Abstract
A novel series of alkaline earthides containing eight complexes based upon 36adz complexant are designed by placing carefully transition metals (V-Zn) on inner side and alkaline earth metal outer side of the complexant i.e., M+(36adz) Be- (M+ = V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn). All the designed compounds are electronically and thermodynamically stable as evaluated by their interaction energy and vertical ionization potential respectively. Moreover, the true nature of alkaline earthides is verified through NBOs and FMO study, showing negative charge and excess electrons on alkaline earth metal respectively. Furthermore, true alkaline earthides characteristics are evaluated graphically by spectra of partial density state (PDOS). The energy gap (HOMO -LUMO gap) is very small (ranging 2.95 eV-1.89 eV), when it is compared with pure cage 36adz HOMO-LUMO gap i.e., 8.50 eV. All the complexes show a very small value of transition energy ranging from 1.68eV to 0.89eV. Also, these possess higher hyper polarizability values up to 2.8 x 105au (for Co+(36adz) Be-). Furthermore, an increase in hyper polarizability was observed by applying external electric field on complexes. The remarkable increase of 100fold in hyper polarizability of Zn+(36adz) Be- complex is determined after application of external electric field i.e., from 1.7 x 104 au to 1.7 x 106 au when complex is subjected to external electric field of 0.001 au strength. So, when external electric field is applied on complexes it enhances the charge transfer, polarizability and hyper polarizability of complexes and proves to be effective for designing of true alkaline earthides with remarkable NLO response.

Abstract
In the ongoing pursuit of novel and efficient NLO materials, the potential of alkali metal-doped {6}cycloparaphenylene ({6}CPP) and methylene bridged {6} cycloparaphenylene (MB{6}CPP) nanohoops as excellent NLO candidates has been explored. The geometric, electronic, linear, and nonlinear optical properties of designed systems have been investigated theoretically. All the nanohoops demonstrated thermodynamic stability, with remarkable interaction energies reaching up to -1.39 eV (-0.0511 au). Notably, the introduction of alkali metals led to a significant reduction in the HOMO-LUMO energy gaps, with values as low as 2.92 eV, compared to 6.80 eV and 6.06 eV for undoped {6}CPP and MB{6}CPP, respectively. Moreover, the alkali metal-doped nanohoops exhibited exceptional NLO response, with the K@r6-{6}CPP complex achieving the highest first hyperpolarizability of 56,221.7 × 10-30 esu. Additionally, the frequency-dependent first hyperpolarizability values are also computed at two commonly used wavelengths of 1550 nm and 1907 nm, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of designed nanohoops as promising candidates for advanced NLO materials with high-tech applications.

A three orders of magnitude increase in nonlinear optical response by external electric field on Cryptand[2.2.2] (C222) based alkaline earthides. Heliyon 2023; 9:e17610. Abstract
A new series of alkaline earthides based on Cryptand [2.2.2] (C222) containing nine complexes is designed by carefully placing alkali metals and alkaline earth metals inside and outside the C222 complexant, respectively i.e., M1(C222)M2 (M1 = Li, Na, K; M2 = Be, Mg, Ca). The designed complexes are reasonably stable both electronically and thermodynamically, as revealed through their vertical ionization potentials (VIPs) and interaction energies, respectively. Moreover, the true alkaline earthide nature of the complexes is confirmed through NBO and FMO analyses showing the negative charges and HOMOs over the alkaline earth metals, respectively. The further validity of true earthide characteristic is represented graphically by the spectra of partial density of states (PDOS). HOMO-LUMO gaps of the compounds are also very small (from 2.23 to 2.83 eV) when compared with pure cage's (C222) H-L gap i.e., 5.63 eV. All these features award these complexes with very small values of transition energies (ΔE) ranging from 0.68 to 2.06 eV ultimately resulting in remarkably high hyperpolarizability values up to 2.7 × 105 au (for Na+(C222)Mg-). Furthermore, applying external electric field (EEF) on the complexes enhances hyperpolarizability further. A remarkable increase of 1000 folds has been seen when hyperpolarizability of K+(C222)Ca- is calculated after EEF application i.e., from 8.79 × 104 au to 2.48 × 107 au; when subjected to 0.001 au external electric field.

Abstract
Ion trap quantum computing utilizes electronic states of atomic ions such as Ca+ to encode information on to a qubit. To explore the fundamental properties of Ca+ inside molecular cavities, we describe here a computational study of Ca+ bound inside neutral [n]-cycloparaphenylenes (n = 5-12), often referred to as "nanohoops". This ab initio study characterizes optimized structures, harmonic vibrational frequencies, potential energy surfaces, and ion molecular orbital distortion as functions of increasing nanohoop size. The results of this work provide a first step in guiding experimental studies of the spectroscopy of these ion-molecular cavity complexes.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of the bis(η6 -benzene)lithium cation, the benzene metallocene of the lightest metal, is reported. The boron compound FmesBCl2 [Fmes: 2,4,6-tris(trifluoromethyl)phenyl] reacted with three molar equivalents of the lithio-acetylene reagent Li-C≡C-Fmxyl [Fmxyl: 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]. Subsequent crystallization from benzene gave the [bis(η6 -benzene)Li]+ cation with the [{FmesB(-C≡C-Fmxyl)3 }2 Li]- anion. This parent [(arene)2 Li]+ cation shows an eclipsed arrangement of the pair of benzene ligands at the central lithium cation with uniform carbon-lithium bond lengths. The corresponding [(η6 -toluene)2 Li]+ and [(η6 -durene)2 Li]+ containing salts were similarly prepared. The bis(arene)lithium cations were characterized by X-ray diffraction, by solid-state 7 Li MAS NMR spectroscopy and their bonding features were analyzed by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Understanding how lithium interacts with complex biosystems is crucial for uncovering the roles of this alkali metal in biology and designing extraction techniques for battery production and environmental remediation. In this light, fundamental information about Li+ binding to nucleic acids is required. Herein, a new database of Li+-nucleic acid interactions is presented that contains CCSD(T)/CBS benchmark energies for all nucleobase and phosphate binding locations. Furthermore, the performance of 54 DFT functionals in combination with three triple-zeta (TZ) basis sets (6-311+G(3df,2p), aug-cc-pVTZ, and def2-TZVPP) is tested. The results identify a range of functionals across different families (B2-PLYP, PBE-QIDH, ωB97, ωB97X-D, MN15, B3PW91, B97-2, TPSS, BP86-D3(BJ), and PBE) that can accurately describe coordinated Li+-nucleic acid interactions, with the average mean percent error (AMPE) across binding positions and basis sets being below 2%. Nevertheless, only three functionals tested (B2-PLYP, PBE-QIDH, and ωB97X-D) preserve this accuracy for metal cation-π interactions, suggesting that caution is warranted when choosing a functional to describe a diverse range of Li+-nucleic acid complexes. Removal of counterpoise corrections has very little impact on the reliability of most functionals, while the effect of empirical dispersion corrections varies depending on the functional choice and interaction type. While increasing the basis set to quadruple-zeta quality had little impact on the AMPE, the accuracy of double-zeta basis sets varies with family. Importantly, DFT methods reproduce the CCSD(T)/CBS trend in the preferred binding position for a given nucleic acid component and the global trend across components (phosphate ≫ G > C ≫ A ∼ T = U), as well as the geometries of the metal-nucleic acid complexes. The overall top performing functional is PBE-QIDH, which results in deviations from CCSD(T)/CBS values as small as ∼0.1 kcal/mol for nucleobase contacts and ∼1 kcal/mol for phosphate interactions. The most accurate DFT methods identified in the present work are recommended for future investigations of lithium interactions in larger nucleic acid systems to provide insights into the biological roles of this metal and the design of novel biosensing strategies.

Abstract
A collection of five challenging datasets, including noncovalent interactions, reaction barriers and electronic rearrangements of medium-sized hydrocarbons, has been selected to verify the robustness of double-hybrid functionals used in conjunction with the small DH-SVPD basis set, especially developed for noncovalent interactions. The analysis is completed by other, more standard functionals, for a total of 17 models, including also empirical corrections for dispersion. The obtained results show that the chemical accuracy threshold, that is an error lower than 1.0 kcal mol−1, can be obtained by pairing the nonempirical PBE-QIDH functional with the DH-SVPD basis set, as well as by other semi-empirical functionals, such as DSD-PBEP86, using larger basis sets and empirical corrections. More in general, a significant improvement can be obtained using the DH-SVPD basis set with DHs, without resorting to any empirical corrections. This choice leads to a fast computational protocol that, avoiding any empirical potential, remains on a fully quantum ground. The pairing of the PBE-QIDH double-hybrid functional with a tailored split-valence basis set leads to a fast computational protocol for the accurate evaluation of hydrocarbon thermochemistry, without resorting to any empirical correction.![]()

Abstract
We recently derived a new and simple route to the determination of the range-separation parameter in range-separated exchange hybrid and double-hybrid density functionals by imposing an additional constraint to the exchange-correlation energy to recover the total energy of the hydrogen atom [Brémond et al., J. Chem. Phys. 15, 201102 (2019)]. Here, we thoroughly assess this choice by statistically comparing the derived values of the range-separation parameters to the ones obtained using the optimal tuning (OT) approach. We show that both approaches closely agree, thus, confirming the reliability of ours. We demonstrate that it provides very close performances in the computation of properties particularly prone to the one- and many-electron self-interaction errors (i.e., ionization potentials). Our approach arises as an alternative to the OT procedure, conserving the accuracy and efficiency of a standard Kohn-Sham approach to density-functional theory computation.

Abstract
Based on DFT calculations, we have explored the changes in geometric, electronic and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of M3O and M3S (M = Li, Na and K) doped graphdiyne. The doping of superalkalis not only changes the electronic properties of GDY but also remarkably alters the NLO properties. Stabilities of doped GDY are evaluated through interaction energies. HOMO-LUMO gap, NBO, polarizability and first hyperpolarizability (βo) calculations at hybrid (B3LYP) and long-range corrected methods (CAM-B3LYP, LC-BLYP and ωB97XD) are performed for studying the NLO properties of doped GDY complexes. Significantly high values of βo are observed for all doped structures, especially for Na3S@GDY (1.36×105 au). Reduction in HOMO-LUMO gap concomitant with increase of βo value is attributed to the strong interaction of Na3S with GDY. The partial density of states (PDOS) spectra strongly support the existence of excess electrons. To rationalize the trends in first hyperpolarizability of doped GDY, two level model calculations are also performed. This study of super alkalis doped GDY will be advantageous for promoting the potential applications of the nanostructures in designing new types of electronic nanodevices and production of high performance nonlinear optical materials.

Abstract
In this communication, we present a new and simple route to derive range-separated exchange (RSX) hybrid and double hybrid density functionals in a nonempirical fashion. In line with our previous developments [Brémond et al., J. Chem. Theory Comput. 14, 4052 (2018)], we show that by imposing an additional physical constraint to the exchange-correlation energy, i.e., by enforcing to reproduce the total energy of the hydrogen atom, we are able to generalize the nonempirical determination of the range-separation parameter to a family of RSX hybrid density functionals. The success of the resulting models is illustrated by an accurate modeling of several molecular systems and properties, like ionization potentials, particularly prone to the one- and many-electron self-interaction errors.

Abstract
On the basis of our previous developments in the field of nonempirical double hybrids, we present here a new exchange-correlation functional based on a range-separated model for the exchange part and integrating a nonlocal perturbative correction to the electron correlation contribution. Named RSX-QIDH, the functional is free from any kind of empirical parametrization. Its range-separation parameter is set to recover the total energy of the hydrogen atom, thus eliminating the self-interaction error for this one-electron system. Subsequent tests on some relevant benchmark data sets confirm that the self-interaction error is particularly low for RSX-QIDH. This new functional provides also correct dissociation profiles for charged rare-gas dimers and very accurate ionization potentials directly from Kohn-Sham orbital energies. Above all, these good results are not obtained at the expense of other properties. Indeed, further tests on standard benchmarks show that RSX-QIDH is competitive with the more empirical ωB97X-2 double hybrid and outperforms the parent LC-PBE long-range corrected hybrid, thus underlining the important role of the nonlocal perturbative correlation.

Abstract
Ground and excited state atomic polarizabilities of the chromophores N-methyl-6-oxyquinolinium betaine and coumarin 153 have been evaluated via quantum mechanics.
Ground and excited state dipoles and polarizabilities of the chromophores N-methyl-6-oxyquinolinium betaine (MQ) and coumarin 153 (C153) in solution have been evaluated using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). A method for determining the atomic polarizabilities has been developed; the molecular dipole has been decomposed into atomic charge transfer and polarizability terms, and variation in the presence of an electric field has been used to evaluate atomic polarizabilities. On excitation, MQ undergoes very site-specific changes in polarizability while C153 shows significantly less variation. We also conclude that MQ cannot be adequately described by standard atomic polarizabilities based on atomic number and hybridization state. Changes in the molecular polarizability of MQ (on excitation) are not representative of the local site-specific changes in atomic polarizability, thus the overall molecular polarizability ratio does not provide a good approximation for local atom-specific polarizability changes on excitation. Accurate excited state force fields are needed for computer simulation of solvation dynamics. The chromophores considered in this study are often used as molecular probes. The methods and data reported here can be used for the construction of polarizable ground and excited state force fields. Atomic and molecular polarizabilities (ground and excited states) have been evaluated over a range of functionals and basis sets. Different mechanisms for including solvation effects have been examined; using a polarizable continuum model, explicit solvation and via sampling of clusters extracted from a MD simulation. A range of different solvents have also been considered.

Abstract
Hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) is an important and very general phenomenon. H-bonding is part of the basis of life in DNA, key in controlling the properties of water and ice, and critical to modern applications such as crystal engineering, catalysis applications, pharmaceutical and agrochemical development. H-bonding also plays a significant role for many ionic liquids (IL), determining the secondary structuring and affecting key physical parameters. ILs exhibit a particularly diverse and wide range of traditional as well as non-standard forms of H-bonding, in particular the doubly ionic H-bond is important. Understanding the fundamental nature of the H-bonds that form within ILs is critical, and one way of accessing this information, that cannot be recovered by any other computational method, is through quantum chemical electronic structure calculations. However, an appropriate method and basis set must be employed, and a robust procedure for determining key structures is essential. Modern generalised solvation models have recently been extended to ILs, bringing both advantages and disadvantages. QC can provide a range of information on geometry, IR and Raman spectra, NMR spectra and at a more fundamental level through analysis of the electronic structure.
