Abstract
This paper provides a description and evaluation of training male sexual abuse survivors to deliver Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Interviewing with Trauma-Informed Affirmative Care (MI-AC) online to sexual and gender minority (SGM) men with sexual assault histories and depression. After a search and selection process, 26 men with lived experience of sexual abuse received MI training that included the use of role-playing, video demonstrations, and practice followed by weekly supervision while co-leading groups. Peer leaders completed several measures pre and post training, including beliefs about MI and self-reported learning of MI and satisfaction with the training. A sample of MI and MI-AC audio sessions were independently rated for adherence and competence. Peer leaders' beliefs about MI changed over time, while self-rated skill level stayed consistent. Peer leaders demonstrated good adherence to the MI and MI-AC conditions. Results suggest that men with lived experience of sexual trauma effectively learned to deliver MI and/or MI-AC to SGM male survivors in online groups. These interventions have the potential to expand the reach of limited services for this population as well as reduce their depression and assist in SGM men with histories of sexual abuse entering into formal mental health services.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES (1) To systematically review the literature on behavior change counseling (BCC) training programs targeting nurses and nursing students; (2) to characterize these training programs according to their content (i.e., targeted health behavior[s], BCC approaches taught, BCC techniques taught), structure, and modes of delivery. DESIGN A systematic, descriptive literature review. DATA SOURCES PubMed, CINAHL and Embase were searched with no time limitation in August 2018. REVIEW METHODS A systematic, descriptive literature review structured according to Paré et al.'s methodology and the PRISMA guidelines. Primary studies were included if they evaluated a BCC training program with nurses or nursing students. Review authors screened studies, extracted data, and assessed study quality using the MERSQI. Data was synthesized through narrative synthesis, descriptive statistics, and content analysis. RESULTS From a pool of 267 articles, we included 25 articles published between 2003 and 2018. Two studies scored as low quality (8%), 18 as moderate quality (72%), and 5 as high quality (20%). Physical activity (n = 14; 56%) and smoking (n = 11; 44%) were the most frequently targeted health behaviors. Eleven BCC approaches were cited (e.g., motivational interviewing), and 48 BCC techniques were identified (e.g., eliciting and scaling change talk). The median number of training sessions was 3 (interquartile range [IQR] 5), the median training program duration was 3 h (IQR 6.25 h), and median training period was 24.5 days (IQR 110 days). Programs were most often delivered as seminars and workshops. CONCLUSIONS High-quality studies reporting the assessment of BCC training programs with nurses and nursing students are scarce. There was significant heterogeneity in terms of the BCC approaches and techniques taught. Current evidence suggests nurses and nursing students learn BCC mainly through active, realistic practice. However, computer-based training programs are rapidly gaining ground. Further research emphasizing theory-based BCC training programs is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In assisting the nurse's counselling on lifestyle changes in hypertension care a behaviour model can be used. AIM To analyse the effects of nurses' training on the use of the stages of change model when counselling hypertensive patients to perform lifestyle changes. METHODS As part of a randomised, controlled trial, 19 nurses belonging to the intervention group took part in video-recorded consultation training with simulated patients. To evaluate the training, the nurses audio-recorded their consultations with two patients before and after the intervention. Analysis focused on the areas of non-pharmacological treatment and the nurses' attention to the patients' readiness for change. RESULTS Patient participation in the consultations increased after the training. The importance of non-pharmacological treatment was mentioned more frequently for all areas of lifestyle behaviour, exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, food and stress, and the nurses acquired a more distinct structure for their consultations. The mean length of the recorded consultations increased from 18 min to 20.5 min. All the criteria for fulfillment of attention to patient's readiness to change were met in nine consultations before the training and in seven after it. After the training, attention was paid to support more frequently than before in the action and maintenance stages and a great deal of information was provided.

Abstract
The use of collaborative communication styles such as motivational interviewing promotes patient engagement, health literacy, self-management, and improved outcomes for individuals with chronic illness. Brief motivational interviewing is an adaptation developed for use with medical populations in time-limited encounters. Inpatient nurses caring for individuals with chronic diagnoses may lack knowledge regarding brief motivational interviewing. This evidence-based quality improvement project used an online approach to introduce continuing education regarding brief motivational interviewing within the constraints of the inpatient setting. Nurses on four units in a community hospital completed a web-based learning module in preparation for context-based skills training. A significant increase in knowledge scores, combined with strong positive attitudes prior to and following the module, indicated a reliable foundation for skills training within the practice setting. Nurses' enhanced ability to recognize the practice of motivational interviewing in scenarios following online education supported the potential value of a hybrid approach to education.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Though motivational interviewing (MI) has demonstrated efficacy in a range of behaviour change settings, effectiveness will require successful integration into everyday practice. This study examines implementers' views on delivering MI within an exercise referral scheme and consistency of consultations with MI before and after a 2-day workshop. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 exercise professionals and 10 area coordinators delivering the Welsh National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS), and the MI trainer. Eleven professionals provided consultation recordings before and 6-months after training, coded for fidelity using the Behaviour Change Counselling Index. RESULTS The workshop was well received by most, triggering increased recognition of potential motivational roles of consultations. However, some cited difficulties combining MI with structured data gathering activities, whilst a minority rejected MI, seeing current practice as effective, or MI as unnecessary because patients were ready to change. Although limited aggregate improvement in practice was observed, substantial improvements were observed in some individuals. Comments on the need for further practice or training were widespread. CONCLUSIONS Efforts to implement MI should ensure that training and structures to provide monitoring and feedback are in place and that activities incorporated within consultations are compatible with MI delivery.

Abstract
Motivational interviewing (MI), an evidence-based counseling approach, has received much recognition from a wide variety of health care professionals. Because of the rising interest in MI, there is increasing demand for training in this counseling approach. The MI training community has answered this call and as a result placed much emphasis on studying the MI training process. The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic review of the published research on MI training. Our goal is to provide a consolidated account of MI trainings outlining the populations receiving training, methods used, and training outcomes. We also identify which aspects of the (W. R. Miller & T. B. Moyers, 2006) eight stages of learning MI each study addressed. Recommendations for advancing the MI training research are highlighted.

Abstract
One of the most common challenges faced by health professionals is encouraging patients to change their behavior to improve their health. This paper reports the development of a checklist, the behavior change counseling index (BECCI). This aims to measure practitioner competence in behavior change counseling (BCC), an adaptation of motivational interviewing suitable for brief consultations in healthcare settings. The checklist has demonstrated acceptable levels of validity, reliability and responsiveness, and aims to assist trainers and researchers in assessing change in practitioner behavior before, during and after training in BCC. BECCI will also provide valuable information about the standard of BCC that practitioners were trained to deliver in studies of BCC as an intervention.
