Research on the Operational Efficiency of Basic Medical Insurance for Urban Employees in China-Based on Three-Stage DEA Model

Purpose

To conduct a three-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) of the operational efficiency of urban employee basic medical insurance (UEBMI) across 31 provinces in China from 2012 to 2021.

Methods

Utilized a three-stage DEA model, this study measured and evaluated the operational efficiency of urban employee basic medical insurance within China's 31 provinces.

Results

The operational efficiency of urban employee basic medical insurance in China was notably low, displaying significant disparities across different regions and periods. Substantial room for improvement exists. Environmental factors, including urbanization level and unemployment rate, wielded a pronounced influence on the operational efficiency of China's employee medical insurance. Conversely, the fiscal revenue and expenditure ratio hindered the enhancement of employee medical insurance efficiency.

Conclusion

This study held valuable insights for enhancing the operational efficiency of China's urban employee basic medical insurance. To effectively improve insurance efficiency, the following recommendations are put forth: firstly, relevant departments should escalate resource investments and optimize resource utilization based on rational allocation; secondly, enhance legislation and regulations, fortify fund oversight, and ensure equitable and judicious utilization of the medical insurance fund; finally, leveraging modern high-tech advancements can comprehensively elevate the operational efficiency of the employee medical insurance fund. Ultimately, with the advent of cutting-edge technology, the operational efficiency of employee medical insurance fund can be comprehensively elevated.

Healthcare services efficiency and its intrinsic drivers in China: based on the three-stage super-efficiency SBM model

BACKGROUND

The purpose of this study is to examine the development of healthcare services efficiency in China since the reform of the healthcare system. By examining the development environment of healthcare services in China and examining the driving factors affecting the efficiency of healthcare services, we provide a reference for the future high-quality development of healthcare services in China.

METHODS

A three-stage super-efficient slack-based measure (SBM) model with undesirable outputs was used to measure the efficiency of healthcae services in 31 Chinese provinces from 2009 to 2021, and a global Malmquist-Luenberger (GML) index was used to assess their spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and internal influencing mechanisms of healthcare services efficiency.

RESULTS

The empirical results showed that the efficiency of China's healthcare services changed significantly from 2009-2014 and then remained stable. During the study period, the efficiency of healthcare services in the eastern region was higher than the national level, while it was lower in the western region. The results of the analysis of environmental factors indicated that an increase in population density reduced the redundancy of healthcare input resources and that economic development as well as an increase in government subsidies, contributed to an increase in the redundancy of healthcare input resources. The main contribution to the growth of healthcare sercices efficiency in China came from the technological innovation effect, and the growth was most significant in the western region.

CONCLUSION

From 2009 to 2021, the efficiency of national healthcare services generally showed a slow upward trend, and the efficiency of healthcare services varied widely among regions. Under the existing environmental constraints, relevant departments in each region should strengthen technological innovation in healthcare services, completely focus on the regional catch-up effect, and promote the balanced development of regional health.

Quantile VAR network evidence for spillover effects and connectivity between China's stock markets, green commodities, and Bitcoin

Numerous economic and financial crises, particularly the present crisis in the healthcare sector, have pushed major shock spillover channels over stock marketplaces. This research studied how the shock spillover system is affected by three significant factors: Bitcoins, unpredictability, and the China stock market between 2014 and 2021. While much earlier empirical research has looked at risk dispersion in different financial markets, this article will zero in on green markets. This investigation seeks to accomplish something that has never been done before: determine whether or not green commodities, Bitcoin, and uncertainty impact the performance of the China stock market. The following are significant results based on a quantile vector autoregressive (VAR) connection. (i) A static spillover system indicates that information was widely shared across markets during intense market circumstances. (ii) The global green economy and clean energy marketplaces are the primary sources of knowledge spillover in adverse market conditions. This research elucidates the asymmetrical influence of green products, Bitcoin, and market volatility in China. This is vital due to the dynamic nature of international and regional connections. Recent studies have shown that shock spillovers are excellent for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), uncertainty indices, and global carbon indexes, but bad for most eco-friendly products.

Estimating the efficiency of primary health care services and its determinants: evidence from provincial panel data in China

Background

The efficiency of primary health care services is drawing increased attention worldwide, especially in developing countries. Health care reform in China has moved into the 'deep water zone' phase and is facing the dilemma of inefficiency in primary health care services, which is a critical challenge for universal health coverage.

Methods

In this study, we estimate the efficiency of primary health care services in China and its determinants. A combination of a super-SBM (Slack-Based Measure) model, a Malmquist productivity index model and a Tobit model is used to study provincial panel data, and the results demonstrate the inefficiency of primary health care services in China and the variations in efficiency values between regions.

Results

Over time, the productivity of primary health care services shows a decreasing trend, mainly due to slowing technology change. Financial support is needed to improve the efficiency of primary health care services, but it is worth noting that existing social health insurance coverage decreases efficiency, while economic development, urbanization and education also have a significant impact.

Conclusion

The findings suggest that increasing financial support should remain a priority in developing countries but that reasonable reimbursement design, appropriate payment methods and comprehensive supporting social health insurance policies are key to the next step of reform.

The Protective Nature of Gold During Times of Oil Price Volatility: An Analysis of the COVID-19 Pandemic

This research explores gold's safe-haven properties amid oil price instability, focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examines how gold hedges against oil price swings in the context of the pandemic's exceptional market circumstances. A VAR (Vector Autoregressive) model analyzes gold and oil prices from 2006 through 2021. The VAR model reflects the dynamic interactions and interdependencies between these two essential commodities in the context of oil price volatility and the COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis shows that gold protects against oil price volatility and the COVID-19 pandemic-gold buffers against oil price swings due to its strong inverse association with oil prices. Gold offers investors security and asset preservation during significant oil price volatility. In light of oil price volatility and the COVID-19 pandemic, the study helps explain gold's importance as a diversification tool and haven asset. Investors, policymakers, and market players should consider gold as a hedge against oil price volatility and economic instability.

Integrated development of green finance and green accounting in policy banks

The fundamental purpose of this study is to conduct an inquiry into the efficacy of China's green credit strategy, and that will be the core focus of the investigation. As part of this study, we investigate whether or not businesses that increase the environmental transparency of their operations to the outside world and green innovation within their operations are rewarded with more favorable bank loan terms as a direct result of receiving green credit. Specifically, we look at whether or not these businesses are awarded green credit. Our hypothesis is put to the test by using the difference-in-differences (DID) model and the data that was collected from a sample of 1086 publicly traded Chinese manufacturers over the years 2012 to 2017. According to the data, businesses that improve the quality of their environmental disclosures do not receive an increase in their access to corporate finance. On the other hand, businesses that introduce new environmentally friendly breakthroughs do receive an increase in their access to corporate finance. Our research demonstrates that the root of the problem is corporate green-washing, a practice that is common in regions with low environmental disclosure standards and makes it more difficult for businesses to obtain new loans. This practice is popular in areas where environmental disclosure standards are lax. This is the most basic explanation for why the phenomena occur in the first place. Our findings contribute to the literature on themes including green credit policy, corporate green innovation, environmental transparency, and green-washing, all of which are useful to corporations, governments, and financial institutions.

Measurement of local government green governance efficiency based on total waste emissions and PM2.5 concentration: Evidence from China

The problem of environmental pollution is becoming more and more prominent. Making ecological governance take an effective and sustainable development path has become a complex problem for countries to think about. The proposal of green governance provides new ideas for governments to manage enterprises and local environmental governance. The DEA method is commonly used to measure the effectiveness of environmental governance, but the traditional DEA method ignores environmental factors and management factors, and the measurement error is significant. Therefore, this paper introduces the total waste discharge and PM2.5 average concentration and other unexpected outputs, using the three-stage DEA model and three-stage DEA Malmquist index model, creatively constructing the green governance measurement index system, which measures and evaluates the green governance efficiency of 30 provinces in China from 2004 to 2019 from static and dynamic perspectives. The research results show that the efficiency value obtained by the three-stage DEA model is higher than the first stage, which confirms that the external environmental factors have a specific impact on the GGE. At the same time, the comprehensive technical efficiency value presents a "U"-shaped trend with time. From the perspective of sub-regions, there is heterogeneity in the efficiency values between regions, showing a decreasing trend of "east, west, and middle." From the efficiency decomposition results, the main reason for the negative growth rate of GGE is the low efficiency of technological progress, which provides targeted suggestions for governance in various regions of China. This study will help provinces prepare to strengthen investment in technological innovation, maximize the benefits of input and output, and promote green and sustainable development.
