Abstract
Objective Worldwide, there is a growing trend that college students are consuming more and more sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs). In order to develop effective intervention strategies, it is important to explore what social-cognitive factors impact on college students' SSB consumption. Building on the temporal self-regulation theory (TST), the current study aimed to examine the effects of intention, behavioral prepotency, and self-regulatory capacity on SSB consumption among college students. Design Data were collected from five hundred Chinese college students online. Participants self-reported their intention, behavioral prepotency (environmental cues and habits), self-regulatory capacity, and behaviors of SSB consumption. Results Study findings showed that intention, behavioral prepotency, and self-regulatory capacity accounted for 32.9% of variance in SSB consumption. In terms of the direct effects, intention, behavioral prepotency, and self-regulatory capacity were significantly associated with the SSB consumption among college students. In addition, self-regulatory capacity and habits but not the environmental cues showed significant moderation effects on the intention-SSB consumption path, indicating that individual factors rather than environmental cues influenced the intention-behavior path of SSB consumption among college students. Conclusion Findings of the current study demonstrated that the TST can be used to explain and understand the impacts of social-cognitive factors on college students' SSB consumption. Future research can apply TST to develop effective intervention programs targeting the reduction of SSB consumption among college students.

Abstract
The overconsumption of sugar sweetened beverages is an increasing public health concern. Understanding the socio-cognitive determinants that drive such consumption could inform the development of interventions to reduce sugar sweetened beverage consumption. The aim of the present review and meta-analysis was to determine the strength of associations between socio-cognitive determinants and the amount and frequency of sugar sweetened beverage consumption among young people. A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. A search was performed using the following databases: PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Scopus, ProQuest, and PubMed. The key search terms were: (1) children, adolescents, young adults; (2) sugar sweetened beverage consumption, choice or purchasing behaviour; and (3) socio-cognitive determinants related to sugar sweetened beverage consumption. The search identified 4325 papers, with 22 papers remaining after screening. Two separate meta-analyses were performed, one for amount (n = 14) and one for frequency (n = 8) of consumption. The most strongly associated determinants with amount of sugar sweetened beverage consumed were habit, intention to consume, and attitudes, whereas the most strongly associated determinants with frequency of consumption were intentions, injunctive norms, and descriptive norms. Comparisons between the meta-analyses revealed two distinct differences: injunctive norms were more strongly correlated with frequency of consumption, and self-efficacy with amount consumed. It was suggested that interventions that focus on multiple determinants, including components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour may result in the largest reductions in consumption. Specifically, focussing on changing attitudes, norms and habits, and increasing perceived behavioural control related to sugar sweetened beverages may be maximally effective in reducing consumption behaviour.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to examine the factors associated with low sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption and intention to avoid these products as well as investigate the role of different types of social norms in the adoption of this behaviour. STUDY DESIGN This study reports the results of a secondary data analysis from a cross-sectional telephone survey. METHODS A total of 1000 adults were randomly recruited in the province of Québec, Canada, using a random-digit dialling procedure. Eligibility criteria were to be aged between 18 and 64 years; able to answer a questionnaire in French or English; and to reside in the province of Québec. SSB consumption, social norms and variables from the theory of planned behaviour were assessed by means of a questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine factors associated with behaviour and intention. RESULTS Consuming <1 SSB per day was significantly associated with intention, perceived behavioural control, and risk perception about tooth decay. Descriptive (perceived prevalence in the close surroundings of one person) and perceived societal norms (perceived broad societal approval/disapproval of the behaviour) were associated with behaviour. All theory of planned behaviour variables (including injunctive norm) and risk perception pertaining to chronic diseases predicted intention to avoid the consumption of ≥1 SSB per day. Sex, age, income, and risk perception pertaining to chronic diseases were associated with perceived societal disapproval of SSB consumption. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms the importance of social norms in the prediction of SSB consumption but also highlights the need to address motivation and capacities in public health interventions to reduce SSB consumption.

Abstract
The paper addresses the consumption issue in the post-Covid-19 pandemic era, finding a possible interpretative model in the theory of planned behaviour. To this end, a sample was selected, and multivariate statistical analysis showed that the aspects of sustainability, health and well-living represent possible keys to understanding purchasing and consumption behaviour in the recovery and return to "normality". The mass media, the advice of experts, and the optimism of small things (from an emotional and social point of view) also have a correlated effect on the purchase of food, health and the environment, as well as production methods, origin and supply chain, packaging and ethical and social responsibility, in line with the much desired ecological transition.

Abstract
Psychosocial factors may influence consumption patterns of sweet snacks and sugar sweetened beverages (SSB), which are potential risk factors for obesity among African American (AA) adolescents. We used multivariable linear and logistic regression models to examine cross-sectional associations among psychosocial factors, sweet snacks and SSB consumption, and BMI z-scores in 437 AA adolescents aged 9-14 years living in low-income neighborhoods in Baltimore City, U.S.A. Mean caloric intake from sugar was 130.64 ± 88.37 kcal. Higher sweet snacks consumption was significantly associated with lower self-efficacy (adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR) = 0.81; 95% CI = 0.71 to 0.93) and lower food intentions scores (0.43; 0.30 to 0.61). Higher SSB consumption was associated with lower outcome expectancies (aOR = 0.98; 95% CI = 0.96-0.99), lower self-efficacy (0.98; 0.96 to 0.99), and lower food intentions (0.91; 0.87 to 0.95). No significant association was found between SSB and sweet snacks consumption and weight status. Psychosocial factors may play a role in sugar consumption behaviors among AA adolescents in low-income neighborhoods. Further studies are needed to improve our understanding of causal mechanisms of this association.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There are numerous health effects associated with excess sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption. Interventions aimed at reducing population-level consumption require understanding of the relevant barriers and facilitators. This study aimed to identify the variables with the strongest relationship with intentions to reduce SSB consumption from a suite of variables derived from the literature. DESIGN Random-digit dialling of landline and mobile phones was used to survey adults using computer-assisted telephone interviews. The outcome variable was 'likelihood of reducing SSB consumption in next 6 months', and the predictor variables were demographics, SSB attitudes and behaviour, health risk perceptions and social/environmental exposure. SETTING Australia. PARTICIPANTS A subsample of 1630 regular SSB consumers from a nationally representative sample of 3430 Australian adults (38 % female, 51 % aged 18-45 years, 56 % overweight or obese). RESULTS Respondents indicated that they were 'not at all' (30·1 %), 'somewhat' (43·9 %) and 'very likely' (25·3 %) to reduce SSB consumption. Multivariate nominal logistic regressions showed that perceiving future health to be 'very much' at risk was the strongest predictor of intention to reduce SSB consumption (OR = 8·1, 95 % CI 1·8, 37·0, P < 0·01). Other significant predictors (P < 0·01) included self-perceptions about too much consumption, habitual consumption, difficulty reducing consumption and likelihood of benefitting from reduced consumption. CONCLUSIONS Health risk perceptions had the strongest relationship with intentions to reduce consumption. Age and consumption perceptions were also predictors in the multivariate models, whereas social/environmental exposure variables were not. Interventions may seek to incorporate strategies to denormalise consumption practices and increase knowledge about perceived susceptibility to health risks.

Abstract
Sugar-sweetened beverage consumption is related to adverse health outcomes such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The present research further examined the utility of the temporal self-regulation theory in predicting sugar-sweetened beverage consumption. In addition, the research aimed to identify salient cues that trigger intake. Two-hundred and eighty-seven participants were recruited using convenience sampling in US and Australian populations. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used, and the final model accounted for 27.1% of the variance in consumption, providing partial support for the temporal self-regulation theory (ƒ2 = 0.37). Intention accounted for a significant 7.0% of variance (R2 = 0.07, p < .001), behavioural prepotency variables (past behaviour, habit, and cues) together combined for an additional 15.1% of variance (R2 = 0.15, p < .001), but neither measure of self-regulatory capacity (trait self-control, inhibition) was a significant predictor. No cues emerged as unique predictors, however the findings suggest that consumption may be influenced by a combination of cues across different situations. Behavioural prepotency moderated the intention-behaviour relationship such that as behavioural prepotency increased, the greater the influence intention had on behaviour. Further support for the role of both intention and automatic processes in sugar-sweetened beverage consumption was garnered, but more research is needed to identify when specific cues influence consumption most.

Abstract
Nutrition interventions developed using behaviour theory may be more effective than those without theoretical underpinnings. This study aimed to document the number of theory-based healthy eating interventions, the involvement of dietitians/nutritionists and the behaviour theories employed from 2000 to 2020. We conducted a review of publications related to healthy eating interventions that used behaviour change theories. Interventional studies published in English between 2000 and 2020 were retrieved from searching Medline, Cinahl, Embase, Psycinfo and Cochrane Central. Citation, country of origin, presence or absence of dietitian/nutritionist authors, participants, dietary behaviours, outcomes, theories and any behaviour change techniques (BCTs) stated were extracted. The publication trends on a yearly basis were recorded. A total of 266 articles were included. The number of theory-based interventions increased over the two decades. The number of studies conducted by dietitians/nutritionists increased, but since 2012, increases have been driven by other researchers. Social cognitive theory was the most used behaviour theory. Dietitians/nutritionists contributed to growth in publication of theory-based healthy eating interventions, but the proportion of researchers from other professions engaged in this field increased markedly. The reasons for this growth in publications from other professions is unknown but conjectured to result from greater prominence of dietary behaviours within the context of an obesity epidemic.
