Abstract
Synthesizing nanoparticles in biotemplates has been cited as one of the most promising way to obtain monodispersed inorganic nanoparticles. In this method, uniform voids in porous materials serve as hosts to confine the synthesized nanoparticles. DNA template can be described as a smart glue for assembling nanoscale building blocks. Here we investigate the photocatalytic, antibacterial, cytotoxic, and bioimaging applications of DNA capped CdS. XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-visible absorption, and photoluminescence spectra were used to study structural, morphological, and optical properties of CdS nanoparticles. Prepared CdS nanoparticles exhibit visible fluorescence. The photocatalytic activity of CdS towards Rhodamine 6G and Methylene blue are 64% and 91% respectively. A disc-diffusion method is used to demonstrate antibacterial screening. It was shown that CdS nanoparticles inhibit Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria effectively. DNA capped CdS shows higher activity than uncapped CdS nanoparticles. MTT cell viability assays were carried out in HeLa cells to investigate the cytotoxicity for 24 h. At a concentration 2.5 µg/ml, it shows 84% cell viability and 43% viability at 12.5 µg/ml. The calculated LC50 value is equal to 8 µg/ml. These DNA capped CdS nanoparticles were taken for an in-vitro experiment with HeLa cells to exhibit the possibility of bioimaging applications. The present study suggests that the synthesized CdS nanoparticles could be a potential photocatalyst, antibacterial agent, and biocompatible nanoparticle for bioimaging applications.

Abstract
In the present work, biocompatible CdS nanoparticles were synthesized using Schiff base ligand, 3-((2-(-(1-(2hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene)amino)ethyl)imino)-2-pentone, by a simple ultrasonic irradiation method. The structural, morphological, and optical properties were studied using XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-visible absorption, and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The quantum confinement effect of the Schiff base capped CdS nanoparticles was confirmed by using UV-visible and PL spectrum analysis. This CdS nanoparticles were an effective photocatalyst for degrading rhodamine 6G and methylene blue with a 70% and 98% degradation capacity, respectively. Furthermore, the disc-diffusion method demonstrated that CdS nanoparticles inhibit G-positive bacteria and G-negative bacteria more effectively. These Schiff base capped CdS nanoparticles were taken for an in-vitro experiment with HeLa cells to exhibit the possibility of providing optical probes in biological applications and observed under a fluorescence microscope. In addition, MTT cell viability assays were carried out to investigate the cytotoxicity for 24 h. As a result of this study, 2.5 µg/ml doses of CdS nanoparticles are suitable for imaging and are effective in destroying HeLa cells. The present study suggests that the synthesized Schiff base capped CdS nanoparticles could be a potential photocatalyst, antibacterial agent, and biocompatible nanoparticle for bioimaging applications.

Abstract
The water pollution caused by heavy metals and dyes emitted by industries has become a worldwide problem. These pollutants are difficult to be biodegraded. Even at low concentrations, they are toxic and at last threaten human health. Herein, while using Tetrahymena thermophila, a single-celled ciliate protozoa, to enrich and remove the heavy metal Cd2+ from water, CdS nanoparticle-Tetrahymena thermophila hybrid system (CdS-T. thermophila) for dye pollution remediation under light irradiation was developed. The conditions of Cd2+ enrichment and removal by T. thermophila, construction of efficient CdS-T. thermophila, and decolorization of Congo red using CdS-T. thermophila were investigated. In the presence of cysteine ethyl ester, the removal rate of Cd2+ by T. thermophila was 94% at low Cd2+ concentration of 1 mg L-1. The adsorption capacity of T. thermophila to Cd2+ reached 43 mg g-1 at Cd2+ concentration of 80 mg L-1. Using 0.1 g L-1 constructed CdS-T. thermophila, the decolorization rate of 50 mg L-1 Congo red solution reached 95% in 60 min under light irradiation. This study provides a new insight to effective removing Cd2+ from water by T. thermophila to construct the CdS-T. thermophila and using it to remediate dye pollution in the environment.

Abstract
This work presents a new approach and a comprehensive mechanism to study the kinetics of the photodegradation of the organic pollutants. The vital role of various operational factors on the degradation of the organic pollutants is explained using this method. The proposed approach is based on the simple strategies and a powerful computational method. Two new variables "the effective concentration of photon" (Ieff) and "the effective concentration of the reactive centers" (RC) are defined to better understand the effect of operational parameters on the organic pollutant photodegradation. The optimum conditions of the photocatalytic degradation can be determined with the help of this method. This approach was used to study the kinetics of photodegradation of the organic pollutants on the [Formula: see text] photocatalysts. The provided mechanism has been examined with the some experimental data. The high correlations between the experimental data and the fitting results under different conditions prove this mechanism could be reliable.

Abstract
Nanodimensional metal sulfides are a developing class of low-cost materials with potential applications in areas as wide-ranging as energy storage, electrocatalysis, and imaging. An attractive synthetic strategy, which allows careful control over stoichiometry, is the single source precursor (SSP) approach in which well-defined molecular species containing preformed metal-sulfur bonds are heated to decomposition, either in the vapor or solution phase, resulting in facile loss of organics and formation of nanodimensional metal sulfides. By careful control of the precursor, the decomposition environment and addition of surfactants, this approach affords a range of nanocrystalline materials from a library of precursors. Dithiocarbamates (DTCs) are monoanionic chelating ligands that have been known for over a century and find applications in agriculture, medicine, and materials science. They are easily prepared from nontoxic secondary and primary amines and form stable complexes with all elements. Since pioneering work in the late 1980s, the use of DTC complexes as SSPs to a wide range of binary, ternary, and multinary sulfides has been extensively documented. This review maps these developments, from the formation of thin films, often comprised of embedded nanocrystals, to quantum dots coated with organic ligands or shelled by other metal sulfides that show high photoluminescence quantum yields, and a range of other nanomaterials in which both the phase and morphology of the nanocrystals can be engineered, allowing fine-tuning of technologically important physical properties, thus opening up a myriad of potential applications.

Abstract
Herein, we report cost effective and body compatible CuS nanoparticles (NPs) derived from a single source precursor as photothermal agent for healing deep cancer and photocatalytic remediation of organic carcinogens. These NPs efficiently kill MCF7 cells (both in vivo and in vitro) under NIR irradiation by raising the temperature of tumor cells. Such materials can be used for the treatment of deep cancer as they can produce a heating effect using high wavelength and deeply penetrating NIR radiation. Furthermore, CuS NPs under solar light irradiation efficiently convert p-nitrophenol (PNP), an environmental carcinogen, to p-aminophenol (PAP) of pharmaceutical implication. In a nutshell, CuS can be used for the treatment of deep cancer and for the remediation of carcinogenic pollutants. There seems an intrinsic connection between the two functions of CuS NPs that need to be explored in length.

Abstract
Industrialization and the growing consumption of medicines leads to global aquatic contamination. One of the antibiotics widely used against bacterial infections in both human and veterinary medicine is tetracycline. Despite its positive antibiotic action, tetracycline is resistant against degradation, and therefore it accumulates in the environment, including the aquatic environment, creating great health hazards, possibly stimulating antibiotic resistance of pathogenic organisms. In this research, aqueous suspensions of semiconductor nanoparticles CdS were used for photocatalytic activity studies in the presence of methylene blue as a model compound, and finally, in the presence of tetracycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic widely used against bacterial infections, as well as a live-stock food additive. The mechanism and kinetic rate constants of photocatalytic degradation processes of methylene blue and tetracycline were described in correlation with the energy diagram of CdS nanoparticles.

Abstract
Coupled CdS-CuO nanoparticles (NPs) subjected in the photocatalytic degradation of Methylene blue (MB) aqueous solution. The calcination temperature and the crystallite phase of CuO had a significant role on the photocatalytic activity of the coupled system and CuO200/2h-CdS catalyst (containing CuO calcined at 200°C for 2h) showed the best photocatalytic activity. The coupled system showed increased activity with respect to the monocomponent semiconductors. The prepared catalysts characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyzer, x-ray mapping, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The best degradation extent of MB was obtained at: CMB: 1mgL-1, pH5, 80min irradiation time and 0.8gL-1 of the CuO200/2h-CdS catalyst. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) confirmed about 83% of MB molecules can be mineralized at the optimum conditions.
