Abstract
The C-H oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons to the corresponding alcohols and ketones can be performed efficiently at room temperature with molecular oxygen (1 atm) in the presence of acetaldehyde and catalysts such as Fe, Cu(OH)2 , and CuCl2 -18-crown-6 complex. Moreover, extremely high turnover numbers (>27,000) have been obtained for the C-H oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons with molecular oxygen (1 atm) using a combination of Cu(OAc)2 and acetonitrile at 70 °C. Related oxidation reactions such as epoxidation, Baeyer-Villiger reaction, acetoxylation of β-lactams with molecular oxygen and a suitable aldehyde at room temperature are described.

Abstract
A mechanistic study of the copper-catalyzed oxidation of the methylene group of aryl(di)azinylmethanes was performed. Initial reaction rates were measured making use of in situ IR reaction monitoring and a kinetic analysis of the reaction was executed. The reaction proved to be first order in oxygen concentration. For substrate and acid concentration, saturation kinetics due to O2 mass transfer limitation were observed. The occurrence of mass transfer limitation was further confirmed by examining the effect of the stirring rate on the initial reaction rate. Interestingly, the effect of the concentration of the catalyst on the rate shows that higher loadings result in a maximal initial rate, followed initially by a steady decrease and subsequently a rate plateau when the concentration is increased further. Mass transfer limitation and increased concentration of dinuclear catalytically active species rationalizes this hitherto unprecedented rate behavior. Continuous-wave and pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance methods were used to characterize the catalytic species present in the solution during the reaction and confirmed the presence of both mono- and dinuclear copper species. Analysis of a diverse substrate scope points towards imine-enamine tautomerization as a crucial process in the oxidation reaction. DFT calculations of these equilibrium constants (pKeq) provided us with a qualitative tool to predict whether or not a substrate is viable for oxidation under the reaction conditions developed.

Abstract
Aerobic epoxidation of olefins at a mild reaction temperature has been carried out by using nanomorphology of [Cu3(BTC)2] (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) as a high-performance catalyst through a simple synthetic strategy. An aromatic carboxylate ligand was employed to furnish a heterogeneous copper catalyst and also serves as the ligand for enhanced catalytic activities in the catalytic reaction. The utilization of a copper metal-organic framework catalyst was further extended to the aerobic oxidation of aromatic alcohols. The shape and size selectivity of the catalyst in olefin epoxidation and alcohol oxidation was investigated. Furthermore, the as-synthesized copper catalyst can be easily recovered and reused several times without leaching of active species or significant loss of activity.

Abstract
Sustainable Oxidations: an oxidation method to transform aryl(di)azinylmethanes into aryl(di)azinyl ketones is described. Base metals (copper and iron) as catalysts in combination with O(2) as the oxidant are used, which makes this method sustainable. The utility of this method is illustrated by the synthesis of 6-(4-methylbenzoyl)pyridine-2-carbaldehyde, which is an intermediate in the preparation of the drug Acrivastine.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method for the preparation of β-stereogenic α-keto esters is described using a copper(II)-catalyzed aerobic deacylation of substituted acetoacetate esters. The substrates for the title process arise from catalytic, enantioselective conjugate additions and alkylation reactions of acetoacetate esters. The mild conditions do not induce racemization of the incipient enolizable α-keto ester. The reaction is tolerant of esters, certain ketones, ketals, and nitro groups and utilizes inexpensive, readily available materials.

Abstract
This review focuses on the development of ruthenium and flavin catalysts for environmentally benign oxidation reactions based on mimicking the functions of cytochrome P-450 and flavoenzymes, and low valent transition-metal catalysts that replace conventional acids and bases. Several new concepts and new types of catalytic reactions based on these concepts are described. (Communicated by Ryoji Noyori, M.J.A.).
