Abstract
In the previous work [Reddy et al., J. Chem. Phys. 151, 044307 (2019)], we have analyzed the dynamics of the intramolecular singlet fission process in a series of prototypical pentacene-based dimers, where the pentacene monomers are covalently bonded to a phenylene linker in ortho, meta, and para positions. The results obtained were qualitatively consistent with the experimental data available, showing an ultrafast population of the multiexcitonic state that mainly takes place via a mediated (superexchange-like) mechanism involving charge transfer and doubly excited states. Our results also highlighted the instrumental role of molecular vibrations in the process as a sizable population of the multiexcitonic state could only be obtained through vibronic coupling. Here, we extend these studies and investigate the effect of the laser field on the dynamics of intramolecular singlet fission by explicitly including the coupling to the laser field in our model. In this manner, and by selectively tuning the laser field to the different low-lying absorption bands of the systems investigated, we analyze the wavelength dependence of the intramolecular singlet fission process. In addition, we have also analyzed how the nature of the initially photoexcited electronic state (either localized or delocalized) affects its dynamics. Altogether, our results provide new insights into the design of intramolecular singlet fission-active molecules.

Abstract
The long short-term memory recurrent neural network (LSTM-RNN) approach is applied to realize the trajectory-based nonadiabatic dynamics within the framework of the symmetrical quasi-classical dynamics method based on the Meyer-Miller mapping Hamiltonian (MM-SQC). After construction, the LSTM-RNN model allows us to propagate the entire trajectory evolutions of all involved degrees of freedoms (DOFs) from initial conditions. The proposed idea is proven to be reliable and accurate in the simulations of the dynamics of several site-exciton electron-phonon coupling models and three Tully's scattering models. It indicates that the LSTM-RNN model perfectly captures the dynamical information on the trajectory evolution in the MM-SQC dynamics. Our work proposes a novel machine learning approach in the simulation of trajectory-based nonadiabatic dynamic of complex systems with a large number of DOFs.

Abstract
The on-the-fly version of the symmetrical quasi-classical dynamics method based on the Meyer-Miller mapping Hamiltonian (SQC/MM) is implemented to study the nonadiabatic dynamics at conical intersections of polyatomic systems. The current on-the-fly implementation of the SQC/MM method is based on the adiabatic representation and the dressed momentum. To include the zero-point energy (ZPE) correction of the electronic mapping variables, we employ both the γ-adjusted and γ-fixed approaches. Nonadiabatic dynamics of the methaniminium cation (CH2NH2+) and azomethane are simulated using the on-the-fly SQC/MM method. For CH2NH2+, both ZPE correction approaches give reasonable and consistent results. However, for azomethane, the γ-adjusted version of the SQC/MM dynamics behaves much better than the γ-fixed version. Further analysis indicates that it is always recommended to use the γ-adjusted SQC/MM dynamics in the on-the-fly simulation of photoinduced dynamics of polyatomic systems, particularly when the excited state is well separated from the ground state in the Franck-Condon region. This work indicates that the on-the-fly SQC/MM method is a powerful simulation protocol to deal with the nonadiabatic dynamics of realistic polyatomic systems.

Abstract
The system-plus-bath model is an important tool to understand the nonadiabatic dynamics of large molecular systems. Understanding the collective motion of a large number of bath modes is essential for revealing their key roles in the overall dynamics. Here, we applied principal component analysis (PCA) to investigate the bath motion in the basis of a large dataset generated from the symmetrical quasi-classical dynamics method based on the Meyer-Miller mapping Hamiltonian nonadiabatic dynamics for the excited-state energy transfer in the Frenkel-exciton model. The PCA method clearly elucidated that two types of bath modes, which either display strong vibronic coupling or have frequencies close to that of the electronic transition, are important to the nonadiabatic dynamics. These observations were fully consistent with the physical insights. The conclusions were based on the PCA of the trajectory data and did not involve significant pre-defined physical knowledge. The results show that the PCA approach, which is one of the simplest unsupervised machine learning dimensionality reduction methods, is a powerful one for analyzing complicated nonadiabatic dynamics in the condensed phase with many degrees of freedom.

Abstract
We investigate the effect of applying an external static electric field on the singlet fission (SF) dynamics of pentacene dimer models using quantum chemical calculations and exciton dynamics simulations. It is found that the excitation energies of anion-cation (AC) and cation-anion (CA) pair exciton states in the SF process are significantly stabilized and destabilized, respectively, by applying an external static electric field (F) in the intermolecular direction. As a result, this change of excitation energies is found to accelerate the SF dynamics in pentacene dimer models. In particular, in the tilted- and parallel-type pentacene dimer models, SF rates at F = 0.001 a.u. are predicted to be about 2.3 and 3.0 times as large as those at F = 0.0 a.u. while keeping the TT yields large. The present result contributes to paving the way for novel physical and chemical controls, that is, an external static electric field application and donor/acceptor substitution on SF molecules, of SF dynamics.

Abstract
An understanding of the global structure of quantum coherence networks in coupled multistate systems is of great importance for the development of emerging quantum technologies such as quantum control and quantum materials design. Here, we study the topology of a quantum coherence network of a typical singlet exciton fission system by mapping the exciton states into crystal structures in real space. The defects in crystals could lead to changes in the topological structures, and also fission dynamics. In particular, we demonstrate that the dislocation induced three dimensional manifold, which differs from its lower dimensional counterparts globally, could generate exotic global structures, such as chiral spirals, and modulate singlet fission substantially. The findings may shed light on the new possibilities of engineering effective structures for fission materials.

Abstract
A symmetrical quasiclassical (SQC) dynamics approach based on the Li-Miller (LM) mapping Hamiltonian (SQC-LM) was employed to describe nonadiabatic dynamics. In principle, the different initial sampling procedures may be applied in the SQC-LM dynamics, and the results may be dependent on different initial sampling. We provided various initial sampling approaches and checked their influence. We selected two groups of models including site-exciton models for exciton dynamics and linear vibronic coupling models for conical intersections to test the performance of SQC-LM dynamics with the different initial sampling methods. The results were examined with respect to those of the accurate multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) quantum dynamics. For both the models, the SQC-LM method more-or-less gives a reasonable description of the population dynamics, while the influence of the initial sampling approaches on the final results is noticeable. It seems that the suitable initial sampling methods should be determined by the system under study. This indicates that the combination of the SQC-LM method with a suitable sampling approach may be a potential method in the description of nonadiabatic dynamics.

Abstract
Singlet fission is a photophysical reaction in which a singlet excited electronic state splits into two spin-triplet states. Singlet fission was discovered more than 50 years ago, but the interest in this process has gained a lot of momentum in the past decade due to its potential as a way to boost solar cell efficiencies. This review presents and discusses the most recent advances with respect to the theoretical and computational studies on the singlet fission phenomenon. The work revisits important aspects regarding electronic states involved in the process, the evaluation of fission rates and interstate couplings, the study of the excited state dynamics in singlet fission, and the advances in the design and characterization of singlet fission compounds and materials such as molecular dimers, polymers, or extended structures. Finally, the review tries to pinpoint some aspects that need further improvement and proposes future lines of research for theoretical and computational chemists and physicists in order to further push the understanding and applicability of singlet fission.

Abstract
In this Review article, a survey is given for theoretical studies in the subject of singlet fission. Singlet fission converts one singlet exciton to two triplet excitons. With the doubled number of excitons and the longer lifetime of the triplets, singlet fission provides an avenue to improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency in organic photovoltaic devices. It has been a subject of intense research in the past decade. Theoretical studies play an essential role in understanding singlet fission. This article presents a Review of theoretical studies in singlet fission since 2006, the year when the research interest in this subject was reignited. Both electronic structure and dynamics studies are covered. Electronic structure studies provide guidelines for designing singlet fission chromophores and insights into the couplings between single- and multi-excitonic states. The latter provides fundamental knowledge for engineering interchromophore conformations to enhance the fission efficiency. Dynamics studies reveal the importance of vibronic couplings in singlet fission.

Abstract
The quantum interference in singlet fission (SF) among the multiple pathways from singlet excited states to correlated triplet pair states is comprehensively investigated. The analytical analysis reveals that this interference is strongly affected by the exciton-exciton coupling and is closely related to the property of J- and H-type of aggregates. Different from the interference in the spectra of aggregates, which depends only on the sign of exciton-exciton coupling, the interference in SF is additionally related to the signs of couplings between singlet excited states and triplet pair states. The interference dynamics is further demonstrated numerically by a time-dependent wavepacket diffusion method with electron-phonon interactions incorporated. Finally, we take a pentacene dimer as a concrete example to show how to adjust the constructive and destructive interferences in SF dynamics in terms of J-/H-aggregate behaviors. The results presented here may provide guiding principles for designing efficient SF materials through directly tuning quantum interference via morphology engineering.

Abstract
We apply a real-time path-integral approach to investigate the charge-transfer (CT)-mediated singlet fission quantum dynamics in a model pentacene dimer. Our path-integral method gives reliable fission dynamics across various reaction regimes as well as a broad range of reorganization energies and temperatures. With this method, we investigated the destructive interference between the two CT-mediated fission pathways and discovered two mechanisms that can suppress this deleterious effect. First, increasing the energy gap between the two CT states effectively shuts down the high-lying CT pathway, leaving a better functioning low-lying CT pathway with a minimum amount of destructive interference. Second, intermolecular vibrations induce electronic coupling fluctuations, such that the destructive cancellations due to the different signs in static electronic couplings are suppressed. Our numerical results suggest that these two effects can enhance the fission rate up to three times. These findings reveal promising design principles for more efficient singlet fission materials.
