NMR and theoretical study on interactions between diperoxovanadate complex and pyrazole-like ligands

Cation-Anion and Anion-CO2 Interactions in Triethyl(octyl)phosphonium Ionic Liquids with Aprotic Heterocyclic Anions (AHAs)

Ionic liquids with aprotic heterocyclic anions (AHAs) have been developed for postcombustion CO₂ capture applications. The anions of AHA ILs play a significant role in tuning anion-CO₂ complexation. In addition, AHAs are able to trigger the abstraction of acidic protons located at the α position of phosphonium cations by forming hydrogen bonds between cations and anions, eventually leading to cation-driven CO₂ complexation. Here we investigate the role of the anion in cation-anion hydrogen bonding and ylide formation. Using CO₂ uptake measurements, ³¹P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) deuterium exchange equilibrium and rates, two-dimensional nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (2D NOESY), and density functional theory calculations, we show that the key is the proximity of the negatively charged nitrogen atoms on the anion to the α protons, which is governed not just by anion basicity but by sterics. Thus, we show that triethyl(octyl)phosphonium 3-methyl-5-trifluoromethylpyrazolide is much more effective in hydrogen-bonding with and deprotonating the cation than the equivalent [P₂₂₂₈] ILs with more basic 2-cyanopyrrolide and 3-trifluoromethylpyrazolide anions.

DNA interaction, in vivo and in vitro cytotoxicity, reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation of -N, S donor Re(I) metal complexes

N, S donor ligands (L¹-L⁵){L¹-L⁵ = 1,5-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (L¹), 1-(4-bromophenyl)-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (L²), 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-1-(p-tolyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (L³), 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (L⁴), 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-(thiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (L⁵)} were synthesized by Claisen-Schmidt condensation and characterized by spectrometric methods. The complexes (I-V) were synthesized by ligand combination followed by metal chelation. The binding of the rhenium complexes to Herrin sperm DNA was monitored by UV spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. The groove binding was suggested as the most possible mode, and the K_b values of the complexes were calculated. The mode of interaction was furthermore confirmed by molecular docking. Brine shrimp lethality and Saccharomyces cerevisiae cytotoxicity against the eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells showed the toxic nature of the synthesized compounds. All compounds were found active against S. cerevisiae, which was confirmed by increased ROS production, and DNA damage as compared to untreated yeast cell culture. The oxidative harm to cell structures was affirmed by lipid peroxidation. An antimicrobial study was carried out by estimating minimum inhibitory concentration against two Gram-positive and three Gram-negative bacteria. All complexes show good antiproliferative activity against the HCT 116 cell line. All synthesized complexes are biologically more active than the corresponding ligands.

A spectroscopic study on the coordination and solution structures of the interaction systems between biperoxidovanadate complexes and the pyrazolylpyridine-like ligands

In order to understand the substitution effects of pyrazolylpyridine (pzpy) on the coordination reaction equilibria, the interactions between a series of pzpy-like ligands and biperoxidovanadate ([OV(O2)2(D2O)](-)/[OV(O2)2(HOD)](-), abbrv. bpV) have been explored using a combination of multinuclear ((1)H, (13)C, and (51)V) magnetic resonance, heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC), and variable temperature NMR in a 0.15 mol L(-1) NaCl D2O solution that mimics the physiological conditions. Both the direct NMR data and the equilibrium constants are reported for the first time. A series of new hepta-coordinated peroxidovanadate species [OV(O2)2L](-) (L = pzpy-like chelating ligands) are formed due to several competitive coordination interactions. According to the equilibrium constants for products between bpV and the pzpy-like ligands, the relative affinity of the ligands is found to be pzpy > 2-Ester-pzpy ≈ 2-Me-pzpy ≈ 2-Amide-pzpy > 2-Et-pzpy. In the interaction system between bpV and pzpy, a pair of isomers (Isomers A and B) are observed in aqueous solution, which are attributed to different types of coordination modes between the metal center and the ligands, while the crystal structure of NH4[OV(O2)2(pzpy)]·6H2O (CCDC 898554) has the same coordination structure as Isomer A (the main product for pzpy). For the N-substituted ligands, however, Isomer A or B type complexes can also be observed in solution but the molar ratios of the isomer are reversed (i.e., Isomer B type is the main product). These results demonstrate that when the N atom in the pyrazole ring has a substitution group, hydrogen bonding (from the H atom in the pyrazole ring), the steric effect (from alkyl) and the solvation effect (from the ester or amide group) can jointly affect the coordination reaction equilibrium.

Spectroscopic investigation of the interaction between diperoxovanadate complexes and benzimidazole-like ligands

To understand the effects of benzimidazole substitution on reaction equilibrium, the interactions between a series of benzimidazole-like ligands and [OV(O₂)₂(D₂O)]⁻/[OV(O₂)₂(HOD)]⁻ in solution were explored by a combination of multinuclear ((1)H, (13)C, and (51)V) magnetic resonance and variable temperature NMR in 0.15 mol/L NaCl ionic medium for mimicking the physiological condition. Some direct NMR data are reported for the first time. These results show that the relative reactivity among the organic ligands is 2-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole>(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methanol>1-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)ethanol>1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole. Both the steric effect and the electron effect of the 2-position substituted groups in benzimidazole ring affect the reaction equilibrium. The competitive coordination results in the formation of a series of new six-coordinated peroxovanadate species [OV(O₂)₂L]⁻(L=benzimidazole-like ligands). Moreover, the results of density functional calculations provided a reasonable explanation on the relative reactivity of the benzimidazole-like ligands as well as the important role of solvation in these reactions.
