Abstract
PURPOSE Sixty percent of breast cancer patients develop persistent upper limb pain and dysfunction, but only limited knowledge exists about how these symptoms relate to rehabilitation access. METHODS A postal survey was sent to patients treated at a London University Teaching Hospital (2018-2020). Data were collected on pain (Pain Detect), shoulder function (Disability of Shoulder Arm and Hand (DASH)), quality-of-life (QoL) (EQ-5D-5L), and clinical characteristics, including treatment and access to rehabilitation. The free-text section invited patients' comments on upper limb symptoms and management strategies, which were analysed thematically. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively, and the medians were examined with Mann-Whitley U-Tests or Kruskal-Wallis Test. RESULTS Of 511 patients surveyed, 162 (32 %) questionnaires were returned and analysed. Respondents' mean age was 62 years (SD 11.3). The majority had Sentinel Node Biopsy 71 % (116/162) and mastectomy 61 % (99/162). 73 % (119/162) reported pain. Mean (SD) Pain Detect and DASH Score were respectively 11.07 (7) and 21.7 (21.5), with 51 % recording significant shoulder dysfunction, and only 28 % reporting access to rehabilitation. Individuals with neuropathic pain had significantly higher median (range) DASH score 60.8 (35.8, 75.0) p = 0.000. Median DASH score for sedentary individuals was significantly higher 22.9 (7.9, 31.8) p = 0.0009. Free-text analysis revealed persistent, progressive symptoms, mixed attitudes towards exercise and variations in access to rehabilitation and support. CONCLUSION Two years following surgery many patients reported significant upper limb symptoms which adversely impact on QoL. However, approximately two thirds did not access potentially beneficial rehabilitation treatments. There is a need to improve pathways of care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND AIM Anti-cancer treatment imparts a variety of physical impairments that cause limitations in physical functioning among women with breast cancer. The aim of the study was to explore the opinions of healthcare professionals (HCPs) working with breast cancer patients on various aspects of physical functional impairments in breast cancer patients and survivors (BCP&S). METHODOLOGY The study was a cross-sectional survey. Taking into consideration the literature definition of 'physical function', its determinants, and literature published on relevant clinical factors in breast cancer, a survey questionnaire containing 29 questions was constructed. Thirty-seven HCPs, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical cancer experts, participated in the study. The participant's responses were obtained using a 5-point 'Agreement' Likert scale. Data analysis included a frequency table and the reliability test (Cronbach's alpha). RESULTS The reliability of the questionnaire used in the survey was found to be acceptable (Cronbach's alpha = 0.891). The majority of the participants were of the opinion that various parameters and determinants of 'physical function' get adversely affected in BCP&S, leading to limitations in the performance of activities of daily living (e.g., dressing and bathing), particularly in elderly and frail women. Participants agreed that such impairments in physical functioning affect social and role functioning and the overall quality of life (QoL) of women with breast cancer negatively. CONCLUSION This study found that various parameters and determinants of physical functioning are adversely affected in BCP&S, and physical functional impairments are prevalent in women with breast cancer, affecting their QoL negatively. Implications for breast cancer patients: This study points out the need for long-term surveillance of BCP&S for physical functional limitations and a proactive treatment approach to prevent such limitations.

Abstract
Background: Breast cancer surgeries affect the upper extremities and posture. This study aimed to examine the efficacy of muscle energy and Mulligan mobilization techniques on the upper extremities and posture after breast cancer surgery with axillary dissection. Methods: A total of 90 female participants who had undergone breast cancer surgery with axillary dissection were recruited and randomly assigned to three groups. Group A received a combination of the Mulligan and muscle energy techniques, while Groups B and C received either the Mulligan or muscle energy techniques for six weeks, respectively. The study measured the shoulders' range of motion, posture, and upper-extremity disabilities. Outcome measurements were taken at three different time points: baseline, post-intervention, and at eight-week follow-up. Results: All the interventions significantly improved the study outcomes. The combination of the Mulligan and muscle energy techniques was significantly better than a single intervention. Mulligan mobilization was superior to the muscle energy techniques in terms of improving the shoulders' range of motion and disability. The interventions showed a significant effect pre-post-treatment and pre-follow-up but not post-follow-up. Conclusions: The Mulligan mobilization and muscle energy techniques have been found beneficial in improving the postural changes and shoulder outcomes after breast cancer surgery with axillary dissection. The superior effectiveness of the combined interventions points out the importance of integrating multiple therapeutic approaches for optimal outcomes. Regular examination and long-term follow-up assessment are important for studying the effect of rehabilitation interventions in people after the late stages of breast surgery.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate mirror therapy (MT) influence on shoulder pain/disability and quality of life in mastectomy women. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty unilateral mastectomy women were recruited and randomly assigned to an MT group (N = 30) or a sham therapy (ST) (N = 30). Women in the MT and ST group attended a nurse-led, unsupervised, 30 min a day, five days a week, and at home training program for three weeks with and without a mirror, respectively. Shoulder pain and disability scale and QOL outcomes were assessed at baseline and 3 months after intervention. RESULTS Shoulder pain and disability were significantly improved in the MT group but there was not meaningful difference between groups in the EORTC-QOL scales except for some functional scores of QLQ-BR23 scale in the MT group after 3 months follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Nurses should instruct MT as a rehabilitation program to mastectomy patients during or after hospitalization to reduce their post-op shoulder pain and disability. This intervention may have also positive impact on their self-care outcomes. It is recommended that further studies should be performed with nurse-supervised exercises, a validated tool for measuring QOL for a long period after surgery, and a longer follow-up period at least for 6 months.Implication for rehabilitationThis study aimed to investigate whether an unsupervised, nurse-led mirror therapy (MT) can alleviate shoulder pain and disability of mastectomy patients and improve their quality of life.Our findings indicated that nurse-led MT as a novel rehabilitation option for mastectomy patients, may reduce shoulder pain and disability even after long period after the surgery.Rehabilitation centers can equip rooms for MT so breast cancer women can use it immediately after mastectomy.Mirror therapy can be used as a rehabilitation method for mastectomy patients because it is easy-to-use, inexpensive, and without the need to attend a rehabilitation center.Rehabilitation centers can provide mirrors along with nursing instructions to women who want to use this method at home.

Abstract
Shared decision-making involves patients engaging with their physicians to make informed decisions regarding treatment selection, a process that empowers patients and ensures that treatment decisions reflect their individual values and preferences. However, shared decision-making can be challenging to implement for various reasons, including time, staffing, or resource limitations at community practices and differences in patients' cultural backgrounds or health literacy. In this podcast, we discuss how to ensure that individual patients' needs and concerns are addressed, including an overview of different approaches for initial consultations, strategies for tailoring conversations based on a patient's background or health literacy, and trustworthy resources that can help improve patients' understanding. As an illustrative example, we focus on how to implement shared decision-making to address the needs of a patient with hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) metastatic breast cancer who is eligible for combination therapy with a cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor plus an aromatase inhibitor. Overall, this podcast illustrates how shared decision-making is an achievable goal, even in small or underresourced practices, and provides an instructive guide on how to facilitate shared decision-making for patients with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the physical performance, including upper-limb motor and cardiovascular functions, and psychological functions, including anxiety and depression, sleep, and fatigue, between women with and without breast cancer. METHODS Thirty-two women with breast cancer and 32 healthy counterparts were recruited for the study. Upper-limb muscle strength, shoulder range of motion, and upper-limb function were assessed using a handheld dynamometer, a goniometer, and the short form of the Disabilities of Arm-Shoulder-Hand Questionnaire, respectively. Exercise endurance and cardiovascular functions were assessed using the 6-min walk test and blood pressure and heart rate variability, respectively. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Fatigue Assessment Scale were used to assess the symptoms of anxiety and depression, sleep quality, and fatigue, respectively. RESULTS Breast cancer participants' body-weight-adjusted upper-limb strength of both the affected and unaffected sides (0.11-0.14) was only 61.1-77.8% of those of the healthy participants (0.18). Their shoulder mobility of the affected side (flexion: 161.64°; abduction: 157.01°) were 94.2% (flexion) and 92.5% (abduction) of those of the healthy participants (flexion: 171.56°; abduction: 169.68°), respectively. Breast cancer participants had higher quickDASH mean score (19.53), HADS-A mean score (6.78), HADS-D mean score (4.72), global PSQI mean score (7.22) and FAS mean score (25.97) as well as shorter mean distance covered by 6 MWT (496.66 m) than those of the healthy participants. CONCLUSIONS Rehabilitative interventions, such as mind-body interventions and exercise training, target physical fitness and promote the psychological health of women with breast cancer are necessary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although higher survival rates of breast cancer are achieved these days, breast cancer survivors are challenged with unwanted side effects from treatment or management that affect physical, functional, and psychological well-being of an individual. This study aimed to assess psychological distress status in Malaysian breast cancer survivors and factors that affected the condition. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was conducted on 162 breast cancer survivors from various breast cancer support groups in Malaysia. Psychological distress status was assessed based on depression and anxiety scores by applying the Malay version of Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7). Both instruments were self-administered along with a set of questionnaires comprising demographic, medical history, quality of life, and upper extremity function assessment. Outcomes from the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were analyzed for severity level of psychological distress, and its association with relevant variables, arm morbidity symptoms, as well as the duration of cancer survivorship. RESULTS The univariate analysis showed that breast cancer survivors with arm morbidities after breast surgery had a higher score of depression (5.0 vs 4.0, p = 0.011) and anxiety (3.0 vs 1.0, p = 0.026) than those who did not. Besides that, receiving fewer post-rehabilitation treatments (p = 0.049) and having a family history of cancer (p = 0.022) were correlated with higher anxiety level. The level of depression and anxiety was inversely proportionate with quality of life and positively correlated with greater disability of the arm function (p < 0.05). Subsequent analysis showed that arm morbidity symptoms including difficulties in finding a t-shirt that fits and pain in the arm area after breast cancer surgery were positively associated with a higher level of psychological distress. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated the association between psychological distress with arm morbidities in breast cancer survivors. Given that arm morbidities can affect not only physical, but psychological well-being, continuous or serial assessment on both aspects during cancer treatment may effectively help to address mental health issue experienced by this cancer population.

Abstract
PURPOSE Improvements in breast cancer management continue to increase survival and life expectancy after treatment. Yet the adverse effects of treatment may persist long term, threatening physical, psychological, and social wellbeing, leading to impaired quality of life (QOL). Upper-body morbidity (UBM) such as pain, lymphoedema, restricted shoulder range of motion (ROM), and impaired function are widely reported after breast cancer treatment, but evidence demonstrating its impact on QOL is inconsistent. Therefore, the aim of the study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the effect of UBM on QOL following primary breast cancer treatment. METHODS The study was prospectively registered on PROSPERO (CRD42020203445). CINAHL, Embase, Emcare, PsycInfo, PubMed/Medline, and SPORTDiscus databases were searched for studies reporting QOL in individuals with and without UBM following primary breast cancer treatment. Primary analysis determined the standardised mean difference (SMD) in physical, psychological, and social wellbeing scores between UBM + /UBM - groups. Secondary analyses identified differences in QOL scores between groups, according to questionnaire. RESULTS Fifty-eight studies were included, with 39 conducive to meta-analysis. Types of UBM included pain, lymphoedema, restricted shoulder ROM, impaired upper-body function, and upper-body symptoms. UBM + groups reported poorer physical (SMD = - 0.99; 95%CI = - 1.26, - 0.71; p < 0.00001), psychological (SMD = - 0.43; 95%CI = - 0.60, - 0.27; p < 0.00001), and social wellbeing (SMD = - 0.62; 95%CI = - 0.83, - 0.40; p < 0.00001) than UBM - groups. Secondary analyses according to questionnaire showed that UBM + groups rated their QOL poorer or at equal to, UBM - groups across all domains. CONCLUSIONS Findings demonstrate the significant, negative impact of UBM on QOL, pervading physical, psychological, and social domains. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Efforts to assess and minimise the multidimensional impact of UBM are warranted to mitigate impaired QOL after breast cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) on upper limb (UL) morbidity in breast cancer patients. BACKGROUND Axillary de-escalation is motivated by a desire to reduce harm of ALND. Understanding the impact of axillary surgery and disparities in operative procedures on postoperative arm morbidity would better direct resources to the point of need and cement the need for de-escalation strategies. METHODS Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsychINFO were searched from 1990 until March 2020. Included studies were randomized-controlled and observational studies focusing on UL morbidities, in breast surgery patients. The study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The prevalence of UL morbidity comparing SLNB and ALND at <12 months, 12 to 24 months, and beyond 24 months were analyzed. RESULTS Sixty-seven studies were included. All studies reported a higher rate of lymphedema and pain after ALND compared with SLNB. The difference in lymphedema and pain prevalence between SLNB and ALND was 13.7% (95% confidence interval: 10.5-16.8, P <0.005) and 24.2% (95% confidence interval: 12.1-36.3, P <0.005), respectively. Pooled estimates for prevalence of reduced strength and range of motion after SLNB and ALND were 15.2% versus 30.9% and 17.1% versus 29.8%, respectively. Type of axillary surgery, greater body mass index, and radiotherapy were some of the predictors for UL morbidities. CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of lymphedema after ALND was higher than previously estimated. ALND patients experienced greater rates of lymphedema, pain, reduced strength, and range of motion compared with SLNB. The findings support the continued drive to de-escalate axillary surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To better understand how the shoulder moves in breast cancer survivors with axillary web syndrome (AWS), we compared 3-dimensional (3D) shoulder kinematics during shoulder elevation among breast cancer survivors with and without AWS 5 years postoperatively. Although research consistently shows decreased shoulder range of motion with AWS, we do not understand the underlying biomechanics. DESIGN Nested case control study. SETTING University Academic Breast Center. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-five women who had surgery 5 years previously for unilateral breast cancer with the removal of at least 1 lymph node participated in this study (N=25). Twelve participants had AWS; 13 women did not have AWS. INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Three-dimensional shoulder kinematic data during shoulder forward flexion, scapular plane abduction, and coronal plane abduction were collected using 3D electromagnetic motion tracking. Kinematic data were extracted at 30°, 60°, 90°, and 120° of arm elevation for scapular upward rotation, internal rotation, and posterior tilt as well as for glenohumeral external rotation. RESULTS Women with AWS demonstrated 15.2° less scapular upward rotation at 120° humerothoracic elevation (95% confidence interval [-25.2, -5.2], P=.005), regardless of plane. No significant between-group differences were found for any other angle of scapular upward rotation, nor for scapular internal rotation, scapular posterior tilt, or glenohumeral axial rotation at any angle. CONCLUSIONS Five years after surgery for breast cancer, women diagnosed with AWS have altered scapulohumeral kinematics that may place them at an increased risk of shoulder pain based on existing kinematic literature in healthy cohorts. This information can help guide rehabilitation programs for breast cancer survivors to facilitate pain-free upper extremity function after treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND External beam radiation therapy (XRT) is a commonly used therapeutic modality for the treatment of various chest wall and axillary malignancies. Despite the known risk of local soft tissue dysfunction, and possibly compromised bone ingrowth for cementless implants, there remains limited data on the impact of prior XRT in a shoulder arthroplasty (SA) cohort. This study evaluated the outcomes of primary SA in patients with prior XRT compared to a matched cohort (MC). METHODS Over a 27-year time period (1993-2020), 80 primary SAs (7 hemiarthroplasties [HAs], 29 anatomic total shoulder arthroplasties [aTSAs], and 44 reverse shoulder arthroplasties [rTSAs]) with previous XRT to the upper chest or axillary region and a minimum of 2-year follow-up were included. This cohort was matched (1:2) according to age, sex, body mass index (BMI), implant, and year of surgery with patients who had undergone HA or TSA for osteoarthritis or RSA for cuff tear arthropathy. Clinical outcomes including pain, active shoulder range of motion (ROM), strength, complications, and reoperations inclusive of revision surgery were assessed. RESULTS The XRT cohort consisted of 71 (88.8%) women with a mean age of 70.9 (range, 43-87) years, BMI of 30.9 ± 7.6, and follow-up period of 6.6 years (range, 2.0-28.2). In these patients, SA led to substantial improvements in pain, ROM, and strength across the entire cohort. When compared to the MC, the XRT group demonstrated a lower final postoperative forward elevation (FE) (111° vs. 126°; P = .013) and less improvements in pain (5.3 vs. 6.2; P = .002), FE (34° vs. 54°; P = .002), and external rotation (13° vs. 24°; P < .001). There were 14 (17.5%) complications and 7 reoperations in the XRT group, with rotator cuff failure after HA or TSA (n = 4 of 36; 11.1%) as the most common complication and no instances of loose humeral components. The XRT group had a higher rate of complications (17.5% vs. 8.1%; P = .03) but not reoperations (8.8% vs. 3.1%; P = .059). When evaluated by implant, rTSA demonstrated the lowest rate of reoperations followed by aTSA and HA (2.3% vs. 10.3% vs. 42.9%; P = .002). CONCLUSIONS Primary SA is an effective treatment modality for the improvement of pain, motion, and strength in patients with a history of prior XRT. However, when compared to patients without prior XRT, less clinical improvement and a higher rate of postoperative complications were observed.

Abstract
Background Researchers often rely on hospital tumor registry data to provide comprehensive cancer therapy information. The purpose of this study was to determine the completeness of treatment information found in the abstracted records of patients seen at an academic medical center located in a rural Midwestern state. Approach The cohort included 846 Iowa residents diagnosed with a single malignant tumor of the female breast, colon/rectum, lung, pancreas, or prostate in 2017-2018 with an abstract recorded by the academic medical center and at least 1 other hospital. Treatment/no treatment agreement between the academic medical center's abstract and the central registry's consolidated abstract was examined for the following summary variables of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR): surgery of the primary site, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy. Treatment summary variables from the academic medical center abstract that agreed with the corresponding variables from the central registry abstract were classified as concordant. The proportion of concordance for each treatment modality was the outcome measure, and 95% confidence intervals were calculated with the Agresti-Coull method. Concordance was also examined at the specific treatment level. Results There was high concordance between the treatment information recorded in the academic medical center and the central registry records. The average proportion of treatment/no treatment agreement across all treatment modalities and cancer sites was 0.97 (SD, 0.02). Concordance remained high even when examining specific treatments (average concordance, 0.95; SD, 0.04). The lowest treatment/no treatment concordance proportion was 0.92 (95% CI, 0.86-0.96) for chemotherapeutic treatment of pancreatic cancer. We also found that the academic medical center's summary variables captured most treatments given at other facilities, ranging from 74.4% capture of immunotherapy to 88.2% capture of surgery of the primary site. Conclusions These results indicate that NAACCR-formatted, summary variables from the academic medical center's tumor registry are likely to provide comprehensive treatment information for those individuals diagnosed or treated in this setting. Analyses of either the academic medical record registry records or consolidated records from the central registry should yield similar results. Future research should establish whether similar findings are obtained at other medical centers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies found that women with breast cancer struggle with significant physical and mental challenges that affect their participation in daily living, social and work activities. Although women express their need for rehabilitation, in Israel there has been scant research on the nature of these needs. OBJECTIVE To examine the implications of breast cancer for Israeli women in terms of their quality of life, body function, activities and participation in all facets of life, including work. METHODS The sample was composed of women diagnosed with breast cancer. The data were collected through: (a) an online electronic survey assessing cancer-related quality of life (QoL), function and disability, fatigue and sensory-motor functions, (n = 201) followed by (b) face-to-face interviews and assessments (n = 20), and a healthy control group (n = 61). RESULTS Women with breast cancer reported significantly lower QoL compared to the healthy control group. They reported higher levels of disability in areas such as, cognition, mobility, upper extremity, as well as overall difficulties in self-care, doing routine household activities and return to work. Roughly one-third of the women did not return to work. Interestingly, our sample did not perceive a decline in terms of their social support or networks, the women stated that family and social support were major enabling factors. CONCLUSION The results show that breast cancer has short and long-term functional effects on most facets of these women's life. The women's social support system served as an enabling factor. Many women expressed their frustration at the lack of rehabilitation services for their condition and needs in Israel.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the impact and acceptability of outpatient physical or occupational therapy (PT/OT) for breast cancer survivors (BCS) with varying levels of upper extremity disability (UED). METHODS We retrospectively extracted patient and therapy characteristics, UED measured by quick-disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand (QuickDASH, 0-100 pts.), and patient-rated acceptability (1-item, 0-10 pts) from rehabilitation charts of BCS who completed cancer-specialized PT/OT provided by a single national institution in 2019. We summarized characteristics and acceptability using descriptive statistics, then used established parameters to group BCS by baseline UED severity: high- (QuickDASH > 31.5), moderate- (QuickDASH = 18.5-31.5), or low-UED (QuickDASH = 13-18.5). To evaluate within-group pre-to-post QuickDASH change, we used paired samples t test (p < 0.01), then calculated the proportion who achieved the minimally clinical important difference (MCID, 15.9 points). To compare between-groups difference in QuickDASH improvement, we used Kruskal-Wallis test and Chi-squared test. RESULTS Patients (N = 417) were 59.89 ± 12.06 years old, 99% female, and attended approximately 10 PT/OT sessions (IQR = 6.0-16.0). Most had high baseline UED (62%), followed by moderate (25%) or low UED (13%). For each severity group, mean pre-to-post change in QuickDASH was significant: high-UED (M∆ = 25.13 ± 20.33, d = 1.24, p < 0.01), moderate-UED (M∆ = 11.36 ± 11.9, d = 0.95, p < 0.01), and low-UED (M∆ = 4.84 ± 9.15, d = 0.53, p < 0.01). Most with high UED achieved the MCID (n = 176, 68.2%). In the moderate- and low-UED groups 44% (n = 46) and 4% (n = 2) achieved the MCID, respectively. Acceptability was high (n = 167, Median = 10). CONCLUSION Outpatient cancer rehabilitation is associated with significant improvement in UED for BCS and was acceptable to patients regardless of UED severity at baseline.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the cumulative incidence and natural history of axillary web syndrome (AWS) and its related postoperative risk for physical impairments in a cohort of women followed for 5 years post breast cancer surgery. DESIGN Prospective, longitudinal study. SETTING Academic health center. PARTICIPANTS Women (N=36) with and without AWS after breast cancer surgery with sentinel node biopsy or axillary lymph node dissection. INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Participants were assessed for AWS, shoulder goniometric flexion and abduction range of motion, function (Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand), lymphedema (bioimpedance spectroscopy, girth measures, tissue dielectric constant), and pain (visual analog scale) at 2, 4, 12, and 78 weeks and 5 years after breast cancer surgery. Analysis of variance compared range of motion, function, lymphedema, and pain in women identified with AWS with those without AWS across visits. Univariate logistic regression assessed if AWS was a risk factor for physical impairment at 5 years. RESULTS The cumulative incidence of AWS was 57%. Fifty percent (14/28) of the women who completed all study visits had signs of AWS at 5 years. Abduction active range of motion was significantly lower in women with AWS at 2 and 4 weeks post surgery. AWS was identified as a risk factor for reduced shoulder motion at 5 years. Regardless of AWS, 75% of the women experienced 1 or more upper extremity physical impairments at 5 years, which is an increase from 66% at 78 weeks in the same cohort. CONCLUSIONS AWS is associated with reduced shoulder range of motion in the early postoperative time period, can persist for 5 years after breast cancer surgery, and increases the risk of long-term reduced shoulder range of motion. Long-term physical issues are apparent after breast cancer surgery regardless of AWS.

Abstract
Introduction Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women in Isfahan, Iran; however, its prevention is not desirable in this city. This disease poses several health, social and economic challenges for women. To promote women's self-care in breast cancer prevention, this study aims to design, implement and evaluate a self-care program among women in Isfahan through using a community-based participatory action research method. Methods The present study is based on a community-based participatory action research approach. In this study, the participatory action research includes four general phases of organizing, action planning, action, and rethinking. These phases are summarized as follows: In the organizing phase, the needs of the participants and the action research settings are examined. This means that the current situation is identified and the views of the process owners are assessed. In the action planning phase, using the results of the first phase, some strategies are designed to promote self-care behaviors in the prevention of breast cancer among women in Isfahan. In the implementation phase, the selected strategies are implemented with the help of the process owners. Finally, in the rethinking phase, the results of the implementation of the strategies are monitored and evaluated. This cycle continues until the intended results are achieved. Discussion Changing the role of individuals from a passive status to an aware and active status in the care process requires motivation, responsibility, and active participation of individuals in the disease control process. Moreover, many cultural and social factors affect the active participation of Iranian women. Therefore, individuals can be involved in promoting their health using a community-based participatory action research approach. Abstract
Breast cancer is the one that most affects the female population in Brazil and the world. Upper limb complications are common after cancer treatment, including conservative procedures. Old studies have already shown the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of these complications. However, currently, physiotherapeutic care must be initiated from the diagnosis of the disease. Pre-rehabilitation prepares the patient to receive cancer treatment and promotes a reduction in rehabilitation time. Rehabilitation decreased the axillary cord by 57%, increased the range of motion (ROM) by 45º for flexion and 70º for shoulder abduction, the incidence of lymphedema was 11%, and there was a decrease of 3.4 points concerning pain on the Visual Scale Analog (EVA). The physical therapist should work with breast cancer to diagnose, prevent, and rehabilitate after cancer treatment, promoting functionality and quality of life for patients with breast cancer.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS External beam radiation therapy (XRT) is a commonly used treatment adjunct in patients with breast cancer and is known to cause soft tissue dysfunction. However, data on XRT as a preoperative risk factor for shoulder surgery is limited. The purpose of this study was to assess whether prior history of breast cancer treated with XRT has an impact on surgical complications or outcomes. We hypothesize that patients treated with XRT will have a higher rate of surgical complications and lower outcomes. METHODS A 20-year retrospective chart review across a large, academic health care system was performed. Inclusion criterion comprised any patient with history of breast cancer of the upper-outer or axillary region treated with XRT. Patients also must have undergone a surgical procedure to the ipsilateral shoulder with at least 1-year postoperative follow-up. Patients were stratified by demographics, hand dominance, and surgery type. Postoperative outcomes including range of motion (ROM) and visual analog scale (VAS) scores for pain were also collected. RESULTS Eighteen patients were identified (100% female) with an average age of 66.3 years (standard deviation 10.5 years). Ten shoulders underwent rotator cuff repair (RCR), 4 total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA), 3 reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), and 1 arthroscopic superior labrum anterior to posterior (SLAP) repair. Four patients treated with RCR (40%) experienced postoperative complications related to their procedure. These included scapular winging, adhesive capsulitis, stiffness, and one retear. Two patients treated with shoulder arthroplasty (28.6%) experienced postoperative complications that included lymphedema and periprosthetic fracture following a mechanical fall in one RSA patient and periprosthetic infection in a TSA patient. ROM across all groups improved, most significantly in forward flexion and internal rotation among RCR patients (P < .001). Furthermore, a statistically significant improvement in VAS scores was achieved in each group (6.2 ± 2.14 preoperation, 1.06 ± 1.75 postoperation; P < .001). CONCLUSION When compared to national averages, complication rates in our cohort were higher (40% vs. 10%-17% in RCR patients and 28.6% vs. 4%-14% in arthroplasty patients). On further scrutiny, many of these complications were independent of a history of XRT and many resolved with appropriate therapy. Most importantly, functional outcomes as measured by ROM and pain scores showed appropriate improvement consistent with normal populations without history of XRT. Thus, our results suggest that performing shoulder surgery after ipsilateral XRT for breast cancer is likely safe and may offer improved pain and ROM compared to forgoing surgery without necessarily increasing the risk for postoperative complication.

Abstract
Background: Chronic shoulder pain/disability is a well-recognized side effect of treatment for breast cancer, with ∼40% of patients experiencing this, despite receiving pain management. To manage acute and chronic pain, several opioids are commonly prescribed. Pharmacogenomics have implicated genes within the opioid signaling pathway, including ABCB1 and OPRM1, to contribute to an individual's variable response to opioids. Aim: To evaluate ABCB1 (rs1045642 G>A, rs1128503 G>A) and OPRM1 (rs1799971 A>G, rs540825 T>A) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in chronic shoulder pain/disability in BCS. Materials & methods: TaqManTM assays were used to genotype ABCB1 and OPRM1 SNPs within the BCS (N = 252) cohort. The Shoulder Pain and Disability Index was used to evaluate pain and disability features associated with shoulder pathologies. Participants end scores for each feature (pain, disability and combined [pain and disability]) were categorized into no-low (>30%) and moderate-high (≥30%) scores. Statistical analysis was applied, and significance was accepted at p < 0.05. Results: Of participants, 27.0, 19.0 and 22.0% reported moderate-high pain, disability and combined (pain and disability) scores, respectively. ABCB1:rs1045642-(A/A) genotype was significantly associated with disability (p = 0.028: no-low [14.9%] vs mod-high [4.3%]) and combined (pain and disability) (p = 0.011: no-low [15.9%] vs mod-high [5.7%]). The ABCB1:rs1045642-(A) allele was significantly associated with disability (p = 0.015: no-low [37.9%] vs mod-high [23.9%]) and combined (pain and disability) (p = 0.003: no-low [38.5%] vs mod-high [23.6%]). The inferred ABCB1 (rs1045642 G>A - rs1128503 G>A): A-G (p = 0.029; odds ratio [OR]: 0.0; 95% CI: 0.0-0.0) and the OPRM1 (rs1799971 A>G - rs540825 T>A): G-T (p = 0.019; OR: 0.33; 95% CI: 0.14-0.75) haplotypes were associated with disability and pain, respectively. Gene-gene interactions showed the ABCB1 (rs1045642 G>A) - OPRM1 (rs540825 T>A) combinations, (A-T) (p = 0.019; OR: 0.62; 95% CI: 0.33-1.16) and (G-A) (p = 0.021; OR: 1.57; 95% CI: 0.30-3.10) were associated with disability. Conclusion: The study implicated ABCB1 with shoulder pain and disability; and haplotype analyses identified specific genetic intervals within ABCB1 and OPRM1 to associate with chronic shoulder pain and disability. Evidence suggests that potentially gene-gene interactions between ABCB1 and OPRM1 contribute to chronic shoulder pain and disability experienced in this SA cohort.

Abstract
After mastectomy, women might lose mobility and develop kinematic changes in the shoulder. The objective of this research was to compare the kinematics of the glenohumeral joint in women, before and after unilateral breast cancer surgery. This was a longitudinal study with a pre- and post-evaluation design; in total, 15 Mexican women who had a mastectomy for breast cancer and who received a physical therapy program after surgery were evaluated. Flexion–extension and abduction–adduction movements of the glenohumeral joint were evaluated (15 days before and 60 days after mastectomy). For the kinematic analysis of the glenohumeral joint, an optoelectronic motion capture system was used to monitor 41 reflective markers located in anatomical landmarks. There was no significant difference in the range of motion of the glenohumeral joint when comparing pre- and post-mastectomy, flexion–extension (p = 0.138), and abduction–adduction (p = 0.058). Furthermore, patients who received chemotherapy (53%) before mastectomy were more affected (lower range of motion) than those who did not receive it. There were no significant differences in the kinematics of the glenohumeral joint after mastectomy in this group of patients who received a physical therapy program after surgery. Moreover, patients who received chemotherapy treatment before breast cancer surgery tended to have a lower range of motion than those who did not receive it. Therefore, it is necessary for the physical rehabilitation team to attend to these patients even before the mastectomy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Differences in patient characteristics and decision-making preferences have been described between those who elect breast-conserving surgery (BCS), unilateral mastectomy (UM), or contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) for breast cancer. However, it is not known whether preferred and actual decision-making roles differ across these surgery types, or whether surgery choice reflects a woman's goals or achieves desired outcomes. METHODS Women diagnosed with stage 0-III unilateral breast cancer across eight large medical centers responded to a mailed questionnaire regarding treatment decision-making goals, roles, and outcomes. These data were linked to electronic medical records. Differences were assessed using descriptive analyses and logistic regression. RESULTS There were 750 study participants: 60.1% BCS, 17.9% UM, and 22.0% CPM. On multivariate analysis, reducing worry about recurrence was a more important goal for surgery in the CPM group than the others. Although women's preferred role in the treatment decision did not differ by surgery, the CPM group was more likely to report taking a more-active-than-preferred role than the BCS group. On multivariate analysis that included receipt of additional surgery, posttreatment worry about both ipsilateral and contralateral recurrence was higher in the BCS group than the CPM group (both p < 0.001). The UM group was more worried than the CPM group about contralateral recurrence only (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Women with CPM were more likely to report being able to reduce worry about recurrence as a very important goal for surgery. They were also the least worried about ipsilateral breast recurrence and contralateral breast cancer almost two years postdiagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients diagnosed with cancer face many challenges and need a good understanding of their diagnosis and proposed treatments to make informed decisions about their care. Health literacy plays an important role in this and low health literacy has been associated with poorer outcomes. The aims of this review are to identify which outcomes relate to health literacy in patients with cancer, and to combine this through a mixed studies approach with the patient experience as described through qualitative studies. METHODS Four electronic databases were searched in January 2021 to identify records relating to health literacy and patients with cancer. Records were independently screened then assessed for inclusion by two reviewers according to the following criteria: patients aged ≥18 years with cancer, English language publication AND health literacy measured with validated tool and measured outcome associated with health literacy OR qualitative study exploring the role of health literacy as patients make decisions about health. Quality was independently assessed by two reviewers. A narrative synthesis was performed, and findings integrated through concept mapping. This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO, entry CRD42020166454. RESULTS 4441 records were retrieved. Following de-duplication, 2496 titles and abstracts were screened and full texts of 405 papers were reviewed for eligibility. 66 papers relating to 60 studies met the eligibility criteria. Lower health literacy was associated with greater difficulties understanding and processing cancer related information, poorer quality of life and poorer experience of care. Personal and situational influences contributed to how participants processed information and reached decisions about their care. CONCLUSION This review highlights the important role of health literacy for patients with cancer. Outcomes are poorer for those who experience difficulties with health literacy. Further efforts should be made to facilitate understanding, develop health literacy and support patients to become more involved in their care.

Abstract
PURPOSE Restricted shoulder motion is a major morbidity associated with a lower quality of life and disability after axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) in patients with breast cancer. This study sought to evaluate the antiadhesive effect of a poloxamer-based thermosensitive sol-gel (PTAS) agent after ALND. METHODS We designed a double-blind, multicenter randomized controlled study to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of PTAS in reducing upper-limb dysfunction after ALND. The primary outcome was the change in the range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder before surgery and 4 weeks after ALND (early postoperative period). Secondary outcomes were shoulder ROM at six months, axillary web syndrome, and lymphedema (late postoperative period). RESULTS A total of 170 patients with planned ALND were randomly assigned to one of 2 groups (poloxamer and control) and 15 patients were excluded. In the poloxamer group (n = 76), PTAS was applied to the surface of the operative field after ALND. ALND was performed without the use of poloxamer in the control group (n = 79). Relative to the control group, the poloxamer group had significantly lower early postoperative restrictions in total shoulder ROM at four weeks (-30.04 ± 27.76 vs. -42.59 ± 36.79; p = 0.0236). In particular, the poloxamer group showed greater reductions in horizontal abduction at four weeks (-3.92 ± 9.80 vs. -10.25 ± 15.42; p = 0.0050). The ROM of the shoulder at 24 weeks, axillary web syndrome, and lymphedema were not significantly different between the two groups. No adverse effects were observed in either group. CONCLUSION We suggest that poloxamer might improve the early postoperative shoulder ROM in patients with breast cancer who have undergone ALND. Abstract
Breast cancer has been reported to have the highest survival rate among various cancers. However, breast cancer survivors face several challenges following breast cancer treatment including breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL), sexual dysfunction, and psychological distress. This study aimed to investigate the potential risk factors of BCRL in long term breast cancer survivors. A total of 160 female breast cancer subjects were recruited on a voluntary basis and arm lymphedema was assessed through self-reporting of diagnosis, arm circumference measurement, and ultrasound examination. A total of 33/160 or 20.5% of the women developed BCRL with significantly higher scores for upper extremity disability (37.14 ± 18.90 vs. 20.08 ± 15.29, p < 0.001) and a lower score for quality of life (103.91 ± 21.80 vs. 115.49 ± 16.80, p = 0.009) as compared to non-lymphedema cases. Univariate analysis revealed that multiple surgeries (OR = 5.70, 95% CI: 1.21–26.8, p < 0.001), axillary lymph nodes excision (>10) (OR = 2.83, 95% CI: 0.94–8.11, p = 0.047), being overweight (≥25 kg/m2) (OR = 2.57, 95% CI: 1.04 – 6.38, p = 0.036), received fewer post-surgery rehabilitation treatment (OR = 2.37, 95% CI: 1.05–5.39, p = 0.036) and hypertension (OR = 2.38, 95% CI: 1.01–5.62, p = 0.043) were associated with an increased risk of BCRL. Meanwhile, multivariate analysis showed that multiple surgeries remained significant and elevated the likelihood of BCRL (OR = 5.83, 95% CI: 1.14–29.78, p = 0.034). Arm swelling was more prominent in the forearm area demonstrated by the highest difference of arm circumference measurement when compared to the upper arm (2.07 ± 2.48 vs. 1.34 ± 1.91 cm, p < 0.001). The total of skinfold thickness of the affected forearm was also significantly higher than the unaffected arms (p < 0.05) as evidenced by the ultrasound examination. The continuous search for risk factors in specific populations may facilitate the development of a standardized method to reduce the occurrence of BCRL and provide better management for breast cancer patients.

Abstract
Background and purpose Shoulder morbidity following breast cancer treatment is multifactorial. Despite several treatment- and patient-related factors being implicated, unexplained inter-individual variability exists in the development of such morbidity. Given the paucity of relavant genetic studies, we investigate the role of polymorphisms in candidate proteoglycan genes. Patients and methods We conducted a cross-sectional study on 254 South African breast cancer survivors, to evaluate associations between shoulder pain/disability and ten single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within four proteoglycan genes: ACAN (rs1126823 G>A, rs1516797 G>T, rs2882676 A>C); BGN (rs1042103 G>A, rs743641 A>T, rs743642 G>T); DCN rs516115 C>T; and VCAN (rs11726 A>G, rs2287926 G>A, rs309559). Participants were grouped into no–low and moderate–high shoulder pain/disability based on total pain/disability scores: < 30 and ≥ 30, respectively using the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). Results The GG genotype of VCAN rs11726 was independently associated with an increased risk of being in the moderate-to-high shoulder pain (P = 0.005, OR = 2.326, 95% CI = 1.259–4.348) or disability (P = 0.011, OR = 2.439, 95% CI = 1.235–4.762) categories, after adjusting for participants’ age. In addition, the T-T-G inferred allele combination of BGN (rs74364–rs743642)–VCAN rs11726 was associated with an increased risk of being in the moderate-to-high shoulder disability category (0 = 0.002, OR = 2.347, 95% CI = 1.215–4.534). Conclusion Our study is first to report that VCAN rs11726, independently or interacting with BGN polymorphisms, is associated with shoulder pain or disability in breast cancer survivors. Whereas our findings suggest an involvement of proteoglycans in the etiology of shoulder pain/disability, further studies are recommended. Abstract
Objective: The objective of this systematic review was to identify the effects of different training methods in women who have survived breast cancer (WSBC). Data Sources: Studies were identified by searching SportDiscus, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Scielo, and Bireme. Study Selection: The inclusion criteria were articles that addressed only breast cancer in women, were randomized clinical trials, and interventions involving physical training with Consort ≥80. Data Extraction: The PICO and CONSORT strategies were used for the selection of articles and quality assessment of randomized clinical trials, respectively. Two independent reviewers searched for articles among the databases. Disagreements were discussed, and in the case of an impasse, a third reviewer was consulted. Data Synthesis: Evidence that demonstrated the beneficial effects of physical exercise programs carried out by WSBC. Moderate or high-intensity exercise sessions have been shown to benefit women survivors of breast cancer. Among the modalities, the resistance exercise showed effects from 55% of one-repetition maximum (1 RM), exclusively or associated with other training regimes, such as aerobic (from 48% of heart rate), high-intensity interval training (HIIT), or impact. The main benefits include increased muscle strength, promoted by the practice of resistance exercise in combination with other types of exercises or alone; decreased fatigue; improved quality of life; improved psychosocial effects, and increased leisure time. Conclusions: Physical training performed at a moderate or high intensity (aerobic or anaerobic) can reduce fatigue, improve quality of life, improve sleep quality, and increase bone mineral density in women survivors of breast cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Axillary surgery is still essential in the management of early breast cancer. Conservative procedures like sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) are less invasive than the traditional axillary node dissection (ALND). However, some extent of ipsilateral upper limb dysfunction might still occur. This systematic review aimed to describe the incidence of lymphedema, pain, sensory, and motor disorders after SLNB in women with early breast cancer. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials. The search was performed on Pubmed, EMBASE, CINAHAL, and Web of Science. The search was based on the following concepts: breast cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary dissection, upper limb complications. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane Rob 2.0 toll. RESULTS We obtained 979 unique registries from the primary search and 381 additional records from the included articles' reference lists. Fifty-one articles were assessed as full text. Nine studies were included in the review. A total of 5161 patients undergone SLNB, and 4110 patients were assessed for ipsilateral arm complications. Six months after the surgery, 0-11% of patients presented lymphedema, 11-16% pain, 2-22% sensory disorders, and 0-9% motor disorders. CONCLUSIONS SLNB was associated with persistent postoperative complications. The burden of complications, although lower when compared to ALND, should not be ignored. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Describe patient-reported functional outcomes for hand and foot sarcoma survivors treated with limb-sparing surgery and radiation therapy (LSS + RT). METHODS Fifty-four patients with hand/wrist and foot/ankle sarcomas treated with LSS + RT from 1991 to 2015 were identified. Survivors ≥18 years old without subsequent amputation completed self-assessed functional surveys: Toronto upper extremity salvage score (TESS-UE) and Michigan hand outcomes (MHQ) surveys for hand; TESS lower extremity (TESS-LE) and Foot and Ankle Outcomes (FAOS) surveys for foot. Scoring scales: 0-100, MHQ and TESS; -26 to 56 and 25-59, FAOS core and shoe comfort, respectively. Higher scores denote superior function. RESULTS Five-year local tumor control was 88%. Fourteen of 24 hand (58%) and 14/18 foot (78%) survivors completed surveys. Mean TESS-UE and MHQ scores were 89.4 and 72.8, respectively. Mean TESS-LE, core FAOS, and shoe comfort scores were 92.4, 46.19, and 53.1, respectively. No factors correlated with outcomes. TESS-UE and MHQ scores strongly correlated (r = .87). TESS-LE and FAOS scores were associated with a poor correlation (r = .02 and r = .69). CONCLUSIONS The largest patient-reported functional outcomes analysis for hand and foot sarcoma survivors treated with LSS + RT demonstrates excellent local tumor control and acceptable functional outcomes. Further exploration of optimal functional assessment tools is needed given the potential scope differences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the cancer health burden and themagnitude of work disability on cancer survivors in Australia from 2003 to 2017. METHODS A longitudinal prospective study design was undertaken among cancer patients using data from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia survey. The longitudinal effect was captured using a fixed effect multinomial logistic regression model, which predicted changes in the relationship between cancer burden and work disability level controlling for socio-demographic, lifestyle and life conditions predictors. RESULTS The prevalence of long-term disability among cancer survivors was 50%, with 18% of patients experiencing extreme work disability. The magnitude of disability levels increased significantly with the level of health burden. Cancer survivors who faced a severe health burden were at 5.32 times significantly higher risk of having work disability compared with patients who had no health burden. Other potential predictors, such as older patients (relative risk ratio, RRR = 1.82; 95% CI: 1.57, 5.87), those engaged in lower levels of physical activities (RRR = 1.91; 95% CI: 1.07, 3.40), those who drink alcohol (RRR = 1.29; 95% CI: 1.15, 1.49), and poor socioeconomic status (RRR = 1.28; 95% CI: 1.16, 2.23) were all significantly associated with extreme work disability. CONCLUSION A substantial proportion of cancer survivors experienced work disability which was more pronounced with the magnitude of the cancer health burden. The different dimensions of disability might be prevented by introducing cancer survivor-specific evidence-based interventions, and incorporating comprehensive social support. Recommendations to improve public health policy aimed at reducing population-level unhealthy lifestyle behaviours include: using these findings to better outline the management of a sequelae course of treatment for cancer survivors; and identifying those who should undergo more intensive physical rehabilitation aimed at reducing their work disability level.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cancer is a major public health concern in terms of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Several types of cancer patients suffer from chronic comorbid conditions that are a major clinical challenge for treatment and cancer management. The main objective of this study was to investigate the distribution of the burden of chronic comorbid conditions and associated predictors among cancer patients in Australia over the period of 2007-2017. METHODS The study employed a prospective longitudinal design using data from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia survey. The number of chronic comorbid conditions was measured for each respondent. The longitudinal effect was captured using a fixed-effect negative binomial regression model, which predicted the potential factors that played a significant role in the occurrence of chronic comorbid conditions. RESULTS Sixty-one percent of cancer patients experienced at least one chronic disease over the period, and 21% of patients experienced three or more chronic diseases. Age (>65 years old) (incidence rate ratio, IRR = 1.15; 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.05, 1.40), inadequate levels of physical activity (IRR = 1.25; 95% CI: 1.09, 1.59), patients who suffered from extreme health burden (IRR = 2.30; 95% CI: 1.73, 3.05) or moderate health burden (IRR = 1.90; 95% CI: 1.45, 2.48), and patients living in the poorest households (IRR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.11, 1.29) were significant predictors associated with a higher risk of chronic comorbid conditions. CONCLUSIONS A large number of cancer patients experience an extreme burden of chronic comorbid conditions and the different dimensions of these in cancer survivors have the potential to affect the trajectory of their cancer burden. It is also significant for health care providers, including physical therapists and oncologists, who must manage the unique problems that challenge this population and who should advocate for prevention and evidence-based interventions.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in female patients in developed countries. Recent articles indicate that one-sided mastectomy or minor breast surgery to treat breast cancer can have deleterious effects on posture and the musculoskeletal system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the alterations post-breast cancer surgery of the spine alignment associated to the balance not reported by the noninvasive instrumentation. We enrolled 30 women who had undergone treatment for breast cancer (BG) and were on a waiting-list for rehabilitation treatment and a control group of 30 healthy volunteer women (CG), matched by age and body mass index. The stabilometry was performed using a force platform (Kistler Instruments, Winterthur, Switzerland) test during quiet standing with closed-eyes (EC) and open-eyes (EO), recording the position of the center of pressure (CoP) for 51.2 sec. The stabilogram or the time plot of the two coordinates, X and Y, of the CoP was obtained, which represent anteroposterior and midlateral balance. Spinal posture was measured using the Formetric-4D rasterstereographic system (DIERS, International GmbH, Schlangenbad, Germany), and thoracic kyphotic angle, lumbar lordotic angle, and surface trunk rotation were evaluated. Sixty participants were analyzed (CG:30; BG:30). For the spine rasterstereography a statistically significant difference was shown with regard to anterior-posterior flexion of the trunk major in BG; pelvic inclination and twist of half-pelvis decreased in BG; normalized lumbosacral inversion point decreased in BG; surface rotation major in BG; and lateral deviation major in BG. Compared with the values for the stabilometry test with EO and EC, a statistically significant difference was observed, respectively, for ellipse length (mm; p = 0.04) and ellipse area (mm2; p = 0.04) with EO and in ellipse area (mm2) with EC (p = 0.05), increased in BG for both conditions. No difference was shown for CoP velocity and oscillations between the groups. Breast cancer survivors after prostheses or tissue expanders for mastectomy showed a spine's misalignment present both on the sagittal plane, both on the coronal and frontal plane, increased in BG regard to anterior-posterior flexion of the trunk, surface rotation, and lateral deviation. It is associated with greater energy expenditure for the postural balance control increased in BG with a major ellipse area in EO and EC conditions and major ellipse length in EC condition.
