Abstract
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a painful chronic condition that significantly impacts the quality of life, posing challenges for clinical management. Given the difficulty of understanding the pathophysiology and finding new therapeutics, this study explored the effects of a medicinal plant, E. brasiliensis, in an FM model induced by reserpine in Swiss mice. Animals were treated with saline 0.9% (vehicle), duloxetine 10 mg/kg (positive control), or hydroalcoholic extract of E. brasiliensis leaves 300 mg/kg (HEEb). Nociceptive parameters, as well as locomotion, motor coordination, strength, anxiety, and depressive-like behaviors, were evaluated for 10 days. After that, the brain and blood were collected for further analysis of cytokines (interleukin 1? and interleukin 6), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and the immunocontents of total and phosphorylated Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB). The results demonstrated that the acute and prolonged treatment with HEEb was able to reduce both mechanical and thermal nociception. It was also possible to observe an increase in the strength, without changing locomotion and motor coordination parameters. Interestingly, treatment with HEEb reduces anxious and depressive-like behaviors. Finally, we observed a reduction in inflammatory cytokines in the hippocampus of animals treated with HEEb, while an increase in BDNF was observed in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). However, no alterations related to total and phosphorylated TrkB receptor expression were found. Our study demonstrated the antinociceptive and emotional effects of HEEb in mice, possibly acting on neuroinflammatory and neurotrophic mechanisms. These data provide initial evidence about the E. brasiliensis potential for treating chronic pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although it is well known that obesity is frequently associated with reduced levels of habitual physical activity (HPA), which contributes to determining severe oxidative stress and inflammatory state, this association is however unknown in preschoolers so far. This study aimed to investigate the association between biomarkers of redox status and cytokines with different patterns of HPA according to the adiposity of preschoolers. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in 50 preschoolers (25 overweight/obese, OW/OB and 25 eutrophic, EU), matched for age, sex, economic level, and maternal education. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities, substances reactive to thiobarbituric acid (TBARS), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors (sTNFRs), and leptin levels were evaluated. HPA levels were evaluated by accelerometry (ActiGraph GT9X accelerometer). Correlation, multiple linear regression, and partial least squares regression analysis were used to determine the association between redox status biomarkers and cytokines with different patterns of HPA (HPA level, bouts of moderate to vigorous physical activity [MVPA], and multivariate pattern of HPA) in EU and OW/OB preschoolers. RESULTS OW/OB preschoolers had lower CAT activity, higher levels of TAC, TBARS, and cytokines, and similar levels of HPA to EU preschoolers. In EU preschoolers, SOD activity exhibited a stronger negative association with moderate intensity ranges of HPA (R2 = 0.18), and negative correlation with sTNFRs (r = -0.40 to -0.46). TBARS had a stronger positive association with ranges of light intensity in the multivariate pattern of HPA (R2 = 0.10). In OW/OB preschoolers, the HPA multivariate associative pattern was predominantly from vigorous intensity ranges. Thus, SOD activity had a positive association with the multivariate pattern of HPA (R2 = 0.38) and MVPA bouts (β [95% CI] = 0.457 [0.0026. 0.0576]). TAC had a negative association with the multivariate pattern of HPA (R2 = 0.38) and MVPA bouts (β [95% CI] = -0.718 [-0.0025. -0.0003]). Additionally, leptin levels were lower in OW/OB preschoolers engaged in vigorous physical activity (VPA) (8000-9999 counts/min) for longer periods of time. CONCLUSION The results of this study indicate that OW/OB preschoolers have higher levels of oxidative stress biomarkers and pro-inflammatory cytokines compared to EU preschoolers. Moreover, VPA may exert antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects in OW/OB preschoolers.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Eugenia brasiliensis Lam., popularly known as "grumixama" or "Brazilian cherry", is widely used in folk medicine with astringent, diuretic, energizing, anti-rheumatic, and anti-inflammatory properties. AIM OF THE STUDY Despite its traditional use, detailed toxicological studies of Eugenia brasiliensis are few. Thus, in the current study, we evaluate the toxicological effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Eugenia brasiliensis (HEEb) and its antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS We used male, and female Swiss mice. Acute toxicity study was performed following the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) guideline 425, and subacute toxicity was assessed following OECD guideline 407. We observed behavioral responses, in addition to hematological, biochemical, and histological evaluations. The antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity of HEEb were assessed using the Carrageenan-induced mechanical allodynia and paw edema model. Mechanical allodynia, levels of inflammatory cytokines, and oxidative damage were evaluated. RESULTS The treatment with HEEb was not able to generate important toxicological alterations. Moreover, doses of 100 and 300 mg/kg of HEEb were able to reduce mechanical allodynia, paw edema, and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6), decrease malondialdehyde and increase superoxide dismutase enzyme activity in the paw. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that HEEb does not present important toxic effects. Additionally, an important antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant potential were observed.

Abstract
This study explores the anti-atherosclerotic effects of bee bread in the context of oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis phenomena in an obesity animal model, and its vitamin composition. Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with a normal diet (Normal group) and a high-fat diet (HFD) to induce obesity. After 6 weeks, obese rats that received the HFD were treated either with distilled water (Ob group), bee bread at 0.5 g per kg per day (Ob + Bb group), or orlistat at 10 mg per kg per day (Ob + Or group) concomitant with the HFD for another 6 weeks. Bee bread significantly improved atherosclerotic changes by enhancing the immunoexpressions of Nrf2/Keap1, impeding the immunoexpressions of NF-κβ downstream proteins, and intensifying Bcl-2 upregulation, attributed to the improvement in mast cell adherence and collagen deposition in the aortic wall of the Ob + Bb group. We have demonstrated that the treatment with bee bread attenuates the progression of atherosclerosis through its inhibition of vascular oxidative stress, and retardation of inflammatory reaction and apoptosis in obese rats, indicating its potential therapeutic targets for obesity-related vascular diseases. This could be partly attributed to the components of vitamins such as vitamins A, C and E that are present in bee bread, which need further study for the exact molecular mechanism of action.

Abstract
Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for the pathogenesis of several diseases, such as obesity, hypertension, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. In addition to interfering with serum concentrations of cholesterol and triglycerides, hyperlipidemia is involved in oxidative stress increase and reduction of the endogenous antioxidant defenses. The fruit peel of Annona crassiflora crude extract (CEAc) and its polyphenols-rich fraction (PFAc) were investigated against hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia and hepatic oxidative stress in Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemic mice. Lipid parameters in serum, feces and liver, as well as hepatic oxidative status, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant defense systems were analyzed. Pre-treatment with CEAc for 12 days decreased hepatic triglycerides and total cholesterol, and similar to PFAc, increased the high-density lipoprotein level. There were reductions in lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation, as well as restoration of the glutathione defense system and total thiol content in the liver of the hyperlipidemic mice treated with PFAc. The fruit peel of A. crassiflora, a promising natural source of bioactive molecules, showed a potential lipid-lowering action and hepatoprotective activities triggered by reduction of oxidative damage and maintenance of the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems impaired by the hyperlipidemic state.

Abstract
The Myrtaceae is one of the most common plant families in Brazil, including >1000 species of native fruit spread from North to South, where around 50% of all species are endemic to the Atlantic Rain Forest Biome. Most Brazilian species belong to Eugenia, Campomanesia, Psidium and Myrciaria genera. In general, they are characterized by the presence of leaves opposite, simple, entire, with pellucid glands containing ethereal oils and produces berry-like, fleshy fruits with a wide diversity of beneficial characteristics. Several parts of these plants are widely used in regional folk medicine as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, to treat gastrointestinal disorders, and so on. Some species have already been studied and most of their metabolic effects are attributed to the presence of polyphenols, carotenoids as well as sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes. In addition, the Myrtaceae family has great economic potential, because of the sensory characteristics which encourages their commercial exploitation plus the presence of phytochemicals which play an important role in managing several degenerative chronic diseases besides representing a hotspot of technological innovation for food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical purposes. In this context, this review discusses about the importance of some Eugenia genera representatives such as Eugenia uniflora, Eugenia stipitata, Eugenia brasiliensis, Eugenia pyriformis and Eugenia dysenterica, emphasizing its profile of bioactive compounds as well as the knowledge of the nutritional and functional fruit potential, providing information for further studies aiming to stimulate the cultivation of Brazilian wild berries, for consumption and new food ingredients.
