Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of the first homoleptic open-shell transition metal phosphinidenide is presented. By reacting [MnL2] (L = -N(SiMe3)2) with [(sIDipp)PK] (sIDipp = 1,3-bis(2,6-di-iso-propylphenyl)-imidazolidine-2-ylidene), the formation of [Mn{P(sIDipp)}2] instead of the initially expected adduct [KMn{P(sIDipp)}L2] is observed. Interestingly, a solvent change from toluene to n-pentane leads to the formation of [(sIDipp)PK2(Et2O)4][MnL3] after work-up, which can be seen as intermediate in the formation process of [Mn{P(sIDipp)}2]. Contrary to manganese, the highly reducing phosphinidenide [(sIDipp)P]- cannot be stabilized in an analogous fashion by coordination to a low-coordinate high-spin iron(II) center.

Abstract
A novel bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (DPPM) functionalized amidine ligand (DPPM-C(N-Dipp)2 H) (Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl) was synthesized. Subsequent deprotonation with suitable alkali metal bases resulted in the corresponding complexes [M{DPPM-C(N-Dipp)2 }(Ln )] (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs; L=thf, Et2 O). The alkali metal complexes form monomeric species in the solid state, exhibiting intramolecular metal-π-interactions. In addition, a caesium derivative [Cs{PPh2 CH2 -C(N-Dipp)2 }]6 was obtained by cleavage of a diphenylphosphino moiety, forming an unusual six-membered ring structure in the solid state. All complexes were fully characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. Furthermore, the photoluminescent properties of the complexes were thoroughly investigated, revealing differences in emission with regards to the respective alkali metal. Interestingly, the hexanuclear [Cs{PPh2 CH2 -C(N-Dipp)2 }]6 metallocycle exhibits a blue emission in the solid state, which is significantly red-shifted at low temperatures. The bifunctional design of the ligand, featuring orthogonal donor atoms (N vs. P) and a high steric demand, is highly promising for the construction of advanced metal and main group complexes.

Abstract
To synthesize complexes with thorium-phosphorus multiple-bond character, reactions of (C5Me5)2Th[P(H)Mes]2 with monovalent alkali-metal bases, MN(SiMe3)2, as well as CuMes, have been investigated. The results with MN(SiMe3)2 are phosphinidiide complexes of the form {(C5Me5)2Th[μ2-P(Mes)][μ2-P(H)Mes]M(L)n}2 (M = Na, n = 0; M = K, L = THF, n = 1; M = Rb, L = THF, n = 1; M = Cs, L = Et2O, n = 1). With CuMes, the product is a Th2Cu3P5 heterometallic structure, {(C5Me5)2Th[(μ2-P(H)Mes)P(Mes)]Cu}2Cu[μ2-P(H)Mes]. All complexes have been characterized using heteronuclear NMR and IR spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations, and their solid-state structure identified by X-ray crystallography. We also report the structure of {(C5Me5)2Th[(μ2-As(H)Mes)As(Mes)]Cu}2Cu[μ2-As(H)Mes] obtained from (C5Me5)2Th[As(H)Mes]2 with CuMes.

Abstract
In this paper, we highlight the synthesis of a variety of primary phosphine-boranes (RPH2 ⋅BH3 ) from the corresponding dichlorophosphines, simply by using Li[BH4 ] as reductant and provider of the BH3 protecting group. The method offers facile access not only to alkyl- and arylphosphine-boranes, but also to aminophosphine-boranes (R2 NPH2 ⋅BH3 ) that are convenient building blocks but without the protecting BH3 moiety thermally labile and notoriously difficult to handle. The borane-protected primary phosphines can be doubly deprotonated using n-butyllithium to provide soluble phosphanediides Li2 [RP⋅BH3 ] of which the phenyl-derivative Li2 [PhP⋅BH3 ] was structurally characterized in the solid state.

Abstract
The aerobic reaction of the multidentate ligand 2,6-bis-(3-oxo-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-propionyl)-pyridine, H4L, with Co(ii) salts in strong basic conditions produces the clusters [Co4(L)2(OH)(py)7]NO3 (1) and [Co8Na4(L)4(OH)2(CO3)2(py)10](BF4)2 (2). Analysis of their structure unveils unusual coordination features including a very rare bridging pyridine ligand or two trapped carbonate anions within one coordination cage, forced to stay at an extremely close distance (dO···O = 1.946 Å). This unprecedented non-bonding proximity represents a meeting point between long covalent interactions and "intermolecular" contacts. These original motifs have been analysed here through DFT calculations, which have yielded interaction energies and the reduced repulsion energy experimented by both CO32- anions when located in close proximity inside the coordination cage.

Abstract
Starting from tris(benzothiazol-2-yl)phosphane (1) an advanced Janus-head ligand, di(benzothiazol-2-yl)phosphane (2), was synthesised and structurally characterised. The heteroaryl substituents of this ligand provide both hard and soft donor sites. Surprisingly, the phosphorus atom in 2 is divalent and the hydrogen atom is directly bonded to one ring nitrogen atom and hydrogen bonded to the second. Compound 2 decomposes in any common solvent other than diethyl ether and a new preparation to improve the yields of 2 is presented. A coordination polymer, [{Cs(bth)(2)P}8] (3) (bth=benzothiazol-2-yl), was obtained when the sec-phosphane 2 was allowed to react with elemental caesium in a 1:1 ratio in diethyl ether at -78 degrees C. In 3 each anion is coordinated to four caesium cations and vice versa. The central phosphorus atom is coordinated to two metal atoms above and below the mean plane of the anion in positions in which the two lone pairs of a four-electron donor are anticipated. Two additional cations micro-bridge both ring nitrogen atoms. Hence both faces of the Janus-head ligand are coordinated to the same number of metal cations but in a different way.

Abstract
Three coordination polymers of copper(II), viz. ([Cu(ida)(4,4'-bipyH)]ClO(4))( proportional, variant ) (1), ([Cu(2)(ida)(2)(micro-4,4'-bipy)].2H(2)O)( proportional, variant ) (2), and [Cu(2)(ida)(2)(bpa)]( proportional, variant ) (3) have been synthesized by the process of self-assembly using Cu(ida) [ida = iminodiacetate(2-)] as the building block and 4,4'-bipyridyl and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpa) as linkers. Crystals of 1 are orthorhombic, of space group Pna2(1), with a = 13.8956(12) A, b = 16.3362(16) A, c = 7.3340(12), and Z = 4. Both compounds 2 and 3 crystallize in monoclinic space group P2(1)/a with a = 10.1887(8) A (9.6779(10) A for 3), b = 8.0008(11) A (9.1718(10) A), c = 11.6684(9) A (12.9144(12) A), beta = 98.307(11) degrees (102.796(18) degrees ), and Z = 2 (2). Compound 1 has a zigzag chain structure with an extensive hydrogen-bonded network while compounds 2 and 3 are honeycomb (6,3) nets with interpenetrating structures. Variable temperature (2-300 K) magnetic study indicates the presence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions (J = 0.82 +/- 0.01 cm(-)(1)) in 1 and ferromagnetic in 2 (J = -0.45 +/- 0.05 cm(-)(1)) and 3 (J = -0.21 +/- 0.02 cm(-)(1)). The extent of planarity of the bridging "Cu-O-C-O-Cu" moiety, acting as the super-exchange pathway between the neighboring copper centers, probably controls the sign of the magnetic exchange coupling in these compounds.

Abstract
The title salt [Re(2)(mu-OMe)(3)(CO)(6)](-)[DABCO-H](+) (1) was prepared as colorless prismatic crystals by the reaction of DABCO with Re(CO)(5)(OTf) in refluxing methanol solution and was characterized by spectroscopic means including single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The molecular structure of 1 revealed that a novel honeycomb supramolecular architecture of the anionic organometallic complex created a cavity with an effective diameter of 7.450(3) A that houses a linear H-bonded chain of [DABCO-H](+) in its center. This structure also represents the first example of the use of a linear chain of [DABCO-H](+) species as a countercation for a coordination compound.

Abstract
The secondary phosphine R(Me(2)NCH(2)-2-C(6)H(4))PH reacts with Bu(2)Mg to give the homoleptic complex Mg[PR(C(6)H(4)-2-CH(2)NMe(2))](2) (1) [R = CH(SiMe(3))(2)]. The analogous heavier alkaline earth metal complexes (THF)(n)Ae[PR(C(6)H(4)-2-CH(2)NMe(2))](2) [Ae = Ca (2), n = 0; Ae = Sr (3), Ba (4), n = 1] have been synthesized by metathesis reactions between K[PR(C(6)H(4)-2-CH(2)NMe(2))] and 0.5 equiv of the respective alkaline earth metal diiodide. Compounds 1-4 have been characterized by X-ray crystallography and multielement NMR spectroscopy. In the solid state, compounds 1-4 are monomeric, complexes 1 and 2 adopting a distorted tetrahedral geometry and complexes 3 and 4 adopting a distorted square pyramidal geometry (1: orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 11.413(3) A, b = 12.072(3) A, c = 32.620(11) A, Z = 4. 2: monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 9.5550(4) A, b = 17.4560(7) A, c = 24.5782(10) A, beta = 91.673(2) degrees, Z = 4. 3: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 15.0498(9) A, b = 13.0180(8) A, c = 24.3664(14) A, beta = 104.593(2) degrees, Z = 4. 4: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 15.2930(10) A, b = 13.0326(9) A, c = 24.6491(17) A, beta = 105.542(2) degrees, Z = 4). In toluene solution, compounds 2-4 are subject to dynamic processes which are attributed to a monomer-dimer equilibrium for which bridge-terminal exchange of the phosphanide ligands in the dimer may be frozen out at low temperatures.
