Cystic Lymphangioma Over the Lower Limb: A Case Report With a Literature Review

Cystic lymphangioma (CL) is a rare congenital deformity that almost exclusively affects children. Among the incidences, the majority occur in the head and neck area. Adults who develop these lesions likely develop them as a result of trauma. Here, we present the case of an adult female with a CL in the right calf region. Over time, it continued to grow to a noticeable size. Surgical resection was a good management strategy for the patient. We conducted a literature survey in light of scarce reports depicting CL in the limbic area.

An Unusual Case of Thigh Swelling

Lymphangiomas are benign tumours, almost exclusively found in children. Primary work-up includes imaging. We report a case of lymphangioma in the leg in an adult patient, initially masked as a myxoma. Our patient underwent ultrasound, computerised tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, which were suggestive of myxoma. Treatment for lymphangioma varies from sclerotherapy to definitive surgical management. In our case, surgical management was selected under consideration of myxoma; however, histopathology confirmed lymphangioma. Lymphangiomas in adult patients can be masked by other conditions and should be considered as a differential in lower leg swellings.

Giant Lymphatic Malformations in Lower Extremity in an Adult: A Case Report

Lymphatic malformations are benign vascular malformations rarely seen in adults. There have been only around 100 cases reported in the literature, most of them located in the head and neck area. The etiology is poorly understood but trauma, infection, or tumors have been suggested as possible causes. We present an unusual case of lymphatic malformations in the lower extremity of a 56-year-old male patient after minor trauma. The masses were asymptomatic but progressively enlarged for a period of 2 months, developing into a mass with a 21-cm-long axis in computed tomography images. Total surgical resection was performed and there were no complications or recurrence during the 1-year follow-up period. We present this rare case with a review of relevant previous literatures.
