Abstract
Stereoconvergent reactions enable the transformation of mixed stereoisomers into well-defined, chiral products─a crucial strategy for handling Z/E-mixed olefins, which are common but challenging substrates in organic synthesis. Herein, we report a stereoconvergent and highly enantioselective method for synthesizing Z-homoallylic alcohols via the nickel-catalyzed reductive coupling of Z/E-mixed 1,3-dienes with aldehydes. This process is enabled by an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand characterized by C2-symmetric backbone chirality and bulky 2,6-diisopropyl N-aryl substituents. Our method achieves excellent stereocontrol over both enantioselectivity and Z-selectivity in a single step, producing chiral Z-homoallylic alcohols that are valuable in natural products and pharmaceuticals.

Abstract
The incorporation of fluorine atoms in organics improves their bioactivity and lipophilicity. Catalytic functionalization of gem-difluorodienes represents one of the most straightforward approaches to access fluorinated alkenes. In contrast to the regular 1,3-dienes that undergo diverse asymmetric di/hydrofunctionalizations, the regio- and enantioselective oxyamination of gem-difluorodienes remains untouched. Herein, we report asymmetric 1,4-oxyamination of gem-difluorodiene by chiral rhodium-catalyzed three-component coupling with readily available carboxylic acid and dioxazolone, affording gem-difluorinated 1,4-amino alcohol derivatives. Our asymmetric protocol exhibits high 1,4-regio- and enantioselectivity with utility in the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals and natural products. Stoichiometric experiments provide evidences for the π-allylrhodium pathway. Related oxyamination was also realized when trifluoroethanol was used as an oxygen nucleophile.

Abstract
We present the first enantioselective nickel-catalyzed borylative coupling of 1,3-dienes with aldehydes, providing an efficient route to highly valuable homoallylic alcohols in a single step. The reaction involves the 1,4-carboboration of dienes, leading to the formation of C-C and C-B bonds accompanied by the construction of two continuous stereogenic centers. Enabled by a chiral spiro phosphine-oxazoline nickel complex, this transformation yields products with exceptional diastereoselectivity, E-selectivity, and enantioselectivity. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction can be controlled by employing either (Z)-1,3-dienes or (E)-1,3-dienes.

Abstract
A new, efficient and practical method for the three-component arylative coupling of aldehydes, alkynes and arylboronic acids has been developed through nickel catalysis. This transformation provides diverse Z-selective tetrasubstituted allylic alcohols without the use of any aggressive oragnometallic nucleophiles or reductants. Moreover, benzylalcohols are viable coupling partners via oxidation state manipulation and arylative coupling in one single catalytic cycle. This reaction features a direct and flexible approach for the preparation of stereodefined arylated allylic alcohols with broad substrate scope under mild conditions. The utility of this protocol is demonstrated through the synthesis of diverse biologically active molecular derivatives.

Abstract
The first Ni-catalyzed asymmetric reductive coupling of 2-aza-butadiene with aldehydes was achieved to synthesize chiral γ-secondary amino alcohols. This transformation features good enantioselectivity and tolerance to various functional groups, which may serve as a complementary method to previously reported noble-metal-catalyzed protocols. Through competition reaction, 2-aza-butadiene was proved to be a more reactive coupling component than its full-carbon analogue, 1,3-butadiene. Notably, this reaction delivers β-siloxyl imine, an aza-aldol-type product which is difficult to access by conventional methods.

Abstract
The nickel catalyzed reductive coupling of aldehydes with sorbate esters and related electron-deficient 1,3-dienes are known in the literature to occur at the π-bond proximal to the ester to afford aldol-type products. In stark contrast to this established path, a VAPOL-derived phosphoramidite ligand in combination with a bench-stable nickel precatalyst brokers a regiocomplementary course in that C-C bond formation proceeds exclusively at the distal alkene site to give deoxypropionate type products carrying an acrylate handle; they can be made in either anti- or syn-configured form. In addition to this enabling reverse pathway, the reaction is distinguished by excellent levels of chemo-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivity; moreover, it can be extended to the catalytic formation of F3C-substituted stereogenic centers. The use of a dienyl pinacolboronate instead of a sorbate ester is also possible, which opens access to valuable chiral borylated building blocks in optically active form.

Abstract
The enantioselective synthesis of bis-homoallylic alcohols through nickel-catalyzed three-component fragment couplings of simple aldehydes, dienes, and aryl organoborons is disclosed. The reactions proceed through diene dicarbofunctionalization that concurrently forms two C-C bonds and two stereogenic centers. The transformations are promoted by a 5.0 mol % loading of a readily accessible chiral phosphine-nickel complex and afford products with high stereoselectivity.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed regiodivergent hydrosilylation of a wide range of simple allenes is reported. Linear and branched allylsilanes were formed by judicious choice of solvents. Furthermore, branched allylsilanes were obtained with high enantioselectivity (up to 97% enantiomeric excess) with the aid of a C2-symmetric bisphosphine ligand in the unprecedented asymmetric allene hydrosilylation.

Nickel catalysis

phosphoramidite ligands provides selective access to monoprotected
vicinal diols by reductive coupling of dienol ethers and aldehydes.
The observed regioselectivity is unprecedented, in that the diene
reacts at the least nucleophilic and most hindered C atom that is
attached to the oxygen substituent rather than at the terminal position.
Notably, both syn and anti diastereomers
of the products can be accessed depending on the configuration of
the diene partner with usually excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Metal-catalyzed enantioselective conjugate additions are highly reliable methods for stereoselective synthesis; however, multicomponent reactions that are initiated by conjugate arylation of acyclic π-systems are rare. These reactions generally proceed with poor diastereoselectivity while requiring basic, moisture sensitive organometallic nucleophiles. Here, we show that Rh-catalysts supported by a tetrafluorobenzobarrelene ligand (Ph-tfb) enable the enantio-, diastereo-, and Z-selective α,δ-difunctionalization of electron-deficient 1,3-dienes with organoboronic acid nucleophiles and aldehyde electrophiles to generate Z-homoallylic alcohols with three stereocenters. The reaction accommodates diene substrates activated by ester, amide, ketone, or aromatic groups and can be used to couple aryl, alkenyl, or alkyl aldehydes. Diastereoselective functionalization of the Z-olefin unit in the addition products allows for the generation of compounds with five stereocenters in high dr and ee. Mechanistic studies suggest aldehyde allylrhodation is the rate-determining step, and unlike reactions of analogous Rh-enolates, the Rh-allyl species generated by δ-arylation undergoes aldehyde trapping rather than protonolysis, even when water is present as a cosolvent. These findings should have broader implications in the use of privileged metal-catalyzed conjugate addition reactions as entry points toward the preparation of acyclic molecules containing nonadjacent stereocenters.

Abstract
The synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of pyridine(diimine) iron piperylene and isoprene complexes are described. These diene complexes are competent precatalysts for (i) the selective cross-[2+2]-cycloaddition of butadiene or (E)-piperylene with ethylene and α-olefins and (ii) the 1,4-hydrovinylation of isoprene with ethylene. In the former case, kinetic analysis implicates the diamagnetic η4-piperylene complex as the resting state prior to rate-determining oxidative cyclization. Variable temperature 1H NMR and EXSY experiments established that diene exchange from the diamagnetic, 18e- complexes occurs rapidly in solution at ambient temperature through a dissociative mechanism. The solid-state structure of (Me(Et)PDI)Fe(η4-piperylene) (Me(Et)PDI = 2,6-(2,6-Me2-C6H3N═CEt)2C5H3N), was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and confirmed the s-trans coordination of the monosubstituted 1,3-diene. Possible relationships between ligand-controlled diene coordination geometry, metallacycle denticity, and chemoselectivity of iron-mediated cycloaddition reactions are discussed.

Highly Selective and Catalytic Generation of Acyclic Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters via Functionalization of 1,3-Dienes with CO 2. J Am Chem Soc 2019; 141:18825-18835. Abstract
The catalytic asymmetric functionalization of readily available 1,3-dienes is highly important, but current examples are mostly limited to the construction of tertiary chiral centers. The asymmetric generation of acyclic products containing all-carbon quaternary stereocenters from substituted 1,3-dienes represents a more challenging, but highly desirable, synthetic process for which there are very few examples. Herein, we report the highly selective copper-catalyzed generation of chiral all-carbon acyclic quaternary stereocenters via functionalization of 1,3-dienes with CO2. A variety of readily available 1,1-disubstituted 1,3-dienes, as well as a 1,3,5-triene, undergo reductive hydroxymethylation with high chemo-, regio-, E/Z-, and enantioselectivities. The reported method features good functional group tolerance, is readily scaled up to at least 5 mmol of starting diene, and generates chiral products that are useful building blocks for further derivatization. Systemic mechanistic investigations using density functional theory calculations were performed and provided the first theoretical investigation for an asymmetric transformation involving CO2. These computational results indicate that the 1,2-hydrocupration of 1,3-diene proceeds with high π-facial selectivity to generate an (S)-allylcopper intermediate, which further induces the chirality of the quaternary carbon center in the final product. The 1,4-addition of an internal allylcopper complex, which differs from previous reports involving terminal allylmetallic intermediates, to CO2 kinetically determines the E/Z- and regioselectivity. The rapid reduction of a copper carboxylate intermediate to the corresponding silyl-ether in the presence of Me(MeO)2SiH provides the exergonic impetus and leads to chemoselective hydroxymethylation rather than carboxylation. These results provide new insights for guiding further development of asymmetric C-C bond formations with CO2.

Abstract
Chemists no longer doubt the importance of a methodology that could activate and utilize aldehydes in organic syntheses since many products prepared from them support our daily life. Tremendous effort has been devoted to the development of these methods using main-group elements and transition metals. Thus, many organic chemists have used an activator-(aldehyde oxygen) interaction, namely, η(1) coordination, whereby a Lewis or Brønsted acid activates an aldehyde. In the field of coordination chemistry, η(2) coordination of aldehydes to transition metals by coordination of a carbon-oxygen double bond has been well-studied; this activation mode, however, is rarely found in transition-metal catalysis. In view of the distinctive reactivity of an η(2)-aldehyde complex, unprecedented reactions via this intermediate are a distinct possibility. In this Account, we summarize our recent results dealing with nickel(0)-catalyzed transformations of aldehydes via η(2)-aldehyde nickel and oxanickelacycle intermediates. The combination of electron-rich nickel(0) and strong electron-donating N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands adequately form η(2)-aldehyde complexes in which the aldehyde is highly activated by back-bonding. With Ni(0)/NHC catalysts, processes involving intramolecular hydroacylation of alkenes and homo/cross-dimerization of aldehydes (the Tishchenko reaction) have been developed, and both proceed via the simultaneous η(2) coordination of aldehydes and other π components (alkenes or aldehydes). The results of the mechanistic studies are consistent with a reaction pathway that proceeds via an oxanickelacycle intermediate generated by the oxidative cyclization with a nickel(0) complex. In addition, we have used the η(2)-aldehyde nickel complex as an effective activator for an organosilane in order to generate a silicate reactant. These reactions show 100% atom efficiency, generate no wastes, and are conducted under mild conditions.

Abstract
In summary, a first copper-catalyzed synthesis of α-aryl-β-borylstannane compounds was accomplished through three-component borylstannation of aryl-substituted alkenes. In the exploration of an asymmetric variant, chiral sulfinylphosphine ligands proved advantageous in controlling stereochemistry of B-Cu addition and in promoting transmetalation of enantioenriched alkyl-Cu species. The stereochemical outcome supported a sequential syn-borylcupration and configuration-retentive transmetalation mechanism. Moreover, α-chiral β-borylstannanes were easily transformed into a diverse array of secondary alkylstannanes and triarylethane with high enantiomeric purity. The applications of chiral sulfinylphosphine ligands to other tandem Cu-B addition reactions are currently under investigation in our group.

Abstract
Catalytic reactions have played an indispensable role in organic chemistry for the last several decades. In particular, catalytic multicomponent reactions have attracted significant attention due to their efficiency and expediency towards complex molecule synthesis. The presence of bismetallic reagents (e.g. B-B, Si-Si, B-Si, Si-Sn, etc.) in this process renders the products enriched with various functional groups and multiple stereocenters. For this reason, catalytic bismetallative coupling is considered an effective method to generate the functional and stereochemical complexity of simple hydrocarbon substrates. This review highlights key developments of transition-metal catalyzed bismetallative reactions involving multiple π components. Specifically, it will highlight the scope, synthetic applications, and proposed mechanistic pathways of this process.

Abstract
A series of dichlorocyclophosphazanes [{ClP(μ-NR)}2 ] containing chiral and achiral R groups was obtained from simple commercially available amines and PCl3 . Their condensation reactions with axially chiral biaryl diols yielded ansa-bridged chiral cyclophosphazane (CycloP) ligands. This highly modular methodology allows extensive elaboration of the ligand set, in which the chirality can be introduced at the diol bridge and/or the amido R group. This provides the possibility to observe match and mismatch effects in catalysis. A series of twenty CycloP ligands was synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, HRMS, elemental analysis, and in selected cases, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. These studies show that all of the ditopic CycloP ligands are C2 symmetric, rendering their metal coordination sites symmetry equivalent. Two well-established enantioselective reactions were explored by using late-transition metal CycloP complexes as catalysts; the gold-catalyzed hydroamination of γ-allenyl sulfonamides and the asymmetric nickel-catalyzed three-component coupling of a diene and an aldehyde. The steric demands of the CycloP ligands have a subtle influence on the reactivity and selectivity observed in both reactions. Good enantiomeric ratios (e.r.) as high as 89:11 in the gold-catalyzed reaction and 92:8 in the nickel-catalyzed bis-homoallylation reaction were observed.
