Abstract
The CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel with semi-interpenetrating structure and temperature-sensitivity was prepared by in-situ polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) in sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) solution at room temperature. The mass ratio of CMC to NIPAM was a key factor influencing the network structure and property of CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel. The low critical phase transition temperature (LCST) of CMC-PNIPAM hydrogels increased from 34.4 °C to 35.8 °C with the mass ratio of CMC to NIPAM rising from 0 to 1.2. The maximum compressive stress of CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel reached to 26.7 kPa and the relaxation elasticity was 52 % at strain of 60 %. The viscoelasticity of CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel was consistent with the generalized Maxwell model. The maximum swelling ratio in deionized water was 170.25 g·g-1 (dried hydrogel) with swelling rate of 2.57 g·g-1·min-1 at 25 °C. CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel hardly absorbed water above LCST, but the swollen hydrogel could release water at the rate of 0.36 g·g-1·min-1 once exceeding LCST. The test of water retention showed that soil mixed with 2 wt% dried CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel could retain 13.08 wt% water after 30 days at 25 °C that was 4.4 times than that of controlled soil without CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel. The semi-interpenetrating CMC-PNIPAM hydrogel showed a potential to conserve water responding to temperature.

Abstract
In this work, a sodium alginate-based copolymer grafted by thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) chains was used as gelator (Alg-g-PNIPAM) in combination with methylcellulose (MC). It was found that the mechanical properties of the resulting gel could be enhanced by the addition of MC and calcium ions (Ca2+). The proposed network is formed via a dual crosslinking mechanism including ionic interactions among Ca2+ and carboxyl groups and secondary hydrophobic associations of PNIPAM chains. MC was found to further reinforce the dynamic moduli of the resulting gels (i.e., a storage modulus of ca. 1500 Pa at physiological body and post-printing temperature), rendering them suitable for 3D printing in biomedical applications. The polymer networks were stable and retained their printed fidelity with minimum erosion as low as 6% for up to seven days. Furthermore, adhered pre-osteoblastic cells on Alg-g-PNIPAM/MC printed scaffolds presented 80% viability compared to tissue culture polystyrene control, and more importantly, they promoted the osteogenic potential, as indicated by the increased alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium, and collagen production relative to the Alg-g-PNIPAM control scaffolds. Specifically, ALP activity and collagen secreted by cells were significantly enhanced in Alg-g-PNIPAM/MC scaffolds compared to the Alg-g-PNIPAM counterparts, demonstrating their potential in bone tissue engineering.

Abstract
A targeted drug delivery system was developed to accumulate specific drugs around tumor cells based on the redox, temperature, and enzyme synergistic responses of mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN-NH2) and Doxorubicin (DOX) for tumor therapy were prepared and loaded into the pores of MSN- NH2 to obtain DOX@MSN(DM NPs). Hyaluronic acid (HA) was used as the backbone and disulfide bond was used as the linker arm to graft carboxylated poly (N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAAm-COOH) to synthesize the macromolecular copolymer (HA-SS-PNIPAAm), which was modified to DM NPs with capped ends to obtain the nano-delivery system DOX@MSN@HA-SS-PNIPAAm(DMHSP NPs), and a control formulation was prepared in a similar way. DMHSP NPs specifically entered tumor cells via CD44 receptor-mediated endocytosis; the high GSH concentration (10 mM) of cells severed the disulfide bonds, the hyaluronidase sheared the capped HA to open the pores, and increased tumor microenvironment temperature due to immune response can trigger the release of encapsulated drugs in thermosensitive materials. In vitroandin vivoantitumor and hemolysis assays showed that DMHSP NPs can accurately target hepatocellular carcinoma cells with a good safety profile and have synergistic effects, which meant DMHSP NPs had great potential for tumor therapy.

Abstract
High-performance hydrogels with favorable mechanical strength, high modulus, sufficient ionic conductivity and freezing resistance have far-ranging applications in flexible electronic equipment. Nevertheless, it is challenging to combine admirable mechanical properties and high ionic conductivity into one hydrogel. Herein, a facile strategy was developed for the preparation of the hydrogel with excellent strength (1.45 MPa), super Young's modulus (8.85 MPa) and high conductivity (1.47 S/m) using starch and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as raw materials. The starch/PVA/Gly/Na3Cit (SPGN) gel was firstly cross-linked by crystalline regions of PVA upon freezing-thawing cycles. It was further immersed in the saturated Na3Cit solution to enhance the interaction between the substrates through the salting-out effect. The effect of soaking time on the crystallinity, intermolecular interactions, mechanical and electrical properties of SPGN gel was demonstrated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, tensile and impedance testing measurements. The introduction of glycerol and Na3Cit also endowed SPGN gels with favorable anti-freezing properties. The SPGN gel could maintain high mechanical flexibility and ionic conductivity at -15 °C.
