Abstract
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are revolutionizing display applications. In this aspect, luminescent complexes of precious metals such as iridium, platinum, or ruthenium still playing a significant role. Emissive compounds of earth-abundant copper with equivalent performance are desired for practical, large-scale applications such as solid-state lighting and displays. Copper(I)-based emitters are well-known to suffer from weak spin-orbit coupling and a high reorganization energy upon photoexcitation. Here we report a cationic organo-copper cluster [Cu4(PCP)3]+ (PCP = 2,6-(PPh2)2C6H3) that features suppressed nonradiative decays, giving rise to a robust narrow-band green luminophore with a photoluminescent (PL) efficiency up to 93%. PL decay kinetics corroborated by DFT calculations reveal a complex emission mechanism involving contributions of both thermally activated delayed fluorescence and phosphorescence. This robust compound was solution-processed into a thin film in prototype OLEDs with external quantum efficiency up to 11% and a narrow emission bandwidth (65 nm fwhm).

Abstract
In this paper, the synthesis, comprehensive characterization and biological and photocatalytic properties of two series of neutral IrIII biscyclometalated complexes of general formula [Ir(C^N)2 (N^O)], where the N^O ligands are 2-(benzimidazolyl)phenolate-N,O (L1, series a) and 2-(benzothiazolyl)phenolate-N,O (L2, series b), and the C^N ligands are 2-(phenyl)pyridinate or its derivatives, are described,. Complexes of types a and b exhibit dissimilar photophysical and biological properties. In vitro cytotoxicity tests conclusively prove that derivatives of series a are harmless in the dark against SW480 cancer cells (colon adenocarcinoma), but express enhanced cytotoxicity versus the same cells after stimulation with UV or blue light. In contrast, complexes of type b show a very high cytotoxic activity in the dark, but low photosensitizing ability. Thus, the ancillary N^O ligand is the main factor in terms of cytotoxic activity both in the dark and upon irradiation. However, the C^N ligands play a key role regarding cellular uptake. In particular, the complex of formula [Ir(dfppy)2 (L1)] (dfppy=2-(4,6-difluorophenyl)pyridinate) [3 a] has been identified as both an efficient photosensitizer for 1 O2 generation and a potential agent for photodynamic therapy. These capabilities are probably related to a combination of its notable cellular internalization, remarkable photostability, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and long triplet excited-state lifetime. Both types of complexes exhibit notable catalytic activity in the photooxidation of thioanisole and S-containing aminoacids with full selectivity.

Abstract
Mononuclear and trinuclear bis‐cyclometallated IrIII complexes of the host ligands tris(4‐[4′‐methyl‐2,2′‐bipyridyl]methyl)cyclotriguaiacylene (L1) and tris(4‐(4′‐methyl‐2,2′‐ bipyridyl)carboxy)cyclotriguaiacylene (L2) have been prepared. Complexes [{Ir(ppy)2}3(L1)](PF6)3 (1.1), [{Ir(ppy)2}(L1)](PF6)3 (1.2), [{Ir(ppy)2}3(L2)](PF6)3 (2.1) and [{Ir(ppy)2}(L2)](PF6)3 (2.2) (where ppy=phenylpyridinato) showed distinct photophysical properties depending on the L ligand. Complexes featuring the L1 ligand were comparatively blue‐shifted in solution, with longer lifetimes and higher quantum yields. The mixed bis‐cyclometallated IrIII complexes [{Ir(ppy)2}{Ir(dFppy)2}2(L1)](PF6)3 (1.3), [{Ir(ppy)2}{Ir(dFppy)2}2(L2)](PF6)3 (2.3), [{Ir(ppy)2}2{Ir(dFppy)2}(L1)](PF6)3 (1.4) and [{Ir(ppy)2}2{Ir(dFppy)2}(L2)](PF6)3 (2.4) (where dFppy=2,4‐difluorophenylpyrinato) were also synthesised. Steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy, along with electrochemical investigations, show that the Ir(III) chromophores within these mixed Ir‐environment species behave as isolated centres, with no energy transfer or electronic communication between them.

Abstract
The luminescent and mesomorphic properties of a series of metal complexes based on hexacatenar 2,2':6',2''-terpyridines are investigated using experimental methods and density functional theory (DFT). Two types of ligand are examined, namely 5,5''-di(3,4,5-trialkoxyphenyl)terpyridine with or without a fused cyclopentene ring on each pyridine and their complexes were prepared with the following transition metals: Zn(II) , Co(III) , Rh(III) , Ir(III) , Eu(III) and Dy(III) . The exact geometry of some of these complexes was determined by single X-ray diffraction. All complexes with long alkyl chains were found to be liquid crystalline, which property was induced on complexation. The liquid-crystalline behaviour of the complexes was studied by polarising optical microscopy and small-angle X-ray diffraction. Some of the transition metal complexes (for example, those with Zn(II) and Ir(III) ) are luminescent in solution, the solid state and the mesophase; their photophysical properties were studied both experimentally and using DFT methods (M06-2X and B3LYP).
