Abstract
Advancements in technology and technical expertise increasingly enable neurointerventionalists to deliver safer and more effective endovascular treatments to cancers of the brain, spine, head, and neck. In addition to established neuro-oncological interventions such as pre-surgical tumor embolization and percutaneous ablation, newer modalities focused on direct arterial infusion of chemotherapy, radioisotopes, and radiosensitizers continue to gain traction as complementary treatment options, while stem cell-mediated delivery of theranostic nanoparticles and oncolytic virus are being explored for even greater specificity in targeting cancers across the blood-brain barrier. This article aims to provide an overview of the current state of the art and future directions for the field of interventional neuro-oncology, as well as opportunities and challenges presented by this emerging treatment modality.

Abstract
Osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, often resulting from low-energy trauma, markedly impair the quality of life of elderly individuals. The present retrospective study focused on the clinical efficacy of unilateral percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in the treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures. A total of 68 patients, representing 92 vertebral bodies, who underwent the unilateral PVP technique from March 2020 to January 2023 were evaluated. Key parameters such as visual analogue scale (VAS) values, Oswestry disability index (ODI) scores, Cobb angle measurements, and anterior vertebral height (AVH) were documented pre- and post-surgery. The mean follow-up period was 15.41±3.74 months. The mean pre-operative VAS score was 8.08±0.79, which was significantly reduced to 2.25±0.71 by 24 h post-surgery and stabilized at 1.58±0.51 by the final follow-up. The ODI showed a significant improvement from a pre-operative average of 67.75±7.91 to 19.74±2.90 post-surgery, and was maintained at a low level of 28.00±4.89 at the last assessment. Radiological evaluations revealed significant alterations in Cobb angle and AVH post-operation. Notably, during the follow-up, eight patients developed new compression fractures in different vertebral segments. In conclusion, the unilateral PVP method is safe and efficient for the management of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.

Abstract
Background Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is a common treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). Perioperative bleeding is usually rare, so there are few reports of shock. However, we developed shock after treating a case of OVCF of the 5th thoracic vertebra with PVP. Case presentation An 80 years old female patient received PVP due to OVCF of the 5th thoracic vertebra. The operation was successfully completed and the patient returned to the ward safely after the operation. At 90 min after operation, she developed shock, which was induced by subcutaneous hemorrhage up to 1500 ml at the puncture site. Before using vascular embolization, transfusion and blood transfusion were used to maintain blood pressure, and local ice bag compression was used to reduce swelling and stop bleeding, which achieved successful hemostasis. She recovered and discharged after 15 days, with the hematoma having absorbed. There was no recurrence during the 17-month follow-up. Conclusion Although PVP is considered to be a safe and effective method to treat OVCF, the possible hemorrhagic shock still needs to arouse the vigilance of surgeons.

Abstract
Pain is the most common and fearsome symptom in cancer patients, particularly in the advanced stage of disease. In cancer pain management, the first option is represented by analgesic drugs, whereas surgery is rarely used. Prior to considering surgical intervention, less invasive locoregional procedures are available from the wide pain management arsenal. In this review article, comprehensive information about the most commonly used locoregional options available for treating cancer pain focusing on interventional radiology (neurolysis, augmentation techniques, and embolization) and interventional radiotherapy were provided, also highlighting the potential ways to increase the effectiveness of treatments.

Abstract
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is now widely used in percutaneous vertebro plasty (PVP) and percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP). However, studies showed that the radiopacifiers (zirconia, barium sulfate, etc.) added to PMMA will have a negative impact on its use, e.g. barium sulfate will weaken the mechanical properties of bone cement and lead to bone absorption and aseptic loosening. Iodine is an element existing in the human body and has good imaging performance. Iodine contrast agent has been used in clinic for many years and has abundant clinical data. Therefore, using iodine instead of barium sulfate may be a promising choice. In this paper, the effect of different content of diatrizoate sodium (DTA, C11H8I3N2NaO4) on the properties of PMMA was studied and compared with the traditional PMMA bone cement containing 30 wt% barium sulfate. The mechanical properties, setting properties, radiopacity, and biocompatibility of bone cement were evaluated. The compressive strength of PMMA bone cement with 20 wt% DTA can reach 76.38 MPa. DTA released from bone cement up to 14 days accounted for only 2.3% of its dosage. The water contact angle was 62.3°. The contrast of bone cement on X-ray film was comparable to that of bone cement containing 30 wt% barium. The hemolysis rate was lower than 4%, and there was no obvious hemolysis. PMMA with 20 wt% DTA can maintain the relative growth rate of MC3T3-E1 and L929 cells above 80%. The results show that adding 20 wt% DTA into PMMA can obtain good radiopacity while maintaining its mechanical properties, setting properties, and biocompatibility. DTA can be used as a promising candidate material for PMMA bone cement radiopacifier.

Abstract
Abstract
Comprehensive treatment for vertebral metastatic lesions commonly involves vertebral augmentation (vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty) to relieve pain and stabilize the spine followed by multiple sessions of radiotherapy. We propose to combine vertebral augmentation and radiotherapy into a single treatment by adding 32P, a β-emitting radionuclide, to bone cement, thereby enabling spinal brachytherapy to be performed without irradiating the spinal cord. The goal of this study was to address key dosimetry and safety questions prior to performing extensive animal studies. The 32P was in the form of hydroxyapatite powder activated by neutron bombardment in a nuclear reactor. We performed ex vivo dosimetry experiments to establish criteria for safe placement of the cement within the sheep vertebral body. In an in vivo study, we treated three control ewes and three experimental ewes with brachytherapy cement containing 2.23–3.03 mCi 32P ml−1 to identify the preferred surgical approach, to determine if 32P leaches from the cement and into the blood, urine, or feces, and to identify unexpected adverse effects. Our ex vivo experiments showed that cement with 4 mCi 32P ml−1 could be safely implanted in the vertebral body if the cement surface is at least 4 mm from the spinal cord in sheep and 5 mm from the spinal cord in humans. In vivo, a lateral retroperitoneal surgical approach, ventral to the transverse processes, was identified as easy to perform while allowing a safe distance to the spinal cord. The blood, urine, and feces of the sheep did not contain detectable levels of 32P, and the sheep did not experience any neurologic or other adverse effects from the brachytherapy cement. These results demonstrate, on a preliminary level, the relative safety of this brachytherapy cement and support additional development and testing.
