Abstract
PURPOSE Inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) are known with poor long-term health concerns; however, the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and the burden placed on families remain unclear. This study investigated the self- and proxy-reported HRQoL of pediatric patients with IEM with or without developmental disabilities and the burden placed on their caregivers. METHODS Patients with IEM aged 8-15 years and their caregivers were asked to respond to the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL), EuroQoL five-dimension questionnaire for younger populations (EQ-5D-Y), and Japanese version of the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (J-ZBI). We compared EQ-5D-Y scores with matched EQ-5D-Y population norms. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for self and proxy HRQoL scores of those without developmental disabilities were calculated. Correlation coefficients of HRQoL proxy responses with J-ZBI score were estimated. RESULTS We included 66 patients with IEM (mean age, 11.5 years; males, 41.2%) in the study. The mean (± standard deviation) EQ-5D-Y scores without and with developmental disabilities were 0.957 (± 0.071) and 0.821 (± 0.175), respectively. The EQ-5D-Y scores significantly increased compared with the reference values (p < 0.01, effect size = 0.337). The ICC values were 0.331 and 0.477 for the EQ-5D-Y and PedsQL scores, respectively. HRQoL proxy scores had strong negative correlations with J-ZBI scores. CONCLUSION The HRQoL of patients with IEM without developmental disabilities in our study was similar to that of the general Japanese population. The HRQoL of patients with IEM with developmental disabilities was low and associated with a tendency towards an increased burden of care.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are widely used in medicine. As older adults, who may rely on a proxy caregiver for answers due to cognitive impairment, are representing an increasing share of the traumatically injured patient population, proxy-reported outcome measures (proxROMs) offer a valuable alternative source of patient-centered information although its association with PROMs is unclear. The objective of this scoping review is to discuss all available literature comparing PROM and proxROMs in adult patients with musculoskeletal trauma to guide future research in this field. METHODS The PRISMA extension for Scoping Reviews was used to guide this review. MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched without date limit for articles comparing PROM and proxROMs in setting of musculoskeletal trauma. Abstract and full-text screening were performed by two independent reviewers. Variables included study details, patient and proxy characteristics, and reported findings on agreement between PROMs and proxROMs. RESULTS Of 574 unique records screened, 13 were included. Patient and proxy characteristics varied greatly, while patients' cognitive status and type of proxy perspective were poorly addressed. 18 different PROMs were evaluated, mostly reporting on physical functioning and disability (nine, 50%) or quality of life (six, 33%). Injury- and proxy-specific tools were rare, and psychometric properties of PROMs were often not described. Studies reported moderate to good agreement between PROMs and proxROMs. There is less agreement on subjective outcome measures (e.g., depression score) compared to observable items, and proxy bias results in in worse outcomes compared to patient self-reports. CONCLUSION Current literature, though limited, demonstrates moderate to good agreement between injured patients' self- and proxy-reports. Future studies should be mindful of current guidelines on proxy reporting when developing their studies and consider including neglected populations such as cognitively impaired patients to improve clinical validity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Utility values offer a quantitative means to evaluate the impact of novel cancer treatments on patients' quality of life (QoL). However, the multiple methods available for valuing QoL present challenges in selecting the most appropriate method across different contexts. AREAS COVERED This review provides cancer clinicians and researchers with an overview of methods to value QoL for economic evaluations, including standalone and derived preference-based measures (PBMs) and direct preference elicitation methods. Recent developments are described, including the comparative performance of cancer-specific PBMs versus generic PBMs, measurement of outcomes beyond health-related QoL, and increased use of discrete choice experiments to elicit preferences. Recommendations and considerations are provided to guide the choice of method for cancer research. EXPERT OPINION We foresee continued adoption of the QLU-C10D and FACT-8D in cancer clinical trials given the extensive use of the EORTC QLQ-C30 and FACT-G in cancer research. While these cancer-specific PBMs offer the convenience of eliciting utility values without needing a standalone PBM, researchers should consider potential limitations if they intend to substitute them for generic PBMs. As the field advances, there is a greater need for consensus on the approach to selection and integration of various methods in cancer clinical trials.

Abstract
PURPOSE Proxy assessment can be elicited via the proxy-patient perspective (i.e., asking proxies to assess the patient's quality of life (QoL) as they think the patient would respond) or proxy-proxy perspective (i.e., asking proxies to provide their own perspective on the patient's QoL). This review aimed to identify the role of the proxy perspective in explaining the differences between self-rated and proxy-rated QoL in people living with dementia. METHODS A systematic literate review was conducted by sourcing articles from a previously published review, supplemented by an update of the review in four bibliographic databases. Peer-reviewed studies that reported both self-reported and proxy-reported mean QoL estimates using the same standardized QoL instrument, published in English, and focused on the QoL of people with dementia were included. A meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize the mean differences between self- and proxy-report across different proxy perspectives. RESULTS The review included 96 articles from which 635 observations were extracted. Most observations extracted used the proxy-proxy perspective (79%) compared with the proxy-patient perspective (10%); with 11% of the studies not stating the perspective. The QOL-AD was the most commonly used measure, followed by the EQ-5D and DEMQOL. The standardized mean difference (SMD) between the self- and proxy-report was lower for the proxy-patient perspective (SMD: 0.250; 95% CI 0.116; 0.384) compared to the proxy-proxy perspective (SMD: 0.532; 95% CI 0.456; 0.609). CONCLUSION Different proxy perspectives affect the ratings of QoL, whereby adopting a proxy-proxy QoL perspective has a higher inter-rater gap in comparison with the proxy-patient perspective.

Abstract
Throughout the COVID-19 period, families were forced to stay indoors, adapting to online schooling, remote work, and virtual social engagements, inevitably altering the dynamics within households. There was a notable increase in mental health challenges in terms of anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. This study intended to explore the psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Italian families by adopting self- and proxy-report questionnaires on anxiety, anger, and health-related quality of life. The results showed that approximately 20% obtained a clinical anxiety score and only 10% obtained a clinical anger score. There was a difference in the perception of the quality of life reported by the child and that perceived by the parent. A stepwise regression model showed that total anxiety scores were predicted by sex, quality of life scores from the parents' self-report version, and the total anger score. Another stepwise regression model identified physiological and social anxiety as the best predictors that impact quality of life. Parental well-being actively influences the well-being of children, so it is fundamental to implement preventive programs and promote child well-being by providing parents the most adequate support possible.

Abstract
Disordered sleep is common in autistic children. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a brief behavioural sleep intervention, the 'Sleeping Sound intervention', in primary school-aged autistic children in Australia. A cost-effectiveness analysis was undertaken alongside a randomised controlled trial over a 6-month follow-up period from both a societal and healthcare sector perspective. Resources used by participants were collected from a resource-use questionnaire and administrative data; intervention costs were determined from study records. Mean costs and quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) were compared between the intervention and treatment as usual (TAU) groups. Uncertainty analysis using bootstrapping and sensitivity analyses were conducted. The sample included 245 children, with 123 participants randomised to the intervention group and 122 to TAU. The mean total costs were higher for the Sleeping Sound intervention with a mean difference of A$745 (95% CI 248; 1242; p = 0.003) from a healthcare sector perspective and A$1310 (95% CI 584; 2035, p < 0.001) from a societal perspective. However, the intervention also resulted in greater QALYs compared with TAU, with a mean difference of 0.038 (95% CI 0.004; 0.072; p = 0.028). The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was A$24,419/QALY (95% CI 23,135; 25,703) from a healthcare sector perspective and A$41,922/QALY (95% CI 39,915; 43,928) from a societal perspective; with a probability of being cost-effective of 93.8% and 74.7%, respectively. Findings remained robust in the sensitivity analyses. The Sleeping Sound intervention offers a cost-effective approach in improving sleep in primary school-aged autistic children.Trial registration The trial was registered with the International Trial Registry (ISRCTN14077107).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-reporting of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children is not always feasible. To date, proxy perspectives (Proxy versions 1 and 2) using the EQ-5D-Y-3L have not been explored for its impact on agreement with child self-report. Proxy version 1 requires the proxy to consider their own view of the child's HRQoL (proxy-proxy), while with Proxy version 2, the proxy is asked to respond as they believe their child would self-report their HRQoL (proxy-child). This study compared the inter-rater and intra-proxy agreement (overall and dimension level) using the EQ-5D-Y-3L self, proxy-proxy, and proxy-child reports. METHODS A community-based sample of child (aged 6-12 years) and parent dyads were invited to participate in a semi-structured interview. The child self-completed the EQ-5D-Y-3L independently of the parent who completed the EQ-5D-Y-3L from proxy-proxy and proxy-child perspectives. Agreement was determined using Concordance Correlation Coefficients (CCCs) for the overall (preference-weighted) HRQoL, while agreement at the dimension level was evaluated using Gwet's agreement coefficient (AC1). To assess the differences between the self and the two proxy reports, the Wilcoxon matched-pair signed-rank test was used. RESULTS This study involved 85 child-parent dyads. The agreement between self and proxy overall HRQoL was low (fair) with both proxy-proxy (CCC = 0.28) and proxy-child (CCC = 0.26) reports. The largest discrepancy in the child-proxy agreement at dimension level with both the proxy versions was observed for 'feeling worried, sad or unhappy'. Within this dimension, the proxy-child perspective resulted in a stronger agreement (AC1 = 0.7, good) with child self-report compared with the traditional proxy-proxy perspective (AC1 = 0.58, moderate). Although the preference-weighted HRQoL was consistent across both the proxy perspectives, a significant difference was observed in the EQ VAS scores (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that choice of proxy perspective may have an impact on the problems reported on HRQoL dimensions and EQ VAS scores. However, in this community-based sample of generally healthy children, no significant difference was observed in the inter-rater agreement for child-self and proxy preference-weighted EQ-5D-Y-3L values based on proxy perspectives. While this suggests that preference-weighted data are not sensitive to the choice of perspective, these findings may differ for different HRQoL instruments and for alternative value sets with different properties.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Children may find self-reporting health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) presented in text-based formats difficult, particularly younger children and children with developmental delays or chronic illness. In such cases, pictorial PROMs (where pictorial representations are used alongside or to replace text) may offer a valid alternative. AIM This systematic literature review focused on identifying and describing paediatric PROMs that incorporate pictorial approaches, providing children with more effective means to express their HRQoL. METHODS Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were followed. Seven electronic databases were searched from inception to 1 March 2022. There were no country restrictions applied to the search; all English-language studies were considered for inclusion in the review. Characteristics and development methods of the identified pictorial PROMs were evaluated against context-specific good practice guidelines published by The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). RESULTS A total of 22 paediatric pictorial PROMs, comprising 28 unique versions, were identified. These PROMs were predominantly developed in the USA and the UK, targeting children aged 3-18 years. Likert scales with pictorial anchors, particularly happy-sad faces, were commonly used for response options, appearing in 15 (54%) of the PROMs. Various graphic methods, such as happy-sad faces, cartoons, and thermometers, were adapted to specific content domains. These PROMs covered a wide range of domains, including physical and emotional health and social functioning. Emphasis was placed on content validity, including active child participation in developing pictorial elements. Notably, children's participation was sought during the development of the pictorial elements for 13 (46%) of the PROMs. Various development methods were employed, with 43% of paediatric PROMs using literature reviews, 43% using focus groups, and 32% involving expert consultation. Interviews emerged as the primary method, being employed in 61% of the studies. Additionally, three measures specifically addressed cross-cultural considerations. CONCLUSION Paediatric pictorial PROMs offer child-friendly tools for assessing HRQoL for application with children who find reading and understanding text-based PROMs challenging. There is some evidence that pictorial PROMs facilitate self-report in this population and improve measurement properties compared to text-only PROMs. Further research is needed to develop, validate, and test paediatric pictorial PROMs, with an emphasis on including children from the inception in the co-design process.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and subjective well-being (SWB) of children aged 9-12 years in eastern China, and examine concordance within child self-reported and parent proxy-assessed. METHODS Data was collected from 9 to 12 years old children (including their parents) in Shandong Province in 2018. Participants self-completed a hard-copy questionnaire including Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL)™ 4.0 Short Form 15 Generic Core Scales (hereafter the PedsQL™), Student's Life Satisfaction Scale (SLSS), as well as information on socio-demographic characteristics and self-report health status. Spearman's correlation coefficients and the difference between sub-groups were conducted to assess and compare the agreement on HRQoL and SWB instruments. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to ascertain the number of unique underlying latent factors that were associated with the items covered by the two generic HRQoL and the SWB instruments. The concordance of child self-reported and parent proxy-assessed was analyzed using weighted kappa coefficient and Bland-Altman plots. RESULTS A total of 810 children and 810 parents were invited to participate in the survey. A valid sample of 799 (98.6%) children and 643 (79.4%) parents completed the questionnaire. The child self-reported mean scores were CHU9D = 0.87, PedsQL™ = 83.47, and SLSS = 30.90, respectively. The parent proxy-assessed mean scores were PedsQL™ = 68.61 and SLSS = 31.23, respectively. The child self-reported PedsQL™ was moderately correlated with the CHU9D (r = 0.52). There was a weak correlation between CHU9D and SLSS (r = 0.27). The EFA result found 3 factors whilst seven SLSS items grouped into a standalone factor (factor 3), and the nine dimensions of CHU9D shared two common factors with the PedsQL™ (factor 1 and factor 2). A low level of concordance was observed across all comparisons and in all domains (weighted kappa < 0.20) between parents and their children. Furthermore, a high level of discordance was observed between child self-reported and father proxy-assessed. CONCLUSIONS CHU9D and PedsQL™ instruments have a higher agreement in measuring the HRQoL in children. CHU9D/PedsQL™ and SLSS instruments showed a low agreement and EFA result suggested that measuring SWB in children potentially may provide further information, which might be overlooked by using HRQoL instruments exclusively. Concordance of child self-reported and parent proxy-assessed was poor. Overall, mother-child concordance was higher than father-child concordance.

Abstract
AIM To examine child-led goal setting and evaluation tools and approaches for children with a disability or developmental delay. METHOD Six databases were searched for studies that included population (children aged less than 18 years with disability or developmental delay); construct (child-led goal setting tool or approach); and context (developmental therapy or rehabilitation). The utility of tools and approaches across the goal setting and evaluation process was investigated using abductive content analysis. RESULTS Fifty articles met the inclusion criteria. Three approaches and four tools for child-led goal setting and evaluation were identified. No studies reported the clinimetric properties of tools specifically for child self-respondents. Qualitative analysis revealed six distinct goal phases in which tools and approaches were used, which were synthesized into a new framework for child-led goal setting and evaluation titled DECIDE: Direct children to goal setting; Elicit goal topics and priorities; Construct a goal statement; Indicate baseline goal performance; Develop an action plan to address the goal; and Evaluate goal progress after the intervention. INTERPRETATION Children actively participated in goal setting and evaluation across six DECIDE goal phases. Further clinimetric information is required to support use of goal setting and evaluation tools with child self-respondents. Future research should emphasize the development of multi-phase goal setting tools and approaches for diverse populations of children.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the QUAlity of Life Assessment in Spina bifida for Children (QUALAS-C) and validate the Korean version of the QUALAS-C (QUALAS-C-K). MATERIALS AND METHODS Three urologists translated the QUALAS-C into Korean. Facial and content validity were assessed in the pilot study. Back-translation into English was performed. In the main study, the QUALAS-C-K and Korean version of KIDSCREEN-27 were administered simultaneously. Test-retest reliability was confirmed by re-administering the QUALAS-C-K. Internal consistency was verified using Cronbach's alpha. Factor analysis was performed, and convergent and divergent validity were demonstrated using the Korean version of KIDSCREEN-27. RESULTS A total of 53 children with spina bifida participated in the main study. Cronbach's alpha for the overall instrument determined good internal consistency (0.72-0.85), the intraclass correlation coefficient showed good stability (0.74-0.77), and the factor analysis converged to the same two-factor structure as in the original version. Construct validity revealed weak-to-moderate associations (r ≤ 0.57) between QUALAS-C-K and K-KIDSCREEN-27, indicating that QUALAS-C-K measures different aspects of the HRQOL than K-KIDSCEEN-27. CONCLUSIONS The QUALAS-C-K is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the health-related quality of life of children with SB in Korea.

Abstract
There is a need for tools that can provide a brief assessment of functioning for children with neurodevelopmental conditions, including health-related quality of life (HR-QoL). This study evaluated the psychometric properties of three commonly used and well known HR-QoL measures in a cohort of children presenting to clinical developmental assessment services. The most common diagnoses received in these assessment services were autism spectrum disorders. Findings showed good internal consistency for the PedsQL and the CHU-9D, but not the EQ-5D-Y. This research also found that the CHU-9D, EQ-5D-Y, and PedsQL correlated with relevant functioning domains assessed by the VABS-III. Overall, the measures showed that children with neurodevelopmental conditions experienced poor HR-QoL. The majority of children (>86%) met cut-off criteria for significant health concerns on the PedsQL. On the EQ-5D-Y and CHU-9D, they showed reduced HR-QoL particularly on domains relating to school and homework, being able to join in activities, looking after self, and doing usual activities. This study supports the use of the CHU-9D and PedsQL in this population to assess and potentially track HR-QoL in a broad neurodevelopment paediatric population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a rare neurodegenerative disease that lacks specific and validated patient-centered outcome measures (PCOMs). We aimed to develop and validate a health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaire specific to HSP ("TreatHSP-QoL") that could be used as a PCOM. RESULTS The pilot-items of the TreatHSP-QoL (45 five-level Likert scale items, with values per item between 0 and 4) were developed based on a qualitative data analysis of 54 semi-structured interviews, conducted in person with 36 HSP patients and 18 caregivers. It was then reduced and modified through the validation process to 25 items. The main validation was performed using the online questionnaire in 242 HSP patients and 56 caregivers. The exploratory factor analysis defined five subdomains. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.57 to 0.85 for the subdomains and reached 0.85 for the total score. The test-retest Pearson correlation reached 0.86 (95% Confidence Interval (CI) [0.79, 0.91]). Pearson correlations with the EuroQol-5 Dimension (5 levels) (EQ-5D-5L) and Friedreich Ataxia Rating Scale-Activities of Daily Living (FARS-ADL) questionnaires varied strongly among the subdomains, with the total scores reaching 0.53 (95% CI [0.42, 0.61]) and -0.45 (95% CI [- 0.55, - 0.35]), respectively. The caregiver-patient response Pearson correlation ranged between 0.64 and 0.82 for subdomains and reached 0.65 (95% CI [0.38, 0.81]) for the total score. CONCLUSIONS TreatHSP-QoL can be used in high-quality clinical trials and clinical practice as a disease-specific PCOM (i.e., HRQoL measure) and is also applicable as a proxy questionnaire. Score values between 0 and 100 can be reached, where higher value represents better HRQoL. The Pearson correlations to the EQ-5D-5L and FARS-ADL support the additional value and need of HSP-specific PCOM, while non-specific QoL-assessment and specific clinical self-assessment tools already exist. All in all, the results demonstrate good validity and reliability for this new patient-centered questionnaire for HSP.

Abstract
Background Post-concussion symptoms (PCS) are a common consequence of pediatric traumatic brain injury (pTBI). They include cognitive, emotional, and physical disturbances. To address the lack of age-adapted instruments assessing PCS after pTBI, this study examines the psychometric properties of the German 17-item post-TBI version of the Postconcussion Symptom Inventory (PCSI-SR8) in children aged 8-12 years. The study also aims to establish reference values based on data from a pediatric general population sample to better estimate the prevalence and clinical relevance of PCS after pTBI in clinical and research settings. Methods A total of 132 children aged 8-12 years from a post-acute TBI sample and 1,047 from a general population sample were included in the analyses. The questionnaire was translated from English into German and linguistically validated using forward and backward translation and cognitive debriefing to ensure comprehensibility of the developed version. Reliability and validity were examined; descriptive comparisons were made with the results of the English study. Measurement invariance (MI) analyses between TBI and general population samples were conducted prior to establishing reference values. Factors contributing to the total and scale scores of the PCSI-SR8 were identified using regression analyses. Reference values were calculated using percentiles. Results Most children (TBI: 83%; general population: 79%) rated at least one symptom as "a little" bothersome. The German PCSI-SR8 met the psychometric assumptions in both samples and was comparable to the English version. The four-factor structure comprising physical, emotional, cognitive, and fatigue symptoms could be replicated. The MI assumption was retained. Therefore, reference values could be provided to determine the symptom burden of patients in relation to a comparable general population. Clinical relevance of reported symptoms is indicated by a score of 8, which is one standard deviation above the mean of the general population sample. Conclusion The German version of the PCSI-SR8 is suitable for assessment of PCS after pTBI. The reference values allow for a more comprehensive evaluation of PCS following pTBI. Future research should focus on validation of the PCSI-SR8 in more acute phases of TBI, psychometric examination of the pre-post version, and child-proxy comparisons.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examined the inter-rater agreement between child-self and parental proxy health-related quality of life (HRQoL) ratings (overall and domain level) using two different generic child-specific measures, the Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM), in a community-based sample of Australian children. A secondary objective was to investigate the impact of age on child-parent agreement across the dimensions of the two measures. METHODS A total of 85 child-parent dyads (children aged 6-12 years) recruited from the community completed the self and proxy versions of the CHU9D and the PedsQLTM, respectively. The inter-rater agreement was estimated using Concordance Correlation Coefficients (CCC) and Gwet's Agreement Coefficient (AC1) for the overall sample and across age-groups. RESULTS Agreement was low for overall HRQoL for both the CHU9D (CCC = 0.28) and the PedsQLTM (CCC = 0.39). Across the CHU9D dimensions, agreement was the highest for 'sad' (AC1 = 0.83) and lowest for 'tired' (AC1 = 0.31). The PedsQLTM demonstrated stronger agreement (AC1 = 0.41-0.6) for the physical health dimension but weaker for the psychosocial dimensions (AC1 < 0.4). Except for the 'tired' dimension, agreement was consistent across age-groups with the CHU9D, whilst the PedsQLTM showed poor agreement for most of the psychosocial health items among the older age-groups only (8-10 and 11-12 years). CONCLUSION This study highlights that the agreement between child and parent proxy reported HRQoL may be influenced by both the measure used and the age of the child. These findings may have implications for the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions and services in child populations when both child and proxy perspectives are considered in the assessment of child HRQoL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to test the inter-rater reliability, construct validity, and feasibility of the modified "Which Health Approaches and Treatments Are You Using?" (WHAT) questionnaires in pediatric oncology; Methods: Parent-child dyads were invited to complete self- and proxy-report-modified WHAT, Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory, demographics, a diary of the child's recent use of CHA, and a questionnaire assessing the aspects of feasibility. Parents were asked to complete a satisfaction of their children's use of the CHA survey; Results: Twenty-four dyads completed the study. The mean weighted kappa showed strong inter-rater reliability (k = 0.77, SE = 0.056), and strong agreements between the modified WHAT and the diary (self-report [k = 0.806, SE = 0.046] and proxy-report [k = 0.894, SE = 0.057]). Significant relationships were found only between recent and non-recent CHA users in relation to the easy access to CHA (self-report [p = 0.02], proxy-report [p < 0.001]). The mean scores of the feasibility scale (out of 7.0) for the self- and proxy-report were 5.64 (SD = 0.23) and 5.81 (SD = 0.22), respectively, indicating the feasibility of the modified WHAT; Conclusions: The findings provide initial evidence of the reliability and validity of the modified WHAT and their feasibility. Further research is needed to test the theoretical relationships and further explore the validity and reliability of the modified WHAT.

Abstract
Children with celiac disease may face challenges in managing a gluten-free diet during their daily interactions and activities. The objective of this study was to compare how children with celiac disease manage their gluten-free diet and participate in food-related activities in Italy and Israel and to assess their quality of life. The previously validated Children's Activities Report (CD-Chart) and the Disease-specific Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children with Celiac Disease (CDDUX) were administered in Italy to children aged 8-16 diagnosed with CD (n = 39). The results were compared to data that had been previously gathered from Israeli children with CD (n = 106). The CD-Chart demonstrated satisfactory internal reliability within each cultural group (Italy: α = 0.82; Israel: α = 0.76). Mann-Whitney U-tests indicated significant differences between the two groups. The Italian children exhibited a significantly higher preference for participating in the activities compared to the Israelis (U = 3283.50, p < 0.001). Nonetheless, the Italian children displayed a notable decrease in their level of involvement in the preparation required before engaging in different activities (U = 760.50, p < 0.001). Moreover, they exhibited significantly lower self-determination in this preparatory process compared to the Israeli children (U = 726.00, p < 0.001). Significant group differences were found between the CDDUX children's self-reports and parents' proxy reports in the Israeli group but not in the Italian group. The CD-Chart revealed both shared and distinct participation characteristics in daily food-related activities across different cultural contexts. By incorporating the CD-Chart and the CDDUX, healthcare professionals can emphasize crucial aspects of day-to-day health management and guide them in establishing suitable intervention objectives to enhance effective health self-management.

Abstract
CONTEXT Although specialized pediatric palliative care (SPPC) teams increasingly provide home-based care, the evidence of its impact has not yet been systematically evaluated. OBJECTIVES To examine the impact of home-based SPPC in children and adolescents with life-limiting conditions, regarding place of death, quality of life and symptom burden. METHODS We searched Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science and Scopus for studies comparing children and adolescents with life-limiting conditions receiving home-based SPPC with children and adolescents not receiving home-based SPPC, or studies reporting before-and-after measurements. We included studies that reported on place of death, quality of life and/or symptoms. Two authors independently screened the articles, extracted data, and assessed quality. Results were synthesized as a systematic narrative synthesis and meta-analysis, using a random-effects model. RESULTS We included five studies, which reported on 392 children and adolescents. Meta-analysis showed that receiving home-based SPPC was associated with a more than fourfold increased likelihood of home death (risk ratio 4.64, 95% confidence interval 3.06-7.04; 3 studies; n=296). Most studies reported improved quality of life and reduced symptom burden. The included studies were of low to moderate quality with a high risk of bias. CONCLUSION This systematic review suggests that home-based SPPC is associated with increased likelihood of home death, and might be associated with improved quality of life and reduced symptom burden. The small number of studies and an overall high risk of bias, however, makes the overall strength of evidence low.

Abstract
Background The study aimed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and to estimate the health utility of pediatric patients with hematological malignancies (HMs) in China. Method A cross-sectional study recruited a series of pediatric inpatients diagnosed with HM from November 2018 to May 2019 in the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. Subjects were interviewed to collect sociodemographic information about themselves and their guardians. The EQ-5D-Y was completed by each patient to rate their own HRQoL, which later derived the health utility. The health status was also assessed by clinicians following the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) system. Upon the descriptive analysis and univariate analysis, multivariate generalized linear models were built to explore the associations of risk factors with HRQoL measures of utility, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, and the five EQ-5D-Y domains. Results The 96 subjects had a mean age of 10.5 years and included 62 (64.4%) boys. There were 46 (47.9%) and 25 (26.0%) children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, respectively. The means (SD) of utility and EQ-VAS scores were 0.88 (0.10) and 85.8 (15.1), respectively. Twenty-six (27.1%) patients were graded poor health by the ECOG standard (score 2/3). Both univariate and multivariate analyses found strong correlations between ECOG and HRQoL. After adjusting for covariates, poor ECOG score was significantly associated with an impaired utility and VAS of -0.103 and -8.65, respectively. With regard to individual HRQoL domains, worse ECOG was more likely to report health problems with an increased risk of 2.94 to 12.50; residence, income, guardians' education, and disease duration were also found to be significantly related to either the utility or certain health domains. Conclusion The HRQoL of Chinese pediatric patients with HM is considered relatively poor and of great concern to healthcare. With the strong correlations between EQ-5D-Y-related HRQoL measures and the traditional clinical index ECOG, the EQ-5D-Y is able to provide valuable evidence for clinical decision-making at the individual level. At the same time, its health utility can inform resource allocation at a macro level.

Abstract
Background Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common cancer in children. As the 5-year survival rate has been improved to over 80%, more emphasis is now placed on reducing therapy toxicities and enhancing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients during treatment. Our objective was to measure health utility of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pALL) patients in China, examine utility weights of different treatment phases and influencing factors of health utility, as well as identify which aspects of HRQoL were most impaired. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC) Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China from April to November 2021. Primary caregivers of 247 patients completed the assessment by CHU9D-CHN and health utility scores were computed for all the patients and stratified by treatment phases. Various multivariable models were constructed and the best was chosen to identify independent factors associated with utility scores. Factors affecting the most impaired dimensions were also examined. Results The overall mean (SD) health utility score was 0.79 (±0.17) and significantly increased from induction (0.73 [±0.19], P < 0.001) to consolidation (0.74 [±0.18]), and to maintenance (0.82 [±0.16]). After adjusting for potentially influencing factors, utility scores in induction (Beta = -0.086, P = 0.005) and consolidation (Beta = -0.074, P = 0.043) were constantly lower than those during maintenance. In item-level analysis, lower age and induction phase were found to be significantly associated with high severity reported on the "school work/homework" dimension. Additionally, only the induction phase (vs. maintenance, OR = 2.24, P = 0.016) was independently associated with the high severity level reported on the "able to join in activities" dimension. Conclusions This is the first study that measured health utility of children with pALL in China. Mean health utility scores increased from induction to maintenance. These provided important utility estimates that help inform future health economic models. The phrasing of "School work/homework" in CHU9D-CHN could be further improved. More efforts are needed to design and implement specific interventions targeting at the dimension "able to join in activities" for enhancing HRQoL of children with pALL in China.
