Abstract
The production of environmentally friendly nanostructured materials with well-defined properties is a major challenge. Characteristics of the nanomaterials such as dimensionality, size and morphology strongly affect their performance in various applications. Additionally, sustainability considerations require an acceptable level of efficiency while being economically feasible and environmentally benign. The use of ultrasonic irradiation (UI) is a green and powerful technology, which can be applied for the synthesis of a variety of nanostructured materials. This review critically discusses the progress made in the fabrication of environmentally benign engineered nanomaterials with various dimensionalities (i.e., zero, one, two, or three dimensions) assisted by UI. The evolution and current status in this area are further illustrated using a scientometric approach. Application of UI for the synthesis of nanostructured materials has been also assessed according to the main sustainability pillars including the performance and environmental compatibility, as well as the relevant economic and social considerations. The outlook as well as recommendations for future research has been also provided and discussed towards the promotion of sustainable nanomaterials synthesis and application in various fields.

Abstract
Four nanostructural nickel(II) coordination polymers {[Ni(ttpa)(1,4-ndc)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (1), {[Ni(ttpa)(1,3-bda)]·2H2O·DMF}n (2·2H2O·DMF), {[Ni(ttpa)(1,4-bdc)]·H2O}n (3) and {[Ni(ttpa)(aip)(H2O)]·3H2O}n (4·3H2O) were synthesized using hydrothermal and sonochemical methods (ttpa = tris(4-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)phenyl)amine, 1,4-ndc = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylate, 1,3-bda = 1,3-benzenediacetate, 1,4-bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate, aip = 5-aminoisophthalate), and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, scanning electron microscopy, single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, optical band gaps, VB XPS spectra and luminescence. The effects of sonication power, time and frequency on the size and morphology of nano-sized 1-4 have been studied. 1 exhibits an unusual 2D + 2D → 3D inclined polycatenated motif based on the (3,3)-coordinated 63-hcb topology. 2 shows a (3,4)-coordinated 2D network of the bey topology. 3 presents a rare example of the 4-fold interpenetrating array of (3,5)-coordinated 3D network belonging to the 35T1 topology type. 4 displays an unusual 2D → 3D polythreaded network based on 2D sql networks. 1-4 exhibit luminescent emissions at 409, 399, 413 and 402 nm, respectively. 1-4 are semiconducting in nature, with Eg of 2.12 eV (1), 2.34 eV (2), 2.32 eV (3), and 2.47 eV (4). 1-4 are good catalysts for the degradation of MB under visible light irradiation. The effects of the size and morphology of nano-sized 1-4 on the photocatalytic efficiencies were studied. The higher sonication frequency obtains uniform and smaller nano-sized coordination polymers which have higher catalytic efficiencies.

Abstract
Two new lead(II) coordination polymer complexes (CSCs) (2D), [Pb2(L)2(Br)2]n·H2O (1), [Pb2(HL/)(L/)(H2O)2]n·H2O (2), where L = C6H5NO2 (2-pyridinecarboxylic acid) and L/ = C9H6O6 (1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid), have been synthesized under different experimental conditions. Micrometric crystals (bulk) or microsized materials have been obtained depending on using the branch tube method or sonochemical irradiation. All materials have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and FT-IR spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray analyses on complexes 1 and 2 shows that Pb2+ ions are 8-coordinated, 7 and 9-coordinated, respectively. Topological analysis shows that the compound 1 and 2 are 4,6L26 and bnn net, respectively. However, neither the shape nor the morphology is maintained, showing the role of sonochemistry to modulate both morphology and dimensions of the resulting crystalline material, independently of whether we have a 2D coordination polymer (CP). Finally, micro structuration of lead(II) bromide oxide and lead(II) oxide have been prepared by calcination of two different lead (II) CPs at 700 °C that were characterized by SEM and XRD.

Abstract
Reverse micelle (RM) and ultrasound assisted reverse micelle (UARM) were applied to the synthesis of novel thorium nanostructures as metal organic frameworks (MOFs). Characterization with different techniques showed that the Th-MOF sample synthesized by UARM method had higher thermal stability (354°C), smaller mean particle size (27nm), and larger surface area (2.02×103m2/g). Besides, in this novel approach, the nucleation of crystals was found to carry out in a shorter time. The synthesis parameters of UARM method were designed by 2k-1 factorial and the process control was systematically studied using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and response surface methodology (RSM). ANOVA showed that various factors, including surfactant content, ultrasound duration, temperature, ultrasound power, and interaction between these factors, considerably affected different properties of the Th-MOF samples. According to the 2k-1 factorial design, the determination coefficient (R2) of the model is 0.999, with no significant lack of fit. The Fvalue of 5432, implied that the model was highly significant and adequate to represent the relationship between the responses and the independent variables, also the large R-adjusted value indicates a good relationship between the experimental data and the fitted model. RSM predicted that it would be possible to produce Th-MOF samples with the thermal stability of 407°C, mean particle size of 13nm, and surface area of 2.20×103m2/g. The mechanism controlling the Th-MOF properties was considerably different from the conventional mechanisms. Moreover, the MOF sample synthesized using UARM exhibited higher capacity for nitrogen adsorption as a result of larger pore sizes. It is believed that the UARM method and systematic studies developed in the present work can be considered as a new strategy for their application in other nanoscale MOF samples.
