Catalytic performance of tridentate versus bidentate Co(ii) complexes supported by Schiff base ligands in vinyl addition polymerization of norbornene. RSC Adv 2022; 12:35896-35904. Abstract
A series of Co(ii) complexes supported by Schiff base ligands, LA-LC, where LA, LB, and LC are (E)-3-methoxy-N-(quinolin-2-ylmethylene)propan-1-amine, (E)-N 1,N 1-dimethyl-N 2-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)ethane-1,2-diamine, and (E)-N 1,N 1-dimethyl-N 2-(thiophen-2-ylmethylene)ethane-1,2-diamine, respectively, were designed and synthesized. Structural studies revealed a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry for [LBCoCl2] and a distorted tetrahedral geometry for [LCCoCl2]. After activation with modified methyl aluminoxane (MMAO), all the Co(ii) complexes catalyzed the polymerization of norbornene (NB) to yield vinyl-type polynorbornenes (PNBs) with activities of up to 4.69 × 104 gPNB mol Co-1 h-1 at 25 °C. High-molecular-weight (M n of up to 1.71 × 105 g mol-1) soluble PNBs with moderate molecular-weight distributions (MWD) were obtained. The activity of the Co(ii)/MMAO catalytic system is influenced by the steric hindrance and electronic properties of the ligands.

Abstract
A set of diarylamido-based unsymmetrical [PNNox] pincer ligands containing a chiral oxazoline ring have been synthesized and their nickel and palladium complexes [(2-PPh2(R1)ArN(R1)Ar-2-(R)oxazoline)MCl] (R1 = 4-H, R = (S)-4-iPr, M = Pd (Pd1); R1 = 4-H, R = (S)-4-Bn, M = Pd (Pd2); R1 = 4-H, R = (S)-4-Ph, M = Pd (Pd3); R1 = 4-Me, R = (S)-4-Bn, M = Pd (Pd4); R1 = 4-Me, R = (S)-4-Ph, M = Pd (Pd5); R1 = 4-H, R = 4-Me2, M = Pd (Pd6); R1 = 4-H, R = Benzo[d]-, M = Pd (Pd7); R1 = 4-H, R = (S)-4-Bn, M = Ni (Ni1); R1 = 4-H, R = (S)-4-Ph, M = Ni (Ni2); R1 = 4-Me, R = (S)-4-Bn, M = Ni (Ni3); R1 = 4-Me, R = (S)-4-Ph, M = Pd (Ni4)) were tested to show high catalytic activities for polymerization of norbornene. After activation of methylaluminoxane (MAO), all the nickel and palladium complexes could catalyze the polymerization of norbornene to yield vinyl-type polymers with activities up to 40.3 × 105 g of PNB (mol of Pd)-1 h-1. The copolymerization of norbornene with functional norbornene comonomers was also investigated by catalyst Pd2, accompanied by decreased catalytic activity and low incorporation of functional comonomers.

Abstract
The title compound, [CoCl2(C15H12N2)2]·0.5CH2Cl2, was crystallized from a binary mixture of dichloromethane and hexane and a dimeric supramolecular structure was isolated. The Co(II) centre exhibits a distorted tetrahedral geometry, with two independent pyrazole-based ligands occupying two coordination sites and two chloride ligands occupying the third and fourth coordination sites. The supramolecular structure is supported by complementary hydrogen bonding between the pyrazole NH group and the chloride ligand of an adjacent molecule. This hydrogen-bonding motif yields a ten-membered hydrogen-bonded ring. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations at the PBE/6-311G level of theory were used to probe the solid-state structure. These simulations suggest that the chelate undergoes a degree of conformational distortion from the lowest-energy geometry to allow for optimal hydrogen bonding in the solid state.

Abstract
In (η⁶-p-cymene)(difluorophosphinato-κO){2-[(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl-κN²]pyridine-κN}ruthenium(II) 0.85-hexafluorophosphate 0.15-tetrafluoroborate, [Ru(PO₂F₂)(C₁₀H₁₄)(C₉H₉N₃)](PF₆)0.85(BF₄)0.15, (I), the [PO₂F₂]⁻ ligand exhibits positional disorder due to one F atom and one O atom sharing the same two positions related by a mirror reflection across the O-P-F plane. The correct composition of this coordinated anion was successfully determined to be [PO₂F₂]⁻ by refining the complex with various tetrahedral anions in which terminal atoms have similar atomic form factors. The noncoordinated counter-ion is compositionally disordered between [PF₆]⁻ and [BF₄]⁻. The difficulty in determining the correct composition of this anion illustrates the importance of a crystallographer remaining impartial and open to encountering unexpected moieties in the process of elucidating a structure.

Abstract
The title compound, [PdCl(2)(C(21)H(17)N(3))], is a member of a sequence of Pd, Pt and Co dichloride complexes bearing polysubstituted (pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine ligands. It is shown that there is a correlation between the steric bulkiness of the bidentate (pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine ligands and the Pd-N(pyrazole) distances, i.e. the larger the ligand, the longer the bond. In contrast, no trend is observed between the steric properties of the ligand and the Pd-N(pyridine) bond lengths.
