Abstract
A straightforward and efficient methodology has been developed for the synthesis of 3-cyano-2-pyridones via the C-C and C-N bond formation processes. A total of 51 diverse 3-cyano-2-pyridone derivatives were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. This reaction featured advantages such as a metal-free process, wide functional group tolerance, simple operation, and mild conditions. A plausible mechanism for the reaction was proposed. 3-cyano-2-pyridones as ricinine analogues for insecticidal properties were evaluated, and the compound 3ci (LC50 = 2.206 mg/mL) showed the best insecticidal property.

Abstract
Synthesis of new compounds that have biological activity is an indispensible issue in order to deal with the drug resistant bacteria. This wok reports preparation of a novel composite based on substituted pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,4] oxadiazine-dialdehyde chitosan (PODACs) conjugate. Firstly, a novel approach of synthesizing of a new substituted pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,4]oxadiazine-7-carboxylic acid (PO) is reported through reacting(Z)-N'-(1-(3-aminophenyl)ethylidene)-2-cyanoacetohydrazide with (Z)-ethyl 2-cyano-3-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylate. Then Dialdehyde chitosan (DACs) has prepared via periodat oxidation of chitosan (Cs). The synthesized compounds have studied via various spectroscopic instruments to validate their chemical structure such as nuclear magnetic resonance 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The substituted pyrido [2,1-b][1,3,4]oxadiazine and the composite were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and unicellular fungi. The results revealed that, the composite exhibited promising antimicrobial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, B. subtilis and C. albicans where inhibition zones were 19, 18, 36 and 20 mm respectively. Furthermore, the substituted pyrido [2,1-b][1,3,4]oxadiazine and the composite were evaluated for cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line as well as vero normal cell line. Results illustrated the prepared composite has anticancer activity against MCF7 where IC50 was 238 µg/ml.

Abstract
A highly efficient and atom-economic iron(III)-catalyzed three-component heteroannulation reaction between phenylpropiolamides, 3-formylchromones, and water is described for the construction of diversely multifunctionalized 2-pyridones. This protocol allows rapid access to a variety of 2-pyridones bearing an ortho-hydroxybenzoyl and a benzoyl scaffold under operationally simple conditions. The synthetic utility of the synthesized 2-pyridone scaffolds is demonstrated by transformation into biologically interesting complex heterocycles.

Abstract
The advent of multicomponent reactions in the synthesis of heterocycles and their ever burgeoning applications in drug development, materials chemistry, and catalysis, have attracted a great deal of current scientific interest. In particular, the metal-free multicomponent synthesis of six membered N-heterocycles has undergone intensive research over the last two decades offering an environmentally benevolent means contrary to traditional metal catalysed reactions. To the best of our knowledge, there exists no exclusive review on the metal-free multicomponent synthesis of six membered N-heterocyles, and hence the present report highlights the progress on metal-free multicomponent reactions with their advantages and mechanistic insights to access monocyclic six-membered N-heterocycles including pyridine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, triazine and their hydrogenated derivatives. The literature is covered since 2000, and the contents offer not only striking methods for divergent synthesis of six-membered N-heterocycles but also put forward some new insights into the exploration of metal-free multicomponent chemistry.

Abstract
An efficient asymmetric allylation reaction of allylboronates with seven-membered cyclic imines, dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepines, is described. The reaction, which is catalyzed by a Bi(OAc)3/CPA system, gives a range of chiral nitrogen-containing heterocycle structures in high yields and with good enantioselectivities. The conversion of these products to nitrogen-containing heterocycles is also demonstrated.

Abstract
AbstractThis paper discloses an efficient one-pot protocol to convert easily accessible 3-nitropyridines to 3-acetamidopyridin-2-yl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate derivatives which are core structures of many pharmaceutical molecules. The strategy successfully combined a three-step reaction in one pot via progressively adding different reactants at rt. The reaction displays good functional group tolerance and regioselectivity. Structurally diversified 3-nitropyridine could be time-efficiently (3.5 h) derivatized to various functional 2-O,3-N-pyridines which are apt for further elaborations. The transformation was amenable to gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
3-Fluorooxindoles and the dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepane scaffolds are important pharmacophores that have important application in medicinal chemistry. An organocatalyzed asymmetric Mannich reaction of 3-fluorooxindoles with dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepines affording various seven-member cyclic amines containing chiral tetrasubstituted C-F stereocenters was developed. These reactions which were catalyzed by a bifunctional Cinchona alkaloid-derived thiourea catalyst afforded a wide range of substrates in moderate to high yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 88% yield, >20:1 dr and >99% ee). A feasible reaction mechanism was also proposed.

Abstract
Quorum sensing inhibitors (QSIs) present a promising alternative or potent adjuvants of conventional antibiotics for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, since they could disrupt bacterial pathogenicity without imposing selective pressure involved in antibacterial treatments. This review covers a series of molecules showing quorum sensing (QS) inhibitory activity that are isolated from marine microorganisms, including bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi, and chemically synthesized based on QSIs derived from marine microorganisms. This is the first comprehensive overview of QSIs derived from marine microorganisms and their synthetic analogues with QS inhibitory activity.

Abstract
Ureases are enzymes that hydrolyze urea into ammonium and carbon dioxide. They have received considerable attention due to their impacts on living organism health, since the urease activity in microorganisms, particularly in bacteria, are potential causes and/or factors contributing to the persistence of some pathogen infections. This review compiles examples of the most potent antiurease organic substances. Emphasis was given to systematic screening studies on the inhibitory activity of rationally designed series of compounds with the corresponding SAR considerations. Ureases of Canavalia ensiformis, the usual model in antiureolytic studies, are emphasized. Although the active site of this class of hydrolases is conserved among bacteria and vegetal ureases, the same is not observerd for allosteric site. Therefore, inhibitors acting by participating in interactions with the allosteric site are more susceptible to a potential lack of association among their inhibitory profile for different ureases. The information about the inhibitory activity of different classes of compounds can be usefull to guide the development of new urease inhibitors that may be used in future in small molecular therapy against pathogenic bacteria.

Abstract
A simple and convenient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of N-amino-3-cyano-2-pyridone derivatives by a one-pot reaction of cyanoacetohydrazide, activated nitrile substrates (malononitrile, ethyl cyanoacetate, cyanoacetamide) and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of piperidine in water or a mixture of water and ethanol. The sequence of cascade reactions includes Knoevenagel condensation, Michael addition, intramolecular cyclization, imine-enamine tautomerization and oxidative aromatization. The main advantages of this procedure are availability of starting compounds, simple procedure, mild conditions, easy purification of products and the use of water or water/ethanol as green solvents.

The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the new nucleosides 4–7 range from 1.3 to 4.9 μg/mL and MICs of fluoroaryl derivatives 8a,b are in the range of 1.8–5.5 μg/mL. Activity of amoxicillin, the reference drug, is 1.0–2.0 μg/mL under similar conditions.

Abstract
A facile, convenient and high yielding synthesis of novel S-glycosides and N-glycosides incorporating 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene and or 1,2-dihydropyridines moieties has been described. The aglycons 2, 4, and 7 were coupled with different activated halosugars in the presence of basic and acidic medium. The preliminary in-vitro cytotoxic evaluation revealed that compounds 3c, 3f, 5c and 7b show promising activity. A molecular docking study was performed against tyrosine kinase (TK) (PDB code: 1t46) by Autodock Vina. The docking output was analyzed and some compounds have shown hydrogen bond (H-B) formation with reasonable distances ranged from 2.06 A° to 3.06 A° with Thr 670 and Cys 673 residues found in the specified pocket. No hydrogen bond was observed with either Glu 640 nor Asp 810 residues, as was expected from pdbsum.

Abstract
The title compounds were prepared by reaction of 6-acetyltetralin (1) with different aromatic aldehydes 2a-c, namely 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde, 2,6-diflouro-benzaldehyde, and 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, to yield the corresponding a,b-unsaturated ketones 3a-c. Compound 3b was reacted with hydrazine hydrate to yield the corresponding 2-pyrazoline 4, while compounds 3a,b reacted with thiourea to afford the 2-thioxopyrimidine derivatives 5a,b, respectively. The reaction of 1, and the aromatic aldehydes 2a-c with ethyl cyanoacetate, 2-cyano-thioacetamide or malononitrile in the presence of ammonium acetate yielded the corresponding 2-oxopyridines 6a,b, 2-thioxopyridines 7a-c or 2-iminopyridines 8a,b, respectively. The newly prepared compounds were evaluated for anticancer activity against two human tumor cell lines. Compound 3a showed the highest potency with IC(50) = 3.5 and 4.5 μg/mL against a cervix carcinoma cell line (Hela) and breast carcinoma cell line (MCF7), respectively.

Abstract
Commercial dehydroacetic acid was converted into 4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one (3), which was then condensed with several aliphatic aldehydes to produce seven new title compounds in variable yields (35-92%). Reaction of 3 with alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes resulted in the formation of condensed pyran derivatives 4g' and 4h'. A mechanism is proposed to explain the formation of such compounds. The effects of all methylpyridin-2(1H)-one derivatives on the development of the dicotyledonous species Ipomoea grandifolia and Cucumis sativus and the monocotyledonous species Sorghum bicolor were evaluated. At the dose of 6.7 x 10(-8) mol a.i./g substrate the compounds showed some phytotoxic selectivity, being more active against the dicotyledonous species. These compounds can be used as lead structures for the development of more active phytotoxic products.
