Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine the levels of sleep quality and attitudes toward death among breast cancer survivors and to examine the impact of sleep quality on attitudes toward death. METHODS This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 117 patients who had been treated for breast cancer in radiation oncology. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Death Attitude Profile-Revised Scale. RESULTS The mean score for sleep quality among breast cancer survivors was 15.17 ± 3.96, while the mean score for the Death Attitude Profile-Revised was 137.65 ± 30.74. Sleep quality was associated with marital status, place of residence, perception of economic status, presence of social support, time since diagnosis, body mass index, and other factors (p < 0.05). Attitudes toward death were associated with age, educational level, occupation, place of residence, perception of economic status, comorbidity, histopathological stage, chemotherapy status, type of breast surgery, and other factors (p < 0.05). Additionally, a moderately positive correlation was found between sleep quality and attitudes toward death among women undergoing breast cancer treatment (r = 0.368, p < 0.001). It was determined that patients' sleep quality, education status, and comorbidity had a significant effect on attitudes toward death and the variables explained 29.4% of the variance (R2 = 0.294) (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study shows that there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and attitudes toward death in cancer patients and that sleep quality affects attitudes toward death. In addition, when evaluating the sleep quality and attitudes toward death of women treated for breast cancer, taking into account their sociodemographic characteristics and treatment characteristics may contribute positively to the recovery process and quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patients with lung cancer endure the most sleep problems. Understanding the prevalence and risk factors of sleep disturbances in lung cancer populations is critical in reducing symptom burden and improving their quality of life. This systematic review aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of sleep disturbances in patients with lung cancer. METHODS Seven electronic databases were systematically screened for studies on the prevalence or risk factors of sleep disturbances in patients with lung cancer. Subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate significant heterogeneity (I2 > 50%) across studies. RESULTS Thirty-seven studies were found eligible. The pooled prevalence was 0.61 (95% CI = [0.54-0.67], I2 = 96%, p < 0.00001). Seven risk factors were subject to meta-analyses. Significant differences were found for old age (OR = 1.23; 95% CI = [1.09-1.39], p = 0.0006,I2 = 39%), a low education level (OR = 1.17; 95%CI = [1.20-2.66], p = 0.004, I 2 = 42%), fatigue (OR = 1.98; 95%CI = [1.23-3.18], p = 0.005, I 2 = 31%), pain (OR = 2.63; 95% CI = [1.35-5.14], p = 0.005, I 2 = 91%), tumor stage of III or IV (OR = 2.05; 95%CI = [1.54-2.72], p < 0.00001, I 2 = 42%), anxiety (OR = 1.62; 95%CI = [1.22-2.14], p = 0.0008, I2 = 78%), and depression (OR = 4.02; 95% CI = [1.39-11.61], p = 0.01, I2 = 87%). After the included studies were withdrawn one after the other, pain (OR = 3.13; 95% CI = [2.06-4.75], p < 0.00001, I 2 = 34%) and depression (OR = 5.47; 95% CI = [2.65-11.30], p < 0.00001) showed a substantial decrease of heterogeneity. Meanwhile, the heterogeneity of anxiety symptoms remained unchanged. CONCLUSION Results showed that sleep disturbances were experienced in more than 60% of patients with lung cancer. The comparatively high prevalence of sleep disturbances in this population emphasizes the need to adopt measures to reduce them. Significant associations were found between sleep disturbances and various factors, including age, education level, fatigue, pain, cancer stage, anxiety, and depression. Among these factors, depression emerged as the most significant. Future research should concentrate on identifying high-risk individuals and tailored interdisciplinary interventions based on these risk factors.

Abstract
AIM To assess early postoperative core symptoms in oesophageal cancer patients and their relationship with resilience. BACKGROUND Patients with oesophageal cancer face a high number of severe symptoms in the early post-operative period and require the development of an effective symptom management programme. Identifying core symptoms through network analysis helps in accurate patient care. DESIGN A multicentre cross-sectional study. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted from August 2022 to August 2023 at three hospitals in Anhui Province, China. A total of 469 patients were recruited for this study and 418 (89.1%) patients completed this investigation. Using network analysis to find early post-operative core symptoms in oesophageal cancer patients. Multiple linear regression was used to analyse resilience factors affecting core symptoms. RESULTS Sadness was the most core symptom in oesophageal cancer patients in the early post-operative period (rs = 1.41), followed by incision pain and difficulty breathing while resting (rs = 1.20, rs = 1.08). Resilience was significantly associated with patients' feelings of sadness, with optimism having the greatest impact on sadness (p < .01). CONCLUSION Sadness is the most core symptom in patients in the early post-operative period and special attention should be paid to improving their level of resilience. Local symptoms and dysfunction in the early post-operative period should be treated in a synergistic manner. IMPACT This study identifies core symptoms and their relationship to resilience in patients with oesophageal cancer in the early post-operative period. Symptoms as the main core symptom in patients in the early post-operative period, which was sadness and was significantly associated with resilience. Precise interventions can be made to target patients' core post-operative symptoms, which can help improve the effectiveness of symptom management. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Palliative care patients experience problems in sleep quality due to stress, chronic diseases, and physical and psychosocial problems. Our aim is to determine the perceived stress and sleep quality levels of our palliative care patients and their related factors. METHODS This cross-sectional, descriptive research was conducted between November 2023 and February 2024 at a palliative clinic located in Ankara, Turkey, that is affiliated with a training and research hospital. In the research, a data form, the Perceived Stress Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were used as data collection instruments. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests, and Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used for the analysis. RESULTS The total score on the Perceived Stress Scale was determined to be 35.81±7.45. The total score for Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was 13.20±3.20. Significant relationships were found between insufficient self-efficacy scores and habitual sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction and total Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores. Significant relationships were found between insufficient self-efficacy scores and sleep latency, habitual sleep efficiency, daytime dysfunction and total Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores. CONCLUSIONS This study determined that certain descriptive characteristics of palliative care patients affect their sleep quality and perceived stress level, as well as that some components of sleep quality and perceived stress level are related. Palliative care is holistic in nature, encompassing symptom management; therefore, the importance of patients' psychosocial integrity should not be overlooked. Consequently, identifying components that may hinder symptom management and addressing the patient comprehensively will be crucial.

Abstract
Background Cancer and associated treatment methods present numerous complications, including anorexia and disturbances in sleep patterns. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of reflexology on the symptoms of anorexia and sleep quality among individuals afflicted with cancer. Materials and Methods In this double-blinded randomized clinical trial, a total of 60 patients undergoing chemotherapy at Khansari Hospital, Arak, Iran, were selected using convenience sampling and then assigned to two groups of control and experimental using blocked randomization (30 patients in each group). The sample intervention group received reflexology in an exceedingly 4-week amount (two sessions a week), By contrast, the control group was administered a placebo treatment without exerting any pressure on the reflex points during the same time frame. Sleep quality and anorexia in patients were measured using a Pittsburgh questionnaire and visual analog scale before and right after the intervention. Eventually, the data were analyzed, and we used the tests of central tendency, dispersion, independent- and paired-samples t-tests, and Chi-square. Results The findings of the study revealed a significant improvement in sleep quality and reduction in anorexia symptoms among patients who received reflexology treatment scores (p < 0.001). Conversely, there was no significant difference in the control group before and after the intervention (without pressure effect on the foot points) (p > 0.05). Conclusions According to the positive effects on sleep quality and the reduction of anorexia symptoms, it is recommended to incorporate this therapeutic modality along with conventional medication for the treatment of individuals with cancer.

Abstract
Introduction The present study aimed to investigate the effect of resilience on sleep quality and explore the role of social support between resilience and sleep quality in cancer patients. Methods A multicenter and cross-sectional study was conducted in China from May to November 2021. A total of 202 cancer patients were recruited to complete the questionnaires composed of demographic information, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Resilience Scale-14 (RS-14), and Multidimensions Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The associations between resilience, social support, and sleep quality were explored through hierarchical regression analysis. Results The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 50% among cancer patients. Resilience, social support, and the interaction between resilience and social support were all found to be significantly associated with sleep quality. Results of simple slope analysis indicated that the association between resilience and sleep quality were gradually decreased with the increasing social support levels (1 SD below the mean, B=-0.225, β=-0.551, P<0.001), mean social support (B=-0.147, β=-0.353, P<0.001) and high social support (1 SD above the mean, B=-0.065, β=-0.156, P<0.001). Additionally, social support mediated the effect of resilience on sleep quality among cancer patients. Discussion Poor sleep quality has been common in cancer patients. Social support could mediate and alleviate the relationship between resilience and sleep quality among cancer patients. Besides providing sufficient social support, interventions based on resilience should be applied to address sleep problems in cancer patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Poor sleep quality is common in patients with cancer, but the prevalence rates varied widely across studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the pooled prevalence of poor sleep quality among patients with cancer. METHODS Systematic literature searches were independently conducted in the major databases (Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE and PsycINFO). Studies that reported the prevalence of poor sleep quality in patients with cancer were analyzed using a random effects model. Funnel plots and Egger's tests were used to assess publication bias. Statistical analyses were performed using R software. RESULTS A total of 59 epidemiological studies involving 16,223 patients were included. The pooled prevalence of poor sleep quality in patients with cancer was 57.4% [95% confidence interval (CI): 53.3% - 61.6%]. Additionally, three comparative studies with 372 patients and 412 healthy controls were included. Compared to healthy controls, patients with cancer had a significantly higher risk for poor sleep quality [odd ratio (OR) = 3.0; 95%CI: 1.2-7.2; P < 0.05]. Subgroup analyses of the studies revealed that studies from Middle East & North Africa region and low income countries, and on gynecological cancer as well as those with a lower cut-off value of sleep quality (all P < 0.01) reported a higher prevalence of poor sleep quality. Meta-regression analyses showed that higher prevalence of poor sleep quality was associated with higher prevalence of comorbid depression (P < 0.05) and anxiety (P < 0.01), but was associated with a lower education level (P < 0.05) and alcohol use ratio (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Poor sleep quality is common among patients with cancer. Considering the overall high prevalence rate and negative impact of poor sleep quality, appropriate measures to identify and improve poor sleep quality are needed to enhance the clinical outcomes in this group.

Abstract
Background Little is known about the relationship between sleep quality and lung cancer incidence. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the potential connection between sleep quality and lung cancer incidence. Methods We performed and selected a nested case-control study that included 150 lung cancer cases and 150 matched controls based on the Lianyungang cohort. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was utilized to investigate the connection between potential risk factors and lung cancer incidence risk. Results In this study, the average age of participants was 66.5 ± 9.1 years, with 58.7% being male, and 52.7% reportedly experiencing sleep quality problems. The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that poor sleep quality was connected to an increased lung cancer incidence risk (P = 0.033, odds ratio = 1.83, 95% confidence interval = [1.05-3.19]) compared with those with good sleep quality. The stratified analyses showed a significantly positive connection between poor sleep quality (vs. good sleep quality) and cancer risk in smokers (vs. non-smoker, P for interaction = 0.085). The combined effect analysis indicated that smokers with poor sleep quality suffered from a 2.79-fold increase in cancer incidence rates when compared with non-smokers with good sleep quality. Conclusions Poor sleep quality was positively connected to an increased lung cancer incidence risk. In addition, among those individuals with poor sleep quality, smoking increased the lung cancer incidence risk.

Abstract
Objective The study aimed to determine the post-operative prevalence and factors associated to poor sleep quality in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in China. Methods NSCLC patients (n=307) who underwent thoracoscopic surgery at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital were enrolled in this study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Prince Henry Hospital Pain Score and the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV-1) were used to assess the factors that could lead to poor sleep quality. All assessments were carried out between April 1 and May 30, 2023. Descriptive analyses and stepwise factor regression were employed to determine the impact of various factors on sleep quality. The factors predictive of poor sleep quality were used to develop a predictive nomogram. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test was used to assess the predictive value of the nomogram. Results The median PQSI score was 8 (interquartile range (IQR) 5-12), and 74.6% of patients had poor sleep quality. The median anxiety and depression scores were 6 (IQR 3-9) and 4 (IQR 2-7), respectively. The PSQI latency dimension had the highest score, while the use of sleep medications dimension had the lowest score. The multivariate analysis revealed that patients who were female (OR, 2.38; 95% CI, 1.40-4.05; P <0.01), had post-secondary education (OR, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.19-0.92; P =0.03), tertiary education (OR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.17-0.84; P =0.02), comorbidities (OR, 2.57; 95% CI, 1.51-4.39; P <0.01), a pain score 1 (OR, 4.22; 95% CI, 2.37-7.50; P <0.01), and cough (OR, 2.97; 95% CI, 1.63-5.40; P <.001) were more like to experience poor sleep quality. The positive predictive value of the nomogram was 79.80% (p=0.390). Conclusion Sociodemographic variables, comorbidities, and pain could be used to predict the post-operative sleep quality in NSCLC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anxiety and sleep disturbance are frequent symptoms during chemotherapy. OBJECTIVES Purposes were to identify subgroups of oncology outpatients with distinct joint anxiety and sleep disturbance profiles, as well as evaluate for differences in demographic and clinical characteristics, sleep disturbance characteristics, severity of common symptoms, and quality-of-life outcomes among these subgroups. METHODS Oncology outpatients (n = 1331) completed self-report measures of anxiety and sleep disturbance 6 times over 2 chemotherapy cycles. Latent profile analysis was done to identify subgroups of patients with distinct joint anxiety and sleep disturbance profiles. RESULTS Three profiles were identified (ie, no anxiety and low sleep disturbance (59.7%), moderate anxiety and high sleep disturbance (32.5%), high anxiety and very high sleep disturbance (7.8%)). Compared with the no anxiety and low sleep disturbance class, the other 2 classes were younger; less likely to be married; had a lower annual household income; and had childcare responsibilities. Patients in the 2 worse profiles had problems with both sleep initiation and maintenance. These patients reported higher levels of depressive symptoms, trait and state anxiety, and evening fatigue, as well as lower levels of morning and evening energy, cognitive function, and poorer quality of life. CONCLUSIONS More than 40% of patients had moderate or high levels of anxiety and high or very high levels of sleep disturbance. Modifiable risk factors associated with these profiles may be used to develop targeted interventions for 1 or both symptoms. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Clinicians need to assess for the co-occurrence of anxiety and sleep disturbance.

Abstract
Background: Fatigue is the most common symptom among cancer survivors. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) may occur at any point in the cancer care continuum. Multiple factors contribute to CRF development and severity, including cancer type, treatments, presence of other symptoms, comorbidities, and medication side effects. Clinically, increasing physical activity, enhancing sleep quality, and recognizing sleep disorders are integral to managing CRF. Unfortunately, CRF is infrequently recognized, evaluated, or treated in lung cancer survivors despite more frequent and severe symptoms than in other cancers. Therefore, increased awareness and understanding of CRF are needed to improve health-related quality of life in lung cancer survivors. Objectives: 1) To identify and prioritize knowledge and research gaps and 2) to develop and prioritize research questions to evaluate mechanistic, diagnostic, and therapeutic approaches to CRF among lung cancer survivors. Methods: We convened a multidisciplinary panel to review the available literature on CRF, focusing on the impacts of physical activity, rehabilitation, and sleep disturbances in lung cancer. We used a three-round modified Delphi process to prioritize research questions. Results: This statement identifies knowledge gaps in the 1) detection and diagnostic evaluation of CRF in lung cancer survivors; 2) timing, goals, and implementation of physical activity and rehabilitation; and 3) evaluation and treatment of sleep disturbances and disorders to reduce CRF. Finally, we present the panel's initial 32 research questions and seven final prioritized questions. Conclusions: This statement offers a prioritized research agenda to 1) advance clinical and research efforts and 2) increase awareness of CRF in lung cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with cancer frequently reported sleep problems during their treatments which can affect their sleep quality have an impact on patients' quality of life (QOL). OBJECTIVE to assess the prevalence of sleep quality and associated factors in adult cancer patients on treatment in the Oncology unit of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021. METHODS institutional-based cross-sectional study design was used and data was collected by using face-to-face structured interview questionnaires from March 1 to April 1, 2021. Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) consisted of 19 items, the social support scale (OSS-3) consisted of 3 items, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) consisted of 14 items were applied. Logistic regression including bivariate and multivariate analysis was done to examine the association between dependent and independent variables, and P< 0.05 was considered the level of significance for associations. RESULTS A total of 264 sampled adult cancer patients on treatments were included in this study, with a response rate of 93.61%. About 26.5% of the participants' age distribution was between 40 to 49 years, and 68.6% were female. 59.8% of the study participants were married. Concerning education, about 48.9% of participants attended primary and secondary school and 45% of participants were unemployed. Overall, 53.79% of individuals had poor sleep quality. Low income ((AOR=5.36 CI 95% (2.23, 12.90), fatigue (AOR=2.89 CI 95(1.32, 6.33), pain (AOR 3.82 C I95 % (1.84, 7.93), poor of social support (AOR =3.20 CI 95% (1.43, 6.74), anxiety (AOR=3.48 CI 95% (1.44, 8.38) and depression (AOR 2.87 CI 95 % (1.05-7.391) were all associated with poor sleep quality. CONCLUSION This study revealed a high prevalence of poor sleep quality, which was significantly associated with factors like low income, fatigue, pain, poor social support, anxiety, and depression among cancer patients on treatments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Fatigue is a common, debilitating symptom experienced by individuals with chronic disease. Avoidance, or the act of evading unwanted experiences, is associated with fatigue across chronic disease samples. The current study sought to determine the strength of association between fatigue severity and avoidance in individuals with chronic disease. METHODS PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses databases were searched. Eligible studies measured fatigue and avoidance in chronic disease samples. Sixty-six studies were included. Data analyses were conducted in Rstudio. A random effects model was employed, and a weighted mean effect size was computed for fatigue severity and avoidance. Mixed-effects meta-regression analyses were conducted to examine moderating variables, including patient, clinical, and measurement characteristics. Publication bias was examined using funnel plot, trim-and-fill, and p-curve. RESULTS The meta-analysis comprised of 71 unique patient samples from 66 studies. The total number of included participants was 13,024. A small, positive association was found between fatigue severity and avoidance, r(71) = 0.22, p < .001, 95% CI [0.18-0.27], SE = 0.02. There was also significant heterogeneity, Q(70) = 349.96, p < .001. Moderator analyses examining age, sex, illness duration, avoidance type, and disease sample were all non-significant. Regarding publication bias, trim-and-fill resulted in a modified weighted mean effect size (r(83) = 0.18, p < .001) and a p-curve analysis supported the evidential value of the current analysis. CONCLUSION Findings support that among individuals with chronic disease, fatigue severity and avoidance are positively associated, which has implications for behavioral interventions in this population.

Abstract
Good health is the most important and very necessary characteristic for stress-free, skillful, and hardworking people with a cooperative environment to create a sustainable society. Validating two algorithms, namely, sequential minimal optimization for regression (SMOreg) using vector machine and linear regression (LR) and using their predicted cancer patients' cases, this study presents a patient's stress estimation model (PSEM) to forecast their families' stress for patients' sustainable health and better care with early management by under-study cancer hospitals. The year-wise predictions (1998-2010) by LR and SMOreg are verified by comparing with observed values. The statistical difference between the predictions (2021-2030) by these models is analyzed using a statistical t-test. From the data of 217067 patients, patients' stress-impacting factors are extracted to be used in the proposed PSEM. By considering the total population of under-study areas and getting the predicted population (2021-2030) of each area, the proposed PSEM forecasts overall stress for expected cancer patients (2021-2030). Root mean square error (RMSE) (1076.15.46) for LR is less than RSME for SMOreg (1223.75); hence, LR remains better than SMOreg in forecasting (2011-2020). There is no significant statistical difference between values (2021-2030) predicted by LR and SMOreg (p value = 0.767 > 0.05). The average stress for a family member of a cancer patient is 72.71%. It is concluded that under-study areas face a minimum of 2.18% stress, on average 30.98% stress, and a maximum of 94.81% overall stress because of 179561 expected cancer patients of all major types from 2021 to 2030.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cancer-related psychological disorders (CRPD) with high incidence are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Although, some studies suggested that acupuncture and moxibustion (AM) are effective and safe for CRPD, lacking strong evidence, for instance, the relevant systematic review, meta-analysis, and randomized control trial (RCT) of a large sample, multicenter, makes the effects and safety remain uncertain. The aim of protocol is to evaluating the RCTs of AM for CRPD to verify the association of AM with the improvement of CRPD. METHODS AND ANALYSIS Eight electric databases (4 English databases and 4 Chinese databases) will be searched from inception to Mar. 2022. There will be no restrictions on the category of the language. The RCTs of AM for CRPD unlimited to any type of cancer will be included. Depression and anxiety scores will be the primary outcome indicators. Two researchers will independently complete study selection, evaluate the risk of bias, and extract the data. The RevMan 5.2 software will be used to conduct data synthesis using the random-effects model. The weighted mean differences or standardized mean differences with 95% CIs will be used to present the results of measurement data, and the risk ratios with 95% CIs will be used to express the counting data. Additionally, we will use the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation to assess evidence quality. MAIN RESULTS The results of the meta-analysis will be presented with tables and figures. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The results of this meta-analysis and meta-regression will be disseminated via publication in peer-reviewed journals and will be published at relevant conferences. The data to be used will not contain individual patient data; therefore, there is no need to worry about patient privacy. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42020177219.

Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of eye movement training on sleep quality of patients with advanced lung cancer based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Methods 120 advanced lung cancer patients admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to January 2020 were selected as the research object and divided into group A (PSQI scores ≥ 10 points, n = 60) and group B (PSQI < 10 points, n = 60). Routine nursing was performed to both groups, and patients in group A received the eye movement training additionally, so as to compare their PSQI scores, negative emotion scores, adverse reaction rate (ARR), Cancer Coping Modes Questionnaire (CCMQ) scores, and pain scores. Results After training, group A obtained significantly better sleep quality (P < 0.05), lower negative emotion scores (P < 0.001), lower ARR (P < 0.05), better CCMQ scores (P < 0.05), and lower pain scores (P < 0.001) than group B. Conclusion Eye movement training should be promoted in practice because it can reduce negative emotions, alleviate pain sensation, improve sleep quality and body condition, and lower the ARR for advanced lung cancer patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients have severe symptom burden after oesophagectomy; however, longitudinal studies of symptom recovery after surgery are scarce. This study used longitudinal patient-reported outcome (PRO)-based symptoms to identify severe symptoms and profile symptom recovery from surgery in patients undergoing oesophagectomy. METHODS Oesophageal cancer patients (N = 327) underwent oesophagectomy were consecutively included between April 2019 and March 2020. Data were extracted from the Sichuan Cancer Hospital's Esophageal Cancer Case Management Registration Database. Symptom assessment time points were pre-surgery and 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21, 30, and 90 days post-surgery using the Chinese version of the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory. And each symptom was rated on an 11-point scale, with 0 being 'not present' and 10 being 'as bad as you can imagine'. The symptom recovery trajectories were profiled using mixed effect models and Kaplan-Meier analysis. RESULTS The most-severe symptoms on day 1 after oesophagectomy were pain, fatigue, dry mouth, disturbed sleep, and distress. The severity of symptoms peaked on day 1 after surgery. The top two symptoms were fatigue (mean: 5.44 [SD 1.88]) and pain (mean: 5.23 [SD 1.29]). Fatigue was more severe 90 days after surgery than at baseline (mean: 1.77 [SD 1.47] vs 0.65 [SD 1.05]; P < .0001). Disturbed sleep and distress persisted from pre-surgery to 90 days post-surgery; average sleep recovery time was up to 20 days, and 50.58% of patients had sleep disturbances 90 days post-surgery. CONCLUSIONS Early post-operative pain management after oesophagectomy should be considered. Characteristics and intervention strategies of post-operative fatigue, distress, and disturbed sleep in oesophageal cancer patients warrant further studies.

Abstract
AIM To assess the prevalence of insomnia and possible associated factors in patients with advanced lung cancer admitted to different settings of palliative care. METHODS Secondary analysis of a consecutive sample of patients with advanced lung cancer receiving palliative care. Epidemiological and clinical data, treatments received in the last month, Karnofsky status, Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS), Athens Insomnia Scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), as well as concomitant medical treatment were recorded. RESULTS One-hundred-eight-two patients with advanced lung cancer were surveyed. The mean age was 69.9 years (SD 10.8), and 121 patients (66%) were men. The majority of patients showed consistent levels of insomnia. A poor Karnofsky level, pain, nausea, and drowsiness, time from diagnosis (1-3 years), HADS anxiety, and HADS depression, were positively associated with insomnia. CONCLUSIONS About 50% of patients with advanced lung cancer admitted to palliative care services had relevant insomnia. Several factors associated with insomnia have been identified and should prompt physicians for a careful examination and subsequent treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disorder is one of the most common problems in cancer patients involved in chemotherapy stages, which is caused by the side effects of anticancer drugs and the exacerbation of mental disorders. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of sleep health education on sleep quality of cancer patients during chemotherapy stages. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this clinical trial, 70 cancer patients were selected in the chemotherapy phase and divided into two groups of 35. In the intervention group, two 60-min training sessions on sleep hygiene were educated, solutions of coping with the exacerbation of sleep disturbances were determined, and routine care was provided in the control group. Patients were evaluated for sleep disorders before and 1 and 3 weeks after the intervention by the Pittsburgh questionnaire and then the effect of this intervention compared between the two groups. RESULTS The mean score of sleep medication consumption in the intervention group was not significantly different between the three times (P = 0.59), but the mean score of total sleep quality disorder and its other dimensions was significantly different between the three time points (P < 0.05). Least significant difference post hoc test showed that the mean total score of sleep quality disorder and its dimensions except using sleep medication 1 week after the intervention was significantly less than before the intervention and 3 weeks after the intervention <1 week after the intervention in the intervention group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Sleep health education for cancer patients involved in chemotherapy can significantly have a positive effect on improving their sleep quality.

Abstract
Background
Sleep hygiene is a series of behavioral practices that can be performed by individuals with sleep complaints to prevent or reverse sleep difficulties. The feasibility, cost-effectiveness, absence of side effects and immediate responses to sleep problems make sleep hygiene practices more applicable than other treatment options for people living with HIV/AIDS. However, there is no evidence regarding sleep hygiene awareness and its practice in people with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia.
Objectives
This study aimed to assess the knowledge, practice and correlates of sleep hygiene among adults attending outpatient anti-retroviral treatment at Zewditu Memorial Hospital.
Methods
This was an institutional based cross-sectional study conducted from 1st of May to 16th of June 2018 amongst people attending anti-retroviral therapy follow-up at Zewditu Memorial Hospital. Systematic random sampling technique was used to recruit a total of 396 study participants. Data were collected using interviewer-administered questionnaire. The Sleep Hygiene Index was used to measure the level of sleep hygiene of study participants. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify factors associated with sleep hygiene practice. In the multi-variable analysis, variables with P-values of less than 0.05 were considered as significant correlates of sleep hygiene practice with 95% confidence interval.
Results
The findings of this study showed that there are limitations regarding the knowledge and practice of sleep hygiene of people with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. None of the participants attended training regarding sleep hygiene. More than half (51.3%) had poor sleep hygiene practice. Female sex [AOR = 5.80:95% CI (3.12, 10.7)], being single [AOR =2.29:95% CI (0.13, 9.51)], depression [AOR = 2.93: 95% CI (1.73, 4.96)] and current khat use [AOR = 3.30; 95% CI (1.67, 6.50)] were identified as statistically significant correlates of poor sleep hygiene practice.
Conclusions
Knowledge regarding sleep hygiene is poor, and its practices are incorrect amongst people living with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. These findings demonstrate a need for professionals to play a major role in addressing this problem by integrating sleep hygiene as an added treatment modality to the HIV/AIDS care service. Designing training programs and awareness creation strategies for people with HIV/AIDS to improve their sleep hygiene practice is also highly recommended.
