In diesem Artikel werden degenerative (Pterygium und Pinguecula) sowie benigne und maligne neoplastische Bindehautveränderungen (epitheliale, melanozytäre und vaskuläre Tumoren, Choristome sowie Metastasen) bezüglich der Pathogenese, Symptome, Diagnostik und aktuellem Stand der Behandlung dargestellt.

[Conjunctival Degeneration and Neoplasia]

Conjunctival tumors result from gain of tissue, which can be either degenerative or neoplastic, but also inflammatory. In this article, degenerative (pterygium and pinguecula) as well as benign and malignant neoplastic conjunctival changes (epithelial, melanocytic and vascular tumors, choristomas as well as metastases) are discussed with regard to pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnostics and current status of treatment.

A Case of Solitary Nonvascularized Corneal Epithelial Dysplasia

Background. Epithelial dysplasia is categorized as conjunctival/corneal intraepithelial neoplasia which is a precancerous lesion. The lesion is usually developed at the limbal region and grows towards central cornea in association with neovascularization into the lesion. Here, we report a case of isolated nonvascularized corneal epithelial dysplasia surrounded by normal corneal epithelium with immune histochemical finding of ocular surface tissues cytokeratins, for example, keratin 13 and keratin 12. Case Presentation. A 76-year-old man consulted us for visual disturbance with localized opacification of the corneal epithelium in his left eye. His visual acuity was 20/20 and 20/200 in his right and left eye, respectively. Slit lamp examination showed a whitish plaque-like lesion at the center of his left corneal epithelium. No vascular invasion to the lesion was found. The lesion was surgically removed and subjected to histopathological examination and diagnosed as epithelial dysplasia. Amyloidosis was excluded by direct fast scarlet 4BS (DFS) staining. Immunohistochemistry showed that the dysplastic epithelial cells express keratin 13 and vimentin, but not keratin 12, indicating that the neoplastic epithelial cells lacked corneal-type epithelium differentiation. Conclusions. The lesion was diagnosed as nonvascularized epithelial dysplasia of ocular surface. Etiology of the lesion is not known.

Isolated corneal papilloma-like lesion associated with human papilloma virus type 6

PURPOSE

To report a case of a corneal papilloma-like lesion associated with human papilloma virus type 6.

METHODS

A 48-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of ocular discomfort and gradual visual deterioration in her right eye. Ophthalmic examination revealed an elevated, semitranslucent, well-defined vascularized mass approximately 4 × 2.5 mm in size localized to the right cornea. The surface of the mass appeared smooth and many small, shallow, and irregular elevations were noted.

RESULTS

An excisional biopsy was performed. The underlying cornea was markedly thinned, and fine ramifying vasculature was also noted on the exposed corneal stroma. Typical koilocytic change was observed on the histopathologic examination. Polymerase chain reaction revealed the existence of human papilloma virus type 6 DNA.

CONCLUSIONS

Here we describe a case of an isolated corneal papilloma-like lesion. Although the corneal extension of the limbal or the conjunctival papillomas has been commonly observed, an isolated corneal papilloma-like lesion with underlying stromal destruction has only rarely been reported.
