Abstract
This review highlights the most recent applications of Cd(II)-carboxylate-based coordination polymers (Cd(II)-CBCPs), such as sensors, catalysts, and storage materials, in comparison with those of Zn(II) counterparts. A wide range of species with luminescence properties were designed by using proper organic fluorophores, especially a carboxylate bridging ligand combined with an ancillary N-donor species, both with a rigid structure. These characteristics, combined with the arrangement in Cd(II)-CBCPs' structure and the intermolecular interaction, enable the sensing behavior of a plethora of various inorganic and organic pollutants. In addition, the Lewis acid behavior of Cd(II) was investigated either in developing valuable heterogeneous catalysts in acetalization, cyanosilylation, Henry or Strecker reactions, Knoevenagel condensation, or dyes or drug elimination from wastewater through photocatalysis. Furthermore, the pores structure of such derivatives induced the ability of some species to store gases or toxic dyes. Applications such as in herbicides, antibacterials, and electronic devices are also described together with their ability to generate nano-CdO species.

Abstract
The development of multifunctional fluorescent chemosensors for the detection of multiple targets remains challenging but of great importance. In this paper, one novel coordination polymer (CP), denoted as [Cd2(edda)(phen)2]∙H2O (compound 1, H4edda = 5,5' (ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy)) diisophthalic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) is successfully designed and prepared under hydrothermal conditions. Structural analysis indicates that compound 1 possesses a one-dimensional (1D) double chain structure, then self-assembles into a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework via π…π interactions between phen molecules. Interestingly, compound 1 is found to be tolerant in wide range of acidic to alkaline aqueous solutions (pH = 2-13). Fluorescent spectral investigations reveal that compound 1 exhibits highly selective and sensitive fluorescence responses toward MnO4-, Cr(VI) ions, acetylacetone (acac) and ascorbic acid (AA) by fluorescence quenching in the aqueous phase. The detection limits are in the very low range, reaching μM level for the detection of MnO4-, Cr(VI) ions, nM for AA and ppm for acac detection. The distinguished multi-responsive performance suggests compound 1 to be a potential multifunctional probe. Furthermore, the possible quenching mechanisms have also been systematically investigated in this work.

Luminescent Cd coordination polymer based on thiazole as a dual-responsive chemosensor for 4-nitroaniline and CrO 42- in water. Sci Rep 2023; 13:269. Abstract
A novel highly fluorescent cadmium metal-organic framework, [Cd (DPTTZ) (OBA)] (IUST-3), synthesized by using two linkers 2, 5-di (pyridine-4-yl) thiazolo [5, 4-d] thiazole (DPTTZ) and 4, 4'-oxybis (benzoic acid) (OBA) simultaneously, which exhibits a two-dimensional framework. The characteristics of this Cd-MOF were investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry analysis. The IUST-3 exhibits excellent luminescence property and good stability in water. Luminescent experiments indicate that the IUST-3 has remarkable sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of 4-nitroaniline (4-NA), and CrO42- anion with KSV = 1.03 × 105 M-1 (4-NA) and KSV = 2.93 × 104 M-1 (CrO42-) and low limit of detection 0.52 µM (4-NA) and 1.37 µM (CrO42-). In addition, the possible fluorescence quenching mechanism was explored in this paper.
