Abstract
This work addressed one step preparation method to form a novel nano material composite of graphene oxide nanosheet (GO) functionalized with low-cost tri-sodium citrate (C), using, teteraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a cross-linker. The prepared composite (GO–C) was characterized using various advanced techniques. Among these techniques, the TGA provided interesting information concerning the functionalization process. Within this process, the (–OH) groups that located at the GO-surface were consumed in the modification process which leads to increase the thermal stability of the resulted composite. Cationic organic methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV), and inorganic copper (Cu2+) and cobalt (Co2+) pollutants were displayed as a model to assess their removal performance by the developed composite (GO–C) from aqueous solution, through batch technique. According to Langmuir isotherm the GO–C present an excellent adsorption capacity for MB (222.22 mg g−1), CV (270.27 mg g−1), Cu2+ (163.4 mg g−1) and Co2+ (145.35 mg g−1) which were more than the adsorption capacities found in literature. Additionally, the regenerated composite presents higher removal ability than the original composite.

Abstract
Carbon nanoscrolls (CNS), a one dimensional (1D) helical form of carbon, have received enormous attention recently due to their unique structure, superior properties and potential applications. In this work, radial merging of HiPCO single walled nanotube (SWNT) bundles and emergence of CNS are reported following a reflux action involving wet oxidation, HCl washing and annealing at 900 °C. We observe macroscopic quantities of graphene sheets (GS) in the post-treated sample and beautiful manifestation of curling and folding of the GS into CNS. Here, a simple solution based oxidative route for successful merging and exfoliation of SWNT bundles and subsequent formation of CNS are demonstrated and discussed in view of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. Direct evidence of emergence of CNS from SWNTs via synthesis of GS through a simple oxidative method is reported for the first time.

Abstract
As the world human population and industrialization keep growing, the water availability issue has forced scientists, engineers, and legislators of water supply industries to better manage water resources. Pollutant removals from wastewaters are crucial to ensure qualities of available water resources (including natural water bodies or reclaimed waters). Diverse techniques have been developed to deal with water quality concerns. Carbon based nanomaterials, especially carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with their high specific surface area and associated adsorption sites, have drawn a special focus in environmental applications, especially water and wastewater treatment. This critical review summarizes recent developments and adsorption behaviors of CNTs used to remove organics or heavy metal ions from contaminated waters via adsorption and inactivation of biological species associated with CNTs. Foci include CNTs synthesis, purification, and surface modifications or functionalization, followed by their characterization methods and the effect of water chemistry on adsorption capacities and removal mechanisms. Functionalized CNTs have been proven to be promising nanomaterials for the decontamination of waters due to their high adsorption capacity. However, most of the functional CNT applications are limited to lab-scale experiments only. Feasibility of their large-scale/industrial applications with cost-effective ways of synthesis and assessments of their toxicity with better simulating adsorption mechanisms still need to be studied.

Abstract
An easy and reliable method based on a novel electroanalytical nanostructured sensor has been developed to perform quantification of vitamin C in commercial and fortified cow-milk-based formulae and foods for infants and young children. The work is motivated by the need of a reliable analytical tool to be applied in quality control laboratories for the quantitative assessment of vitamin C where its rapid and cost-effective monitoring is essential. The ad hoc designed sensor, based on disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes modified with Au nanoparticles decorated reduced graphene oxide flakes, exhibits a LOD of 0.088 mg L-1. The low cost, easy sample preparation, fast response and high reproducibility (RSD ≈ 8%) of the proposed method highlight its suitability for usage in quality control laboratories for determining vitamin C in real complex food matrices, envisaging the application of the sensing platform in the determination of other compounds relevant in food chemistry and food manufacturing.

Abstract
In our work, one-step electro-deposition method was adopted to produce polyaniline (PANI) and functional multiwalled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) films on glass carbon electrodes, and the modified electrodes were applied as an electrochemical sensor for determination of 10-hydroxycamptothecine (10-HCPT). The f-MWCNTs were handled by ultrasound processing in concentrated oxidizing acid solution, which can obtain a wonderful dissolution in water and attach new functional groups, such as -COOH and -OH. Then, aniline monomer could polymerize on the surface easily. The surface characterization was investigated using various techniques including scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, and electro-catalytic properties were characterized by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Under optimal conditions, the resulting of PANI/f-MWCNTs sensor showed a wide linear range (3 × 10-9 to 7 × 10-7 mol L-1 ) and a low detection limit (1 × 10-9 mol L-1 ), which is attributing to its large special surface area and good conductivity. Moreover, the modified electrodes are convenient to fabricate, which can be used to detect 10-HCPT in urine samples successfully.
