Abstract
The synthesis of β-carba-xylo and arabino pyranosides of cholestanol is described. The synthetic strategy, which is analogous to the Postema approach to C-glycosides, centers on the ring closing metathesis of an enol ether-alkene precursor to give a cyclic enol ether that is elaborated to a carba-pyranoside via hydroboration-oxidation on the olefin. The method, which is attractive for its modularity and stereoselectivity, may find wider applications to carba-hexopyranosides and other complex cycloalkyl ether frameworks.

Abstract
A highly effective method for the introduction of a formyl group at the anomeric position of pyranosides was developed via enolisation of beta-C-D-glycopyranosylpropan-2-one using thermodynamic conditions then oxidative cleavage of the more substituted double bond. This sequence affords the desired aldehydes that are conveniently protected as aminals for purification and storage and easily regenerated using Dowex resin H+. In this paper, the syntheses of nine differently protected aldehydes derived from d-glucose, d-galactose, lactose and N-acetyl-d-glucosamine are presented. Our strategy proved to be very efficient in most cases excepted in the D-mannose series.

Abstract
Herein we report the synthesis of symmetrical C-linked and pseudo-symmetrical O-linked disaccharides structurally related to Araf motifs present in the cell wall of MTB. Their activity in a competition-based arabinosyltransferase assay using [14C]-DPA as the glycosyl donor is also presented. In addition, in vitro inhibitory activity for the disaccharides was determined in a colorimetric broth microdilution assay system against MTB H37Ra and Mycobacterium avium.

Abstract
Glycosylation reactions of 5-thioglucopyranosyl trichloroacetimidates bearing ethereal protective groups at the 2-O-position 14-15, and 37 proceed smoothly to give alpha-glycosides stereoselectively by using a catalytic amount of silyl triflate. This methodology allowed us to achieve syntheses of sulfur-substituted isomaltotetraoside 2 and maltotetraoside 3. These studies also revealed that benzoyl-protected 5-thioglucopyranosyl trichloroacetimidate 12 underwent beta-selective glycosylation with C6-OH glucopyranosyl acceptors upon activation by BF3OEt2. This was applied for preparation of sulfur-substituted gentiobiosides 1 and 46.
