cyclization under copper catalysis. Tandem C-N bond formation was then successfully developed to allow the convenient generation of medium-sized lactams.

Abstract
The copper(II) carboxylate-promoted intramolecular carboamination reactions of variously substituted gamma-alkenyl amides have been investigated. These oxidative cyclization reactions efficiently provide polycyclic lactams, useful intermediates in nitrogen heterocycle synthesis, in good to excellent yields. The efficiency of the carboamination process is dependent upon the structure of the amide backbone as well as the nitrogen substituent.

Abstract
The copper(II) carboxylate promoted diamination reaction has been improved by the use of the organic soluble copper(II) neodecanoate [Cu(ND)2]. Cu(ND)2 allowed the less-polar solvent dichloroethane (DCE) to be used, and as a consequence, decomposition of less-reactive substrates could be avoided. High diastereoselectivity was observed in the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted pyrrolidines. Ureas, bis(anilines), and alpha-amido pyrroles derived from 2-allylaniline could also participate in the diamination reaction.

Abstract
An expanded substrate scope and in-depth analysis of the reaction mechanism of the copper(II) carboxylate-promoted intramolecular carboamination of unactivated alkenes is described. This method provides access to N-functionalized pyrrolidines and piperidines. Both aromatic and aliphatic gamma- and delta-alkenyl N-arylsulfonamides undergo the oxidative cyclization reaction efficiently. N-Benzoyl-2-allylaniline also underwent the oxidative cyclization. The terminal olefin substrates examined were more reactive than those with internal olefins, and the latter terminated in elimination rather than carbon-carbon bond formation. The efficiency of the reaction was enhanced by the use of more organic soluble copper(II) carboxylate salts, copper(II) neodecanoate in particular. The reaction times were reduced by the use of microwave heating. High levels of diastereoselectivity were observed in the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted pyrrolidines, wherein the cis substitution pattern predominates. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed in the context of the observed reactivity and in comparison to analogous reactions promoted by other reagents and conditions. Our evidence supports a mechanism wherein the N-C bond is formed via intramolecular syn aminocupration and the C-C bond is formed via intramolecular addition of a primary carbon radical to an aromatic ring.

Abstract
The development of Pd-catalyzed carboetherification and carboamination reactions between aryl/alkenyl halides and alkenes bearing pendant heteroatoms is described. These transformations effect the stereoselective construction of useful heterocycles such as tetrahydrofurans, pyrrolidines, imidazolidin-2-ones, isoxazolidines, and piperazines. The scope, limitations, and applications of these reactions are presented, and current stereochemical models are described. The mechanism of product formation, which involves an unusual intramolecular syn-insertion of an alkene into a Pd-Heteroatom bond is also discussed in detail.
