Abstract
Despite the accessibility of numerous alkynes through coupling or substitution reactions, the synthesis of trialkyl-substituted alkynes is still a major challenge. Within this context, we reexplored the electrophilic alkynyl substitution between tertiary aliphatic chlorides and silylated alkynes. We were able to demonstrate that this approach is significantly more general than originally demonstrated by Capozzi and even tolerates several functional groups. Furthermore, we report diastereoselective reactions which in some instances gave excellent diastereoselectivity (dr >95:5).

Abstract
A new method for the generation of benzyl radicals from terminal aromatic alkynes has been developed, which allows the direct cross coupling with acrylate derivatives. Our additive-free protocol employs air-stable diamino Mo3S4 cubane-type cluster catalysts in the presence of hydrogen. A sulfur-centered cluster catalysis mechanism for benzyl radical formation is proposed based on catalytic and stoichiometric experiments. The process starts with the cluster hydrogen activation to form a bis(hydrosulfido) [Mo3(μ3-S)(μ-S)(μ-SH)2Cl3(dmen)3]+ intermediate. The reaction of various aromatic terminal alkynes containing different functionalities with a series of acrylates affords the corresponding Giese-type radical addition products.

Abstract
A catalytic enantioselective conjugate addition with commercially available allenylboronic acid pinacol ester as nucleophile promoted by a chiral copper complex of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) is disclosed. This process constitutes an unprecedented instance of the conjugate addition that introduces an allenyl group into α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, affording products that are otherwise difficult to access in up to 92% yield, >98% allenyl addition selectivity and 96:4 enantiomeric ratio. DFT calculations were performed to elucidate the origins of enantioselectivity.

Abstract
We describe the synthesis of α-alkynyl-β-substituted cyclic ketones and analogue chromanones via one-pot Michael addition/hypervalent iodine-based α-alkynylation. Cu(I)-catalyzed Michael addition using either alkyl-aluminum or Grignard reagents, followed by diastereoselective electrophilic alkynylation of the resulting enolate by 1-ethynyl-1λ3,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-one (EBX) resulted in the α-alkynyl-β-substituted cyclic ketones or chromanones within 34-89% yield (16 examples). The reaction was successfully upscaled to the 5 mmol scale, and further functionalization of a model alkynylated ketone was demonstrated.

Abstract
An organoaluminum-free and catalyst-free anti-carboalumination of alkynes using aluminum trihalides and silyl ketene imines was developed. Three components, an alkyne, AlX3, and a silyl ketene imine, were simply mixed to give the alkenylaluminum bearing a cyano group with regioselectivity. Theoretical calculations revealed the effective activation of the alkyne by AlX3 to enhance the regioselective carboalumination. The synthesized alkenylaluminums were applicable to many organic transformations.

Abstract
cis-β-Bromostyrene derivatives were synthesized stereospecifically from cinnamic acids through β-lactone intermediates. The synthetic sequence did not require the purification of the β-lactone intermediates although they were found to be stable and readily purified in most cases.

Abstract
The availability of enantiomerically enriched 1,3-dienyl substituted quaternary stereocenters is highly valuable for the synthesis of complex natural compounds. Despite great advances in the area of construction of alkenyl-substituted types, a general, practical catalytic system that works for enantioselective formation of 1,3-diene derivatives still remains to be developed. Herein, we disclose the first asymmetric Claisen rearrangement of allenyl vinyl ethers to access optically active β-ketoesters, containing branched 1,3-butadienyl substituted stereocenters. A variety of substrates bearing a range of useful functional groups were well tolerated, thus affording the corresponding products with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and high yields (up to 91%).

Abstract
The addition of MeLi to boron enolates produced by the 1,4-addition of Ar2Cu(CN)Li2 to BF3·OEt2-activated enones was followed by the reaction with ClP(O)(OEt)2 to afford the corresponding enol phosphates in moderate to good yields. The scope of this method was examined with sterically hindered or electronically biased enones and/or reagents. This activation of boron enolates was successfully applied to the synthesis of the methyl ether of Δ(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Catalytic enantioselective synthesis of quaternary carbon stereocentres. Nature 2015; 516:181-91. Abstract
Quaternary carbon stereocentres-carbon atoms to which four distinct carbon substituents are attached-are common features of molecules found in nature. However, before recent advances in chemical catalysis, there were few methods of constructing single stereoisomers of this important structural motif. Here we discuss the many catalytic enantioselective reactions developed during the past decade for the synthesis of single stereoisomers of such organic molecules. This progress now makes it possible to incorporate quaternary stereocentres selectively in many organic molecules that are useful in medicine, agriculture and potentially other areas such as flavouring, fragrances and materials.

Abstract
A new stereoselective alkylation methodology is presented for formation of chiral, nonracemic quaternary centers via a chiral auxiliary protocol involving α-alkylated malonate imidazolidinones. Based on two X-ray structures of quaternized products, the diastereoselectivity observed may be rationalized via a transition-state involving an s-transC-N conformation of the C-N bond of the auxiliary, with the metal cation (K(+)) chelated into the malonate six-membered hole as a Z-enolate. A deprotection protocol involving ethanethiolate exchange of the imide to the corresponding thioester, followed by a standard Fukuyama reduction and a borohydride reduction, furnishes α,α'-quaternized β-hydroxypropionates in high ee overall.
