Abstract
The κ2-(P,N)-phosphine ligand precursor NH(CH2CH2PCy2)2 can be used for the synthesis of the rhodium(I) complex [Rh(CO){ĸ3-(P,N,P)-Cy2PC2H4NHC2H4PCy2}][Cl] (1). The deprotonated complex [Rh(CO){ĸ3-(P,N,P)-Cy2PC2H4NC2H4PCy2}] (2) shows a cooperative reactivity of the PNP ligand in the activation reaction of SO2F2 to yield the rhodium fluorido complex trans-[Rh(F)(CO){ĸ2-(P,P)-Cy2PC2H4N(SO2F)C2H4PCy2}]2 (3) by S-F bond cleavage. It is remarkable that no reaction was observed when 3 was treated with hydrogen sources e. g. dihydrogen, organosilicon compounds such as triethylsilane or TMS-CF3 and different fluorine sources such as SF4 or Selectfluor®. However, the treatment of complex 3 with XeF2 in the presence of CsF resulted in the formation of the unique fluorido rhodium(III) complex cis,trans-[Rh(F)3(CO){ĸ2-(P,P)-Cy2PC2H4N(SO2F)C2H4PCy2}]2 (4). In the presence of pyridine(HF)X or BF3 the fluorido complex 3 converted into the dicationic complexes [Rh(CO){ĸ2-(P,P)-Cy2PC2H4N(SO2F)C2H4PCy2}]2[XF]2, X=HF (5) or BF3 (6), respectively.

Abstract
We present an in-depth study of the sterically demanding Cp-synthon (8-H-GuaH)Li isolated from natural product guaiazulene (Gua) as a ligand transfer reagent towards late transition metal complex precursors. The synthesis and full characterization of selected, essentially unexplored homo- and heteroleptic 8-H-guaiazulenide complexes of iron, ruthenium, cobalt, rhodium, platinum, copper and zinc are discussed in detail. In order to demonstrate their potential in catalytic applications, [(GuaH)PtMe3 ] was selected. The latter proved an even higher catalytic activity in light induced olefin hydrosilylation at catalyst loads as low as 5 ppm than classical [CpPtMe3 ] in a typical test reaction of silicone elastomer fabrication. Our results demonstrate that traditional petrochemical based Cp metal chemistry and catalysis can be replaced, sometimes even outmatched by superior catalysts based on cheap building blocks from renewable feedstock.

Abstract
Protolysis of AlMe3 or AlBui3 with 2-diisopropylphosphinopyrrole (1) yields molecules containing two flanking phosphines and a central Al-Me (2-Me), Al-iBu (2-iBu), or Al-H (2-H) unit. The reactions of 2-Me with [L2MCl]2 (L = cyclooctene or 1/2 1,5-cyclooctadiene and M = Rh or Ir) in the presence of pyridine produces PAlClP pincer complexes (3-Rh and 3-Ir) with Al-Cl and M-Me bonds. The analogous reaction of a mixture of 2-iBu and 2-H with [L2MCl]2 and pyridine resulted in the formation of analogous Rh-H (4-Rh) and Ir-H (4-Ir) complexes. Treatment of 3-Rh with NaBEt3H produced compound 5-Rh with an Al-Me and a Rh-H bond; the analogous reaction of 3-Ir did not result in a clean product. 4-Ir accepted an equivalent of H2 to produce 6-Ir with two terminal Ir-H bonds and one bridging Al-H-Ir moiety, whereas 4-Rh did not react with H2. The density functional theoretical treatment is in accord with this finding, highlights the likely mechanism for the H2 addition, and supports the bonding picture in 6-Ir arising from NMR and X-ray diffraction (XRD) observations. Spectroscopic data and XRD studies are consistent with distorted square-pyramidal structures (about Rh or Ir) for compounds 3-5, with an alane occupying the apical position. Complexes 3 and 4 possess some of the shortest known Rh-Al or Ir-Al distances.

Abstract
The lithium salts of anionic N‐heterocyclic thiones and selones [{(WCA‐IDipp)E}Li(toluene)] (1: E=S; 2: E=Se; WCA=B(C6F5)3, IDipp=1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)imidazolin‐2‐ylidene), which contain a weakly coordinating anionic (WCA) borate moiety in the imidazole backbone were reacted with Me3SiCl, to furnish the silylated adducts (WCA‐IDipp)ESiMe3 (3: E=S; 4: E=Se). The reaction of the latter with [(η5‐C5Me5)MCl2]2 (M=Rh, Ir) afforded the rhodium(III) and iridium(III) half‐sandwich complexes [{(WCA‐IDipp)E}MCl(η5‐C5Me5)] (5–8). The direct reaction of the lithium salts 1 and 2 with a half or a full equivalent of [M(COD)Cl]2 (M=Rh, Ir) afforded the monometallic complexes [{(WCA‐IDipp)E}M(COD)] (9–12) or the bimetallic complexes [μ2‐{(WCA‐IDipp)E}M2(COD)2(μ2‐Cl)] (13–16), respectively. The bonding situation in these complexes has been investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, revealing thiolate or selenolate ligand character with negligible metal‐chalcogen π‐interaction.

Rhodium(II)
carboxylates are privileged catalysts for the most
challenging carbene-, nitrene-, and oxo-transfer reactions. In this
work, we address the strategic challenges of current organic and inorganic
synthesis methods to access these rhodium(II) complexes through an
oxidative rearrangement strategy and a reductive ligation reaction.
These studies illustrate the multiple benefits of oxidative rearrangement
in the process-scale synthesis of congested carboxylates over nitrile
anion alkylation reactions, and the impressive effect of inorganic
additives in the reductive ligation of rhodium(III) salts.

Abstract
A new synthetic method for obtaining [RhCl(cod)(NHC)] complexes (1–4) (cod = η4-1,5-cyclooctadiene, NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene: IMes, SIMes, IPr, and SIPr, respectively) is reported together with the catalytic properties of 1–4 in nitrile hydration. In addition to the characterization of 1–4 in solution by 13C NMR spectroscopy, the structures of complexes 3, and 4 have been established also in the solid state with single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Rh(I)-NHC complexes displayed excellent catalytic activity in hydration of aromatic nitriles (up to TOF = 276 h−1) in water/2-propanol (1/1 v/v) mixtures in air.

Abstract
Deboronation of a carborane-substituted diphosphetane 2 in toluene yielded the first nido-carboranyldiphosphetane 1. The P-P bond in 1 can be broken via dismutation reactions with diaryl dichalcogenides yielding nido-carboranyl bis-phosphanes that were not accessible via established synthetic protocols. Additionally, transition metal complexes of 1 could be isolated including one coordination polymer. Notably, when the deboronation of 2 is carried out in ethanol, unprecedented nido-carborane-substituted secondary bis-phosphane monoxides (3, 4) are obtained. These compounds are interesting starting materials for further reactivity studies due to their P-H bonds. Experimental findings are supported by DFT calculations including the calculation of reaction mechanisms and NMR spectroscopic parameters.

Abstract
Ylide-substituted phosphines (YPhos) have been shown to be excellent ligands for several transition metal catalyzed reactions. Investigations of the coordination behavior of the YPhos ligand YSPPh2 (1) [with YS = (Ph3P)(SO2Tol)C] toward group 9 and 10 metals revealed a surprisingly diverse coordination chemistry of the ligand. With Ni(CO)4, the formation of a di- as well as tricarbonyl complex is observed depending on the reaction conditions. In [( κP,η 2 -benzene-1)Ni(CO)2] the phosphine ligand also coordinates via a phosphonium bound phenyl group to the metal leading to a unique nickel η 2 -arene interaction, which can be viewed as an intermediate state toward P-C bond activation. Full cleavage of the P-C bond takes place with [Rh(COD)Cl]2 leading to a complex salt with [( κP,κO-1)Rh(COD)]+ as cation and a dirhodium trichloride complex anion. Here, YSPPh2 underwent P-C bond cleavage to thus act as an anionic diphosphine ligand. In contrast, in [( κP,κO-1)Rh(COD)]+ as well as [( κP,κO-1)Rh(CO)Cl], formed from the reaction of 1 with [Rh(CO)2Cl]2, the YPhos ligand acts as bidentate ligand complexing the metal via the phosphine and sulfonyl moiety with an intact PPh3 unit. A further type of coordination is observed with [Ir(COD)Cl]2. Here, phosphine coordination is accompanied by C-H activation at one of the phosphonium bound phenyl groups leading to a cyclometalated complex.

Abstract
This study details attempts to access N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) featuring the diazaborolyl group, {(HCNDipp)2 B}, as one or both of the N-bound substituents, to generate strongly electron-donating and sterically imposing new carbene ligands. Attempts to isolate N-heterocyclic carbenes based around imidazolylidene or related heterocycles, are characterized by facile N-to-C migration of the boryl substituent. In the cases of imidazolium precursors bearing one N-bound diazaborolyl group and one methyl substituent, deprotonation leads to the generation of the target carbenes, which can be characterized in situ by NMR measurements, and trapped by reactions with metal fragments and elemental selenium. The half-lives of the free carbenes at room temperature range from 4-50 h (depending on the pattern of ancillary substituents) with N-to-C2 migration of the boryl function being shown to be the predominant rearrangement pathway. Kinetic studies show this to be a first-order process that occurs with an entropy of activation close to zero. DFT calculations imply that an intramolecular 1,2-shift is mechanistically feasible, with calculated activation energies of the order of 90-100 kJ mol-1 , reflecting the retention of significant aromatic character in the imidazole ring in the transition state. Trapping of the carbene allows for evaluation of steric and electronic properties through systems of the type LAuCl, LRh(CO)2 Cl, and LSe. A highly unsymmetrical (but nonetheless bulky) steric profile and moderately enhanced σ-donor capabilities (compared with IMes) are revealed.

Abstract
Two distorted square-planar RhI complexes (1 and 2) were obtained from [{RhCl(η4-cod)}2] and the respective P,N ligands. The metal-ligand interaction was probed with density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio (CASSCF-NEVPT2) calculations. NMR spectroscopy proved dynamic binding behaviour of the ligands in solution. The tetradenticity of the ligands also affects the electrochemical behaviour of complexes 1 and 2 significantly. Finally, preliminary catalytic studies, namely the dehydrocoupling of dimethylamine-borane, are presented.

Abstract
The anionic 5-acetylimidazol-2-ylidene-4-olate 1 -, named as "IMes-acac", is composed of fused diaminocarbene and acetylacetonato units in the same IMes-based imidazolyl ring. The bifunctional compound 1 - is shown to act as an effective, ditopic bridging ligand for transition metal centers. Several new complexes supported by this ligand were prepared, including the complex [RuCl(p-Cym)(κ2 O,O-1·H)](BF4) (2), which can be regarded as a metallated imidazolium salt, the homobimetallic complex [((COD)Rh)(RhCl(COD))(μ-1κ2 O,O:2κ1 C-1)] (4), the heterobimetallic complexes [((p-Cym)ClRu)(RhCl(COD))(μ-1κ2 O,O:2κ1 C-1)] (3), [((p-Cym)ClRu)(RhCl(CO)2)(μ-1κ2 O,O:2κ1 C-1)] (5), [((p-Cym)ClRu)(Cu(IPr))(μ-1κ2 O,O:2κ1 C-1)] (9), the anionic homoleptic Cu(I) complexes [Cu(κ1 C-1)2]K ([10]K) and [Cu(κ1 C-1)2](NEt4) ([10](NEt4)), and the heterotrimetallic complex [((p-Cym)RuCl)2(Cu)(μ-1κ2 O,O:3κ1 C-1)(μ-2κ2 O,O:3κ1 C-1)](PF6) (11). Preliminary studies on the possible preparation of supramolecular metallopolymers and electrochemical studies on the series of complexes are also reported.

Abstract
The reactions ofN,N′-bis(di-tert-butylphosphanyl)-imidazole-2-ylidene (PCNHCP) with [Rh(μ-Cl)(COD)]2, [Rh(μ-Cl)(CO)2]2, [Fe4Cl8(THF)6], elemental Se and [(C6F5)BO]3, have been investigated to evaluate the stereoelectronic properties of this hybrid ligand.

Abstract
Two square planar Rh(I) organometallic complexes namely [Rh(L(1))(cod)]Cl (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene, L(1)=2,2'-pyridylquinoxaline (1-Cl), [Rh(L1)(cod)](NO3) (1-NO(3)) and a series of novel octahedral rhodium(III) complexes of the general formulae mer-[Rh(L(1))Cl(3)(MeOH)] (2) and cis-[Rh(L(2))(2)Cl(2)]Cl (L(2)=4 carboxy 2 (2' pyridyl)quinoline (3), L(3)=2,2' bipyridine 4,4' dicarboxylic acid (4) were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. All the synthesized compounds including the previously prepared cis-[Rh(L(1))(2)Cl(2)]Cl complex (5) were biologically evaluated as potential inhibitors of the Platelet Activation Factor (PAF) and thrombin induced aggregation. In particular compounds 1-Cl and 1-NO(3) were found to be strong inhibitors of PAF with IC(50) values in the range of 16 nM and 15 nM rendering them good candidates for further investigation. Their potency is comparable to that of the widely used PAF receptor antagonists WEB2170, BN52021, and Rupatadine (IC(50) of 20, 30 and 260 nM respectively). Molecular docking calculations suggest that 1-Cl, 1-NO3 and 2 can be accommodated within the ligand-binding site of PAF receptor and block the activity of PAF. On the other hand, the octahedral rhodium(III) complexes 3-5 that cannot fit the ligand-binding domain, could potentially exhibit their activity at the extracellular domain of the receptor.

Abstract
Rhodium and iridium complexes of a new ferrocene-derived bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligand, [M(cod){1,2-(MeNCHCHNCCH(2))(2)C(5)H(3)}Fe(C(5)H(5))]BF(4) (M = Rh, 8a; M = Ir, 8b; cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), were synthesized from the corresponding bis(imidazolium) salt 6. The molecular structure of 8a was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 8a and 8b smoothly react with CO with displacement of the chelating cod ligand to give the corresponding dicarbonyl derivatives 9a and 9b.
