Abstract
An efficient mixed molecular dynamics/quantum mechanics model has been applied to the water cluster system. The use of the MP2 method and correlation consistent basis sets, with appropriate correction for BSSE, allows for the accurate calculation of electronic and free energies for the formation of clusters of 2-10 water molecules. This approach reveals new low energy conformers for (H(2)O)(n=7,9,10). The water heptamer conformers comprise five different structural motifs ranging from a three-dimensional prism to a quasi-planar book structure. A prism-like structure is favored energetically at low temperatures, but a chair-like structure is the global Gibbs free energy minimum past 200 K. The water nonamers exhibit less complexity with all the low energy structures shaped like a prism. The decamer has 30 conformers that are within 2 kcal/mol of the Gibbs free energy minimum structure at 298 K. These structures are categorized into four conformer classes, and a pentagonal prism is the most stable structure from 0 to 320 K. Results can be used as benchmark values for empirical water models and density functionals, and the method can be applied to larger water clusters.

Abstract
Nano-sized clusters of various materials are recent experimental targets, since they exhibit size-dependent physico-chemical properties. A vast amount of literature is available on the study of molecular clusters but general methods for systematic evolution of their growth are rather scarce. The present work reports a molecular cluster building algorithm based on the electrostatic guidelines, followed by ab initio investigations, enabled by the application of molecular tailoring approach. Applications of the algorithm for generating geometries and interaction energies of large molecular clusters of zinc sulfide, benzene, and water are presented.

Abstract
In this paper we report experimental and theoretical studies concerning the thermal behavior of some organotin-Ti(IV) oxides employed as precursors for TiO(2)/SnO(2) semiconducting based composites, with photocatalytic properties. The organotin-TiO(2) supported materials were obtained by chemical reactions of SnBu(3)Cl (Bu = butyl), TiCl(4) with NH(4)OH in ethanol, in order to impregnate organotin oxide in a TiO(2) matrix. A theoretical model was developed to support experimental procedures. The kinetics parameters: frequency factor (A), activation energy, and reaction order (n) can be estimated through artificial intelligence methods. Genetic algorithm, fuzzy logic, and Petri neural nets were used in order to determine the kinetic parameters as a function of temperature. With this in mind, three precursors were prepared in order to obtain composites with Sn/TiO(2) ratios of 0% (1), 15% (2), and 30% (3) in weight, respectively. The thermal behavior of products (1-3) was studied by thermogravimetric experiments in oxygen.

Abstract
The recently developed self-consistent-charge density functional tight binding (SCCDFTB) method provides an accurate and inexpensive quantum mechanical solution to many molecular systems of interests. To examine the performance of the SCCDFTB method on (liquid) water, the most fundamental yet indispensable molecule in biological systems, we report here the simulation results of water in sizes ranging from molecular clusters to the liquid state. The latter simulation was achieved through the use of the linear scaling divide-and-conquer approach. The results of liquid water simulation indicate that the SCCDFTB method can describe the structural and energetics of liquid water in qualitative agreement with experiments, and the results for water clusters suggest potential future improvements of the SCCDFTB method.
