Highly efficient asymmetric epoxidation of alkenes with a novel chiral complex of ruthenium(III) containing a sugar based ligand and triphenylphosphines

Mechanistic characterization and inhibition of sphingomyelinase C over substituted Iron Schiff bases of chitosan adsorbed on glassy carbon electrode

The medical treatment of laxoscelisms is based solely on supportive measures. Although equine antiserum for Sphingomyelinase C (SMASE) and D isomers are available, it is not used due to the risk of an anaphylactic reaction and its unproven efficacy. As potential enzyme inhibitors, derivatives of Iron chitosan complexes were studied (Shiff base having -R = -H, -Cl, -Br, -F, -OCH₃, -CH₃, -NO₂). These chitosan complexes were chosen because they have revealed good results in medicine and catalysis due to their biodegradable characteristics and bioavailability. Besides considering that these complexes have not been studied in relation to this toxin. The mechanisms underlying the catalytic and catcher effects of Iron chitosan complexes were studied using electrochemistry, UV-Vis spectroscopy and microscopic assay at physiological pH. The electrochemical studies showed that one of seven Schiff bases of chitosan adsorbed on glassy carbon electrode was electrocatalytically active for the oxidation of sphingomyelinase at 1.27 V, and that allowed proposing a reaction scheme for SMASE oxidation by adsorbed Iron complexes. On the other hand, even though the spectroscopic studies indicated that there was no chemical bond formation between the complex and SMASE in solution, the microscopic studies showed that this complex proved to be a remarkable cellular protector in presence of the enzyme. In conclusion, Shiff base of chitosan with R = -CH₃ was the only active complex in front of sphingomyelinase C, protecting red blood cells, according to our electrochemical and microscopic studies.

Iridium and rhodium “PNP” aminodiphosphine complexes used as catalysts in the oxidation of styrene

New Ir and Rh “PNP” aminodiphosphine complexes are effective catalysts in styrene oxidation withtert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant. The Ir catalysts were more active than the Rh catalysts with high yields to benzaldehyde in comparison to styrene oxide.

Ru(ii)-p-cymene complexes containing esters of chiral d/l-phenylalanine derived aroylthiourea ligands for enantioselective reduction of pro-chiral ketones

The chiral Ru(ii)-p-cymene complexes are efficient catalysts for the enantioselective reduction of ketones to chiral alcohols.

Binuclear ruthenium(III) bis(thiosemicarbazone) complexes: synthesis, spectral, electrochemical studies and catalytic oxidation of alcohol

A new series of binuclear ruthenium(III) thiosemicarbazone complexes of general formula [(EPh3)2(X)2Ru-L-Ru(X)2(EPh3)2] (where E=P or As; X=Cl or Br; L=NS chelating bis(thiosemicarbazone ligands) has been synthesized and characterized by analytical and spectral (FT-IR, UV-Vis and EPR). IR spectra show that the thiosemicarbazones behave as monoanionic bidentate ligands coordinating through the azomethine nitrogen and thiolate sulphur. The electronic spectra of the complexes indicate that the presence of d-d and intense LMCT transitions in the visible region. The complexes are paramagnetic (low spin d(5)) in nature and all the complexes show rhombic distortion around the ruthenium ion with three different 'g' values (gx≠gy≠gz) at 77K. All the complexes are redox active and exhibit an irreversible metal centered redox processes (Ru(III)-Ru(III)/Ru(IV)-Ru(IV); Ru(III)-Ru(III)/Ru(II)-Ru(II)) within the potential range of 0.38-0.86V and -0.39 to -0.66 V respectively, versus Ag/AgCl. Further, the catalytic efficiency of one of the complexes [Ru2Cl2(AsPh3)4(L1)] (4) has been investigated in the case of oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols into their corresponding aldehydes and ketones in the presence of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide(NMO) as co-oxidant. The formation of high valent Ru(V)O species is proposed as catalytic intermediate for the catalytic cycle.
