Abstract
BACKGROUND Listening is an important responsibilities of human resource managers, whether it will bring role stress to human resource managers, or lead to the risk of job burnout. This study aims to analyze the impact of listening competency on job burnout among human resource managers, and examine the mediating effect of role stress. METHODS This study adopted a cross-sectional method to randomly select 500 human resource managers from China's top ten human resource management cities to conduct an online questionnaire survey, and 232 valid samples were obtained. Descriptive statistical and one-way ANOVA were used to explore the status of job burnout among human resource managers in China. Correlation analysis, multiple linear regression and mediating effect analysis were employed to test the relationship between listening competency and job burnout, as well as the mediating effect of role stress. RESULTS (1) 34.5% of the respondents reported mild burnout, while 3.0% respondents showed serious burnout. Emotional exhaustion was the most serious. (2) Those are good at listening could easily avoid job burnout. Among them, listening skills were conducive to reducing the degree of depersonalization of human resource managers, and empathy was more conducive to improving their personal sense of accomplishment. (3) The role stress had a significant mediating role in the relationship between listening competency and job burnout. Which means that listening competency can avoid job burnout by reducing role stress of human resource managers. CONCLUSIONS This study revealed the current situation of job burnout among human resource managers in China, and explored the influence of listening competency on job burnout. This study enriched the research content of job burnout, and provided references for preventing and intervening job burnout of human resource managers.

Abstract
An experiment was designed to assess the effect of dietary unsaturated fat inclusion level on alpha-tocopherol apparent absorption and deposition in broiler chickens at 2 ages (20 and 39 d). The dietary fat was a mixture of linseed and fish oil, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The experimental treatments were the result of 4 levels of supplementation with alpha-tocopheryl acetate (0, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg; E0, E100, E200, and E400 treatments, respectively) and 4 dietary oil inclusion levels (2, 4, 6, and 8%; O2, O4, O6, and O8 treatments respectively). Almond husk was used as an energy dilutor in the high-fat diets. Apparent absorption of total fatty acids was high in all treatments averaging 88% and was higher with high fat dietary inclusion level. alpha-Tocopheryl acetate hydrolysis and apparent absorption of alpha-tocopherol were similar in both ages and were not affected by fat inclusion level, except for a reduction of the absorption in the low-fat diet (O2) in the E100 treatment at 20 d of age. Despite this lack of differences in hydrolysis and absorption, higher-fat PUFA diets induced lower concentrations of free alpha-tocopherol in the excreta, at high alpha-tocopherol doses, suggesting an increase in the destruction of alpha-tocopherol by lipid oxidation in the gastrointestinal tract. Similarly, total and hepatic alpha-tocopherol deposition was lower in the birds fed high-PUFA diets in the E200- and E400-supplemented birds, possibly due to a destruction of vitamin E when protecting these PUFA from lipid peroxidation. alpha-Tocopherol concentration in liver and, to a lesser extent, in plasma was a useful indicator of the degree of response of this vitamin to different factors that can affect its bioavailability; however, in the present experiment, CV were too high to use liver and plasma concentrations as estimators of total body vitamin E.

Abstract
The present paper describes the development and validation of a normal-phase liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (NP-HPLC-MS) method for the screening and quantification of vitamin E constituents in human plasma and food matrixes. Liquid-liquid extraction combined with isotope dilution was applied to extract the lipophilic target analytes. Baseline separation of alpha-tocopherylacetate, alpha-tocopherol, alpha-tocotrienol, alpha-tocopherylquinone, beta-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol, beta-tocotrienol, gamma-tocotrienol, delta-tocopherol, and delta-tocotrienol was achieved utilizing a normal-phase amine column operated with n-hexane and 1,4-dioxane as solvents. Detection was achieved by positive-ion atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI). Key features of the method are lower limits of detection, 3-51 nmoles/L; lower limits of quantification, 8-168 nmoles/L; linearity coefficients, 0.9778-0.9989; linear ranges, 0.01-29 micromol/L; recoveries, 53-92%; accuracies, 99-103%; intraday precisions, 2-17%; interday precisions, 5-18%; and suppression values, 0-29%. Fragmentation of tocopherols was studied by tandem mass spectrometry, and a fragmentation scheme for tocotrienols/tocopherols is postulated. Neutral-loss and precursor-ion scan experiments were performed for targeted discovery of oxidation products of tocopherols in human blood and fish oil, the latter being an important food component. The presented data suggest that this method will help to expand the number of quantified/discovered vitamin E constituents detected in food products and analyzed during human/animal trials in order to give a more comprehensive picture to nutritionists about the fate of vitamin E.

Abstract
A rapid direct method (Method I) for measuring gamma- and alpha-tocopherols in human milk was developed and validated using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet/visible (UV-vis) detection. Human milk, with an internal standard (alpha-tocopherol acetate) added, was diluted in hexane. The chromatographic system consisted of a short column (50 mm x 2.1mm I.D., 3 microm particle size) that allowed the separation of the gamma- and alpha-tocopherols in less than 6 min. The new direct method (Method I) was compared with other methods. Method II (saponification with ultraviolet/visible detection) determined 24% and 22% less gamma- and alpha-tocopherols, respectively. Method III (saponification with evaporative light scattering detection) gave the same values for alpha-tocopherol content as Method II. However, the amount of sample used in the application of Method III was higher than that used in Method II. Furthermore, Method I uses smaller amounts of solvents, and it is simpler and faster than Methods II or III. Only a small volume of sample is needed, which is an additional advantage for biological assays.

Abstract
This report improves analytical procedures to investigate the behaviour of the two Vitamin E forms, alpha-tocopherol (Tol) and alpha-tocopheryl acetate (Tac), in model systems mimicking the intestinal medium. We describe how to prepare mixed micelles as vehicle for Tac and Tol and the HPLC method for their quantification in the micelles. Tac and Tol were extracted using ethanol-hexane-drying procedure, whereas the separation and detection were performed in methanol and by UV method, respectively. Both compounds were eluted in less than 4 min. In the range between 1.7 microM and 54 microM of Tac or Tol in the micelles, their recovery were 89% and 81%, respectively, with correlation coefficient over 0.99 and R.S.D. of less than 7.2% in all cases. Limits of detection and quantification for Tac and Tol in mixed micelles ranged between 1 microM and 2 microM and between 3 microM and 5 microM, respectively. The behaviours of Tac and Tol were quite different during the extraction procedure and both were influenced by the vitamin concentration and the relative volume of organic solvents.

Abstract
Since natural antioxidants present increasing interest for food industry due to their beneficial effect on health, new potential sources have been screened among edible aromatic plants and a microalgae, Spirulina platensis. The determination was performed after optimising a previously validated method, because important differences have been found among values described in literature for tocopherol content in products of vegetable origin. Values obtained ranged from 3.42 mg alpha-tocopherol/100 g of dill to 132.2 mg/100 g of fresh bay and from 0.14 mg gamma-tocopherol/100 g of spearmint to 3.45 mg/100 g of parsley. In all cases results were calculated from fresh leaves. Preliminary experiments were developed with bay (Laurus nobilis) plant to devise the supercritical fluid extraction of tocopherols, generating environmentally friendly processes to selectively extract fractions enriched with antioxidant compounds while removing fractions corresponding to essential oils, that is, those that correspond to the characteristic aroma of the plants. Another striking result has been the tocopherol content in the microalgae, 1.3 mg alpha-tocopherol/100 g of dried commercial spirulina, which do not justify the supposed source of antioxidant vitamins. Results suggest the need of more reliable determinations of tocopherols in vegetable sources to be included in databases.

Abstract
Vitamin E requirements are linked to dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content as a result of the protective effect of vitamin E from lipid peroxidation. On the other hand, it has been suggested that dietary PUFA interfere with vitamin E absorption. A 4 x 4 factorial study was planned to assess the effect of dietary vitamin E inclusion level (0, 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) and degree of unsaturation (15, 34, 45 and 61 g PUFA/kg) on vitamin E apparent absorption and tissue deposition in poultry. A total of 192 female broiler chickens were used. A digestibility balance was carried out between 19 and 23 days of age to calculate apparent absorption of fat and vitamin E. The livers of 96 animals were obtained at 44 days of age for vitamin E determination. Increasing dietary levels of vitamin E reduced its apparent absorption. The more saturated diet reduced fat and vitamin E apparent absorption while PUFA levels from 34 to 61 g/kg did not modify this parameter but reduced the hepatic vitamin E concentration, suggesting a greater systemic use of this vitamin. These results suggest that PUFA do not limit vitamin E absorption, although they may increase its degradation in the gastrointestinal tract.

Abstract
A rapid, sensitive method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of retinol acetate, delta-, gamma-, alpha-tocopherol and alpha-tocopherol acetate. We compare two experimental procedures for simultaneous direct solvent extraction of these vitamins without previous saponification. Method I: the fat milk sample was extracted with ethanol-hexane and injected directly into the chromatographic column. Method II: the power milk sample was extracted with ethanol-hexane and also injected directly into the column. Under optimum conditions the limits of detection for retinol acetate, delta-, gamma-, alpha-tocopherol and alpha-tocopherol acetate were 0.33, 21.2, 32.9, 32.5 and 3.2 ng and the limits of quantification were 0.42, 25.3, 37.9, 36.8 and 6.3 ng, respectively. The precision results showed that the relative standard deviations of repeatability and reproducibility were between 0.74 and 5.7%.

Abstract
Extraction and chromatographic conditions for measuring tocopherols from Laurus nobilis were optimized. Newly harvested leaves were dried in a microwave oven and crushed; then, alpha- and gamma-tocopherol and tocol, added as internal standard, were directly extracted from portions of ground material with acetone, by probe sonication. After centrifugation and filtration, the acetonic extract was directly analyzed by HPLC using a gradient elution with a Discovery C18 column (25 x 0.46 cm) at 35 degrees C. UV and fluorescence detections were employed simultaneously. Validation parameters of the method for linearity, accuracy, and precision can be considered to be adequate for both detection modes. After validation, a number of samples selected from different geographical areas in the Iberian peninsula were measured, and results compared with those in the literature gave surprisingly high values.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to the development of pathophysiological processes, hence the increasing interest in modulating the antioxidant status of patient by nutritional or pharmacological intervention. Antioxidants act by preventing the formation of ROS (inhibitory effect) and/or by trapping these species (scavenger effect). We have developed a simple, sensitive, and reliable test to measure the total antioxidative efficiency of plasma or other biological fluids using microliter samples. METHODS Autoxidation of homovanillic acid (HVA) gives rise to fluorescent dimers. Antioxidants contained in the plasma (or free aqueous solutions) scavenge the ROS involved in this process and transiently stop the linear increase in fluorescence intensity during a time (delay) proportional to the total concentration of antioxidants and their scavenging efficiency. In addition to this scavenging effect, the kinetics of HVA autoxidation, restarting after the delay, reflects the ability of the plasma antioxidants to inhibit the ROS-triggered autoxidation. RESULTS The rate of the HVA autoxidation depended on the temperature, the protonation of the phenolic group, and on the presence of peroxide, peroxyl radicals, and peroxidase as well as metal ions. This Fenton-like reaction was transiently stopped by various ROS scavengers including quercetin, ascorbic acid, and thiol derivatives (glutathione and N-acetylcystein) while metal chelating agents such as desferrioxamine, ethylene diamine tetracetic acid (EDTA), and polyamine only reduced its rate. DISCUSSION The main advantages of this new assay are its versatility to investigate in a single run both the scavenging and inhibitory components of the antioxidant capacity, and its relevance to the reactive hydroxyl radical. As shown in this study, the increase in the antioxidant capacity of human plasma during pharmacological supplementation with antioxidant illustrates one of the various fields of application of this assay.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols (Vitamin E) are part of a group of "minor components" of main interest, present in the unsaponifiable fraction of many samples. Their importance in biological, metabolical and nutritional studies makes determination of tocopherols and related compounds of major interest. Present work critically reviews the different ways to perform sample pre-treatment and analysis of these compounds, related to the matrices, other analytes to be measured, sensitivity, and simplicity. The review includes well referenced tables that provide in-depth summaries of methodology for the chromatographic analysis of alpha-tocopherol and related compounds in foods, pharmaceuticals, plants, animal tissues and other matrices.

Abstract
A simple HPLC method for vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) measurement in the leaves of Rosmarinus officinalis has been developed and validated. It has enabled new data for alpha-tocopherol content to be established. The leaves, recently harvested, were dried in a microwave oven and crushed; then, alpha-tocopherol was directly extracted from portions of ground material with acetone, by probe sonication. After centrifugation the acetonic extract was analysed by HPLC with ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) added as internal standard and a gradient elution with a Nucleosil C18 column at 35 degrees C. Validation parameters of the method can be considered adequate. For standards: linearity is r=0.999, recovery is 100+/-2%, intra-assay precision has RSD=+/-3% and inter-assay precision has RSD=+/-6%. For samples: linearity is r=0.99, recovery: 93+/-7%, intra-assay precision has RSD=+/-4% and inter-assay precision has RSD=+/-7%.

Abstract
This study was designed to compare in rats the effects of dietary fish oil and olive oil during pregnancy and lactation on offspring development, fatty acid profile and vitamin E concentration. From d 0 of pregnancy, female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups that were fed purified diets that differed only in their nonvitamin lipid components. One diet contained 10 g fish oil/100 g diet (FOD), whereas the other contained 10 g olive oil/100 g diet (OOD). At d 20 of gestation, maternal adipose tissue fatty acid profile did not differ between rats fed the two diets, whereas both maternal and fetal plasma and liver arachidonic acid (AA) contents were proportionally lower and eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acid contents were higher in the FOD group than in the OOD group. alpha-Tocopherol concentration was lower in maternal and fetal plasma, liver and brain in the FOD group than in the OOD group. The postnatal increase in body weight and length was less and body and psychomotor maturation indices were delayed in pups from FOD-fed dams compared with those from OOD-fed dams. This difference was maintained when pups were cross-fostered at birth, with the delay in postnatal development present in the pups suckling dams fed FOD during lactation. At age 21 d, pups suckling dams fed FOD had lower AA and higher EPA and DHA concentrations in brain phospholipids. Although alpha-tocopherol in plasma and liver was lower in pups suckling dams fed FOD rather than OOD, brain alpha-tocopherol concentrations did not differ. Milk yield and milk alpha-tocopherol and AA concentrations were lower and EPA and DHA were higher in the milk of dams fed FOD compared with those fed OOD. Postnatal development indices and the proportion of plasma, liver and brain AA concentrations, although not plasma, liver and brain alpha-tocopherol concentrations, recovered to the values found in dams fed OOD when the FOD was supplemented with gamma-linolenic acid. However, postnatal development indices were not recovered when the FOD was supplemented with sufficient exogenous vitamin E to increase plasma and liver alpha-tocopherol concentrations above those in dams fed OOD. Thus, although feeding FOD during pregnancy and lactation decreases both alpha-tocopherol and AA concentrations, the latter deficiency rather than the former seems to be responsible for delayed postnatal development of rat pups.
