Abstract
Various push-pull chromophores can be synthesized in a single and atom-economical step through [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization (CA-RE) reactions involving diverse electron-rich alkynes and electron-deficient alkenes. In this review, a comprehensive investigation of the recent and noteworthy advancements in the research on push-pull chromophores prepared via the [2 + 2] CA-RE reaction is conducted. In particular, an overview of the physicochemical properties of the family of these compounds that have been investigated is provided to clarify their potential for future applications.

Abstract
Native coelenterazine (nCTZ) is a common substrate to most marine luciferases and photoproteins. In this study, nine novel dye- and azide-conjugated CTZ analogues were synthesized by conjugating a series of fluorescent dyes or an azide group to the C-2 or C-6 position of the nCTZ backbone to obtain bulkiness-driven substrate specificity and potential chemiluminescence/bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (C/BRET). The investigation on the optical properties revealed that azide-conjugated CTZs emit greatly biased bioluminescence to ALucs and ca. 130 nm blue-shifted bioluminescence with RLuc8.6 in living animal cells or lysates. The corresponding kinetic study explains that azide-conjugated CTZ exerts higher catalytic efficiency than nCTZ. Nile red-conjugated CTZ completely showed red-shifted CRET spectra and characteristic BRET spectra with artificial luciferase 16 (ALuc16). No or less spectral overlap occurs among [Furimazine-NanoLuc], [6-N3-CTZ-ALuc26], [6-pi-OH-CTZ-RLuc8.6], and [6-N3-CTZ-RLuc8.6] pairs, because of the substrate-driven luciferase specificity and color shifts, providing a crosstalk-free multiplex bioassay platform. The unique bioluminescence system appends a new toolbox to bioassays and multiplex molecular imaging platforms. This study is the first example that systematically synthesized fluorescent dye-conjugated CTZs and applied them for a bioluminescence assay system.

Abstract
A series of unsymmetrical (D-A-D1 , D1 -π-D-A-D1 , and D1 -A1 -D-A2 -D1 ; A=acceptor, D=donor) and symmetrical (D1 -A-D-A-D1 ) phenothiazines (4 b, 4 c, 4 c', 5 b, 5 c, 5 d, 5 d', 5 e, 5 e', 5 f, and 5 f') were designed and synthesized by a [2+2] cycloaddition-electrocyclic ring-opening reaction of ferrocenyl-substituted phenothiazines with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ). The photophysical, electrochemical, and computational studies show a strong charge-transfer (CT) interaction in the phenothiazine derivatives that can be tuned by varying the number of TCNE/TCNQ acceptors. Phenothiazines 4 b, 4 c, 4 c', 5 b, 5 c, 5 d, 5 d', 5 e, 5 e', 5 f and 5 f' show redshifted absorption in the λ=400 to 900 nm region, as a result of a low HOMO-LUMO gap, which is supported by TD-DFT calculations. The electrochemical study exhibits reduction waves at low potential due to strong 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) and cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-ylidene-expanded TCBD acceptors. The incorporation of cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-ylidene-expanded TCBD stabilized the LUMO energy level to a greater extent than TCBD.

Abstract
This review focuses on the postfunctionalization of porphyrins and related compounds through catalytic and stoichiometric organometallic methodologies. The employment of organometallic reactions has become common in porphyrin synthesis. Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are now standard techniques for constructing carbon-carbon bonds in porphyrin synthesis. In addition, iridium- or palladium-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization of porphyrins is emerging as an efficient way to install various substituents onto porphyrins. Furthermore, the copper-mediated Huisgen cycloaddition reaction has become a frequent strategy to incorporate porphyrin units into functional molecules. The use of these organometallic techniques, along with the traditional porphyrin synthesis, now allows chemists to construct a wide range of highly elaborated and complex porphyrin architectures.
