A Facile Synthesis of Urchin‐Like ZnMn 2 O 4 Architectures with Enhanced Electrochemical Lithium Storage

Regulating the kinetics of zinc-ion migration in spinel ZnMn2O4 through iron doping boosted aqueous zinc-ion storage performance

Spinel ZnMn₂O₄ with a three-dimensional channel structure is one of the important cathode materials for aqueous zinc ions batteries (AZIBs). However, like other manganese-based materials, spinel ZnMn₂O₄ also has problems such as poor conductivity, slow reaction kinetics and structural instability under long cycles. Herein, ZnMn₂O₄ mesoporous hollow microspheres with metal ion doping were prepared by a simple spray pyrolysis method and applied to the cathode of aqueous zinc ion battery. Cation doping not only introduces defects, changes the electronic structure of the material, improves its conductivity, structural stability, and reaction kinetics, but also weakens the dissolution of Mn²⁺. The optimized 0.1 % Fe-doped ZnMn₂O₄ (0.1% Fe-ZnMn₂O₄) has a capacity of 186.8 mAh g^-1 after 250 charge-discharge cycles at 0.5 A g^-1 and the discharge specific capacity reaches 121.5 mAh g^-1 after 1200 long cycles at 1.0 A g^-1. The theoretical calculation results show that doping causes the change of electronic state structure, accelerates the electron transfer rate, and improves the electrochemical performance and stability of the material.

Regulating the Electronic Configuration of Spinel Zinc Manganate Derived from Metal-Organic Frameworks: Controlled Synthesis and Application in Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries

In recent years, transition metal oxides have been considered as the most promising anode materials due to their high theoretical capacity, low price, and abundant natural reserves. Among them, zinc manganate is used as an electrode material for anodes, whose application is mostly hindered due to its poor ionic/electronic conductivity. In this work, a series of ZnMn₂O₄ (ZMO) are synthesized by a hydrothermal technique coordinated with a metal-organic framework-based high-temperature calcination process for their application as an anode in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Meanwhile, this study systematically explores the influence of carbon doping and the types of organic ligands and oxygen vacancies on the electrochemical properties of the synthesized ZMO. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental investigations reveal that the introduction of carbon and oxygen vacancies can enhance electronic conductivity, more active sites and faster Li⁺ adsorption, resulting in better electrochemical performances. As expected, all ZMOs with carbon doping (PMA-ZMO, MI-ZMO, and BDC-ZMO) derived from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, 2-methylimidazole, and 1,4-dicarboxybenzene achieve outstanding electrochemical performance. Meanwhile, the introduction of oxygen vacancies can enhance the electronic conductivity and can significantly reduce the activation energy of Li⁺ transport, thereby accelerating the Li⁺ diffusion kinetics in the lithiation/delithiation process. Furthermore, an optimal ZMO anode material synthesized by 2-methylimidazole delivers a high reversible capacity of 1174.7 mA h g^-1 after 300 cycles at 0.1 A g^-1 and 600 mA h g^-1 at 0.5 A g^-1 after 300 cycles. After high-rate charge and discharge cycles, the specific capacity rapidly recovers to a value greater than the initial value, which proves the unusual activation and thereby an excellent rate property of the electrode. Hence, we conclude that ZMO provides potential application prospects as an anode electrode material for LIBs.

A novel platform based on CoMn2O4-rGO/1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride modified carbon paste electrode for voltammetric detection of pethidine in the presence morphine and olanzapine

The present work focuses on the development of a new electrochemical platform based on CoMn₂O₄-rGO/1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride modified carbon paste electrode (CoMn₂O₄-rGO/IL/CPE) for electrochemical determination of pethidine in the presence of biological species. For the first time, the electrooxidation mechanism of pethidine in presences of morphine and olanzapine is investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technologies. The as-synthesized CoMn₂O₄-rGO nanocomposites are characterized by physicochemical measurements such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The obtained results illustrated synergistic interactions between rGO and CoMn₂O₄ structures. Also, to investigate the electrode charge-transfer resistances, electrochemical features of the resulting nanocomposites are studied via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis. Based on the result, three segmented linear ranges are observed over the range 0.08-900 μM and detection limit of 0.024 μM. Over the 10.0-40.0 μM ranges of pethidine in phosphate buffer solution (PBS-pH 7.0), suitable diffusion coefficient of 5.67 × 10^-7 cm² s^-1 is evaluated by chronoamperometry technique (CHA). Finally, the CoMn₂O₄-rGO/IL/CPE with high sensitivity, selectivity and repeatability is successfully used for determination of pethidine in real sample and drug formulation.

Progress in Preparation of Sea Urchin-like Micro-/Nanoparticles

Urchin-like microparticles/nanoparticles assembled from radial nanorods have a good appearance and high specific surface area, providing more exposed active sites and shortening the diffusion path of photoexcited carriers from the interior to the surface. The interfacial interaction and physical and chemical properties of the materials can be improved by the interfacial porous network induced by interlacing nano-branches. In addition, multiple reflections of the layered microstructure can absorb more incident light and improve the photocatalytic performance. Therefore, the synthesis and functionalization of three-dimensional urchin-like nanostructures with controllable size, shape, and hierarchy have attracted extensive attention. This review aims to provide an overview to summarize the structures, mechanism, and application of urchin-like microparticles/nanoparticles derived from diverse synthesis methods and decoration types. Firstly, the synthesis methods of solid urchin-like micro-/nanoparticles are listed, with emphasis on the hydrothermal/solvothermal method and the reaction mechanism of several typical examples. Subsequently, the preparation method of composite urchin-like micro-/nanoparticles is described from the perspective of coating and doping. Then, the research progress of urchin-like hollow microspheres is reviewed from the perspective of the step-by-step method and synchronous method, and the formation mechanism of forming urchin-like hollow microspheres is discussed. Finally, the application progress of sea urchin-like particles in the fields of photocatalysis, electrochemistry, electromagnetic wave absorption, electrorheological, and gas sensors is summarized.
