Abstract
To conduct organic synthesis in the field of pharmaceutical science, methodologies that can easily and quickly supply compounds with high drug-likeness are highly desirable. Based on the original catalyst design concept "Radical-Conjugated Redox Catalysis (RCRC)" established during my research, various C(sp3)-H functionalizations and protein modifications have been developed, taking advantage of the high reactivity and chemoselectivity of the single-electron transfer process. This review focuses on the eight-year research efforts by my collaborators and me, from conception to results.

Abstract
The first synthesis of the chromanone lactone dimer gonytolide A has been achieved employing vanadium(V)-mediated oxidative coupling of the monomer gonytolide C. An o-bromine blocking group strategy was employed to favor para- para coupling and to enable kinetic resolution of (±)-gonytolide C. Asymmetric conjugate reduction enabled practical kinetic resolution of a chiral, racemic precursor and the asymmetric synthesis of (+)-gonytolide A and its atropisomer.

Abstract
The observation of an unexpected oxidative rearrangement coupling reaction led to the development of a novel method for the efficient functionalization of tetrahydro-β-carbolines (THβCs). The treatment of THβCs with photogenerated singlet oxygen (1 O2 ) afforded unstable dioxetanes, which underwent further transformation to form new bonds in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. This operationally simple protocol exhibits broad functional-group tolerance and is suitable for the late-stage functionalization of complex druglike molecules.
