Abstract
Intestinal inflammatory imbalance and immune dysfunction may lead to a spectrum of intestinal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and gastrointestinal tumors. As the king of herbs, ginseng has exerted a wide range of pharmacological effects in various diseases. Especially, it has been shown that ginseng and ginsenosides have strong immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory abilities in intestinal system. In this review, we summarized how ginseng and various extracts influence intestinal inflammation and immune function, including regulating the immune balance, modulating the expression of inflammatory mediators and cytokines, promoting intestinal mucosal wound healing, preventing colitis-associated colorectal cancer, recovering gut microbiota and metabolism imbalance, alleviating antibiotic-induced diarrhea, and relieving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. In addition, the specific experimental methods and key control mechanisms are also briefly described.

Abstract
Saponins, consisting of sapogenins as their aglycones and carbohydrate chains, are widely found in plants and some marine organisms. Due to the complexity of the structure of saponins, involving different types of sapogenins and sugar moieties, investigation of their absorption and metabolism is limited, which further hinders the explanation of their bioactivities. Large molecular weight and complex structures limit the direct absorption of saponins rendering their low bioavailability. As such, their major modes of action may be due to interaction with the gastrointestinal environment, such as enzymes and nutrients, and interaction with the gut microbiota. Many studies have reported the interaction between saponins and gut microbiota, that is, the effects of saponins on changing the composition of gut microbiota, and gut microbiota playing an indispensable role in the biotransformation of saponins into sapogenins. However, the metabolic routes of saponins by gut microbiota and their mutual interactions are still sparse. Thus, this review summarizes the chemistry, absorption, and metabolic pathways of saponins, as well as their interactions with gut microbiota and impacts on gut health, to better understand how saponins exert their health-promoting functions.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most malignant tumors of the digestive tract, with the poor prognosis and low 5-year survival rate less than 10%. Although surgical resection and chemotherapy as gemcitabine (first-line treatment) has been applied to the pancreatic cancer patients, the overall survival rates of pancreatic cancer are quite low due to drug resistance. Therefore, it is of urgent need to develop alternative strategies for its treatment. In this review, we summarized the major herbal drugs and metabolites, including curcumin, triptolide, Panax Notoginseng Saponins and their metabolites etc. These compounds with antioxidant, anti-angiogenic and anti-metastatic activities can inhibit the progression and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. Expecting to provide comprehensive information of potential natural products, our review provides valuable information and strategies for pancreatic cancer treatment.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is significantly correlated with inflammatory bowel disease, which usually manifests as chronic relapsing-remitting colitis. Phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biophosphatase 3 (PFKFB3) can catalyze to produce fructose-2,6-bisphosphate and function as an oncogene. In this study, we revealed the function of PFKFB3 in colitis-associated CRC (CAC) and the potential mechanism. RT-qPCR and Western blot were utilized to detect the level of PFKFB3 expression. Increased PFKFB3 expression was observed in the mouse CAC model and CAC patient samples. We identified that overexpression of PFKFB3 in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) could increase the proliferation, migration, and invasion of CRC cells by the coculture system. Mechanistically, overexpression of PFKFB3 induced phospho-p65 and promoted the expression of IL-1β and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in the development of colitis and CAC. In addition, PFK158, the PFKFB3 inhibitor, could reduce the CRC cell viability, migration, and invasion caused by PFKFB3 overexpression. In conclusion, overexpression of PFKFB3 promoted tumorigenesis in CAC by inducing phospho-p65 and expression of IL-1β and TNF-α. Our study suggested that PFKFB3 acted as a potential treatment target for CAC.
