Abstract
The impact of light modulation on the decolorization of Acid Orange 7 (AO7) in aqueous solution was examined in this paper. A fixed bed batch photocatalytic reactor with a flat plate geometry, irradiated by 240 white-light LEDs, was used. A successful transfer of visible active photocatalyst (N-TiO2) in powder form on a polystyrene (PS) transparent plate was realized. The structured photocatalyst was characterized through SEM-EDX, Raman and UV-DRS analyses, evidencing the formation of a coating of N-TiO2 in the anatase phase, with a band-gap energy of 2.5 eV, and almost uniform distribution on the PS surface. Different LED dimming techniques, with fixed and variable duty-cycle values, were tested, and four types of light modulation were compared: fixed duty cycle (constant irradiation), sinusoidal variable duty cycle (sinusoidal variable irradiation), triangular variable duty cycle (triangular variable irradiation), and square wave variable duty cycle (square wave variable irradiation). The resulting responsiveness/efficiency of the LED versus the current intensity was evaluated, and the stability of the photocatalyst activity and the influence of optimized irradiation waveforms were examined in the decolorization of 400 mL of 10 ppm AO7 solution. The sinusoidal modulation, with current between 50 and 100 mA and 10 s as the period, shows the highest value of the apparent pseudo-first-order kinetic constant, resulting equal to 0.0044 min-1, at parity of total transmitted photons. An energy saving with the application of sinusoidal irradiation is highlighted with respect to the literature.

Abstract
Acetaminophen (ACT) and phenacetin (PNT) removal during light-emitting diode (LED)-UV photolysis of persulfate (PS) was evaluated with a typical wavelength of 365 nm. Decay of PNT and ACT in pH ranges of 5.5-8.5 followed pseudo-first order kinetics. Maximum pseudo-first order rate constants (kobs) of ACT and PNT decomposition of 1.8 × 10-1 and 1.2 × 10-1 min-1, respectively, were obtained at pH 8.5. Hydroxyl radicals (·OH), sulfate radicals (SO4·-), superoxide radicals (O2-·), and singlet oxygen (1O2) were determined in-situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and alcohol scavenging tests. The average contributions of ·OH and SO4·- were 23.5% and 53.0% for PNT removal, and 15.9% and 53.0% for ACT removal at pH ranges of 5.5-8.5. In samples subjected to chlorination after LED-UV365/PS pre-oxidation, a relatively small total concentration of five halogenated disinfection by-products (DBPs) was obtained of 90.9 μg L-1 (pH 5.5) and 126.7 μg L-1 (pH 7.0), which is 58.5% and 30.2% lower than that in system without LED-UV365/PS pre-oxidation. Meanwhile, a higher maximum value of total DBP concentration was obtained at pH 8.5 (445.6 μg L-1) following LED-UV365/PS pre-oxidation. The results of economy evaluation showed that UV365 was more cost-effective in application for organic contaminant removal compared with UV254.

Abstract
Abstract
Here in, we report the synthesis and characterization of ZnO–TiO2 composite as a potential photo catalyst for photo degradation of methyl orange under UV irradiation. ZnO–TiO2 with 1:1 ratio was synthesized via wet incipient impregnation method using TiO2 and Zn(NO3)2 ⋅ 6H2O as precursor material and the prepared composite was characterized by XRD, EDX and SEM. The synthesized composite was employed as photo catalyst for photo degradation of methyl orange. The photo degradation results showed that ZnO–TiO2 exhibited better catalytic performance than ZnO and TiO2 alone. The methyl orange photo degradation efficiency was determined to be 98, 75 and 60% over ZnO–TiO2, ZnO and TiO2 respectively using 50 mL solution of 100 mg/L at 40 °C for 120 min. The ZnO–TiO2 catalyzed photo degradation of methyl orange followed pseudo-first-order kinetic in terms of Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanism.

Abstract
Over the last decade, ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV LEDs) have attracted considerable attention as alternative mercury-free UV sources for water treatment purposes. This review is a comprehensive analysis of data reported in recent years (mostly, post 2014) on the application of UV LED-induced advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to degrade organic pollutants, primarily dyes, phenols, pharmaceuticals, insecticides, estrogens and cyanotoxins, in aqueous media. Heterogeneous TiO2-based photocatalysis in lab grade water using UVA LEDs is the most frequently applied method for treating organic contaminants. The effects of controlled periodic illumination, different TiO2-based nanostructures and reactor types on degradation kinetics and mineralization are discussed. UVB and UVC LEDs have been used for photo-Fenton, photo-Fenton-like and UV/H2O2 treatment of pollutants, primarily, in model aqueous solutions. Notably, UV LED-activated persulfate/peroxymonosulfate processes were capable of providing degradation in DOC-containing waters. Wall-plug efficiency, energy-efficiency of UV LEDs and the energy requirements in terms of Electrical Energy per Order (EEO) are discussed and compared. Despite the overall high degradation efficiency of the UV LED-based AOPs, practical implementation is still limited and at lab scale. More research on real water matrices at more environmentally relevant concentrations, as well as an estimation of energy requirements providing fluence-based kinetic data are required.

Abstract
A novel cylindrical multi-column photocatalytic reactor (CMCPR) has been developed and successfully applied for the degradation of methyl orange (MO), amoxicillin (AMX) and 3-chlorophenol (3-CP) in water. Due to its higher adsorption capacity and simpler molecular structure, 3-CP compared with MO and AMX obtained the highest photodegradation (100%) and mineralization (78.1%) after 300-min photocatalytic reaction. Electrical energy consumption for photocatalytic degradation of MO, AMX and 3-CP using CMCPR was 5.79×10(4), 7.31×10(4) and 2.52×10(4) kW h m(-3) order(-1), respectively, which were less than one-thousand of those by reported photoreactors. The higher flow rate (15 mL min(-1)), lower initial concentration (5 mg L(-1)) and acidic condition (pH 3) were more favorable for the photocatalytic degradation of MO using CMCPR. Five repetitive operations of CMCPR achieved more than 97.0% photodegradation of MO in each cycle and gave a relative standard deviation of 0.72%. In comparison with reported slurry and thin-film photoreactors, CMCPR exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency, lower energy consumption and better repetitive operation performance for the degradation of MO, AMX and 3-CP in water. The results demonstrated the feasibility of utilizing CMCPR for the degradation of recalcitrant organic pollutants in water.
