Abstract
The [(p-cymene)RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+X- (CNHC = thiazol-2-ylidene) complexes with a bidentate ligand (2: X = Cl and 3: X = PF6) were prepared by a one-pot reaction of vitamin B1 (VB1, 1), Ag2O and [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2. In the complexes, VB1 coordinates through C2 and the exocyclic N in the imino form with the κ2-(C,N) coordination mode. The complexes 2 and 3 are stable in the solid state, but slowly release p-cymene in solution. Furthermore, upon heating in polar solvents, 2 or 3 can be converted by ligand exchange reactions to produce [(L)3RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+PF6- (4: L = py).Robustness was improved remarkably for 4. The complex 4 is stable in the solid state and in solution. The complexes 2-4 have been identified by 1H and 13C{1H} 2D NMR spectroscopy and 2 and 4 were studied by X-ray crystallography. In an effort to develop a recyclable catalyst in water, 2-4 were evaluated for TH of ketones and aldehydes with an azeotropic mixture of HCOOH/Et3N in water. The complexes 3 and 4 exhibited very good catalytic activity and 4 could be reused nine times without significant loss of activity, giving a high turnover frequency (TOF50%(h-1) = 1286).

Abstract
Since the discovery of persistent carbenes by the isolation of 1,3-di-l-adamantylimidazol-2-ylidene by Arduengo and coworkers, we witnessed a fast growth in the design and applications of this class of ligands and their metal complexes. Modular synthesis and ease of electronic and steric adjustability made this class of sigma donors highly popular among chemists. While the nature of the metal-carbon bond in transition metal complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) is predominantly considered to be neutral sigma or dative bonds, the strength of the bond is highly dependent on the energy match between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the NHC ligand and that of the metal ion. Because of their versatility, the coordination chemistry of NHC ligands with was explored with almost all transition metal ions. Other than the transition metals, NHCs are also capable of establishing a chemical bond with the main group elements. The advances in the catalytic applications of the NHC ligands linked with a second tether are discussed. For clarity, more frequently targeted catalytic reactions are considered first. Carbon-carbon coupling reactions, transfer hydrogenation of alkenes and carbonyl compounds, ketone hydrosilylation, and chiral catalysis are among highly popular reactions. Areas where the efficacy of the NHC based catalytic systems were explored to a lesser extent include CO2 reduction, C-H borylation, alkyl amination, and hydroamination reactions. Furthermore, the synthesis and applications of transition metal complexes are covered.

Abstract
An N-heterocyclic carbene ligand precursor bearing a π-extended phenanthridine (3,4-benzoquinoline) unit is presented. The proligand was isolated as the imidazolium salt of chloride (1•HCl), bromide (1•HBr), or hexafluorophosphate (1•HPF6) counterions. These salts can be deprotonated and the carbene installed on silver centres using Ag2O as both a base and a source of metal ion. The resulting Ag(I) complex (1)AgCl can be used in a transmetalation reaction to generate a Pd(II) coordination complex (1)Pd(CH3CN)Cl2. The characterization and photophysical properties of these complexes is presented, along with a demonstration of the utility of (1)Pd(CH3CN)Cl2 in mediating a catalytic C-N cross-coupling reaction for the preparation of the pharmaceutical Piribedil.

Abstract
A series of bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) iridium catalysts, [Ir(κC,N-NHC)H2L2]BPh4, are proposed for SABRE hyperpolarization. The steric and electronic properties of the NHCs are used to tune substrate affinity and thereby SABRE efficiency. The sterically hindered substrates 2,4-diaminopyrimidine and trimethoprim yielded maximum proton NMR signal enhancements of ∼300-fold and ∼150-fold, respectively.

Abstract
The study of different chiral inorganic nanomaterials has been experiencing rapid growth during the past decade, with its primary focus on metals and semiconductors. Ceramic materials can substantially expand the range of mechanical, optical, chemical, electrical, magnetic, and biological properties of chiral nanostructures, further stimulating theoretical, synthetic, and applied research in this area. An ever-expanding toolbox of nanoscale engineering and self-organization provides a chirality-based methodology for engineering of hierarchically organized ceramic materials. However, fundamental discoveries and technological translations of chiral nanoceramics have received substantially smaller attention than counterparts from metals and semiconductors. Findings in this research area are scattered over a variety of sources and subfields. Here, the diversity of chemistries, geometries, and properties found in chiral ceramic nanostructures are summarized. They represent a compelling materials platform for realization of chirality transfer through multiple scales that can result in new forms of ceramic materials. Multiscale chiral geometries and the structural versatility of nanoceramics are complemented by their high chiroptical activity, enantioselectivity, catalytic activity, and biocompatibility. Future development in this field is likely to encompass chiral synthesis, biomedical applications, and optical/electronic devices. The implementation of computationally designed chiral nanoceramics for biomimetic catalysts and quantum information devices may also be expected.

Abstract
The chiral synthons (S-)-1-phenyl-N-(pyridine-2-yl)ethylidine)ethanamine (L1), (R-)-1phenyl-N-(pyridine-2-yl)ethylidine))ethanamine (L2) (S)-1-phenyl-N-(pyridine-2-yl methylene) ethanamine (L3), and (R)-1-phenyl-N-(pyridine-2-yl methylene) ethanamine (L4) were synthesized in good yields. Treatments of L1-L4 with NiBr2(DME) and NiCl2 precursor afforded dinuclear complexes [Ni2(L1)4-μ-Br2]NiBr4 (Ni1), [Ni2(L2)4-μ-Br2]NiBr4 (Ni2), [Ni2(L3)4-μBr2]Br2 (Ni3), [Ni2(L4)4-μ-Br2]NiBr4 (Ni4) and [Ni(L4)2Cl2] (Ni5). The identities of the compounds were established using NMR, FT-IR and EPR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, magnetic moments, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The dinuclear dibromide nickel complexes dissociate into mononuclear species in the presence of strongly coordinating solvents. Compounds Ni1-Ni5 displayed moderate catalytic activities in the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of ketones, but with low enantiomeric excess (ee%). Both mercury and substoichiometric poisoning tests pointed to the homogeneous nature of the active species with the partial formation of catalytically active Ni(0) nanoparticles. Low resolution mass spectrometry analyses of the intermediates supported a dihydride mechanistic pathway for the transfer of hydrogenation reactions.
