Abstract
The effect of the released amount and bitterness threshold of bitter peptides on the sensory properties of different wheat gluten hydrolysates (WGHs) after hydrolysis was investigated. The results showed that the endo-activity of the enzyme promoted the release of bitter peptides, leading to enhanced bitterness intensity in WGHs. With the increase in degree of hydrolysis (DH), the bitter threshold of bitter peptides became the main reason affecting bitterness of the WGHs. Proteax exerted the strong exo-activity at the DH of 20%, which could reduce bitterness of Pro-16 hydrolysates. The reason for debittering was the reduction in the content with molecular weights (MWs) of 500-1000 Da and the decrease of surface hydrophobicity (SH) in the Pro-20 M hydrolysates, which led to the increase of the bitterness threshold of bitter peptide. Meanwhile, HPLC-MS/MS analysis demonstrated the reduced proportion of C-terminal hydrophobic amino acids (HAAs) in Pro-20 M extracts verifying the cause of debittering.

Abstract
Milk is a source of many valuable nutrients, including minerals, vitamins and proteins, with an important role in adult health. Milk and dairy products naturally containing or with added probiotics have healthy functional food properties. Indeed, probiotic microorganisms, which beneficially affect the host by improving the intestinal microbial balance, are recognized to affect the immune response and other important biological functions. In addition to macronutrients and micronutrients, biologically active peptides (BPAs) have been identified within the amino acid sequences of native milk proteins; hydrolytic reactions, such as those catalyzed by digestive enzymes, result in their release. BPAs directly influence numerous biological pathways evoking behavioral, gastrointestinal, hormonal, immunological, neurological, and nutritional responses. The addition of BPAs to food products or application in drug development could improve consumer health and provide therapeutic strategies for the treatment or prevention of diseases. Herein, we review the scientific literature on probiotics, BPAs in milk and dairy products, with special attention to milk from minor species (buffalo, sheep, camel, yak, donkey, etc.); safety assessment will be also taken into consideration. Finally, recent advances in foodomics to unveil the probiotic role in human health and discover novel active peptide sequences will also be provided.

Abstract
Milk is a rich source of biologically important proteins and peptides. In addition, milk contains a variety of extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes, that carry their own proteome cargo. EVs are essential for cell-cell communication and modulation of biological processes. They act as nature carriers of bioactive proteins/peptides in targeted delivery during various physiological and pathological conditions. Identification of the proteins and protein-derived peptides in milk and EVs and recognition of their biological activities and functions had a tremendous impact on food industry, medicine research, and clinical applications. Advanced separation methods, mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomic approaches and innovative biostatistical procedures allowed for characterization of milk protein isoforms, genetic/splice variants, posttranslational modifications and their key roles, and contributed to novel discoveries. This review article discusses recently published developments in separation and identification of bioactive proteins/peptides from milk and milk EVs, including MS-based proteomic approaches.

Abstract
In this study, the nano-assemblies of bovine casein hydrolyzed peptides (HP) modified by fatty acids with various alkyl chain lengths (C8, C10, C12 and C14) were synthesized. The physicochemical properties of HP-C8-HP-C14 nano-assemblies were characterized using spectra, laser particle size analyzer, contact angle meter, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and cryo-transmission electron microscope (Cryo-TEM). HP-C8 and HP-C10 self-assembled into a hollow cube cage with an average size of ~500 nm, and the assembly of HP-C12 showed a flower-shaped morphology with more dispersed behavior, and droplet size was observed as ~20 nm. The in vitro cytotoxicity against human breast cancer cells MCF-7 was tested using CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry analysis. HP-C12 showed the highest cytotoxicity for MCF-7 cells with an inhibition rate of 66.03 % ± 0.35 % with an IC50 value of 7.4 μM among HP-Cn. HP-C8, HP-C10 and HP-C12 significantly affected on the migration, invasion and apoptosis of MCF-7 cells. The apoptosis mechanism may depend on the upregulation of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 as well as pro-apoptotic proteins Bax and caspase-8. The dead MCF-7 cells were analyzed with UHPLC-MS/MS using untargeted metabolomics, revealing key metabolic pathways.

Abstract
Anticancer peptide is one of the target in the development of new anticancer drug. Bioactive peptide can be originated from isolated free peptide or produced by hydrolysis of protein. Protein is the main component of Naja kaouthia venom, and due to the toxicity of the venom, it can be assessed as the source of anticancer peptides. This study aims to characterize the venom protein and to identify peptides from the snake venom of N. kaouthia as anticancer. Proteome analysis was employed trypsin hydrolysis of N. kaouthia venom protein completed with HRMS analysis protein database query. Preparative tryptic hydrolysis of the protein followed by reverse-phased fractionation and anti breast cancer activity testing were performed to identify the potent anticancer from the hydrolysate. Proteomic analysis by high-resolution mass spectrometry revealed that there are 20 enzymatic and non-enzymatic proteins in N. kaouthia venom. The 25% methanol peptide fraction had the most active anticancer activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells and showed promising selectivity (selectivity index = 12.87). Amino acid sequences of eight peptides were identified as potentially providing anticancer compounds. Molecular docking analysis showed that WWSDHR and IWDTIEK peptides gave specific interactions and better binding affinity energy with values of -9.3 kcal/mol and -8.4 kcal/mol, respectively. This study revealed peptides from the snake venom of N. kaouthia became a potent source of new anticancer agents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A global pandemic owing to COVID-19 infection has created havoc in the entire world. The etiological agent responsible for this viral outbreak is classified as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Still, there's no specific drug or preventive medication to treat SARS-CoV-2. This study was designed to demonstrate the efficacy of some anti-viral peptides obtained from a plant database i.e., PlantPepDB as potential ACE-2-Spike (S) protein complex neutralizers using a structure-based drug designing approach. METHOD A total of 83 anti-viral plant peptides were screened from a peptide database i.e. PlantPepDB based on their reported anti-viral activities against various viral strains. In order to screen peptides that may potentially interfere with ACE-2 and S complex formation, molecular docking studies were conducted using the flare module of Cresset software and subsequently, analysed the crucial interactions between the peptides and S complexes and ACE-2/S complex. Herein, the interactions and docking scores obtained for ACE-2/S complex were considered as references. The S-peptides complexes which displayed superior interactions and docking scores than reference complex i.e., ACE2-S were considered as final hits. The Molecular dynamics studies were conducted for a period of 30 ns for each of the final hit/S complex to understand the interaction stability and binding mechanism of designed peptides. RESULTS The molecular docking results revealed that five peptides including Cycloviolacin Y3, Cycloviolacin Y1, White cloud bean defensin, Putative defensin 3.1, and Defensin D1 showed superior docking scores (i.e. -1372.5 kJ/mol to -1232.6 kJ/mol) when docked at the ACE2 binding site of S-protein than score obtained for the complex of ACE-2 and S protein i.e. -1183.4 kJ/mol. Moreover, these top five peptides manifested key interactions required to prevent the binding of S protein with ACE2. The molecular dynamics simulation study revealed that two of these five peptides i.e. Cycloviolacin Y3 and Cycloviolacin Y1 displayed minimal RMSD fluctuations. CONCLUSIONS The current structure-based drug-designing approach shows the possible role of anti-viral plant peptides as potential molecules to be explored at the initial stage of viral pathogenesis.

Abstract
New challenges in food production and processing are appearing due to increasing global population and the purpose of achieving a sustainable food system. Bioactive peptides obtained from food proteins can be employed to prevent or pre-treat several diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, thrombosis, cancer, etc. Research on the bioactivity of protein hydrolysates is very extensive, especially in vitro tests, although there are also tests in animal models and in humans studies designed to verify their efficacy. However, there is very little published literature on the functionality of these protein hydrolysates as an ingredient in food matrices, as well as the effect that thermal or non-thermal processing, and storage may have on the bioactivity of these bioactive peptides. This review aims to summarize the published literature on protein hydrolysates as a functional ingredient including processing, storage and simulated gastrointestinal digestion regarding the bioactivity of these peptides inside food matrices.

Abstract
Despite the remarkable advancement in the health care sector, cancer remains the second most fatal disease globally. The existing conventional cancer treatments primarily include chemotherapy, which has been associated with little to severe side effects, and radiotherapy, which is usually expensive. To overcome these problems, target-specific nanocarriers have been explored for delivering chemo drugs. However, recent reports on using a few proteins having anticancer activity and further use of them as drug carriers have generated tremendous attention for furthering the research towards cancer therapy. Biomolecules, especially proteins, have emerged as suitable alternatives in cancer treatment due to multiple favourable properties including biocompatibility, biodegradability, and structural flexibility for easy surface functionalization. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have reported that various proteins derived from animal, plant, and bacterial species, demonstrated strong cytotoxic and antiproliferative properties against malignant cells in native and their different structural conformations. Moreover, surface tunable properties of these proteins help to bind a range of anticancer drugs and target ligands, thus making them efficient delivery agents in cancer therapy. Here, we discuss various proteins obtained from common exogenous sources and how they transform into effective anticancer agents. We also comprehensively discuss the tumor-killing mechanisms of different dietary proteins such as bovine α-lactalbumin, hen egg-white lysozyme, and their conjugates. We also articulate how protein nanostructures can be used as carriers for delivering cancer drugs and theranostics, and strategies to be adopted for improving their in vivo delivery and targeting. We further discuss the FDA-approved protein-based anticancer formulations along with those in different phases of clinical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rapeseed peptide, extracted from rapeseed protein, is known to have a variety of biological activities. In this study, the anti-proliferation effect and molecular mechanism of rapeseed peptide on HepG2 cells were investigated. RESULTS In vitro anticancer experiments showed that the rapeseed peptide NDGNQPL could inhibit HepG2 cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner [half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50 ), 1.56 mmol L-1 ). HepG2 cells were induced by NDGNQPL at a 0.5 mmol L-1 concentration and exhibited a 28.39 ± 0.80% apoptosis rate and a cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase. Meanwhile, rapeseed peptide induced a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) release, and changes in the nuclear morphology of HepG2 cells, indicating that rapeseed peptide could induce cell apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway. In addition, rapeseed peptide activated the proliferation-related P53 signaling pathway, in which the expression levels of P53, P21, and cleaved-caspase3 were up-regulated, while the expression levels of murine double minute 2 (MDM2) were down-regulated. In molecular docking simulations, NDGNQPL exhibited a good affinity for the MDM2 molecule, which supported the notion that the rapeseed peptide is able to inhibit MDM2, a negative regulator of P53. CONCLUSION The current results indicate that the rapeseed-derived NDGNQPL peptide has the potential to inhibit the proliferation of HepG2 cells and promote human health. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Cancer is currently considered one of the most threatening diseases worldwide. Diet could be one of the factors that can be enhanced to comprehensively address a cancer patient's condition. Unfortunately, most molecules capable of targeting cancer cells are found in uncommon food sources. Among them, depsipeptides have emerged as one of the most reliable choices for cancer treatment. These cyclic amino acid oligomers, with one or more subunits replaced by a hydroxylated carboxylic acid resulting in one lactone bond in a core ring, have broadly proven their cancer-targeting efficacy, some even reaching clinical trials and being commercialized as "anticancer" drugs. This review aimed to describe these depsipeptides, their reported amino acid sequences, determined structure, and the specific mechanism by which they target tumor cells including apoptosis, oncosis, and elastase inhibition, among others. Furthermore, we have delved into state-of-the-art in vivo and clinical trials, current methods for purification and synthesis, and the recognized disadvantages of these molecules. The information collated in this review can help researchers decide whether these molecules should be incorporated into functional foods in the near future.

Abstract
Many of plant proteins exhibit the properties similar to the antitumor proteins although the anticancer activity of Brazzein on modulating the autophagy signaling pathway has not been determined so far. The present study aimed to develop a simplified system to enable the rational design of the activating extracellular domain of human Toll-like receptor 5 (hTLR5). To identify the anticancer effect of Brazzein, HADDOCK program and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were applied to examine the binding of the wild type (WT) and p.A19K mutant of Brazzein to the TLR5. The expression of MAP1S and TNF-α genes was estimated based on real-time PCR. The results clearly confirmed that the WT of Brazzein activated hTLR5 in the MCF-7 cell line since the genes were more and significantly less expressed in the cells treated with the WT and p.A19K mutant than the control, respectively. The snapshots of MD simulation exhibit the consistent close interactions of hTLR5 with the two helices of Brazzein on its lateral side. The results of per residue-free energy decomposition analysis substantiate those of intermolecular contact analysis perfectly one. We propose that the WT of Brazzein can act as an antitumor drug candidate.

Abstract
Anticancer peptide (ACP) is a short peptide with less than 50 amino acids that has been discovered in a variety of foods. It has been demonstrated that traditional Chinese medicine or food can help treat cancer in some cases, which suggests that ACP may be one of the therapeutic ingredients. Studies on the anti-cancer properties of Sanghuangporus sanghuang have concentrated on polysaccharides, flavonoids, triterpenoids, etc. The function of peptides has not received much attention. The purpose of this study is to use computer mining techniques to search for potential anticancer peptides from 62 proteins of Sanghuang. We used mACPpred to perform sequence scans after theoretical trypsin hydrolysis and discovered nine fragments with an anticancer probability of over 0.60. The study used AlphaFold 2 to perform structural modeling of the first three ACPs discovered, which had blast results from the Cancer PPD database. Using reverse docking technology, we found the target proteins and interacting residues of two ACPs with an unknown mechanism. Reverse docking results predicted the binding modes of the ACPs and their target protein. In addition, we determined the active part of ACPs by quantum chemical calculation. Our study provides a framework for the future discovery of functional peptides from foods. The ACPs discovered have the potential to be used as drugs in oncology clinical treatment after further research.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to demonstrate canned pork as a functional meat product due to the presence of potentially anti-cancer factors, e.g., (a) bioactive peptides with potential activity against cancer cells; (b) lowering the content of sodium nitrite and with willow herb extract. In silico (for assessing the anticancer potential of peptides) and in vitro (antiproliferation activity on L-929 and CT-26 cell lines) analysis were performed, and the obtained results confirmed the bioactive potential against cancer of the prepared meat product. After 24 h of incubation with peptides obtained from meat product containing lyophilized herb extract at a concentration of 150 mg/kg, the viability of both tested cell lines was slightly decreased to about 80% and after 72 h to about 40%. On the other hand, after 72 h of incubation with the peptides obtained from the variant containing 1000 mg/kg of freeze-dried willow herb extract, the viability of intestinal cancer cells was decreased to about 40%, while, by comparison, the viability of normal cells was decreased to only about 70%.

Abstract
Dietary intervention via modifications of dietary pattern or supplementations of naturally derived bioactive compounds has been considered as an efficient approach in management of nutrition related chronic diseases. Food protein-derived bioactive peptide is representative of natural compounds which show the potential to prevent or mitigate nutrition related chronic diseases. In the past decades, substantial research has been conducted concentrating on the characterization, bioavailability, and activity assessment of bioactive peptides. Although various activities of bioactive peptides have been reported, the activity testes of most peptides were only conducted in cells and animal models. Some clinical trials of bioactive peptides were also reported but only limited to antihypertensive peptides, antidiabetic peptides and peptides modulating blood lipid profile. Hereby, clinical evidence of bioactive peptides in management of nutrition-related chronic diseases is summarized in this chapter, which aims at providing implications for the clinical studies of bioactive peptides in the future.

Abstract
Milk-derived bioactive peptides (BAPs) possess several potential attributes in terms of therapeutic capacity and their nutritional value. BAPs from milk proteins can be liberated by bacterial fermentation, in vitro enzymatic hydrolysis, food processing, and gastrointestinal digestion. Previous evidence suggested that milk protein-derived BAPs have numerous health-beneficial characteristics, including anti-cancerous activity, anti-microbial activity, anti-oxidative, anti-hypertensive, lipid-lowering, anti-diabetic, and anti-osteogenic. In this literature overview, we briefly discussed the production of milk protein-derived BAPs and their mechanisms of action. Milk protein-derived BAPs are gaining much interest worldwide due to their immense potential as health-promoting agents. These BAPs are now used to formulate products sold in the market, which reflects their safety as natural compounds. However, enhanced commercialization of milk protein-derived BAPs depends on knowledge of their particular functions/attributes and safety confirmation using human intervention trials. We have summarized the therapeutic potentials of these BAPs based on data from in vivo and in vitro studies.

Abstract
Riceberry rice bran is the part of rice that has been scrubbed out during the coloring process. There are various health benefits to be gained from foods with a high protein content. This work aimed to study the effect of hydrolyzed riceberry rice bran extracts on colon cancer cell lines compared to normal cells. The MTT assay result showed that our extract has lower cytotoxicity effects on normal cells (PCS-201-010, IC50 = 6745 µg/mL) compared to colon cancer cell lines and has a greater effect on metastatic cancer cell lines (SW-620, IC50 = 5468 µg/mL) than non-metastatic cancer cell lines (HT-29, IC50 = 6054 µg/mL). The apoptotic inductive effects of HRBE on SW-620 were observed after 72 h at a maximum rate of 76% and at maximum concentration. According to the result of the cell senescence analysis after 24 h of HRBE treatment, the percentage of HT-29 (86%) expressing SA-β-gal was much higher than that of SW-620 (32%). Consequently, the decrease in the cell population in the S and M/G2 phases indicated cell cycle arrest in HT-29 cells after being treated with HRBE. Focusing on the peptide fraction size of HRBE, the largest (>50 kDa) fraction showed the highest anticancer activity compared to other fractions. In conclusion, the hydrolyzed riceberry rice bran extract induced the apoptosis process in the metastatic cancer cells and induced the senescence process in the non-metastatic cancer cells. This observed information will be useful and applicable for medical research and colon cancer treatment in the future.

Abstract
Human cancer remains a cause of high mortality throughout the world. The conventional methods and therapies currently employed for treatment are followed by moderate-to-severe side effects. They have not generated curative results due to the ineffectiveness of treatments. Besides, the associated high costs, technical requirements, and cytotoxicity further characterize their limitations. Due to relatively higher presidencies, bioactive peptides with anti-cancer attributes have recently become treatment choices within the therapeutic arsenal. The peptides act as potential anti-cancer agents explicitly targeting tumor cells while being less toxic to normal cells. The anti-cancer peptides are isolated from various natural sources, exhibit high selectivity and high penetration efficiency, and could be quickly restructured. The therapeutic benefits of compatible anti-cancer peptides have contributed to the significant expansion of cancer treatment; albeit, the mechanisms by which bioactive peptides inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells remain unclear. This review will provide a framework for assessing anti-cancer peptides' structural and functional aspects. It shall provide appropriate information on their mode of action to support and strengthen efforts to improve cancer prevention. The article will mention the therapeutic health benefits of anti-cancer peptides. Their importance in clinical studies is elaborated for reducing cancer incidences and developing sustainable treatment models.

Abstract
Protein hydrolysates from various sources, including tuna cooking juice, soy protein isolate, sodium caseinate, wheat gluten and skin gelatin from porcine, tilapia, halibut and milkfish were analyzed to screen their antiproliferative activities against the human oral squamous carcinoma cell line, HSC-3. The soy protein isolate was selected for further investigations based on its hydrolysates with bromelain (SB) and thermolysin (ST), showing the greatest inhibition of cell growth. The SB and ST hydrolysates showed antiproliferative activities up to 35.45–76.39% against HSC-3 cells at 72 h, and their IC50 values were 0.74 and 0.60 mg/mL, respectively. SB and ST induced cell cycle arrest in the S phase through a pathway independent of p21 and p27 protein expression. Further, ST induced the apoptosis of HSC-3 cells by downregulating expression of Bcl-2, PARP, caspase 3 and caspase 9, but an upregulating expression of p53 and cleaved caspase 3. Unlike ST, SB may induce necrosis on HSC-3 cells. Thus, soybean hydrolysates may be a good source for providing antiproliferative peptides against HSC-3, while SB and ST may have the potential to be developed as functional foods.

Abstract
Postharvest hardening did not definitively affect bioactivity of bean peptides. Peptides from hardened and non-hardened beans showed high vasorelaxant activity. Thermal treatment positively affected the biological potential of hardened beans.
Aiming to understand the impact of hardening on the biological potential of bean protein and peptides, we evaluated the antioxidant and vasorelaxant properties of common beans after and before hardening. It was also evaluated the effect of extrusion and autoclaving in the biological potential of hardened beans. In general, hardening caused a reduction from 13.5 to 39.6% on the antioxidant activity of the peptide-rich fractions. On the other hand, hardening did not strongly interfere with the vascular reactivity in thoracic aorta rings, being observed maximal relation varying from 801% to 84.7%. The thermal treatment caused a general increase in the antioxidant and vasorelaxant potential of these fractions, being observed EC50 values ranging from 0.22 mg mL−1 to 0.26 mg mL−1. We can conclude that hardening did not seem to affect definitively the bioactivity of the obtained peptide-rich fractions. Finally, this study allows suggesting practical applications of extrusion as a thermal process in the production of functional food ingredients, and as ready-to-eat products presenting nutraceutical potential. In addition, autoclaving can be used as a pre-treatment of the hardened grains aiming to use them as whole grains with potentialized benefits for human health.

Abstract
Cell membranes are heterogeneous and consist of liquid-ordered (Lo) and liquid-disordered (Ld) phases due to phase separation. Membrane regulation of egg white peptides (LCAY and QVPLW) was confirmed in our previous study. However, the underlying mechanism of phase regulation by the peptides has not been elucidated. This study aimed to explore the effect of LCAY and QVPLW on the membrane phase separation and illustrate their mechanism by giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs). Based on phase separation visualization, LCAY and QVPLW were found to increase the Lo phase by rearranging lipids and ordering the Ld phase. LCAY and QVPLW can bind to the GUVs and localize in the amphiphilic region of the membrane. By hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions, LCAY and QVPLW may play a cholesterol-like role in regulating phase separation.

Abstract
Viruses of the picornavirus-like supercluster mainly achieve cleavage of polyproteins into mature proteins through viral 3-chymotrypsin proteases (3Cpro) or 3-chymotrypsin-like proteases (3CLpro). Due to the essential role in processing viral polyproteins, 3Cpro/3CLpro is a drug target for treating viral infections. The 3CLpro is considered the main protease (Mpro) of coronaviruses. In the current study, the SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibitory activity of di- and tri-peptides (DTPs) resulted from the proteolysis of bovine milk proteins was evaluated. A set of 326 DTPs were obtained from virtual digestion of bovine milk major proteins. The resulted DTPs were screened using molecular docking. Twenty peptides (P1–P20) showed the best binding energies (ΔGb < − 7.0 kcal/mol). Among these 20 peptides, the top five ligands, namely P1 (RVY), P3 (QSW), P17 (DAY), P18 (QSA), and P20 (RNA), based on the highest binding affinity and the highest number of interactions with residues in the active site of Mpro were selected for further characterization by ADME/Tox analyses. For further validation of our results, molecular dynamics simulation was carried out for P3 as one of the most favorable candidates for up to 100 ns. In comparison to N3, a peptidomimetic control inhibitor, high stability was observed as supported by the calculated binding energy of the Mpro-P3 complex (− 59.48 ± 4.87 kcal/mol). Strong interactions between P3 and the Mpro active site, including four major hydrogen bonds to HIS41, ASN142, GLU166, GLN189 residues, and many hydrophobic interactions from which the interaction with CYS145 as a catalytic residue is worth mentioning. Conclusively, milk-derived bioactive peptides, especially the top five selected peptides P1, P3, P17, P18, and P20, show promise as an antiviral lead compound.

Abstract
Bioactive peptides are a class of peptides with special physiological functions and have potential applications in human health and disease prevention. Bioactive peptides have gained much research attention because they affect the cardiovascular, endocrine, immune, and nervous systems. Recent research has reported that bioactive peptides are of great value for physiological function regulation, including antioxidation, anti-hypertension, antithrombosis, antibacterial properties, anti-cancer, anti-inflammation, anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, cholesterol-lowering, immunoregulation, mineral binding and opioid activities. The production of food-derived bioactive peptides is mainly through the hydrolysis of digestive enzymes and proteolytic enzymes or microbial fermentation. The purpose of this review is to introduce the production, function, application, challenges, and prospects of food-derived bioactive peptides.

Abstract
Anti-cancer peptides play an important role in the area of cancer inhibition. A variety of anti- cancer peptides have emerged through the extraction and structural modification of peptides from biological tissues. This review provides the research background of anti-cancer peptides, the introduction of the mechanism of anti-cancer peptides for inhibition of cancers, the discovery and development along with optimization and modifications of these peptides in the clinical application. In conclusion, it can be said that anti-cancer peptides will play a major role in the future oncologic clinic.
