Abstract
The influence on glycosyl selectivity of substituting oxygen for sulfur at the 3-position of 4,6-O-benzylidene-protected mannopyranosyl thioglycosides is reported and varies considerably according to the protecting group employed at the 3-position. The substitution of a thioether at the 3-position for the more usual 3-O-benzyl ether results in a significant loss of selectivity. The installation of a 3-S-picolinyl thioether results in a complex reaction mixture, from which a stable seven-membered bridged bicyclic pyridinium ion is isolated, while the corresponding 3-O-picolinyl ether affords a highly α-selective coupling reaction. A 3-O-picolyl ester provides excellent β-selectivity, while the analogous 3-S-picolyl thioester gives a highly α-selective reaction. The best β-selectivity is seen with a 3-deoxy-3-(2-pyridinyldisulfanyl) system. These observations are discussed in terms of the influence of the various substituents on the central glycosyl triflate - ion pair equilibrium.

Abstract
The main focus of this review is to describe accomplishments made in the stereoselective synthesis of β-linked mannosides functionalized with carboxyls or amines/amides. These ManNAc, ManA and ManNAcA residues found in many glycoconjugates, bacterial polysaccharides, and alginates have consistently captured interest of the glycoscience community both due to synthetic challenge and therapeutic potential.

Abstract
The synthesis of (2-nitrophenyl)acetyl (NPAc)-protected glucosyl donors is described that were designed for the neighboring-group assisted glucosylation of base-labile natural products also being sensitive to hydrogenolysis. Glycosylation conditions were optimized using a trichloroacetimidate glucosyl donor, and cyclohexylmethanol and (+)-menthol as model acceptors. The approach was then extended to a one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 1,2-trans-glycosides. This method was finally applied for improved synthesis of the masked mycotoxin T2-O-β,d-glucoside.

Abstract
The development of glycobiology relies on the sources of particular oligosaccharides in their purest forms. As the isolation of the oligosaccharide structures from natural sources is not a reliable option for providing samples with homogeneity, chemical means become pertinent. The growing demand for diverse oligosaccharide structures has prompted the advancement of chemical strategies to stitch sugar molecules with precise stereo- and regioselectivity through the formation of glycosidic bonds. This Review will focus on the key developments towards chemical O-glycosylations in the current century. Synthesis of novel glycosyl donors and acceptors and their unique activation for successful glycosylation are discussed. This Review concludes with a summary of recent developments and comments on future prospects.

Abstract
A Hydrogen bond mediated aglycone delivery (HAD) method was applied to the synthesis of α-glucans, which are abundant in nature, but as targets represent a notable challenge to chemists. The synthesis of linear oligosaccharide sequences was accomplished in complete stereoselectivity in all glycosylations. The efficacy of HAD may diminish with the increased bulk of the glycosyl acceptor, and may be an important factor for the syntheses of oligomers beyond pentasaccharides. The synthesis of a branched structure proved more challenging, particularly with bulky trisaccharide acceptors.

Abstract
In the aim of developing new procedures for efficient oligosaccharide assembly, a range of S-thiazolinyl (STaz) glycosides have been synthesized. These novel derivatives were evaluated against a variety of reaction conditions and were shown to be capable of being chemoselectively activated in the armed-disarmed fashion. Moreover, the S-thiazolinyl moiety exhibited a remarkable propensity for selective activation over other common leaving groups. Conversely, a variety of leaving groups could be selectively activated over the STaz moiety, which, in turn, allowed STaz/S-ethyl and STaz/S-phenyl orthogonal approaches. To demonstrate versatility of novel STaz derivatives, a number of oligosaccharide targets have been synthesized in a convergent selective, orthogonal, and chemoselective fashion.
