Abstract
![]()
This Review examines parts per million (ppm) palladium
concentrations
in catalytic cross-coupling reactions and their relationship with
mole percentage (mol %). Most studies in catalytic cross-coupling
chemistry have historically focused on the concentration ratio between
(pre)catalyst and the limiting reagent (substrate), expressed as mol
%. Several recent papers have outlined the use of “ppm level”
palladium as an alternative means of describing catalytic cross-coupling
reaction systems. This led us to delve deeper into the literature
to assess whether “ppm level” palladium is a practically
useful descriptor of catalyst quantities in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling
reactions. Indeed, we conjectured that many reactions could, unknowingly,
have employed low “ppm levels” of palladium (pre)catalyst,
and generally, what would the spread of ppm palladium look like across
a selection of studies reported across the vast array of the cross-coupling
chemistry literature. In a few selected examples, we have examined
other metal catalyst systems for comparison with palladium.

Design of nanostructured palladium catalyst supported by chitosan/Co 3O 4 microspheres and investigation of its catalytic behavior against synthesis of benzonitriles. Int J Biol Macromol 2021; 182:722-729. Abstract
Designing of eco-friendly, low cost, and thermally stable stabilizing/supporting agents are always desired for production of catalyst systems which provide good catalytic performance in organic reactions. In this study, a novel, green, and efficient stabilizer containing chitosan/Co3O4 microspheres (CS/Co3O4) was developed. Palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were then successfully immobilized on CS/Co3O4 as a heterogeneous nanocatalyst (Pd NPs/CS/Co3O4). Characterization of the designed materials were performed by FT-IR, TEM, FE-SEM, XRD, and EDS and it was determined that Pd NPs formed as approximately 20 nm. Catalytic behavior of Pd NPs/CS/Co3O4 was investigated in the production of different substituted benzonitriles via aryl halide cyanation. Catalytic studies indicate that electron-rich or poor aromatic halides were smoothly cyanated with good reaction yields by Pd NPs/CS/Co3O4 nanocatalyst by using K4[Fe(CN)6] as the cyanating agent. Moreover, it was found that Pd NPs/CS/Co3O4 nanocatalyst provided not only good reaction yields and but also good recovery/reusability for six times in the aryl halide cyanations. This paper displays that Pd NPs/CS/Co3O4 nanocatalyst has a great catalytic and recycling potential for aryl halide cyanations.

Abstract
Isolated chemical reactors were fabricated by integrating catalytically active sites (Pd) with magnetic functionality (Fe3O4) along with carbon while preserving the constituents functional properties to realize the structure-property relationship of Pd by comparing the catalytic activity of spherical Pd NPs with cubical Pd NPs for cyanation in aryl halides using K4[Fe(CN)6] as a green cyanating agent to yield corresponding nitriles. The superior catalytic reactivity of the cubical Pd NPs is attributed to the larger number of {100} surface facets. The TEM images of reused catalyst shows the change in structure from cubical to spherical nanoparticles, attributed to the efficient leaching susceptibility of Pd {100} surface facets. The cubical Pd NPs on carbon@Fe3O4 is attractive in view of its high catalytic efficiency, easy synthesis, magnetic separability, environmental friendliness, high stability, gram scale applicability, and reusability.

Abstract
Melted poly(ethylene glycols) (PEGs) were used for the first time as solvent for the sonochemically promoted cyanation of aryl halides employing inexpensive and safe K4[Fe(CN)6] and a relatively low amount of Cu-based catalyst. The Mw (weight-average polymer molecular weight) of PEG proved to notably influence the substrate conversion, which is indicative of a strong dependence of the sonication efficacy on solvent properties. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) contributed to the characterization of the polymer and the elucidation of the catalytic system.

Abstract
Playing it safe: The nontoxic cyanide source K4 [Fe(CN)6]·3H2O can be used for the cyanation of (hetero)aryl halides. The application of palladacycle catalysts prevents poisoning during catalyst formation, thereby allowing for low catalyst loadings, fast reaction times, and wide heterocyclic substrate scope.

Abstract
The efficient and environmentally friendly cyanoaroylation of imines bearing a thiazole ring via a one-pot three-component condensation of N-arylidenethiazol-2-amines, aroyl chlorides and potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) is described. This protocol has the advantages of using an eco-friendly cyanide source, a simple work-up procedure and affords high yields of products.
