Abstract
Most of the artworks stored in museums are often kept in inappropriate climatic and environmental conditions that facilitate the formation and growth of microorganisms, such as fungi, which are responsible for many types of biodegradation phenomena. To mitigate and prevent these deteriorative processes, functionalized packaging materials can be used for the storage and handling of artworks. The aim of this study was to develop a potential anti-biodeterioration coating suitable for packaging purposes. TiO2 and ZnO doped with different amounts of Ag (0.5 wt%, 1 wt%, and 3 wt%) were synthesized and dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and acrylic resin (Paraloid B72), then applied on different types of packaging materials (cellulose and the high-density spunbound polyethylene fiber Tyvek®, materials that are frequently used as packaging in museums). Analytical investigations (SEM/EDS, Raman, FTIR, and XRD) were employed to assess dispersion on the packaging material. Furthermore, resistance against biodeteriogens was assessed using Cladosporium sp., a bioluminometer, to define the biocidal efficacy.

Abstract
The functional utilization of recycled polymers has emerged as a current prominent and timely subject. Flexible wearable devices with high sensitivity to conductivity have garnered significant attention in the fields of human healthcare monitoring and personal heat management. One significant obstacle that needs to be addressed is the simultaneous maintenance of both sensing functionality and durability in composite fabrics. In this paper, a collection of durable, breathable, and flexible smart fabric was produced using the scratch coating method. The fabrics were created by utilizing a regenerated polyethylene terephthalate fabric as a base material, incorporating graphene microsheets (G) as a conductive agent, and applying a waterborne polyurethane layer as a surface protective coating. Furthermore, an investigation was conducted to assess their sensing performance and electrothermal performance. The composite fabric exhibits significant advantages in terms of high conductivity (592 S/m), wide strain range, high sensitivity (Gauge factor = 6.04) and fantabulous dynamic stability (2000 cycles) at a mass ratio of Graphene/WPU loading of 8:2. These sensors were successfully utilized to monitor various degrees of real-time human body movements, ranging from significant deformation bending of elbows to slight deformation swallowing. Furthermore, the sensors also exhibit a significant electric heating effect. Specifically, when a voltage of 10 V is applied, the sensors can reach a steady state temperature of 53.3 °C within a mere 30 s. This discovery holds potential for the development of wearable heaters that can be used for on-demand thermal therapy, functional protective clothing, and medical electric heating wearables.

Abstract
In this paper, inorganic phosphate bonded coatings (IPBCs) via embedding reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified with heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetradecyl trimethoxysilane (FAS) were prepared through sol-gel method. Aim of this paper is to research the corrosion resistance of IPBCs with the addition of rGO modified with FAS. Firstly, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy (Raman) and surface morphology of GO and rGO modified with and without FAS were characterized. Results indicated that the hydrophobic -CF2- and -CF3 groups were successfully introduced into GO and rGO after modification. And IPBCs with rGO-FAS exhibited higher hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance than IPBCs with the addition of GO or GO-FAS. That is because the hydrophobicity and the introduction of low surface energy material is conducive to overcoming the interaction of rGO itself, thus rGO can be better utilized and played, which resulting the excellent corrosion performance of IPBC@rGO-FAS.

Abstract
A novel electrochemical immunosensor was developed for ultrasensitive determination of the hormone insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) based on immobilization of a specific monoclonal antibody on the electrospun nanofibers of Polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/Zein-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticle. The nanofibers deposited on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) showed good electrochemical behaviors with synergistic effects between PAN, Zein, and rGO. PAN/Zein nanofibers were used due to flexibility, high porosity, good mechanical strength, high specific surface area, and flexible structures, while rGO nanoparticles were used to improve the detection sensitivity and anti-IGF-1 immobilizing. Different characterization techniques were applied consisting of FE-SEM, FT-IR, and EDS for the investigation of morphological features and nanofiber size. The redox reactions of [Fe(CN)6]4-/3- on the modified electrode surface were probed for studying the immobilization and determination processes, using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Under optimal conditions, LOD (limit of detection) and LOQ (limit of quantification) were obtained as 55.72 fg/mL and 185.73 fg/mL respectively, and sensitivity was acquired 136.29 μA/cm2.dec. Moreover, a wide linear range was obtained ranging from 1 pg/mL to 10 ng/mL for IGF-1. Furthermore, the proposed method was applied for the analysis of IGF-1 in several human plasma samples with acceptable results, and it also exhibited high selectivity, stability, and reproducibility.

Abstract
The dual-signal probe utilizing functionalized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is a promising sensing tool. Herein, a novel colorimetric/fluorescent dual-signal probe (AgNPs-L-Cys-Rh6G2) was fabricated for copper ion (Cu2+) detection and cell imaging by using L-cysteine as a "bridge" to connect AgNPs and rhodamine 6G derivatives. The AgNPs-L-Cys-Rh6G2 probe exhibits a dual-signal response to Cu2+ due to Rh6G2 hydrolysis, resulting in a high fluorescence response and a significant change in color from light yellow to pink under sunlight. The linear detection ranges of the AgNPs-L-Cys-Rh6G2 probe for Cu2+ were 100-450 μM and 150-650 μM using fluorescent and colorimetry methods, respectively. The detection limits were as low as 0.169 μM and 1.36 μM, respectively. Meanwhile, the proposed probe was applied to detect Cu2+ in the actual sediment with satisfactory recovery and low relative standard deviation. Furthermore, the probe was further employed for fluorescence imaging in HeLa cells. In brief, the developed AgNPs-L-Cys-Rh6G2 sensing platform can be used for simultaneous Cu2+ determination and cell imaging.

Abstract
The detection of trace levels of organic residue in water samples is a key health issue. This manuscript describes the fabrication of integrated nano-sensors composed of electrospun microfibers consisting of a nanocomposite of carbonaceous materials (CNMs) containing polyaniline (PANI) and polycaprolactone (PCL) for phenolic detection in aqueous solutions. The morphology of the resulting microfiber composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. It revealed elongated fibers with a highly interconnected web-like pattern in the presence of reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Shorter microfibers were observed in the composite filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), whereas large agglomerates were formed upon the incorporation of single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) and graphene 300 (G300). Comparative analysis showed that the PANI/CNM sensors exhibited the best electrochemical properties, in particular in the presence of rGO and MWCNTs, where greater electrical conductivity was achieved, i.e., 4.33 × 10-3 and 7.22 × 10-4 S/cm, respectively, as compared to the PANI-PCL sensor (3.79 × 10-4 S/cm). All the PANI/CNM sensors exhibited high sensitivity. Notably, PANI/rGO was found to have a detection limit of 8.34 × 10-3 µM for aminophenol. All the sensors exhibited good selectivity in the presence of interference to detecting phenolic compounds in aqueous solutions, thus confirming their value for industrial applications.

Biochar-supported sulfurized nanoscale zero-valent iron facilitates extensive dechlorination and rapid removal of 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol in aqueous solution. CHEMOSPHERE 2023; 332:138835. [PMID: 37142104 DOI: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.138835] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/14/2022] [Revised: 04/21/2023] [Accepted: 04/30/2023] [Indexed: 05/06/2023]
Abstract
Nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) has been widely used in rapid remediation of contaminants. However, several obstacles such as aggregation and surface passivation hampered NZVI from further application. In this study, sulfurized nanoscale-zero valent iron supported by biochar (BC-SNZVI) was successfully synthesized and utilized for highly efficient 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) dechlorination in aqueous solution. SEM-EDS analysis revealed the even distribution of SNZVI on the surface of BC. FTIR, XRD, XPS and N2 Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) adsorption analyses were carried out to characterize the materials. Results showed that BC-SNZVI with S/Fe molar ratio of 0.088, Na2S2O3 as sulfurization agent, and pre-sulfurization as the sulfurization strategy exhibited the superior performance for 2,4,6-TCP removal. The overall removal of 2,4,6-TCP was well described with the pseudo-first-order kinetics (R2 > 0.9), and the observed kinetics constant Kobs was 0.083 min-1 with BC-SNZVI, which was one order of magnitude higher than that of BC-NZVI (0.0092 min-1) and SNZVI (0.0042 min-1), and two orders of magnitude higher than that of NZVI (0.00092 min-1). Moreover, the removal efficiency of 2,4,6-TCP reached 99.5% by BC-SNZVI with dosage of 0.5 g·L-1, initial 2,4,6-TCP concentration of 30 mg·L-1 and initial solution pH of 3 within 180 min. The removal of 2,4,6-TCP by BC-SNZVI was acid-promoted and the removal efficiencies of 2,4,6-TCP decreased with the increase of initial 2,4,6-TCP concentrations. Furthermore, more extensive dechlorination of 2,4,6-TCP was achieved with BC-SNZVI and complete dechlorination product phenol became predominant. The facilitation of sulfur for Fe0 utilization and electron distribution in the presence of biochar remarkably enhanced the dechlorination performance of BC-SNZVI for 2,4,6-TCP. These findings provide insights into BC-SNZVI as an alternative engineering carbon based NZVI material for treating chlorinated phenols.

Abstract
A new integration strategy of transition metal sulfide with carbon-based materials is used to boost its catalytic property and electrochemical performances in supercapacitor application. Herein, crystalline reduced graphene oxide (rGO) wrapped ternary metal sulfide nanorod composites with different rGO ratios are synthesized using hydrothermal technique and are compared for their physical, chemical, and electrochemical performances. It is found that their properties are tuned by the weight ratios of rGO. The electrochemical investigations reveal that β-NiCu2S/rGO nanocomposite electrode with 0.15 wt.% of rGO is found to possess maximum specific capacitance of 1583 F g-1 at current density of 15 mA g-1 in aqueous electrolyte medium. The same electrode shows excellent cycling stability with capacitance retention of 89% after 5000 charging/discharging cycles. The reproducibility test performed on NiCu2S/rGO nanocomposite electrode with 0.15 wt.% of rGO indicates that it has high reproducible capacitive response and rate capability. Thus, the present work demonstrates that the β-NiCu2S/rGO nanocomposite can serve as a potential electrode material for developing supercapacitor energy storage system.

Abstract
Mn-based oxides are efficient pseudocapacitive electrode materials and have been investigated for capacitive deionization (CDI). However, their poor conductivity seriously affects their desalination performance. In this work, polyaniline coated Mn2O3 nanorods (PANI/Mn2O3) are synthesized by oxidizing a Mn-based metal organic framework (MOF) and subsequent in-situ chemical polymerization. The polyaniline not only acts as a conductive network for faradaic reactions of Mn2O3, but also enhances the desalination rate. PANI/Mn2O3 has a specific capacitance of 87 F g-1 (at 1 A g-1), superior to that of Mn2O3 nanorod (52 F g-1 at 1 A g-1). The hybrid CDI cell constructed with a PANI/Mn2O3 cathode and an active carbon anode shows a high desalination capacity of 21.6 mg g-1, superior recyclability with only 11.3% desalination capacity decay after 30 desalination cycles and fast desalination rate of 2.2 mg g-1 min-1. PANI/Mn2O3 is a potential candidate for high performance CDI applications.

Abstract
High surface area and tunable pore size are beneficial for metal organic frameworks (MOFs) as electroactive material of energy storage devices. Novel ZIF67 derivative proposed in our previous work, nickel cobalt fluoride coupled with ammonia ions (NCNF), is synthesized using ammonia fluoride to solve poor electrical conductivity of MOFs. MXene is commonly incorporated in pseudo-capacitive materials to enhance electrical conductivity and energy storage ability. In this study, it is the first time to design MXene and NCNF composites (MXene/NCNF) with different MXene amounts via incorporating MXene in growing process of NCNF. MXene and NCNF are combined via self-assembly in a simple room temperature solution process. The optimized MXene/NCNF electrode shows a higher specific capacitance of 1020.0 F g-1 (170.0 mAh g-1) than that of NCNF electrode (574.2 F g-1 and 95.7 mAh g-1) at 20 mV s-1, due to excellent surface properties of MXene/NCNF with conductive network of MXene and high electrocapacitive performance of NCNF. A symmetric energy storage device composed of the optimized MXene/NCNF electrodes presents outstanding cycling stability with Coulombic efficiency of 100% during whole cycling process and a high capacitance retention of 99% after 6000 cycles. Excellent electrochemical performance and simple synthesis of MXene/NCNF open new blueprints for designing novel electrocapacitive materials for electrochemical applications.

Abstract
This work reports on a reduced graphene oxide and poly(aniline) composite (rGO-PANI), with rGO clusters inserted between PANI chains. These clusters were formed due the plasticizing effect of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent, which was added during the synthesis. Further, this composite was processed as thin film onto an interdigitated electrode array and used as the sensitive layer for ammonia gas, presenting sensitivity of 250% at 100 ppm, a response time of 97 s, and a lowest detection limit of 5 ppm. The PANI deprotonation process, upon exposure to NH3, rGO, also contributed by improving the sensitivity due its higher surface area and the presence of carboxylic acids. This allowed for the interaction between the hydrogen of NH3 (nucleophilic character) and the -COOH groups (electrophilic character) from the rGO surface, thereby introducing a promising sensing composite for amine-based gases.
